Ideal place to stay, Excellent service”
The staff is friendly and helpful, Sophie who help us throughout the time while we stay there provide excellent service and make us feel like home. Location is good, would definitely recommend to stay there again while travelling to Beijing.
very good hotel in a stunning location”
very good hotel in a stunning location directly opposite the forbidden city. friendly and helpfull staff, shopping and conference facilities. good end exclusive dining available, budget restaurants very close by. overall - worth the money !!!
Nice position, heart of Beijing”
Nice position, good services, staff with fluent english, good arrangement when rooms are not sufficient, they upgraded our standard room booking into business class for free! Hotel is just right next to Wong Fu Tseug Street, which is the major shopping area of Beijing, and right above the convenient MTR station.
Great location and traditional feel”
Really enjoyed my stay although I was only there for 1 night so didn't experience everything. Would recommend as great location and still a nice traditional old world hotel. Service was good, not overpowering
I enjoy staying in Beijing Grand Hotel. This is a very beautiful traditional style hotel with modern comforts. Located close to the Forbidden City and other places of interest. Had a great view on the Forbidden City from my room. Swimming pool is beautiful but a bit too shallow on one end. Fantastic court yard. Great hotel for business and pleasure.
Stay at Grand Hotel”
Pros: Excellent location. Walking distance to Tiananmen, Forbidden City, Wangfujing. By car easy reach to Ministries, Govt Business. Used mainly by Ministries n Govt to put up official guests. Cons: slightly old fashioned setting. Good for subdued atmosphere, if you are into that. Service is geared to officials who have their staff to ask for things. The first hotel I stayed in where there are no brochures detailing their services, restaurants! There is room service but no menu. But if you have 2/3 people looking after you, the above shortcomings are not a problem. The bar/coffee area is very boring. Unless you have "official" business to conduct there, there are more business/tourist friendly and modern hotels close by.
Fabulous hotel in very central location”
This is a really lovely hotel! It's near many of the attractions in central Beijing. The cleanliness issue isn't really about cleanliness but rather the smell of smoke- the consequence of the terrible problem the Chinese have with smoking- my room was fairly free of the smell but there is whiff in corridors Staff attentive and helpful, couldn't be better!
Hotel needs a a facelift”
The stay was okay, but it was during one of the red smog alerts, so not a very pleasant one. The hotel has a great legacy, but it is a bit tired and could use a refurbishment. The staff were very helpful and the location is convenient, but with so many choices in Beijing, I'm not sure I'd stay here again.
typical local chinese management”
typical local chinese management - not flexable and non customer -orientated. I arrived the hotel at 6:30am from a long-haul flight. The reception said they have no made-up rooms available and asked us to come back at 11am.... crazy. After 15 mins long argument, the manager from the office came out and found me a room.... During the stay, there was a wedding dinner party in the open area. loud speaker was used for the wedding ceremony. It was loud and noisy and much disturbbing for hotel guests..... This was rediculus to happen in a 5 star hotel.....
Five star hotel for three star price”
I was upgraded when I arrived to a king size bed facing the Forbidden City. It's pretty hard to complain about that. The staff spoke English very well. My room was clean and well decorated. It is within 5 minutes walking distance of the Forbidden City and Tian 'amen square. I wasn't actually expecting much given the price. But, I will definitely be staying at the Grand Hotel on my next trip to Beijing. Make sure you get the name of the hotel in Chinese. The Chinese name is different so taxis might not know where you mean. The only thing I would change about the hotel is the carpets in the halls. They need replacing. But, this was not a serious issue. I would give the place 9.5/10 on a value for money scale.
We enjoyed the hotel, room and location very much. We did not use the breakfast as it is way overpriced. We did have one dinner there and many items on menu were very expensive, but with choices we had a nice small meal for not much with very attentive service. The same high prices but good service is true of the bar. The room was however always too warm, due to change of season (no AC) and locked window for APEC (and keeping out pollution probably?). The plugs in the wall are all a bit loose, I assume aged, so European chargers took some adjusting to make contact. The biggest problem was getting taxis for short distances, they just would not stop or come when called. I assume this has nothing ot do with hotel, but it a Beijing/china problem. Airport taxi was fine however-arrive early and was very nice.
Good but a little run down”
Great staff and great location. However, I booked this because last time in china I stayed next door and heard about the lovely roof top bar with a view over for the forbidden city this hotel is famous for. It has unfortunately now closed down. So there are no bar/relaxing cafe facilities in the hotel - a let down while you are on holidays! The staff were lovely, but overall I found the staff and service at Raffles next door better. And they are in the same price range. Grand hotel was probably at its peak years ago, but now just feels neglected.
Fabulous location for Forbidden City.”
This hotel can't be beat for location if you want to see the Forbidden City and be close to high end shopping, the subway, as well as an old-style "food street." Housekeeping was good but not fastidious. Staff helpful but didn't know anything about tours except the two they sell. We found the hotel restaurants much too expensive to eat in, more geared to expense-account crowd. It is very close to a huge mall with lots of restaurants, and the Marriot is right behind it with a more moderately priced restaurant. We booked through Agoda and got a good price.
Our stay at Grand Hotel was very pleasant.”
My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay at Grand Hotel. The staff were very friendly, service was excellent. Especial, the furniture is very unique, it is the combination of Chinese traditional and Western, it takes you to the Chinese Royal history, yet, you will enjoy very comfortable and luxury Western bed & bathroom. We would recommend this hotel to our friends.
Really nice hotel for the price”
The hotel was really nice. The staff was friendly and they speak English. The hotel was close to public transportation (subway). The room is really big and nice and clean. The bathroom is clean and really nice.
A pleasant & comfy stay :)”
the room is huge and clean !!! maybe the service @ the hotel should improve a bit more since it is a 5 stars hotel as i find their service is just passable nothing amazing. The room of the forbidden city is not really a good view as you could only see the roof top of the forbidden city nothing great about it.
Very good luxury hotel”
The hotel is near Wangfujing street and many places of interest of Beijing. It will be a smart choice for foreign guests who want to sightseeing in Beijing. I booked the hotel for a friend of mine. He told me the staff are very friendly. I guess it will be quite a nice and comfortable experience for his foreign friends as the interior design is quite in ancient chinese style.
I booked the hotel from my friend. The foreigner guests are very important to him thus he booked the hotel as it is designed in nice chinese traditional style, high standard service. The hotel is located near a busy area and in the centre of the city, however it's very quiet at night. I believe it gave his guests a unforgetable experience staying there.
nice hotel, no better lacation than this.”
perfect service, clean room, whenever we need anything and call the service, people respond in time and do the right things we need. Breakfast is not cheap, around $30, but that is normal for 5 star hotel located in center of Beijing. NO hotel is more close to center of Beijing.
Good location but old worn down hotel and rooms”
The location was great, since it was just a short walk to Tianamen Square, Forbidden City, and Wangfujing Street (Beijing's most famous shopping street) However, the hotel and rooms are realy old and worn down. The carpet is clearly old and has stains, and the rooms smell not good. I had read similar reviews in Agoda, but I disregarded them, thinking that the important thing is the location. But with its price, I would go for other hotels nearby in the same location, that may offer better rooms.
