Good value while special offers on”

Phowadol resort is a nice place, just outside Chiang Rai, convenient for getting to main sites if you have your own car. If you do not have your own transport I would not recommend this place. Maybe because it is off season it felt a bit run down. The ponds which the villas surround were murky and green which spoils a beautiful layout design. Our villa was spacious and comfortable with a nice seating area as well as the bed area. However, the phone did not work which meant no room service ordering nor arranging the ground transport for luggage collection etc and this was not fixed despite reporting it. Also the wifi was poor and despite two staff members trying to fix it I was unable to get wi-fi on my iPad throughout the stay, it only worked in the restaurant. Very disappointing and inconvenient. However, given the special price option it was worth the money paid. However, I would probably look at other alternatives in Chiang Rai next time.

I cannot speak highly enough about this incredible resort”

My wife and I originally booked 5 days here and ended up staying for nearly two weeks. A lot of travelers come through here just for a day or two as part of a tour group and miss out on the incredible, relaxing area that is Chiang Rai. Even though we only booked a basic room the staff upgraded us to an incredible cabin on a small pond, and were incredibly friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. The swimming pool is amazing. Definitely helpful to rent a motorbike or car as this hotel is a bit far from the city center. I would give six stars if I could, thanks Phowadol!

Wonderful resort at budget hotel rate”

Hotel environment, staff, food - all are excellent.
Swimming pool is dirty & gym isn't open.

The hotel is located in resort environment, I firstly surprised to see the ambient atmosphere with super staff service when I checked in. Chiang Rai is a very nice province upnorth of Thailand, it's fully filled with Thai cultural and natural experiences. Before I booked this hotel, I have gone thru the comments, most of them looked positive to me. I didn't disappoint myself to stay in this hotel. Breakfast was good, staff was nice, room was clean with perfect amenities, lots of car park space, free night ride to night market, beautiful flowers/trees all along the walkway, etc. Unfortunately, swimming pool was a bit off. Gym wasn't open in the morning. A bit far from downtown, therefore, those who have no car may find it a bit difficult, however, hotel has a service ride at reasonable price to anywhere in town.

It gets better each time I return”

Gracious People, Serene Enviroment

In my earlier trips to Chiangrai, before Phowadol Resort & Spa was built, I had stayed in Rimkok Resort & Dussit Hotel. Since Phowadol Resort & Spa was built, I would not choose any other in place of Phowadol. This trip, I visited Imperial Hotel & Luckswan Hotel to consider for my next trip but my choice remains with Phowadol. Why? It gets better each time I return. The whole compound is so serene for a quiet retreat eventhough I had a hectic schedule for what I have to do in Chiangrai in the day. I love the sprawling green garden & the architecture design. Very exotic.

October Overnight”

Pool's temperature, cleanliness, & towel service were all perfect, the open air lobby is beautifully decorated, beds are wonderfully comfy, restaurant food was tasty and reasonably priced, and it was not crowded
Food service was rather slow, communication was difficult in English, for example it wasn't clear if we could rent the bicycles or not, (but if so, it would be a definite pro), spa prices seemed relatively expensive

This was an enjoyable and relaxing stay. The open air lobby is beautifully decorated, and the staff is friendly. The electric tuk-tuks were unobtrusively quiet and fun to ride especially with a group. The room was nicely appointed although the tub's rather used appearance didn't seem to match the higher standards seen elsewhere. The slow service at the restaurant was forgivable given the affordable prices (breakfast was included so no complaints there.) The pool was a definite plus; clean and lovely with excellent towel service. When in Chiang Rai, I will remember the Phowadol.

We enjoyed our stay”

Clean modern rooms, good breakfast, in season buffet, otherwise menu. Nice medium sized family swimming pool, clean and gym. Free wifi.Friendly staff.
Airport service is 200 THB per person.

We liked our stay at the Phowadol. It was our second time. It is a very good choice, a little bit out of Chiang Rai, but the Resort provides transport for 80 THB to town all day.It is a calm cosy clean place, conveniently located close to airport and close to attractions like Mekong River and Golden Triangle trips. If you plan to explore the region consider renting a car at the airport as hotel excursions do not come cheap.

Lovely hotel, relaxing location”

nice rooms, friendly staff, free shuttle to night market
bad breakfast, located out of downtown

Phowadol was a great place to stay in Chiang Rai as long as you know what you're getting. The rooms were lovely, the staff are kind and very helpful (even more so if you can speak Thai), and the pool is great. They have a free shuttle to the night market, which is very convenient. Having a car would help a good deal. The breakfast was pretty bad as well, but not the biggest deal. Overall, worth it for the relaxing setting and a feeling of being outside the touristy areas.

A Gem in Chiang Rai”

Very nice gym with great equipment, nice pool.
Garden seemed a bit overgrown.

