Better vfm thanks to agoda !”
We got this hotel at a bargain price on Agoda. Was great get away from tourist hustle and bustle of Cat Ba. We went at low season so a little cold and undergoing some refurb/ restoration. But all in all a very pleasant break. Hubs didn't appreciate the lack of customer service and cold breakfast. But hey ho :)
Everything is bad aside from the beautiful location”
This is a remote island. It does not have waste or water connection to the grid, is shipped in by boat and thus has a high oil content. The food is the worst I have eaten. We had food poisoning for our entire stay and the staff were very unresponsive.
Beautiful location ”
The staff and the location are definitely what made this resort so wonderful! My main problem with the resort is the food, there was very little options for breakfast and the rest of the meals (bar the fish) were very westernised and tasted incredibly bland given the cost of this accommodation I would of expected a better quality of meal especially given that it is not possible to bring your own food. I understand that this is a relatively new resort and it may be difficult to bring some foods into the resort due to the location however it would definitely of completed our stay and boosted our rating had the food been of better quality. Besides this I would recommend staying the location really is beautiful and the staff could not of been more friendly/helpful!
Nice relaxing island break”
Monkey island resort was a great place to spend 3 nights. The food is excellent, and staff were extremely friendly and helpful (particularly Tan who helped make our transportation arrangements). It's in a fantastic location from where its possible to explore neighbouring islands using the sea kayaks provided by the resort.
We had a nice time visiting Monkey Island, the bungalows were small but clean. The food was really great and the restaurant had a wonderful view. Boat to and from island was included in the room rate and very well organized.
Beautiful place on small Island”
Nice hotel on small island. Boat to and from island was included in the room rate and very well organized. We got a free upgrade to ocean view. Nice rooms with good beda, internet, wooden floors. Food ok, drinks not very cheap.
Great place, very good service”
I can recommend this place for everyone who looks for a couple of days of relaxation, swimming, reading. There are two beaches, Monkey Island bungalows with one restaurant....and a lot of sun, sea, peace and quiet. No bars, shops, we did not even see the monkeys. It was a great choice for resting after few weeks of travelling. It is also a great alternative to staying on Catba Island, which has worse beaches and crowded city center. Staff, Manager speaks very good english. Food was very good, however there is only one place to eat, so not much choice. All in all very positive if you have good weather and if you look for a quiet break.
Remote location is good for those who want to retire and take a break from people and noise. Staff friendly and attentive. Manager Mr. James can professionally organized tour, and will advise on any issue. We owe him a very lot. Do not forget that it is an island - do not be surprised insects and animals. We went there to relax, and we got it. On the island you can entertain yourself kayaking, billiards, table tennis, darts. There is a trail inter the mountain to the opposite side of the island, where live monkeys and equipped another beach.
This is a new resort so facilities are very good, both for leisure and business. We chose the deluxe sea view bungalow to stay in. The staffs were welcoming and friendly. The resort was in a great location, away out from noisy area in the main land. The rooms were clean and spacious with bright airy bathrooms featuring a large corner bath and shower! The beds were super comfortable with amazing pillows and linen; Free internet; air conditioner! Restaurant on the central house was excellent. It was probably the tastiest breakfast and lunch I have tasted in a long while. Plentiful activities around the resort. Immediate response and favorable outcome from management when any problems were faced. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone.
Lovely resort for relax and honey moon”
my wife and i came here to stay 1 night for our honey moon trip. almost, the resort is very nice. the location is great. it is out of noisy life in the main land. it is 2 kilometers from cat ba town. we got there by a mini bus and tourist boat of the company. the food here was so good and plentiful. we liked the way the staffs here behaved and talked to the customers coming here. they were friendly and humorous. the beach is nice and the water here is pure and no rubbish. it is rather different from beach and water in ha long bay and cat ba town. bungalows on the island are unique and special. the most of bungalow are made of wood. the equipments in the room are new and very good. in our room, we got tv, pc, internet, air conditioner, shampoo... the monkey restaurant is in the central of the island. it is very convenient to get food. i like activities on the island: kayaking, climbing to visit monkeys, billiard, football, volleyball, swimming... the service here was excellent. it is valuable for spending money great, i will come back!
