A comfortable place for a relaxing stay”
My sister and I stayed at Phuong Thao Homestay during our recent trip to Vietnam and had a very lovely stay - wishing only that we could have stayed for a longer time! I called the homestay before our trip down to the delta from Ho Chi Minh City and spoke with the owner's sister - her English is not as strong as the owner so she was only able to give me basic info about how to get down there, but it was enough for me to figure out the rest of the details and we made it no problem. Two motos picked us up from the ferry and when we arrived at the homestay we instantly felt like it was the perfect little oasis for escaping the chaos of HCMC. The owner showed us to our room, which was brand new (very comfortable beds by SE Asia standards, AC, clean bathroom, very spacious) and apologized because he was expecting a group of Vietnamese people coming to learn about his place because they were interested in opening homestays in their regions. Because of this group the owner did not pay much attention to us during our stay, so we were a bit disappointed we didn't have the chance to spend more time with him, but he was still attentive to our needs and making us comfortable. Dinner was not included and we ended up eating at a table by ourselves (because of the VN visitors), but the food was very good. The owner arranged for us to take a boat tour in the morning which was ok - it was nice cruising around the delta but the floating market was all wrapped up by the time we got there, the stops were just tourist traps and our "guide" hardly spoke to us. Exploring the island, relaxing in the hammocks and the friendliness of the staff made our stay very comfortable and pleasant, and also made it very hard to leave when we had to head back to HCMC. I would love to go back to the Mekong Delta to see more and I would certainly consider staying at Phuong Thao Homestay again too!

nice homestay in the heart of the mekong delta”
we spend four wonderful and relaxing days at phuong thao homestay. the staff is very nice, especially the owner who tries his very best to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. you can ask him everything and he'll try to help you with your further travel plans. you can do boat trips into the delta from there or take a bike (for free) and explore the beautiful area on your own.

Pleasant stay in the Mekong”
An Binh Island is a wonderful place to quietly enjoy the Mekong delta. Phuong Tao Homestay has bicycles available and immediate access to a canal for boat tours. It is just a five minute motorbike ride from the Vinh Long ferry. Mr. Phu is wonderfully welcoming and laid back.

two days in paradise”
What a nice place to stay in the Mekong Delta! The Homestay has beautiful rooms where you can experience sleeping in nature with open windows. If you want to see the island, just grab a bike and explore. Or ask for a tour to a small floating market. It was incredible! Also the staff is very friendly and relaxed, even they don't really speak English. But if you have any questions, ask Mr. Phu! He is really helpful about everything!

Nice place to settle down for a spell.”
It is rustic compared to what I've become used to in SE Asia. It was incredibly hot. There are several shared bathroom/showers so you won't die. No AC. The place is quiet and pretty. I didn't explore the island. I was there for two nights and spent a lot of my time sleeping off a lot of physical activity or watching geckos hunting moths in my room. I saw a skink scamper across the dining area. There are bicycles they let you use to get around. The menue is limited and the food I had was tasty. There are a pair of friendly smallish dogs that don't mind hanging out near you and don't get in your face with typical doggie demands. You can get by with English about as well as anywhere I've been to in my limited time in Vietnam. I went on a nice boat ride through a tiny bit of the maze of the Mekong delta. The female dog had puppies who are almost big enough to begin to make friends with the visitors.