This was a great property located near the city of Chiang Rai. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly by the hotel staff. We booked a cottage and were upgraded to a cottage superior which was spacious and very clean. They had a tuk tuk that drove us to our cottage. This is a great find in Chiang Rai and we will definitely return. The breakfast was wonderful because it was cooked to order and not your your standard buffet.

lovely hotel with nice cottages”

best landscaping

we stayed her for 3 nights during our stay in chiang rai. the hotel is rather spread out with cottages on one side and a small room tower on the other side. the cottages had curtains tha could be seen through from inside the room but not outside during the day. at night, people can see in your room so make sure you close the thicker curtains. also there were murals of naked people on the walls in sexual positions. not sure how i feel about that. the hotel was clean and breakfast was good. i wouldnt mind staying here again.

Nice and quiet, best weekend get away”

fast and great service, almost no one there

We came during low season so there were very few guests staying at the same time as us. The service we were offered was great and the hotel itself is in great condition. Before going I saw some comments about the rooms being far and having to walk a lot at the hotel but that's all nonsense, the entire hotel area which we explored around was very small, less then 3 minutes walk to breakfast. The room itself was in excellent condition. There's really nothing bad I can say about it apart from the fact that the TV signal wasn't that great however that was due to it raining hard. My only complant real is that there is no free wifi in the rooms. This is something I come to expect when visiting hotels these days so was a little disappointed with that. The breakfast was standard breakfast you get at any hotel in asia. As per-usual my same complaints apply, the bread being the cheap stuff that's not nice to eat at all and too hard. Although the hotel had spa and swimming we didn't use these facilities. I did note however that the spa prices were pretty reasonable for a hotel. I would definitely visit again if I came to the area.

Good value for money”

Exceptionnaly good breakfast arrangement

The hotel is located outside of Chiang Rai. Buildings are nicely embedded in a garden like surrounding. The room was nicely equipped. Bathroom could need a refreshment. Swimming pool is good for pleasurely cooling down. The fitness room should have a staff member. Travelling regularly in the Chiang Rai region I fully recommend this hotel especially if you have your own car.

enviornment

It was a really nice resort which gains points for its beautiful garden, cool swimming pool and fantastic northern style spa. We spent our night at the spa and totally enjoyed it. Walking around in the resort is already a beautiful experience itself. It is a bit far from the crowd night market in chiang rai but it is always easy to catch a duk-duk ordered from the front desk. Loved it.

Excellent gym and pool, Rooms were very nice, Grounds nicely maintained

We spent two nights at hotel for a golf outing. The rooms are very nice with good amenities. The gym is well equipped but closes at 7 pm, so get there early. It is away from the city of Chiang Rai, so having your own car is definitely a plus, although they have a free van to the night market. The showers are nice, but don't count on using the bathtub, as it is half-size, just a place to step into to take a shower, or perhaps bathe a young child.

GREAT RESORT BUT OUT OF TOWN”

Cottages were pleasantly located around lakes, nice patios, lovely lush well tended gardens, great pool
the resort is so vast that if there are only a few guests staying, you feel quite isolated. The TV is in a ridiculous fixed position so you had to be in bed to view it

the resort is quite a distance from Chiang Rai so if you don't have your own transport it would not be an ideal place to stay. Fortunately we hired a car from Avis at the airport at a very reasonable rate. Check in staff were efficient but had limited English. The resort is vast and what I liked immediately was the fact that internal transport was by electric powered tuktuks or bicycles. Cottages are spacious and well supplied, although the TV is fixed at the bottom of the bed so you have to be in bed to view it! Room lighting was not adequate. Swimming pool was great, as was the gym and sauna. Main restaurant was adequate and breakfast had a good selection. There was another Western Restaurant at the back of the resort but this appeared never to have been used. The day we arrived we appeard to be the only guests and had the place toourselves. However, on arrival back from the Chiang Rai night market, three coachloads of Thai travellers had booked in....but were gone the next morning early.

Beautiful hotel just to the north of chang rai. Staff were brilliant and helpful rooms are five star and the grounds are gorgeous. Nice and quiet but five minutes into town by taxi for £2. Due to corvid the hotel was very quiet but ridiculously good value. Even at normal prices I would thoroughly recommend it for a stay in chang rai.

Nice quiet hotel just out of the town centre”

Good northern Thai hospitality

My wife and I stayed for our New year holiday and we really felt comfortable at Phowadol. We hired a car in Chiang Rai and that is something I would recommend as a lot of the attractions are outside the city. There are tours but we prefer to make our own itinerary. The hotel room was nice and comfortable, though nothing more than that. The hotel itself was good though it would be greatly improved with a few upgrades.

Quiet, secluded, great landscaping, beautiful swimming pool, good sauna, very good food, but a bit pricey for the spa.

we enjoyed the ambiance, peace and quiet as well as the comfortable exterior surroundings. the restaurant food was good with a good selection. thai massages at the spa were more expensive then some of the good hotels in bangkok but no better in quality of service. i would return here if i ever return to chiang rai.
