Parasol Inn....Great!”

Price, location and cleanliness.
No coffee making facilities or lift (4 floors).

We booked the Parasol Inn via Agoda for only two nights, at a good rate, but ended up staying longer and returning to stay again. The hotel staff are extremely helpful, polite and friendly, always willing to assist with any problem or enquiry. They were kind enough to store our unneeded luggage while we were away travelling for a few days. The rooms are very spacious, attractively decorated and very clean. Only some minor touches are needed as far as paint repairs etc. Our bed was a huge king size and very comfortable. Located at the intersection of the Sunday night markets and being in central Chiang Mai, makes the hotel ideal for shopping and commuting to other places in the city. Included breakfasts are provided by the cafe adjoining the hotel and the menu is limited to 4 options, with which we had no complaints. There are no safes in the rooms but the staff will store any valuables securely for you at reception for 30 baht. Hair dryers can be hired for a one off minimal fee of 50 baht. Massages are available in the lobby or private room, the prices are very reasonable and the massage ladies are very good at what they do. We have already recommended Parasol Inn to fellow travellers.

Great location & great people”

location couldn't be better and the staff were incredible

the parasol inn is perfect. the day after we checked in we extended our stay an additional week. it's that good. it's situated in the old city (within the ancient moats, gates and walls), so darn near everything you would like to see/buy/eat in chiang mai is within walking distance. ancient parasol rooms overlook the grounds of wat chedi luang and wat pan tao, including the fountain behind pan tao and the pagoda behind chedi luang, giving you one of the best views you could ask for in chiang mai. the rooms themselves are very clean and are decorated nicely in a "lanna style". hey, who wants a room that looks like it came out of an ikea catalog when you're in thailand? the staff were top notch. they helped us arrange our tours (check out something different tours), and re-arrange them when we needed to change the dates. when i hurt my arm (i'm just clumsy) ning was genuinely concerned for me. when we had questions, they had answers. how much should we pay for a ride to the airport? are there any late night pizza places and how do we get there? on top of that, breakfast is included. continental (toast, drinks, fruit), american (eggs, bacon/ham/sausage, toast, drinks and fruit), or asian (boiled rice with chicken/pork/beef).

best hotel ever!”

Everyone there was friendly and helpful.
Nothing really. Maybe an elevator is needed?

I booked Parasol Inn because it was mentioned in Lonely Planet. And the experience turned out to be really good. We were able to check in as early as 9:30 am, which was really nice for us because we had spent an uncomfortable night in the bus. Walking around was wonderful enough. The old city was clean and quiet. We saw many temples. Every staff there was extremely helpful. The tours they arranged for us were nice and memorable. One special thing to mention is the location of this hotel. It is at the center of the Sunday Market, which is convenient (you can shop, and then drop your bags at the hotel and relax, and then go on shopping). If I have a chance to visit Chiang Mai again, I will definitely still choose Parasol Inn!

Great location - beautiful rooms”

Location. Service, Rooms

The Parasol inn is located right in the middle of the old city in Chiang Mai, absolutely ideal from a tourist viewpoint. Right next door to a beautiful old temple and in the middle of the "Sunday walking market" area. (This market is a MUST - every Sunday night - unbelievable low prices and incredible stuff to buy and see)The staff at the hotel are great and the rooms particularly beautiful. Great value for money. Only negative is the adjoining restaurant (where you have included breakfast) is very limited and really not great - but there are many places close by - I recommend "The green Mango" a few blocks towards the south gate.

Fantastic, Central Location.”

Good sized rooms, fast internet, friendly, helpful staff

we have never stayed in chiang mai before and took a chance on the parasol inn hotel. it could not have been a better choice! the rooms were well appointed, clean and a decent size. bathrooms were also spacious and ours had a great view of the temple right outside. parasol conveniently located for many sight-seeing locations including the chiang mai zoo, and restaurants. there was also a night market just across the street offering a great selection of both food and wares. we would definitely stay here again when we visit chiang mai. the breakfasts were tasty, i recommend the boiled rice and chicken. the omelet was also very good. the staff were incredibly friendly and always willing to assist with enquiries and sight-seeing tips. their knowledge of english was also very good.

