    Centrally Located Hostel”

Piece Hostel Sanjo is an affordably priced hostel located in the central part of Kyoto with good connections to Osaka via the Hankyu rail network and walkable to major sights within Kyoto like Gion, Nishiki Market and even Heian Jingu and Kiyomizudera. Most buses pass through Shijo-Kawaramachi, Sanjo-Kawaramachi and Shijo-Karasuma, all of which are just a short walk away from the hostel. Thus, the hostel is a really good base to explore Kyoto. Plenty of food options around the area as well. The hostel however is less convenient if you plan to explore cities in the region as with hostels in this part of Kyoto where the vicinity around Kyoto Station is better suited to make multiple trips to Okayama, Himeji, Kobe, Hikone and Kanazawa on JR network. That aside, had comfortable stay here and a really good base for exploring Kyoto and some of the surrounding towns like Uji, Kurama, Ohara, Arashiyama which are connected to the non-JR rail and bus networks.

Central Town Location and Very Comfortable”

Located near Sanjo-dori and Teramachi-dori, the Piece Hostel Sanjo is a very convenient base to explore Kyoto's main sights via the rich bus network or on foot. For a hostel, it is very comfortable and comparable to a good 2-3 star hotel. Breakfast is complimentary, which is a bonus and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The location is not as good as the Piece Hostel Kyoto if you are planning to use the JR lines frequently and to get to the hostel, it is recommended to take the bus if you are coming from Kyoto Station. If you are coming via Itami Airport or with Hankyu lines, you can alight at Kawaramachi or Shijo Karasuma stations and walk there. Because of its central location, there are plenty of food options!

Best hostel in Kyoto - highly recommended”

I've booked Piece Hostel Sanjo because of the good reviews and it was beyond my expectations. The location is perfect, walking distance from KarasumaOike subway station (which is like 3 stations away from Kyoto Station). Walking distance to Nishiki Market, Kawaramachi and Pontocho. I was staying for a week in a 10-bed female dorm, the room was spacious, bed comfortable and big, thick mattress, free towels everyday and there was big lockers in room. The toilets and showers are spotless as they were cleaned regularly, I never have to wait for shower. There was a washing machine for laundry but I din't use it. The breakfast was buffet with selections of dripped coffee, rice with Japanese Curry / Tea Soup / Miso soup (varies everyday), pastries, bread, boiled eggs and mashed potatoes. The kitchen ad lounge area is big, the veranda is lovely. The staff spoke excellent English and are very helpful, always with a smile on their faces. I'll definitely stay here again next time.

Best hostel in Kyoto - highly recommended”

Piece hostel Sanjo is amazing, walking distance from Karasuma Oike subway station (exit 5), which are only 3 stations from Kyoto Station. I was staying for one week in a 10-bed female dorm, the bed was spacious and the mattress is decent, free locker in the room, free towel everyday. The complimentary breakfast is like a buffet with a selections of rice (Japanese Curry / Tea Soup / Miso soup), pastries, boiled egg, bread and mashed potato. Toilets and showers are spotless, never have to wait. There is washing machine too for laundry. Staff are very helpful and speak excellent English. This is like hotel standard, definitely staying here next time I'm in Kyoto. Walking distance to Nishiki Market, Kawaramachi and Pontocho too.

Excellent experience staying in Piece Hostel Sanjo. The location of the hostel is super convenient. Though it's not near the subway station, but it's very close to some main bus stops where you can find your way to most of the sightseeing points. Besides, it's just a few minutes' walk from the shopping street, where you can find great food and local shops there. The hostel itself is super nice and tidy. It provides you with most of the things you need. The breakfast provided is just amazing. I enjoyed the potato salad and the curry so much. Just love it! Besides, the bathing area is clean and it provides you with body wash, shampoo and conditioner. You can also wash and dry your clothes in the hostel with a great price. I love planning my itineraries in the common area. The atmosphere is great. The staff there is super friendly and helpful. They helped me a lot. They gave me excellent suggestions for some good food which was amazing. Their help made my stay in Kyoto problem-free. Thank you so much! Highly recommend this hostel and would love to stay here again!

    SUPER AWESOME! ”

The cleanliness, the privacy in the room but yet easy to meet fellow travelers in the kitchen. The bathroom is spacious and warm during winter. Oh not forgetting the awesome breakfast!!!