Remote location. No river view.”
A motorbike met me at the bus terminal from Ben Tre. The 25 minute ride was extremely uncomfortable. Possibly the worst I have ever experienced. My room is small, only a double bed with a simple foam mattress. No other furniture. The room was clean, but no ceiling, so therefore no air-con. There was a fan and a mosquito net. There was a shuttered opening to the outside, but no view, just the wall of the accommodation block next door. The bathrooms are at the back of the accommodation buildings. The wash basins are in public view, but there are lockable shower cubicles, some with a toilet. The buildings are in the local style using traditional materials. The beer is 25k dong for a bottle. I paid only 8k dong in Ben Tre. There is no view of the river. There is just a dirt trackway, and beyond that a swamp. However, the river can be seen from further along the trackway. There is a pleasant garden surrounding the property. I was told that it's a 10 minute bicycle ride to the river ferry. (bikes can be borrowed at no charge). It's at least 20 minutes. You have to wait maybe 15 minutes or so for the ferry to arrive from the other side. Fare is 1000 dong. There is a good market in the town (turn left from the ferry and the market is on the right). Behind the market is the bus station. Buses to Can Tho leave every hour at 19k dong. Avoid returning to the accommodation after dark. The riverside pathway isn't lit. I slept well. It was very quiet. However, noise carries easily from the other rooms. Breakfast was a selection of fresh fruit, an omelette, bread and a pot of coffee. It was a good. Transfer to the ferry by motorbike after check-out is provided free of charge. Why this is called a homestay? There is nothing homely about it. It's a hostel in a poor location. The staff were pleasant, which is very nice when other things are not to your liking. I expected the accommodation to have a river view, and to be within walking distance of the ferry.

Enjoyable stay. Basic accommodation ”
I enjoyed my 3 night stay mainly because of the quiet and beautiful location and the trips that the owner kindly organised for me. These included a private door to door transfer by boat from Can Tho, a trip to Sa Dec and a boat trip to Cai Be floating market. I was also able to explore on a motorbike. Early evening I walked up to the main river channel to a river cafe called An Binh for a beer and to watch the sunset. They also bred crocodiles for handbags there and have roughly 50 in a pool enclosure. The accommodation itself is very basic and not clean. Apart from 2 aircon rooms with en suite bathrooms, all the other rooms are cubicles in the main building with a bed, fan and mosquito net only. Bathrooms are shared. There are 4 toilet/ shower rooms and 2 shower rooms. This is not sufficient when big groups are staying in the dorm rooms. A group of 20 high school students and staff stayed one night. My room was dusty and had rubbish around the bed left by previous occupants. It wasn't cleaned or the linen, towels changed during my stay. The communal bathrooms were not cleaned either. Cleanliness is something the resort could easily improve. The food too needs to be improved. I found it bland. More a la carte options are also needed. I still enjoyed by stay despite the issues I had with the accommodation.

Great Homestay ”
We loved the boat trip to the floating market which is organized by the owner. Also the food was good and the family was very friendly. Make sure to ask in advance who will pick you up from the ferry. We first didn't believe the two guys who are working there that they will take us there.

Nice”
Nice place to explore the countryside. Free bikes but not in very good conditions. Prices for motorbike rent: the highest we found in Vietnam. It is not possible to get coffee in the afternoon. Breakfast was very simple. The place was clean and the staff was very helpful. More of a guest house than a home stay.

OK”
Our stay was ok. A mistake on the website lead us to ask for the wrong place. The owner was very helpful although we had to pay double price for the journey. Even if the mistake is the webmaster's we would have appreciated a gesture. Place is nice but not clean. The owners are very kind and perform quickly.

Great atmosphere”
This is a great place to experience life in the Mekong Delta. The owner is very helpful and the tours of the delta offered at his place are fantastics! Free bikes are available to explore the area. It would be nice to have a better selection of Vietnamese food a bit more flavorful.

Acceptable”
There‘s NO point to stay at An Binh, there‘s nothing to see and to do. Just a waste of time and money!

Great place to relax and sightsee the country side”
Very good place to relax or cycle around, surrounded by fruit orchards. Free bicycles and breakfast. Dinner was onsite. Mr Phuong, a nice gentleman, provide free transport to and from the the An Bihn ferry. Mrs Phuong the consummate hostess provide the delicious homecooked dinners with a hugh smile. The staff is ever ready to serve you. Food stalls/shops in the surrounding area (need to cycle to). When I visit Vinh Long next time I will certainly stay here again.

Parfait !”

ON RECOMMANDE