Great location and friendly staff”

Located in the heart of the old city next to one of the most picturesque temples in Chiang Mai.

The Parasol Inn is a very well run boutique hotel in the heart of Chiang Mai's old town. It is a five minute walk to the Thapae Gate and the canal. Step out of the hotel and you are literally in the middle of the famous Sunday Market. In addition to the many beautifully adorned temples in the old town, there is a lovely centuries-old, wooden temple right next door to the hotel. The room I had was spacious with a large bathroom, a/c and free wireless for my laptop. Breakfast (Asian or Western style) is also offered free. Best of all is the friendly, helpful and professional staff. The Parasol Inn is priced very reasonably and I would recommend it to anyone who wants value for their money and enjoys being treated with warm hospitality.

Best Place in Chiang Mai!”

price, perfect location, quality of room, staff, friendliness, everything!

If your idea of travelling is staying in the Four Seasons/Mandarin Oriental/other-cookie-cutter-type-hotels-that-look-the-same-in-CDG-and-BKK, then you probably don't want to heed my review. If you are a traveller looking for a great Chiang Mai style in the absolute heart of Chiang Mai at a great hotel with a terrific price point, then I say look no further, Parasol Inn is perfect and in the heart of everything. Sunday Walking Market/Night Markets/the River/and the most well known Wats are all right there, in fact when you wake up in the morning and look out the window, two of your neighbors are beautiful Wats. A terrific stay all around!

A cute hotel in a great location!”

location, staff, decorations

Normally, things look better online than in person but Parasol Inn proved to be the opposite! It's really close to the airport (~10 min taxi ride) but seemed like a world away. It's also right in the middle of old city and is seconds away from temples, ~10 min walk away from the markets, and ~30 min walk from the night bizarre (we got lost so it may take less time). When we first got in, the man at the front desk was quick greet us with a smile, give us our keys, two maps, cookies, and directions to a street full of restaurants for dinner! He also marked the best places to see on the map and helped people that had heavy bags! The room was bigger than expected and everything worked perfectly. For those bringing things that need to be charged, they have Type A sockets (N. America/China). They do use 220V so those from N. America will need a voltage converter (unless you have a plug that has that built in). My friend and I only found two plugs, but we didn't look very hard. The decorations in our room were beautiful (I believe we were in 405). We loved the elephants that sat on the beds. I had hoped to get one just like it, but I couldn't find the same one (there were some in shops that were a different size or material). The restaurant for the included set breakfast was good. The staff in the hotel were also helpful when we were looking at excursions. Definitely go to the temple on the mountain with the village! There is a coffee shop in the village that has great coffee with an amazing view and a beautiful garden. We also found this amazing place for massages ~5 min from the hotel on the street right before the police station (on the left). It has a big blue sign that says massage. The prices were cheaper and the massages were great! The hotel is in a great location and the service is excellent! We're already planning to go back! FYI, don't expect a toothbrush or toothpaste in the rooms. They do provide two free bottles of water daily and great free Wi-Fi, though!

Not much room for improvement at the Parasol Inn.”

