Reasonably priced. Wifi connection is unstable. Toilet and bathroom is way too small.
My favourite hotel near Zhongshan Park”
Whenever I am back in Shanghai with meetings in Puxi, I will be staying in this hotel as it is near town but yet not in the busiest location.
Stayed many times. ”
My stay this time was short but a better experience than of late. Lance on reception and David in the restaurant/bar are great! I was given the larger room at the back for a good upgrade price. The bathroom is big as is the room. The other rooms are OK but the bathrooms are tiny. As I have said before the rooms are dated and do smell but are perfectly adequate. The breakfast and food in general is very good and reasonably priced.
I've stayed at this hotel for more than 3 times and found it to be very convenient and with easy access to subway and eateries. However, the EGO-bus that provides airport transfers has stopped operating from the New World Hotel that is just beside Penta - which is a pity!
Only complain was the lack of multilingual staff. English was simply not understood by any of the front desk staff (though this was hardly an isolated ocurrence, as this was an issue thorughout our trip). Other than that, location was excellent, staff were friendly. Room, though small, was enough for us two and it was clean.
price is reasonable, room is spacious.
Great hotel but check you get what you booked!”
I've stayed here many times and keep coming back so it must be good. Great location, value for money, food and loft style foyer. Rooms OK. Dated decor, very small bathrooms and smell bad. Booked Pentaplus and the hotel said it was for standard room even though Agoda confirmed it was for Pentaplus and I had the voucher to prove it. After some time they agreed to give me what I booked. This has happened before where the hotel tried to give me a standard room instead of a plus room so check before you accept the key. Also, the hotel has charged considerably more than what Agoda said was the total price including all taxes. I tried to discuss this but got the feeling if I refused to pay the extra I wouldn't have had a room for the night!
I always choose to stay in Pentahotel because of its convenience for food and subway, though quite far from Pudong airport, about RMB200 by taxi. This time it was supposed to be a pleasant stay through whole week. However, the day before I checked out, I went to ask the staff if it's possible to make a late checkout. I was expecting that they would have checked my room number or just declined my request politely, but one female staff just answered me without patience and not looking at me at all. She kept being busy with her things on the other side of the counter. When my friend and I heard her answer, we were just speechless..........but except this, no other complaint. Plus the hotel foreign manager is quite friendly.
Another stay and still happy”
Reviewed this hotel many times now. I keep coming back. Good value and well located. Room style (80's German) doesn't match the trendy foyer. Staff can be a bit robotic. Bathrooms super small. Rooms still smell weird. But in general great place at a great price. PS I have noticed the price creeping up though.
Great hotel but has negatives”
So I probably have stayed here 5-6 times here now so it must be good overall. Foyer is trendy and stylish. Rooms require updating. Bathrooms really small, I mean really small. Carpets smell a bit weird but tolerable. First time they fobbed me off with a normal room when I booked a PentaPlus. I told reception who denied it but after they realised I was aregular customer and knew the rooms gave me the correct room. Pentaplus have a sofa and robes so be aware. David in the bar/restaurant area is a great guy and super helpful.
Great hotel in a great location”
I've reviewed this hotel many times. I stay there every time I work in SH. It has a great foyer and breakfast/bar area, very stylish. The rooms are dated, kind of UK 80's German styling. They need updated but they are clean and kind of retro (not intentional though). They can smell weird. The carpets I think. Anyway the fact I stay there every time means I like it. Staff are OK if a bit city type unfriendly.
Affordable and comfortable”
A bit plus for the location and the convenience if you wish to go towards the center of the City (Jing An Temple, Nanjing Lu and evven Pudong) because of the subway line 2. Also it is clean and the bed is comfortable (not too hard compared to some other chinese hotels). The restaurant is reasonably tasty and the breakfast is correct. There is a parking lot just behind the hotel which is very convenient to leave your vehicule and the hotel will provide you a coupon free of charge.
Good hotel and location”
I have stayed here many times now so it gets a thumbs up from me. The foyer and bar/retaurant area are cool but unfortunately the rooms have not been afforded the same treatment. They are fine but dated (80's euro style, peach, really!). Big pluses are the rooms are quiet and hotel location is perfect for access and shops. As always I need to mention the smell which is an ongoing issue but not enough to stop me staying here.
Very good well located hotel”
Great budget-mid end hotel with trendy lobby in a perfect location for transport and restaurants/eateries. Rooms are good (get the pentaplus) but have dated interiors and often smell funky. I'll continue to book here.
Friendly staffs, clean & near to metro ”
I like the overall concept of this hotel, especially the front counter, it is just like a cafe area. Staffs are very helpful and friendly, room service is efficient. The only not that good is the Wifi connection.
Staying at this property the second time in 2 years. I like it even more with the inexpensive breakfast and choice of restaurants at the malls at the underground station. This is definitely my choice if I need to be at Changning area again.
Great value and experience for westerners”
Outside of a 5 star international chain this would have been the best hotel experience I've had in China. In fact, for younger travelers this place probably offers a better experience than the 5 stars. Plenty of western/foreign guests staying and Hanging out in the restaurant. Admittedly the 'make your own bloody mary's' during 11-4pm brunch were my standout experience, but the decor, service, location, food and overall value make this a place a win
Value for Money”
Convenient location, walking distance to Zhongshan mrt and shopping. Taxis outside hotel only take passengers to airport and not anywhere else especially places near by. However, they are happy to help you flag a taxi. Hotel staff also offered help with this.
Great Location, awesome lounge bar”
The hotel is just few meters away from the subway very near to Nanjing Road and Jingan Temple area. The reception area looks like a bar (located to the Pentalounge), have to ask if that is the reception. Although, the lounge bar has this chic and hip ambiance, with discounted cocktails during their happy hour. The room is okay for the price, bed is comfortable, however, the bathroom is very small. Upon check out the next day, we were surprised that the pentalounge is full. They offer Sunday brunch at 148 RMB with Bloody Mary bar. 80% of the crowd are foreigners. It was a pity that we booked brunch somewhere else, perhaps next time we can try theirs.
Great overnight stay”
A very comfortable stay at the Hotel. We were greeted immediately by the concierge on arrival as there was limited street parking for our taxi. Paul at the concierge desk went beyond our expectations by personally booking our train ticket online, as the booking office was closed Great place to stay in Shanghai.