Piece Hostel Sanjo is easily the best hostel I have ever stayed in. I am a solo female traveler and I love the privacy of the 10 bed dorm room (you get your own capsule like bed), and if you want to mingle, just head on down to the kitchen to hang out with fellow travelers. It's also perfectly fine to just sit there by yourself to enjoy a cup of (free) tea/coffee, loads of others are solo travelers too. The bathroom is huge and spacious to have a dry area for changing, shampoo and shower gel all provided. The breakfast is super awesome too! I'm a rice person, so I love their Jap flavored rice and miso soup! I will definitely stay in Piece Hostel again should I go back to Kyoto. Oh, do take note that you have to take a subway 3 stops away from Kyoto station, but totally not a problem for me. It's near to Teramachi shopping arcade and Nishiki market. This place rocks! :)

    5 star Hostel ”

Piece Hostel Sanjo was a great hostel, we stayed in a private room with bathroom for 4 nights during a recent stay in Kyoto. The location of the hostel is very convenient to most sights and only a short walk to Sanjo Station or Karasuma Oike Station roughly 10 mins. The facilities at the hostel were good and they served a light breakfast each morning. Staff were equally amazing, had excellent English and were very helpful. I would highly recommend this hostel to others and don't get fooled by the name its more like a boutique hotel and modern B&B.

    Exceptional”

Managed to grab a night (dorm bed) on this 'hot selling' Hostel. You will have to book way in advance (months) in order to book on this hostel. Arrived the hostel, well design & am amaze how the Japanese maximize the space of the building. Hostel is near to Sanjo shopping district. Located at one of the quiet alley, no worries if you walk back alone to hostel at night as Japan is considered as one of the safest country on the planet. There is bar located at the basement level, cold beer is served with discounted price for tenant. Bunk bed is comfortable and travelers get to share the toilets and bathrooms at basement level. The facilities offered is tip top (imagine a Dysonhair dryer for travelers!) Simple breakfast is served in the morning but somehow delicious, enough to fill up your stomach before a day off to Kyoto City. I have no complain on this hostel. Will be back for sure during my return visit to Kyoto. Keep up the good job 'PIECE'

    Great staff and breakfast ”

Hostel with staff coming from Taiwan, Korea etc... There will be no problem if you only speak Chinese, Korean or English. Cheap hostel with high-cp. The breakfast is great, and everyone should have a try! Towels and slippers and even pillows are included. There are even a couple choices for the pillow. The bed is in large size with a long wooden table on the edge where you may put all your stuff on it instead of on the bed. It takes about 10 minutes to reach the nearest station. To sum up, though there are lots of great hostels in Kyoto, Piece Hostel Sanjo will definitely be somewhere I will stay next time, due to its staff's hospitality and kindness towards every backpacker. I would strongly recommend that you MUST stay here at least once if you visit Kyoto!

    THE BEST CAPSULE HOTEL”

The best capsule hotel during my stay in Japan. Went to Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. This is the best among them or maybe I did not choose the right Capsule except for this. Staffs are fluent in English language, helpful, friendly all the good stuff. The facilities are always clean, the capsule is spacious. The most favorite thing I love about this Hostel is the Breakfast meal! Love their rice, varieties too. I even take away during my last day, of course, I asked for the permission first. There are a lot more things to say about this place but I will just stop here. This is the place I wished I stay every single day, next time I visit Kyoto I will surely stay here again. Thank you Piece Hostel Sanjo for the great hospitality.

    Will stay again ”

I have stayed at both Piece Hostel locations, they’re always fantastic. Sanjo is a great location 10 min walk from the subway, even closer to buses. Nishiki market is less than 10 min walk. The Hostel is clean, staff are kind and helpful, the rooftop patio is lovely. I’ve stayed in a 4 person room and a solo room, both were clean and had a great use of a small space. The beds were comfy too! Breakfast is a mix of western (toast, croissants, coffee) and Japanese (soups, boiled eggs, rice, tea). No complaints. I’ll stay again next time I’m in Kyoto.