Value for the price, clean and lovely rooms, amazing efficient hotel staff.

from the moment we walked into our hotel, we felt like we'd won the lottery. i took a tip from a moon travel guide written by suzie nam (who happens to be a friend of mine-- though i bought the guide unaware of this fact). i also visited her blog where she mentioned it again. i only wish she had mentioned that the beds were rock hard! i swear though, other than the beds being nearly unbearable on my bad back, we were in heaven getting the necessary two hour massages daily just to survive the zip lining through the jungle, the cooking classes, the exploration of caves and well...our bed. looking back, if we had simply bought a quilt at the sunday market for $4, we could have probably made it manageable. we just are not used to the mattresses to which, i suppose, most thai people are accustomed. our friends in lampang also had a brand new hard mattress they bought especially for our arrival. the manager of the parasol, kate, is an amazing women dedicated to improving anything and everything necessary. she is aware of americans not finding them all that comfy so she is preparing to do an entire upgrade! wow! if she did that, the parasol would be utter perfection! the location is phenomenal. walking around the sunday market right outside our front door was amazing. walking around hotel on any day was great. we used a tailor to copy a few of our blouses. we took two cooking classes that were unforgettable at siam thai rice cookery. we investigated massage schools in the area for a potential return visit in which we will definitely be staying at the parasol (upgraded beds or not). yok, in particular, has an exciting career ahead of her in hotel management. the city of chiang mai was a better experience because of her. we just knew if we asked her anything, she would be 100% truthful and that if she volunteered to take care of something, we were always pleasantly surprised by her offer and by the results! great suggestion! we will recommend!

Lovely hotel & service with many smiles”

Cleanliness of room, large size of bedroom and bath, stunning decor on walls, extremely comfortable bed

The Parasol Inn Hotel was the best hotel in the Old Town section of Chiang Mai. The entire staff went out of their way to ensure that my stay was perfect! They gave me a walking map of the Old Town, helped me with directions and transportation to places I wanted to see along with their recommendations. The attached resturant where breakfact was served (along with other meals) was comfortable and a great place to watch the monks and others going by. The staff at the hotel and resturant greated me by name each day. The manager even took me to dinner one night! When I left, all of the staff and waiters came out to see me off. I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay there again!

Comfortable Gem in the Heart of Town”

Location, service

I stayed at Parasol Inn for three nights in January. The hotel provided the basic amenities we came to expect in Thailand. The room and bathroom were large, clean and comfortable. The hotel provided free wifi and a choice of breakfast off the menu. A great way to power up before a day of sightseeing. The location was fantastic, right in the heart of the old town. It is also along the same road as the Weekend walking market. We were not there for either however. You can also easily access all of the main temples and the Night Market is about a 10-15 minute walk. Service was always pleasant and the night man even comped me some internet time when the free wifi was down. We booked a few things through the hotel with mixed results. First off the hotel arranged for pickup from the airport and quoted us around 350 Baht for three of us. The airport turned out to be very close to the hotel and taxis into town advertised at 120 Baht total! I asked the receptionist and she claimed the price was higher because it was late at night. Poor excuse if you ask me. We also inquired about a day tour for hiking, elephant riding, white water rafting etc. The hotel quoted us 1000 Baht per person, so we decided to ask agencies nearby. The prices varied from 900-1000, so it seemed the hotel was not marking up the price. On our last day we also booked a truck to take us to Doi Suthep. The receptionist negotiated a solid price after some prodding from me and I was able to convince the driver to take us to the airport for 100 Baht total! A far cry from the 300+ we were charged on the way in, but such is life when traveling. Overall I would definitely recommend Parasol.

A nice, convenient and good value hotel”

Central and very convenient location for walking around the old city, right on walking street on Sunday, helpful staff

there were lots of choices of hotel to choose from in the old city of chiang mai, and though it wasn't my first choice i was very glad i chose this one. i'm a chiang mai old hand, was on a business trip, but had a young relative with me. it was her first time in chiang mai. the hotel worked out very well for both of us. i went to do my things while she was able to walk around the city by herself some afternoons. many temples and nice little boutiques and restaurants near the hotel. we booked a day hiking tour though the hotel for water rafting, elephants, etc. and it was great. the breakfast choices at the hotel were fine and the staff were very nice and helpful. we were upgraded to a deluxe room (without asking). the bed was good, aircon clean, and bathroom adequate. the only i don't like about the hotel: the bathroom amenities were rather minimal.

