The location was great and the staff were friendly. There is a grocery store right across the street, lots of street vendors, and tuk tuks nearby. The hotel is old, but clean. Breakfast had more options than expected, but the food was not hot. The air conditioner in the room was cool, but the water pressure in the shower was terrible!
Positive: Friendly and helpful staff and the location is quite good. Breakfast was okay. Negative: Didn't like the room at all. Cold light, a wall of another building just in front of my windows, dirty old carpet. The bed sheets were clean though. The worst was that the room was full of mosquitos when I moved in. The planks around the fish pond in the hotel's patio are so rotten that I was afraid to break through. In conclusion, I wouldn't stay there again.
Low expectations yet still disappointed”
We booked this place last minute for 1 night. We booked a budget place since it was only 1 night but we intentionally didn't book the cheapest and went for something moderate hoping for slightly better quality. We were so disappointed. The bathroom was so terrible we had to laugh. The shower head didn't stay mounted to the wall so we had to take turns holding it for each other, but even still the bathroom was soaked by the end because where there used to be a cheap shower curtain liner there now hangs a shred of moldy plastic. Seriously, it was a scrap. I don't know why it was even left hanging. The bathtub, ceiling, floors and toilet were all moldy and stained. I don't know why you bother folding the toilet paper into a pretty little triangle when you have such a filthy toilet. It was tragically funny. The beds were hard as rocks (and we are NOT picky) and the sheets were stained...or just dirty. I hope stained. The carpet was worn down and moldy. There was a pair of flip flops in there and I couldn't tell if it was meant to be a courtesy or if they were just left behind because although they were nicely lined up next to the door, they were worn down and discolored. The hotel itself is a strange old building which could add character, but instead it's just weird. It was a 4 floor walk-up which was okay for us, but not mentioned at the time of booking. There was a multigenerational family that seemed to live there and they were shouting and arguing all night. I'm pretty sure the door locks were just for decoration. We wished we would've just stayed at a $6 guesthouse. Vientiane is lovely, but avoid this place unless you're entertained by dim, dirty buildings and confrontation.
good street location and helpfull staff”
The hotel is in a nice part of town. It seemed safe and short walking distance to other attractions. The hotel is old,(some fresh paint and new carpets would help) but it has some character, carved wood panels a bit colonial, i liked it. Rooms were a good size, comfortable and air conditioned, my room had a bath and neat bathroom. A huge courtyard garden with fish pond, breakfast was OK, I had the egg and bacon. The lady at reception was helpful, she had a good map for me and highlighted some places to visit, always a nice smile when i returned through out the day.
The Hotel is well located (near small shopping, night street restaurant etc). Room are large but need maybe (fro some of them ) to be refresh especially bathroom. However, the hotel is clean and bed are confortable. The Staff is really friendly and helpful. This is a nice place to stay in the central part of Vientiane.
Comfortable and good location”
The room is large and the location is excellent, close to the activities in the main tourist area of Vientiane. Not expensive. However the air con in my room was not working properly. Building and fixtures are old, but clean. The garden area is nice and quiet. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Good hotel in central location”
Nice room overlooking courtyard with fish pond. Room had cable TV, fridge, water, a couple of lamps (great for reading), aircon, big windows overlooking courtyard. Bathroom had a bathtub! Shower hose was a little short though and I'm only 150cms tall. Helpful staff that were happy to point me in the right direction. Free computer with internet in the foyer is an added bonus, although the connection was not always reliable. Breakfast pretty good. I would stay here again.
Very convinient to travel around... A lot of eateries everywhere... Hotel is good too... Will come back here again... Another plus point is the breakfast... Has few selections (ala carte but good proportion)...
Nice place to stay”
It is close enough to the center (walking distance). Breakfast is good. Breakfast area/atmosphere is nice, quite room (if you get the inside room). English speaking and helpfull staff. The rooms are basic but clean.
Great location for exploring downtown area, and hotel somewhat dated but still good value. Staff were helpful.
