Gem of a Hotel at Budget Price”

Stayed at Pimanninn for first time, and was more than satisfied w/ quality of room, especially for having been booked at such budget price. Location is not the best in Chiang Rai, but one may walk to several areas of interest w/in 20 minutes. Staff is very friendly, although severely lacking in English communication skills. Swimming pool is rather large, and Fitness Center is replete w/ high-qualify fitness equipment. If visiting Chiang Rai in future, will definitely consider booking at Pimanninn again.

My Secret Hotel in All of South East Asia.”

Nice room, Good Gym, Lovely Pool.

Truly, this is my secret hideaway, as it seems to have everything I need. It is reasonably priced, and located in a very convenient area. It is smack bang right alongside the old AirForce Base (not used anymore) and is a popular running track for early morning joggers. Breakfast is very very Thai, and not attractive to many foreigners, however there is nothing stopping you taking your own breakfast cereals etc. The Hotel caters for many bus travelling groups, however they stay in the multi-person units, whereas more upmarket units are available which are quite attractive. The gym,spa and swimming pool are free to use by the Hotel guests. The township of Chiang Rai has many attractions, and cultural identities. Elephant Camps can also be found within 20 kms from the town outskirts. The night markets are big and enjoyable, and the local park is beautifully kept, with a huge arrange of flowers...the tulips are magnificent. The new Shopping Mall in Chiang Rai is brilliant, and especially caters for 'Farang' diners. Pimanninn value for money? For the first time ever, and I have submitted heaps of reviews for Agoda......5 Stars.....my favourite. Could quite easily live fulltime at this Hotel, as the AirAsia service to Bangkok and beyond is so convenient. I found this Hotel via Agoda, which didn't seem to contain many positive reviews about this Hotel, but I am ever so glad that I acquainted myself with this location, and will return in due course. Chiang Rai is old, but has a lot of lovely character, and is tucked away from all the hype and noise of other touristy places.

Great value hotel”

We like our stay at the Pimanninn. Located right near the friday night market held on the old airstrip and about 10 min walk from the centre of chiang rai-the Pimanninn offered a large comfortable room and pleasant surroundings. Probably, the only low point is the included breakfast-give it a miss.

Cheap and Pleasant”

good pool, good exercise room, free breakfast

It was exactly as the reviewers stated. Clean hotel. Friendly staff. Great pool and workout facilities. The pool is used as a general pool/fitness center for Chiang Rai folks so it was often busy, but everyone was friendly and made way for you to swim laps. We rented a motorbike and that was perfect. Could use taxis but if you are planning on walking everywhere it is a little far out of the main areas.

Nice quiet hotel in slightly rural area ”

Breakfast, quiet, good size rooms

Not a bad place for the money, actually quite good when you consider it comes with breakfast where you you help yourself. The room is clean and large but not that modern, but the bed was great and the bathroom is the best ive ever seen in a hotel, extra large qreat layout looks like a new bathroom of a large apartment here in Melbourne Australia, no real different. This place is tucked away in all these back streets that have Karioke at night and the hotel itself is spread out on maybe 5 acres its not built up like a tall building kind of like a school with seperate buildings around campus, with a family or few people its quite nice, you would feel safe here and you have a restuarant, only a few people speak good english though, sometimes its easier just to walk down and point what you want rather then talk on phone. Not that many Taxi's in Chiang Rai compared to Bangkok usually have to phone one here rather then wait on road, Airport

Big room, Cleanliness & Helpful staff

Nice hotel in the resort style, not really at the centre of Chiang Rai city but could walk around 1 km. and it's good that hotel has bicycle rental. Nice staff performance, helpful and sincere. Breakfast has limited choices but it's not that much problem. Wifi is unstable sometimes. There has fitness & swimming pool but hotel guest need to get an access coupon from reception first. Room is functional and big enough also very clean. Air conditioner is a bit noisy from compressor. Overall of my stay is impress if you compare with the price that you get from Agoda :)

Great Value for Money Place with Friendly Staff”

Nice and Large Room, Great Fitness, Walking Distance to City Centre

At check-in, I was surprisingly upgraded to a large, comfortable and quiet VIP-room, which was incredible value considering the little money I paid. Apart from the great fitness gym at the hotel, I very much enjoyed my early morning jogging on the runway of the old airport (apparently no longer in use) just around the corner of the hotel amidst a few other joggers in a scenic setting. All in all, the hotel provides everything you need and is at 20-30 mins. waling distance to the city centre. I will certainly stay here again on my next trip to Chiang Rai.

Girlfriend's Family Visit ”

Location, Fitness and Pool, Good Value

The PH is a great place in Chiang Rai, centrally located, by the Old Airport Strip. There is a nice Pool, and Fitness Center. This is a good value 3 star resort, but is primarily a Thai Resort, which is just fine for me... I can speak Thai, but would suggest, patience if you are in International Traveller, and have little or no experience in Thailand, which I feel fortunate to call my second home... Nice and quiet, but if you don't like a 10 minute walk you will need to take a Tuk Tuk or Meter taxi... Cheers

the hotel restaurant food was inexpensive and good. the location is good if you ride a bicycle. housekeeping was good.

overall stressfree except the breakfast was undoubtedly the worst I have ever had in a hotel in Thailand. rather astounding considering the other meals coming out of the same restaurant were inexpensive and excellent. a lot of patience is required at times when dealing with the front counter staff until they get to know you a bit. the noisy hordes arriving and departing on tour buses could be a little exasperating, just stay out of restaurant at 7am and 6pm. taxis organised by the hotel will try and rip you off, chiang mai is worst though.