Fantastic location and service”

Service

We picked this hotel based on pictures and reviews knowing just that we wish to stay in old city and pay an affordable (though not strictly budget) price. Parasol went above our expectations on all accounts. We picked an "Ancient Parasol" type of room and received a perfectly clean and tastefully decorated room with traditional furniture. The room itself does not have a window, i.e. it does but it opens into a bathroom that in turn has a window overlooking an active Buddhist temple next door. A little weird design but it did not bother us in any way. In the morning you will be woken up by small bells and prayers. Provided breakfast is standard fare but tasty and fulfilling. Location is fantastic, smack in the center, at the intersection of two major roads (little traffic so no noise problems) and should you stay here on Sunday, major market is right at your doorstep. everything else is just a short walking distance away. What makes this place stand out head and shoulders however is service. Front desk girls (we met Nim and Danil) are fabulous. They went out of their way to point out attractions and places to eat. They also booked all our trips, negotiated discounts everywhere and even managed to book a rafting trip (that we forgot to book earlier) overnight! Only remark I have is that bed was really hard.

relaxing, enjoyable interesting”

location, friendly staff, atmosphere

We stayed 4 nights at the Parasol Inn Hotel and chose it largely becuase of its location. The location was excellent and within walking distance of a range of attractions including the Night Bazaar (about 15 minutes walk). The staff at the Parasol and at the restaurant downstairs were excellent - we were warmly welcomed and everything we asked for was well accommodated and reliable information provided. Our rooms were at the back of the hotel and hence were not at all noisy. The rooms were very clean and beds very comfortable. The art work on the walls was interesting, but we were alert to this from the photos provided. All in all our stay was very good and we would certainly stay at the Parasoll Inn again.

Great location and wonderful staff”

location, staff

Great hotel located in the Old City. Rooms are tastefully decorated and the staff go out of their way to help make your stay enjoyable. As other reviewers have mentioned, the Sunday Market is right outside of the hotel doors and the Saturday Market is just a short walk away. Will definitely choose The Parasol the next time I am in Chiang Mai.

Good place to stay in Chiang Mai ”

Helpful staff, great location, good money value

Great location at old city area, 3mins walk to one of the largest, fabulous temple in Chiang Mai, Saturday and Sunday market is on the street that in one min walk from this hotel. it's very easy to access public transportation, either. The room we stayed is clean, lovely, colorful and is decorated in Thai style. One drawback of this room is when you finish the shower, the floor is flooded simply because the bathroom and the washroom is connected, which means no door between them. The food and the drinking water on sight in the room are all free except the drinks in the refrigerator. I also need to mention that there is a small safe box in the room which just awesome. The staffs can speak English, and they all very friendly and helpful. Meanwhile, i also suggest you to check the price of taking tuk tuk and the red car to anyplace with the staff before you go,that will save you a lot of money. The last thing I want to mention is they have a great restaurant.

Great Hotel, friendly and helpful staff”

comfortable clean rooms.

This hotel is positioned just 10 minutes walk from Chiang Mai Gate. It is clean, comfortable and well managed. The manager and her staff are most helpful. I would not hesitate to stay at The Parasol Inn again and I would confidently recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Great Hotel in the heart of the old city.”

Location, rooms, restaurant.

I really loved the Parasol Inn and only have one negative thing to say about it. I read several reviews from others who said the same thing, the staff is rude. When I travel I pack light and have laundry done as needed. According to their amenities and services they have laundry service for their guests. When I took mine to the front desk, I was told they don't have laundry service and to go down the street (a 5 minute walk) to a local laundry. The Parasol inn sits on the corner of a busy intersection which means there are 4-ways to go, but no directions. I went outside and found the restaurant manager and he directed me. The rooms are really nice, each one is different with a theme from one of the many temples inside the city. No elevator, but it's only 4-floors and I didn't mind that. Yes I would stay there again, and recommend it, but don't go there expecting top of the line service.