BEST STAY I EVER HAD ”

Totally worth every single cent I paid !! Best stay I had during my whole Japan trip. Helpful staffs and the room was big enough for you to open your luggage without blocking your way. Comfortable, clean and wide enough. Even the shared bathroom was so clean and they always keep it dry ! The open kitchen is also a bomb ! Well equipped, great place to cook your own meal & a wide space for you to enjoy your meal and chill. The idea of Takoyaki Party was also amazing ! I enjoyed the moment making takoyaki and making friend with travelers came from different countries. Did I forget to mention their breakfast ? Their breakfast was SIMPLE YET SO SATISFYING!! Even if there was only little changes on the breakfast option, yet it’s still so hearty that I don’t mind having them everyday. Various breads, potato salad, hard boiled egg, simple curry rice, enough to feed my greedy stomach. The conclusion is that PIECE HOSTEL SANJO IS AMAZING !!THUMBSSSSSS

This is the best hostel in japan”

Both Piece Hostel establishments are great. Super value for money and great amenities, breakfast is great as well. I’ve stayed at both Sanjo and Kyoto and would recommend Kyoto branch if you need to travel on the JR early next morning. If not, Sanjo is great because it is so close to Nikishi/Gion/Karasuma. Perfect for food hunting and shopping!! Highly recommended.

Piece Hostel Sanjo is the best Hostel”

Piece Hostel Sanjo is Awesome. Surrounding this hostel is a lot of shop, convenient store and train station about 10 mins to walk. Their bed is really comfort with the curtain for privacy, good space in room for luggage including personal lockers with dial code and you may choose three kinds of pillow. The bathroom in B1 floor and has really nice shower. Cleanliness level is perfect. They provide free breakfast here, variant of bread and Japanese breakfast. free flow tea with variant of Green tea, English tea. This hostel, I claimed as the best hostel that I ever stayed. Definitely will come again.

Nothing is going to compare to this hostel from now on..”

We had the best stay at Piece Hostel Sanjo. Everyone was incredibly respectful of each other, which meant a lot of peaceful nights sleep. If you want to get a good nights rest and not be disturbed in the night, this is the place for you. Not really a place I'd say you would come to stay to make any travel buddies as people mostly kept to themselves here. The beds and pillows are probably more comfortable than my own bed! There are plenty of showers (albeit, in the basement, but that wasn't a problem) so there was never a queue. The breakfast was also better than some hotel breakfasts I've had in the past. The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful.. I wouldn't hesitate staying here again.

    Comfortable, Stylish and Good Location”

    Comfortable, Stylish and Good Location

Location is excellent, bed is extremely comfortable. i truly enjoyed my stay in Sanjo Piece Hostel. I would gladly recommend this to anyone who is travelling to Kyoto. The neighbourhood is stylish and anything you need is within walking distance. Unlike the other branch, they do not do bicycle rental which is a shame. But there is a bicycle rental shop just round the corner. Breakfast was delightful and I have no qualms about this hostel.

Outstanding example of a first class hostel”

I had a great stay at the original Piece Hostel Kyoto near Kyoto station 4 years ago so it was a no-brainer to try this new addition. Yes, oh yes it sure did live up to Piece’s fine reputation. The dining and well equiped kitchen area is stunning featuring an expansive floor to ceiling view of minimalist modern outdoor deck and garden, a homage to historic Japanese style green spaces. Here in this beauty lies the only negative I have with the hostel - it’s a designated smoking area. So the majority of non-smoking guests can only relax a few moments before someone comes along and lights up polluting this serene space. Despite this I still enjoyed my stay and will come back to Piece Hostel again. Hopefully they expand to Tokyo one day.

    Nice hostel in Kyoto”

Design is modern, staff are professional, open kitchen is awesome

My stay at Piece Sanjo was so great. Got doubts about the reservation but was immediately solved by staff. Love the open kitchen which allowed us to cook fresh seafood bought from the market near by. A nice open area to chat with other travellers. Staff were helpful and professional who provided useful info about Kyoto and explain clearly about the hostel. Everyone followed the rules such as wash and dry used cutlery. A little bit walk from subway but definitely worth it.

The Best Hostel I Have Stayed In So Far”

I stayed in 4 hostels in my 12 days holiday in Japan and Piece Hostel Sanjo is the best one I have stayed in. The staff is knowledgable, speaks good English and is very helpful; the location is fantastic; the hostel is clean and very tastefully modern; the bed is comfortable and spacious(they even let you choose different pillows to suit your need); the bathrooms are clean and modern etc. No wonder it's so hard to book this hostel.

    Nice, clean and friendly staff”

Highly recommend to all as near walking distance to shopping street, subway station and Keihan/Hankyu station not so far. All staff are friendly with always keep the smiling face on their face. Enjoy the breakfast they provide with daily limited special dish. Open kitchen facilities shared to all and I almost utilize it every night. Thanks to all staff in Piece Hostel Sanjo and hope will stay again when next revisit.
