Pencil Pine Cabins ROCK! ”

Very luxurious hotel right at the top of Cradle Mountain, lovely surroundings full of nature and 3 walks easily accessible from the hotel that are suitable for the whole family

Our stay at the Cradle Mountain Lodge was indescribable! As we visited Tassie during winter, which was considered off-peak non-touristy period, we enjoyed reasonable room rates that was definitely value for money. The exterior of the Pencil Pine Cabins looked really woody and rustic, but when you step into the cabin, you will enter a whole new world, with brightly lit rooms and wonderful beds, a stereo to allow you to play your music, do note that there is no television in the room, a lovely remote controlled fireplace to regulate your room temperature, a wonderful bathroom with a strong heater, allowing you to enjoy a hot shower without having to go through the teeth clattering from the cold when you step out of the shower. The view from our cabin was unforgettable as well, we had a lovely view of the main lodge that houses the reception area and a lovely view of a lake. The design of the interior of the cabin was very modern and comfortable, we had no complains and found it hard to believe we were in the mountains. However, the cutlery that was provided in the room still had remnants of food left on it and that really disgusted us, housekeeping must have overlooked that bit... it was fortunate that we brought our own plastic cutlery along. Each cabin can take a maximum of 3 persons and there's plenty of room for all~ We also drove into the st. clair national park and visited the dove lake, definitely worth visiting! A 7.5km drive from Cradle Mountain Lodge. We also did the wonderful King Billy track, Enchanted Stroll and the Waterfalls Walk which allowed us to see the Pencil Pine Falls and Knyvet Falls... all these walks were easily accessible from the lodge. The King Billy track was really lovely... and I have never been into such a dense forest so deep before, the peacefulness and serenity of the forest did scare me a little, being the city girl I am. I have only seen forests like these in the movies. Do not be fooled by the "easy" grade for the Enchanted Stroll

Beautiful scenary and comfortable cabins”

Complimentary port and cookies, the animals, the fireplace and location

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge and used it as a base to climb Cradle Mountain. The cabins are quite simple but spacious and warm. The hotel grounds are beautiful and well located with little meandering paths everywhere. The hotel left complimentary port and cookies in our room which was almost as nice a surprise as the wombat, possum and wallabies that roamed around our porch and the hotel grounds - completely unafraid of us. We loved that there was no t.v, and that the room was huge. The bed was a little bit lumpy and could probably use an upgrade and there is a small amount of maintenance required in the rooms (i.e. the heated towel rack was broken), but overall this was an exceptional getaway to a very beautiful and underrated part of Australia. The three course meal we had at the restaurant was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Everything served was perfect. Do steer clear of the Bistro though as the meals are almost as expensive as in the restaurant and no where near as good.

Fantastic location and the spa is amazing!”

Location, Food, Spa, Rooms

The staff at Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge were great, they helped us out with everything we needed. The Highland Restaurant was fantastic! We got to select the wine ourselves from the cellar and then enjoyed a 3 course degustation - every thing we tried was delicious. The rooms are nice, no televisions at all - allowing you to enjoy the views and atmosphere. Also the Waldheim Alpine Spa is magnificent - we only tried 'The Sanctuary' which is the steam rooms, sauna, spa bath etc. but the spa bath is in the open with the forrest within your reach - amazing!

Alpine lodge with some great extras”

Reasonably priced with great breakfast

We stayed at the pepper cradle lodge for 1 night on a tassie weekend away. The lodge is rustic and has a great tavern and guest areas for chilling out after a day at cradle mountain. The rooms don't like that exciting from the outside but are nice inside just as you would expect for this type of accomodation. The breakfast is great and staff are helpful.

