The location was amazing with free kayaks to go exploring!”
The staff were very helpful and wanted to make our stay great but they were a bit pushy on drinks at times - we didn’t mind though. The food was mediocre with little variety to choose from but the atmosphere was relaxing yet fun. The food and drinks are expensive but this is expected given the remote location. All in all we loved our stay here! It was very quiet with nothing to do but relax - which is exactly what we wanted. We truly felt like we were on our own little private island.
Misleading, trap, nightmare for a relaxed time in the bay!”
Cat Ba Sandy Beach Resort is a trap! They make money with the resort guests AND by accepting groups of outside guests. Everyday, as from 8.30am, groups of outside tourists are dropped by boat at the pier to come and enjoy the facilities of the resort. We asked a staff member (calling himself "James Bond" and seems pretty drunk all day long), who confirmed that everyday (supposedly around noon), big boats are dropping big groups of people from outside (non resident of the resort) to spend lunch and full afternoon at the resort and enjoy its facilities. They are on the beach, using kayaks, playing football, even changing in the restaurant and unbearably noisy right in front of our bungalow. Don't get me wrong, the resort has an incredible spot and nice facilities, but when you pay over 580 euros for 5 nights and get hundreds of people in the resort (which has maximum 12 bungalows, so should have been the most pleasant and relaxing place of the bay), you just go nuts! DO NOT GO THERE
Trash paradise and severe contamination ”
Ha Long Bay is already dead, nobody will go there in 10 years (being positive). The place is full of trash, the water is with severe contamination and I recommend any couple or anyone hoping to go there to get in the water not to go this place. It have ruined us your vacation along with the fact that the staff from this place has any qualification or training to serve people who go there. Terrible experience that I wouldn’t want to repeat never in my life. This area and place is a really nightmare.
Good place that needs service improvement”
A quiet place, good for those who want to escape from noise. Staff need to be trained on hospitality as they did not consult guests and tried to make money.
Transportation to get here is the tiredest time in my trip. But it worth. The view are amazing. Feel like very relaxing, quiet, peaceful, photography with starfish:) and many other activity, like you can go from this island to other. Should stay here at least 2 night and up:) And don’t forget to check out how to get here?( like by taxi, ferry, boat, ticket, time...)
Quaint place away from it all w/nothing but nature & tranquility surrounding you (unless you're unlucky enough to stay at the same time as a pack of backpacker bro's - which I'm told is a significant rarity....guess I was just lucky!!). Staff is delightful, pleasant, & eager to make your stay memorable. Accomodations were simple but exactly what you need....it's not a 5-Star resort & it's not advertised as such but I'll gladly take this over most of those any day. Overall, worth the journey to get there & definitely a unique experience in an idyllic location!
Views to die for”
We visited the resort towards the end of November, would highly only recommend only 1 night and would keep a tab on what drinks/food you have as we had a few added on but the views were definitely worth the visit.
Great location. But food options were minimal breakfast was a choice between watermelon or egg. The bed sheets were unclean, and the shower in the bathroom is inadequate. Due to the remoteness of the island it leaves them free to charge more for beer, coke, the buffet dinner ect. Also keep a note of the items you have drank / ate as they make you pay at the end and tried adding items to our receipt which we had not consumed. Fantastic location, has high potential but the stay disappointed.
Sad demise. ”
I have independently traveled to Vietnam 12 times. I have also been to this island 6 times in 5 years. It WAS paradise on Earth but it has lost its edge massively. Watch your bill, they have a policy of food comes on a separate bill and was always wrong on the last 2 visits. Drinks also come as a separate bill and had to be challenged as it had drinks on it I’d not had. They’d put a drink on your bill from some stranger you’d randomly sat with and where chatting to when ordering. Now this might seem like nitpicking but the drinks are not cheap. The breakfast is pointless . Eggs and stale bread and pancakes / rice. No option of Pho. They then ask if you’d like an orange juice, with breakfast they don’t tell you, youhave to pay for it. Paying for orange juice with breakfast at £50 a night ? Only 1 thing worse than no WI-FI, slow WI-FI. It’s painful. The staff are very friendly the location is perfect but the frustrations mean I’ll not be back. Sad really for a simple fix.
Extra charges for boat transportation to the property, extra charges for using Visa credit card, very poor food, and our bungalow deck was overrun by new, very noisy guests arriving in the morning -the beautiful natural setting was spoiled by disappointing service and property management.
DO NOT GO THERE! ”
You are totally depending of people whom do not speak english, out on your money (charging €4 for 1 juice), taking you for a fool. You are a fool indeed to ever book and pay this price for this horrible place. It is in dangerously shape of mantainance; my leg went straight through the wood of the dock. My back was full of bedbug bites. The food is drifting in grease and the worst i’ve had in Vietnam. Just save yourself and do not let them fool you by the gorgeous pics showing.
I have stayed at this resort many times , it’s fantastic . The pictures don’t do it justice .i am actually returning in a week ! Brilliant place to stay.