A pleasant surprise awaits you on monkey island”
I didnt expect much but the facility was much better than i expected with very friendly staff. As you approachthe island you will be taken away by the view of the hotel from far, set alone in a private beach with few sun beds.
great place to relax”
This place is difficult to get to. All things in life worth doing are like that in my experience. Taxi. plane, hotel in haiphong, taxi, ferry, xe om, boat. That was our journey from hcm. But it really is paradise, in the morning we ordered our food for lunch and evening and the boat went to town and the fish farm. We went back to cat ba island for the morning and MOODY the manager escorted us and mad sure we got a scooter for hire at the correct pricr, not the tourist rip off price, We are getting married in october and going to bali. If the resort in bali is same as this we will both be very happy. The service and friendly people is amazing. We were there for 3 days and all the staff called us by our first names very intimate and homely
Moldy Dank Disaster- NOT a 'Resort'”
My partner and I booked this nightmare of a place for three nights, out of which we only could stand one. When we arrived, the place looked great, but once you enter past the beach (which was dirty and full of rubbish) you see the rest of the 'resort' which is dank, moldy, musty- and I haven't even mentioned the room. The room had one window which wouldn't open so we weren't able to air the musty/moldiness/dampness out of the room, it was dark, there was black mold in both the bedroom and the bathroom, everything felt damp. The island is so isolated so you can only conveniently eat at the restaurant where starting prices were generally 100,000 dong and the quality was crap for the prices you have to pay. Everything is closed by 9, and there are no staff to help either past this time (not that they were at all helpful to begin with). The complementary breakfast is rubbish- the food was stale and moldy as well. This was the most we payed to stay in vietnam, it's a tourist money grab.
Peaceful place and friendly staffs”
Peaceful place and friendly staff! Duluxe with sea view is recommended! Standard room is too small and damp
Staff horrible, food too expensive, hospitality bad. No word your money. Just go for a trip wirt Ca Ba Vision ( no other toruristboats seen!) and stay after in hoi farmstay to do a trek
Everything was great, most relaxed I've been in my life. The water was fantastic.”
Value for money was unbelievable.
My friend and I are two young backpackers that decided to have one 'splurge' after weeks of $3 hostels and honestly the facilities in the hostels were better. There is very limited wifi in the reception, boat to the Island felt very unsafe (we are sailors so used to the sea) especially when you have to jump from boat onto a slippery rock, ac is only on at night, no hot water, water is very expensive. Our major issue was having to pay an extortionate amount for food and drinks - we were interrogated by staff about food from off island leaving us uncomfortable and not feeling welcome. The resort is used a lot for tours on halong bay and they definitely feel prioritised. I cannot fault the location as it is a stunning bay and all tours from cat ba seem to stop on monkey island - so it's a definite hotspot and we still do not regret our stay here. It was not worth the price we paid - there's rubbish everywhere and left over construction debris scattered everywhere. The staff are trying however with the choppy sea they all appeared overwhelmed and most of the time very unprofessional
I booked this resort and also made a reservation for group tour for two. It was poorly arranged(basically too much waiting time) and they failed to provide the transportation back to Hanoi on time. I was first informed to leave around 11am, which was good for me, but then they later told me that they failed to do so and told my partner and I to wait until 3pm. I was really exhausted so just organized a private transportation which cost me a couple of hundred dollars. The room itself was clean but there was restriction to use electricity only from 9pm or so (cannot remember correctly.)So if you cannot stand hot weather, you might want to be careful. The room was very humid and hot but the AC did not work properly even after 9pm so we tried to make a call to the reception but they didnt anwer. We had to go to the reception and they just said they forgot to turn on the electricity for us. It was quite surprising. The AC did not work for a while even from then, and took about an hour since it started working properly. The beach was also not what I expected, a little dirty. There were unidentified trash(quite alot of them. have no idea what they were) on the water near where people were swimming so we could not get in. Besides, I thought I could see some monkeys there because when I googled it, it seems like i could easily see monkeys there. but when I asked the reception I had to go trekking to find some monkeys and even then i will only be able to see them if i was lucky. I was already tired of some happenings at the resort (mentioned earlier) so did not bother to go find monkeys. Anyway, I dont really want to say mean things but this was pretty much the experience I had at this resort. The staffs were really nice but I was really disappointed with the inefficient and irresponsible service they provided. Hope others will not have problems like us.
Past it's best”
My main issue with this place is it's basically a back packers but charging 3 star prices. We paid over $100 for a double with an ensuits that I wouldn't shower my dog off in, it was filthy, mouldy, with holes in the wall semi patched up with paper cello taped over the hole but even that was half off and they couldn't be bothered to patch it up properly. I wouldn't mind if I'd paid $30 but I do mind when paying considerable cash and when it's pimped up to be something special. We could also hear a rodent scrabbling behind our wooden walls. Beach is very pretty but too close to the floating fishing village to want to swim as they chuck all their debris in the sea. We wouldn't return , it needs major investment.
Monkeys have more sense than to stay here”
The resort is dirty and run down. We witnessed one guest fall through the rotten stairs severely cutting herself - ending her holiday. The food is bland and heavily overpriced. The rooms disappointing. The beds uncomfortable. Reviews are subjective - wish I had listened to the many negative reviews prior to wasting 2 days of my vacation .