@ Peppers in Feb”

Located about 2+ hours drive away from Launceston or 4 hours from Hobart, cradle mountain offers a quiet retreat, and Peppers did just that: be prepared not to have wifi in the rooms, intermittent telco connection (but there will be wifi connectivity in the lounge area) for those who cannot live without data! We stayed in the pencil pine cabin for 2 nights, and parking is available just outside the cabin. The first afternoon we had visitor: wallaby! The cabin is also located walks, suitable for children. Room was quiet and clean, with a gas heater (fireplace) to warm up the room up to individual’s preference. The hotel even provided us with a surprise bottle of wine (as we were celebrating our honeymoon!) - that’s a nice touch! The only additional feedback I will provide: the 2 washers (located in another cabin nearby) wasn’t functioning though the dryers were. Overall, a good stay!

Wonderful cabin, great walking tracks and views.”

Ambience of our cabin, Rustic presentation of the Lodge, Close proximity to Cradle Mountain National park and Dove lake.

What a wonderful three nights we had at Cradle Mountain. The Lodge is excellently located at the heart of the entry into the National Park and approximately 100 metres from the Rangers station. Also about 2 kms from the Visitors Centre where all tours and day passes to the National Park can be arranged. But, don't be concerned about this distance as the daily buses into the park can also be caught at the rangers Station. The Lodge itself is excellent. We had a Deluxe Spa Cabin and it was terrific. Big, comfortable and with a good view over the hills nearby. The fireplace in our room was great and provided all the warmth you could need on a cold day or night. Firewood was plentiful just outside your cabin. The Lodge had 2 eating options with a Tavern or an A LA Carte restaurant. There is also a Gift Shop, which includes snacks, ice creams etc. Overall a great place for a holiday.

Paradise”

I spent 2 nights at Peppers Cradle Mountain. The first night in a Spa Suite. Gorgeous! A perfect room to relax with a glass of bubbles, soaking in a spa bath before relaxing in front of the wood fire looking out over the bush with wombats roaming free. The next night was in a Pencil Pine Cabin, simpler, cheaper but again a gorgeous night sitting in front of a gas fireplace looking out over the bush. Everything about this resort is gorgeous. A 3 minute walk into the National Park to catch the free shuttle to spend the days walking through such a beautiful park. I will definitely be returning here. A must stay!

You're paying for the exquisite location, the hotel is definitely not luxury, service quite mixed”

Luckily Cradle Mountain itself did not disappoint, I loved it, but the hotel didn't quite live up to my expectations or its price tag. I think it's because it sells itself as a "luxury" hotel, and prices itself so. Whereas I would say it's a comfortable cosy mountain lodge. My room was comfortable and warm, but the shower room quite spartan, and a very cold visit in the middle of the night! I don't know how they managed to design the resort layout so that despite being in a site of such stunning natural beauty, I just felt like my cabin was on a road, looking at the back of other cabins. Not what I'd expected. The fine dining experience was not fine dining. The food was actually very tasty when it arrived, but the poor waiting staff was having to deal with increasingly unhappy diners as we waited and waited for our food. They tried their hardest, but if you have to wait an hour between your starter and your main course, a friendly smile isn't enough to paper over the fact that something is obviously wrong in the kitchen. It was hard to find a table for breakfast both mornings because most of the tables hadn't been cleared from the previous diners. And another service miss was that I had emailed in advance to ask about booking a guided walk and was told I could just sort it out on arrival. When I arrived, no-one knew anything about this request, and there were no walks available. They sorted this out pretty quickly, but I kept being asked who I'd been dealing with, and it threw the reception staff into quite a tizzy - kind of like I was being demanding. Anyway, I ended up going on a fantastic 4 hour guided walk (I think with John, I should have done this review earlier), and I was very impressed by his deep local knowledge, he had an answer for every question I threw at him. I would highly recommend to do at least one guided walk, just to get some of the local flora & fauna knowledge. I did another long one on my own the next day, the paths and variety are great. Ot

Rejuvenating experience, prime location in close proximity to national park, wildlife within reach.”

