Hidden old-style gem
Large room, fridge, good location.
Although not a 'mansion', I can imagine it would have been in a previous life - it reminded me of "faded grandeur". The rooms are large with a view of a lovely old-style Thai teak mansion next door. There's everything you need: aircon, fridge, bathtub, TV (Thai), fantastic water pressure (hot), and a wardrobe. Two lovely senior Thai sisters run the hotel, speak English and are very helpful. So if you want to experience the "old Thailand" in a sea of modern high-rises, this is the place. Great location near Khao San Rd and the Wat (temple), lots of cafe's, massage shops, 7/11's, etc. And did I mention it is very quiet considering its location. The only downsides for me were: really old lumpy pillows (bought my own), no cable TV or Foxtel, and the rooms could do with a facelift (I thought it was a bit over-priced compared to new hotels/facilities). Other than that I was happy with my choice.

Nice Hotel, well positioned, very quiet.
Spacy. Extremely central. Very cheap.
There was no dinner/breakfast, so the rating cannot be but "3".

Could do with a facelift but still hard to beat
Location. Hot shower and bath. Comfy beds
We were the only guests staying here in October 2014. Room was not as good as we thought it would be but grew on us. Really good bathroom - important when travelling with a kid. And three live bands playing within a few metres of the entrance - not bad ! Look - its quirky, run by a strange pair of old sisters, but hot water, wifi and great location. Decent value.

Quiet location but close to amenities
Quiet location
The hotel had a small frontage but extended quite a distance to the rear, away from the road. My double room was spacious and the facilities were clearly explained to me. Furnishings were adequate for an overnight stay. The staff were frendly and very helpful in getting a taxi the next morning.

bad place
The teraces were nice
The room was not orderly maintained, no furniture beside an old rotten bed, no chair, nothing to hang up your clothings, bad aircon, old carpet, no guard in the night. Very bad much, much too expensive

Really nice people, but small dirty room
People were really nice
The room was tiny and looked like something out of a seedy movie. The towel smelled stale, there was no soap provided, and a front piece of the AC fell on me while I was sleeping. The gap at the bottom of the door meant that having the light on at night attracted every ill-meaning insect into the room. Not a pleasant experience, but the people who run the place were really nice. Maybe they gave me the worst room in the whole place. I've stayed at better places for less money in Bangkok, and for a few dollars more I've stayed at places far above and beyond.
