Simply put, this is the place to stay in Varanasi. For the price point we were very satisfied with what we got. Access to the ghats is a breeze, and in the July heat when walking around was unbearable, the view from our comfortable balcony was the perfect space to take in the scene along the river front. We also went on the Sarnath Tour and Morning River Boat trip organized by the hotel, both of which we found to be great value. The only negative being that we thought the restaurant was lackluster and one of its staff seemed rather surly. Nonetheless, I highly recommend Ganpati Guest House.
Amazing Varanasi ”
Pros Pay the extra for a river view room the view and sights of the ganges are worth the extra $$ . Its also a min walk to cremation ghats Large room with extra's joss sticks, Pantene shampoo, large bed etc Lovely staff in restuarant and cleaning crew Great food Lovely location and quiet oasis away from the madness . Massive thank you to reception staff . My bag was held in Delhi for 2 days and with out them ringing and communicating would have struggled . Cons LEAVING IN GANPATI
Feels like home! ”
The Ganpati Guesthouse continues to be my happy place in Varanasi. From the location to the people you meet to the quaint rooms with western bathrooms to the great service, you just can’t go wrong staying here. Highly recommend!
Excellent location for Ghats”
This guest house is perfectly located beside the holy river as well as in the mid way of all the Ghats, you can easily to choose walk upstream or downstream whichever you like. The staff and the restaurant were nice and fine. However the electricity supply for the air con will be altered sometimes in the midnight, it’s not a big deal anyways, the fans still worked perfectly.
Great view, very cheap but noisy”
Varanasi in itself is an assault on the senses, so this place was a great little refuge from the magical madness. Incredible view of the ghats but make sure that your room is facing away from the streets or you will be kept up by warring children and warring dogs.
Standard rooms values for money”
I stayed here for two nights. I really love this room with balcony and Ganges river view. The staffs are friendly. Rooftop restaurant is ok though they only serve vegetatian foods. Pros: it takes several minutes' walk to the Dashashwamedh Ghat. Cons: close the balcony's door even if you just want to take a snap as the monkey will soon enters to your room quietly and reaches for stuffs. Also prepare yourself with the smell of urine as you will walk by a public toilet near the gate to river.
Excellent quirky, beautiful place. The location is fantastic, the rooms are clean and well furnished and the rooftop restaurant serves very good food and drink. The staff are all helpful, we used their service to organise a boat for the evening and morning ceremonies, both great. Would love to stay again in the future.
The location of this guest house is what makes it worth all the money. The holy river Ganga can be seen right from the rest house 's balcony and rooftop restaurant. In fact, one can walk up to the Meer Ghat from the steps of the rest house itself. Rooms are clean and well kept. The staff is ever polite, friendly and helpful. Plus, one can witness the charm of Kashi's streets right after walking out of the rest house. Highly recommended for a memorable experience of Benares.
Great service - central ghat location. ”
The hotel was in a good location and we were met by a staff member and bag carrier from our taxi to walk us through the small streets where taxis can’t go. Great views of the busy ghat from the restaurant and the food was really well priced. We were out in a room not attached to the main hotel which wasn’t our preference but wasn’t too much of a problem except the WiFi didn’t work that far away.
Amazing location, great views, A/C, friendly staff”
My wife & I stayed here for our first trip to India & cannot recommend this guest house enough. The location is excellent, within a 5min. walk to the largest ghat in Varanasi & also one of the cremation ghats. Staff was very kind & helpful, & the rooftop restaurant/bar view was spectacular & a great place to relax/eat at end of day. Try the rice pudding with fruit! Highly recommend doing the walking tour with Ballu- he was so kind & helpful, & really became a friend of ours after 5 days in Varanasi. Ballu lives next door with his family & is an amazing guide for this spectacular city. Also, the morning boat tour is a must!
wonderful place and location , best place to stay in Varanasi without doubt , perfect spot on the Ganges , very very clean , nice rooftop terrace and restaurant , nice food , ver very friendly and helpful staff , i stayed in the annex this time as main building was full , just next door and it was just the same as staying in main building ( where i have stayed before ) in fact i had a beautiful large room .
Great place with fantastic view”
Ganpati is a great place with very nice and helpful staff. It’s a perfectly located oasis in busy and sometimes stressful Varanasi. We had the best rooms with private balcony towards the Ganga river - just the perfect spot for a first cup of coffee in the early morning. The rooms were nicely designed and had big windows towards the river. While watching sunrise a few monkeys joined us peacefully, having moskitos for breakfast that didn‘t survive the nightlife illumination of the building . The rooftop restaurant has fantastic views, too. Highly recommendable is their Kashmiri Pulau: simply yummy! Special thanks to Mr Nipu who gave us a great time there. Would love to come back.
Sunrise over the Ganges ”
What a lovely little place. Based on previous reviews I booked the super deluxe room with private balcony. Lovely room. Great view of the Ganges to watch all the comings and goings andthe sunrise. Hotel put on a holi party for guests and staff which was lovely. I arranged pick up from the airport which was spot on and booked sunrise and sunset trips on the Ganges when I arrived. All perfect. Especially raja the boatman. Only room i have ever stayed in anywhere in the world which had a blue flush in the loo. Great rooftop restaurant with lovely reasonably priced food. Downside if any was bed was huge but a little too hard for my taste. You need to be able to walk up and down a number of steps to get to rooms and restaurant so need to be mobile but that’s the same as most of India and Varanasi. Great place.
Great place, staff were so friendly and helpful, tours were great, lots of food options!”
We had such a great stay at Ganpati. From being picked up at the train station, to the great value tours, excellent food on their rooftop patio, helpful friendly staff, beautiful unique rooms, we couldn’t have hoped for a better place for our visit to Varanasi. It is a great location too, situated right on the Ganges, in the midst of everything. Strongly recommend. We hope to come back.
Go for it!”
Hesitated to book b/c it is a bit more expensive, but the decision was well worth it for location, room, staff, and facilities. Excellent overall. Varanasi can be a tough city even for seasoned travelers. It's worthwhile to have a comfortable base (written by someone who, altho' a foreigner, has been living in India for several years and can roll with it).
They have a looovely driver. Clean room and great rooftop
The best location with views of the river”
We stayed in a room with view of Ganga river and definitely we would stay again here. The property is in very good conditions and decoration is also a plus. Very convenient location to stay close to the most important ghats. Maybe a little pricey compared to other hotels in the same area. It is quite difficult to find the place, the streets in old quarter Varanasi are chaotic.