From your bed you can see the sea, it's peaceful, and the panorama really astonishing. The resort, is not a resort, but a medium-low quality hotel. The room looked clean but we got bed fleas during our stay. The staff is really uninterested. The food is quite good, but you have to pay for it. They have free kayak, so you can go around in the bay and that's amazing.
This place is nicely located in a small bay. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food was nice and plentiful. Some of the play equipment needs updating but the rooms were nice and clean. The trip there and back through the many islands was amazing too.
You know when you choose a place like this in a remote island. There is not much to do to occupy ”
The place seemed ideal for a get-away for a few days but once we got there , we realize there are not too many things to do. No tv channels connected to tv. Internet was there. My room was right above water like on stilts, floors made with wooden boards, therefore moisture came right up to make sheets damp. Overall, it wad ok but it was good enough just for one day.
I stayed 3 nights and four days in Cat Ba sandy beach resort. It's the perfect place to escape from the noise and pollution of Vietnam cities ' traffic. The location is absolutely amazing and staff is very helpful and nice. I think that it's bit overpriced for what the structure offers. It costed me $65 per night which is very expensive for what usually you pay in Vietnam. The owner of the place should definitely improve the food and the quantity of it. As an example the breakfast was pretty poor and at dinner buffet if the food finishes that's it!! As I said perfect place to find peace and staff very helpful
The location is unbelievable but you are pretty isolated. Great breakfast and dinner buffet. The rooms were very nice. Some parts of the facility were in disrepair like kayaks with leaks and rotten boards on the dock. Staff was friendly but did not go out of their way.
Book with attention of detail”
Book with attention to detail and while the staff are well intended you might give a second thought to staying here. Overall this is a 2 star resort at best. After following the transfer information, a 40k ticket is required to be purchased on right hand side of the port. Call the resort ahead of time to arrange for pickup, a private pickup by boat costs 20$ each way. For private transfers to other islands, the rate is similar around 20$ an hour. Bookings: The resort doesn't seem to operate on any sophisticated computer basis two or more staff are on the phone confirming bookings, I was first shown a room at the far end of the resort where there upper ceiling is open across the top given the construction type which means you can hear everything your next door neighbours say/do. After a wait of 20 minutes to confirm my booking I received still not the room I had booked, I was given a room in the newer builds of the resort where the accommodations are bungalow style. This was still not the room I had reserved which would have included air conditioning presumably at the entrance of the marina. I was offered as several other guests I witnessed a 15$ discount per night. The new section lacks at the time of writing proper guard rails on the boardwalk so it's possible to fall over either sides 10m this is a major safety issue, rebars are also pretuding, assuming this is an easy fix. Furthermore the concrete boardwalk is eleven in some sections making it a further hazard. The rooms I was assigned as are the older builds, only have fans, which in summer wouldn't be pleasant. The bathroom door did not lock or close and there was no door handle. The rooms do not have fridges, which begs the question why leave a minibar on top of night table with beer, water and pop. The walls are not insulated so you can hear and smell! what your neighbours are doing even in their washroom. Meals, breakfast is included starts at 7 to 8, get there at 7 otherwise what ever
A paradise for relaxing”
The resort is located in a beautiful private beach. Bungalows are beautiful and nice, clean and from here you can view the beautiful beach with small islets. I booked seafront bungalow - in front of the beach. We felt like we'd found our paradise when we arrived here after finishing a hustle and bustle week in Hanoi. The food is so good, not too expensive compare from restaurants in down town. There are many services here such as: kayak, welcome cocktail, Cannon Fort tickets and shutter service from center. Would like to recommend as a great destination for resting and relaxing.
Paradise on earth”
This place exceeded our expectations before the trip.It is the highlight of our trip in Viet Nam.We come from a big city ,modern but very hustling and bustling as all big cities all over the world. We takes holidays every year and we always want to look for beautiful destinations to stay with the nature for relaxation . We found a Bungalow on Nam Cat island , an isolated island among hundreds of islands locating in the middle of Lan ha Bay. In order to get there ,you need to take a small local boat from Cat Ba town for 30 minutes. On the way to get there ,you will pass by hundreds of small islands with sandy beaches , it is amazing scenery .Upon arrival , we were so impressed by the surroundings of this island. It looks even much more beautiful than the pictures on the website .There are no local people living here , no buses, no cars, because it is a small island .That is what we looked for because we wanted to get out from the busy life for few days to stay in a peaceful and quite place .You cant find any other places in Viet Nam more beautiful and tranquil here . Only few staff can speak English here , so do not expect everyone can communicate with you because this is a remote island, high educated people will never work here with low payment and far from family. You should also not expect luxury room like hotels or resorts in cities, because this is a Bungalow ,they set up with the basic style .We still enjoy our room so much because we paid money for stunning view from the room, not for hotel rooms in cities. We highly recommend this bungalow as the most beautiful place in Viet nam. We will come back as soon as possible.