Good base camp for a day-by-day road trip vacation”

Partially english speaking, very friendly staff. Spacious, clean rooms with aircon.

Very good value for money. Traditional thai food for breakfast with varying dishes. The facilities are neat, with a regular pool and sauna and even a gym with good equipment (although it is possible that the gym is extra, didn't use it). We prolonged our stay since there was nothing comparable in the greater vicinity. 10/10 would book again. Thank you for your hospitality. PS: Next to the hotel is an abandoned air strip (as mentioned in other reviews). Often the locals open some food stalls there in the evening and sell fireworks and sky lanterns. The atmosphere is quite unique and the food is good. It can get a little loud so ask for a room in the far back if you're sensible.

A means to an end”

We booked Pimanninn to have a quiet and relaxing few days before our flight and from the pictures we thought we'd made the right choice. When we turned up, we were pleasantly surprised that the hotel was true to the pictures. The room was spacious and clean and the aircon was powerful. I'm afraid that after the above, the only other positive was the gym and pool which are both good sizes and relatively quiet. I don't think you can call what is served for breakfast as good food as it's just pure plain Thai food with a toaster and water/juice and hot drinks on offer. You may get an extra wasp with your orange juice as it's not kept tidy either. The maids, despite keeping the rooms very clean, love to start at the crack of dawn and they don't keep it a secret that's what they are doing! Don't expect to sleep past 9am if you're wanting a lie in.... On a couple of occasions we booked a taxi through the reception desk - which is overrun with teenagers - 5 or 6 at any one time - sitting, playing on their phones and not appearing interested in the guests stood in front of them asking for assistance. When they booked us a taxi, they didn't tell us about the charge you pay extra to the taxi driver for them calling him to collect you. Having been in Thailand for a while now this is the first time we have come across this before and it feels like a way to get more money from you. Watch out when ordering a taxi too because if you dont ask for it on the meter then the driver will charge you treble the amount of the journey. Something about all Western folk being rich and stupid..... Anyways, if you want somewhere thats out of the way, with a nice pool and gym and a clean room then book Pimanninn. Just be prepared to be woken up early every day, eat from a limited choice menu if you decide not to go out for breakfast, deal with immaturity in numbers on the reception desk and dodgy taxi drivers who love to scam the 'white man'!!

You wouldn't be able to find a reasonably-priced hotel with all amenities you imagine a five-star hotel will give you. We didn't really expect a hotel for this price will give you breakfast, free gym access, and swimming pool, aside from fast internet access. Hotel area is great with comfortable car parking and rooms in each separate house. Families with kids should enjoy the place.

Did the job for 1 night ”

We needed somewhere to stay for 1 night between Chiang Mai and catching the slow boat to Luang Prabang so this did the job but we found insects everywhere in our room. I slept fully clothed as somehow mosquitos were getting in but we couldn't figure out from where. It sounded as if there was no ceiling between our room and the one above, we were woken up about 4 times throughout the night by banging and loud things falling on the floor. We had to call front desk around 2am to complain (not usually something we ever do). The beds were hard as usual for SEA. We used both The gym and pool and would definitely say they were great! The staff at front desk were okay but did not speak any English so it was quite difficult to communicate. We walked over to a burger joint (not very close) but the burgers were amazing (Heaven Burger). Tht had to be the best part of Chiang Rai. We did the white and blue temples on our way in to Chiang Rai so I'm not sure how far they are from this hotel.

Affordable and family-friendly hotel”

Good price, big room, and big parking lot

My stay was quite good. My room was a so-called VIP one with a double bed and a single bed, which was good for a small family like mine. The room was acceptably clean and big enough for a small kid to run around. However, the hotel is quite far from the city centre and there is no convenient stores around when u need something. And the breakfast was quite poor. It should have been called a lunch buffet considering the food they provided. Some were too spicy too. Anyway, the price was excellent and probably the best thing about this hotel.

More like a chalet than hotel/resort”

Amenities, price, space

We stayed here for a total of 3 nights. It is a little out of the way from the city center, but was ok as we had a car. This place reminds me of a chalet. It must have seen its glory days, being somewhat old and tired. The reason we chose this place was because of its spacious gym facility. It also offers free buffet breakfast consisting of toast, ham, porridge, rice, a few thai dishes, etc. We had a VIP room. It was very spacious and had a large bathroom. Room was very well kept as well. I had 2 issues with this place. Firstly, the bed was way too hard for my liking. It's just a personal preference, but I had to wake up with stiff backaches every morning. Secondly the shower drainage clogged easily -- only had about 8 - 10 minutes of shower time before it fills up the entire area bath water. Informed the staff but nothing was done. There was no follow up. The staff seemed to laid back. Some were polite, but mostly seem to embrace a 'can't be bothered' attitude. Maybe it is their workplace culture or something. One good thing was its TV channels, at least I could watch HBO and FOX movies and night on the 32" LCD tv (only available in the VIP rooms I think).