Good Location and Friendly Staffs but Below Expectation”
Pros: Hotel is located near to many attractions and there are food stalls and convenience store nearby. The staffs are generally friendly however has limited command of English. Cons: t This is a very old hotel with only sleeping and showering facilities to me. The WiFi is usually disrupted, TV has no receptions and mosquitos in the room everyday. no buffet but only bread, fruits and coffee served on days when there is no big number of guests. The room and bathroom is not clean and lights are very dim. Generally it was bearable for me but I would definitely choose another better hotel in future visits.
Overall Ok. Nice garden with a large fish pond around where you can get breakfast. The rooms overlooking the garden on the veranda are spacious, but a bit run down and you can hear everything on the balcony and neighboring rooms. Ok for a couple of nights. Everything within walking distance.
This hotel has seen better days”
In it's heydays, this must have been a truly classy and impressive hotel. Alas, it's not the case anymore. Everything looks worn out and old. Stains on the carpet and all over the walls and the bath. Little flies and mosquitoes everywhere... On the other hand, the staff is very professional, the breakfast was simple but good, the garden very beautiful with a nice pond and lots of fishes. It is also well situated, not far from the night market and some very nice temples.
felt very disappointed and made me decided to checkout from hotel 2 nights before my official checkout date. plugs in the room weren't worked at all, only the plug in bathroom available, not convenient. dust came out from air-conditional, stained on bed-linen, hear the noise from corridor when guests walk-by.
The hotel is in a bit of a time warp but don't let this put you off staying here. The L shaped hotel overlooked a koi carp pool which did have some tables near it. There was a verandah outside our room which ran past all the rooms and each room had their own table and chairs on it and overlooked the carp pool. Room was comfortable enough. Nearby Russian restaurant and bar was good.
The location was good near the city which is central to everything. We arrived early around 10:30am and no one was there in the reception so we have to wait for few minutes even after we rang the bell. The staff has poor command of English and he couldn't find our reservation details. He gave us a room near the reception which was fine after few minutes we realized the room didn't have towels so we ask him to give us one but instead he told us to move to a different room. After 15minutes of waiting he gave found a room for us with towels but without television. We settled in the room even without it as we were already tired and just want to rest. The room was slightly bigger and the toilet was a bit nicer than the last room unfortunately the airconditioner was not fully working. We tried to asking to be move to another room but he couldn't give us any more room as everything else was still not clean.
Cheap but below standard”
first of all, the staff didnt speak much of english, some of the simple questions like asking to reservation of taxi is difficult. the room is spacious but old. the room is not thoroughly cleaned and the bath tub is dirty. the only good thing about this hotel is the location and relatively cheap
Good value in an expensive city”
We booked into hotel Lao after having to move three previous times from cheaper hotels due to bedbugs - so arriving in the large clean rooms was heaven! The room was huge, as where the beds. we were thrilled to see a bath, but unfortunately the bathroom flooded whenever we showered so we didnt risk it. The staff were lovely and tried very hard to help us with anything we needed, and didnt charge us when they had to call a locksmith after we locked our key in the room. Location wise it isn't amazing, but there's not a lot to do in the city so it didnt really matter, it's a 5-10 minute walk to the touristy restaurants and cafes, but there's lots of local eats nearby. Breakfast is included, not a huge choice but it does the trick.
Nice place ”
I had a strange experience because I was alone and some called me over and over on my hotel phone and hung up. I got quite scared. The hotel is very close to the downtown so I didn't feel very safe. I'm sure it's safe, but because I was alone I got very worried. When I informed the hotel staff, they told me to unplug my phone....which didn't make me feel any better. But other than that, I stayed for 3 nights in a HUGE room for a night. It was nice. Comfortable. Breakfast included. I liked it.
big rooms, nice garden”
The rooms are big, clean and nice. I can't say the same about the bathroom. The location it's good, walking distance to everything. Be careful with the staff, they are helpful but, triple check if you order a taxi to the airpot or something important. (We had an early flight and they offer to book the taxi for us. It was at 4.30AM but never came because the driver was sick. And the guy in the night reception hardly spoke english and took very bad decisions. With no taxis or tuk tuks on the street it was a very stressing situation. That we solved an hour later...) Barbara