This is my second time staying in Cradle Mountain Lodge. 99% satisfaction. Prime location in close proximity to National Park, wildlife everywhere, pademelons and their joeys and currawong came visiting us in the cabin. Complimentary hampers with loads of goodies and free pot wine to keep you loaded, lots of fun with the cabin fire furnace, and many hikes from mild to challenging to choose. The only very minor minus is that the CD player is pretty worn down and wasn’t working well. Luckily I brought my Bose Bluetooth speaker. Nevertheless, you don’t need speaker at all as the symphony of nature will give you lots of fun.

Ideal place for a relaxed holiday”

Minutes away from Cradle Mountains rain forests

The lodge's location is most ideal as it is at the entrance of the Cradle Mountains. It has several walk tracks that are suitable for family with adolescent children, as the length of these tracks varied from 15 minutes to 2.5 hours. These tracks could be accessible instantly just outside the lodge. The staff are friendly and approachable and there are interesting programs organised every night and you will not be bored. The foods in the restaurant are excellent and to my surprise, the prices fairly reasonable. I had a lovely experience in a cold morning when I saw falling snow rain in the midst of my strode in the rain forest. It is like Alice in Wonderland.

Location, environment of the campsite

I feel very comfortable and relax in staying there. Food and hotel facilites should be very good considering a hotel just next to the entrance of a national park. However I found that the hotel charge me the room rate again to my credit card without my authorization, though I had already made the payment to Agoda month ago. I would like Agoda or the Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge to give me an explanation.

At the doorstep to unique trekking.”

positioned close to National Park, with the feel of a mountain chalet, access to walks within the grounds.

Peppers Cradle Mountain ticked all the boxes for us. We had a few nights and three days to trek the local trails of the World Heritage National Park. Certainly an amazing experience, rich with animals in the wild, and scenery that makes you forget the city rush for a while. If you like nouveau cuisine the a la carte restaurant is for you, but we preferred the hearty mountain meals of the bistro, after six hour walks during the day. Local to the hotel we recommend a visit to the Tasmanian Devil Sanctuary to watch them feed and learn about saving this endangered species. Lastly don't miss the walks that start just near reception, the longer ones which take you high up with magnificent views of Cradle Mountain.

At least once in a lifetime!”

We are comeback customers, and spent 3 nights in the King Billy Suite to celebrate our Pearl (30th) Anniversary! We did have a comfy, peaceful and wonderful stay in this luxurious cabin which was spacious, well designed and equipped with top-notched facilities. All hotel staffs are helpful and friendly! The breakfast and the dinner foods of their Highland Restaurant were not only delicious, but mostly local or home made. Though the price of the cabin was relatively on high side, we believe to have got the true value behind every dollar spent. The location of this resort is perfect for those hikers who visit the Cradle Mountain- St. Claire Lake National Park. Every nature lover should contemplate to stay at this luxurious resort at least once in a lifetime. We shall be back whenever visiting Tasmania again!

Great wilderness experience in A1 accommodation”

High attention to comfort in room, e.g. fire, bed, bath, toiletries, biscuits, apples, port, hors d"oeuvres etc; professional and friendly staff

Our experience at Cradle Mountain Lodge was the highlight of our holiday in Tasmania. The friendliness of the staff and their willingness to ensure that we were comfortable and had information of walks and activities made out stay in such a beautiful and pristine environment memorable. Our regret was that it was too short but we will be back!

Great Location getaway for Couple”

The walks/tracks around the hotel

booked the contemporary spa cabin, room is nice, not much of a view looking out from the room with vegetation around. the pouch is dirty, plus it's not being clean up thus can forget about sitting out in the pouch. of course u can expect visit of possum just outside your glass door to the pouch in the evening/night. many wildlife just outside the cabin, we saw wombats, wallaby, birds and was lucky enough to spot a devil in the wild further in the woods around. room a rather pricey compared to other accommodation in the area, there's no need to spend more for the spa cabin, after all the only difference is the spa bathe tub which we didn't even use. else the food in the tavern is one of the better one around the area. best part of this place is the few walks around the hotel just right at your doorstep. ideal for families and easy walk to nature without the need to go into the national park. of course for more adventurous and view of cradle mountain, i would recommend a walk up to marion's lookout in the national park.
