The room has high ceiling as if victorian houses. Staff are very nice and polite. Old but everything tidy up perfectly. If you don't have a car or have heavy luggage it maybe quite hard to get here. But I can guarantee that you will find satisfied with the room in the old building.
A Grand Hotel in a beautiful historic city”
Nara Hotel is everything you would expect from one of the old heritage hotels on the oldest capital of Japan. This year, it celebrates its 110 year and it’s looking every bit as good as it did when it first opened! Think teal and mahogany fittings in a period style hotel with grand tea rooms and silver service restaurants. It’s situated just off the Nara parks which have all the sights within walking distance. The shuttle bus service to the two stations is a nice touch. The hotel shop sells its merchandise and they do have beautiful stuff. Book a room on the old building to get the best experience.
I stayed in Nara Hotel once a year, never feel disappointed. One time, I tried to borrow the luggage weight after checking out. When I came back from lunch to take my luggage, all the bags were weighted with a small hand-written tag on it. Very thoughtful! The food, staffs, views and the hotel itself are perfect! Definitely will stay here next time.
If you are looking for a high quality services, this is the right place for you. The architecture is also another selling point! Old fancy looks from the outside and nice interior designs as well. I, personally was out most of the time but next time if I visit Nara I will definitely use it again to enjoy my stay.
An old dame, an experience for those who love antique hotels”
This Grande Dame of Nara is an old wooden building full of elegance and history. The hotel has access to an amazing garden which belonged centuries ago to a temple. Rooms have very tall roofs and have old furniture. The hotel has wonderful ball rooms to enjoy a drink and interesting paintings on the walls, some from famous Japanese artists such as Uemura Shoen. Service is very professional with the classic touch suitable for this hotel.
Classic hotel with over 100 years history”
Staying at the hotel itself is very special. It is a historical building but very well maintained. The hotel has many famous guests in the past including the Japanese Royal families. There is a short cut down the stair via the car park to get to the town
Very good hotel”
The hotel is slightly old itself but the rooms are very traditional Japanese style and I love it. The food was great! You can walk 15 mins or so to feed the deer, a very nice hotel! Staff are friendly and their English skills are good as well.
Great historic hotel”
Stayed in a traditional Japanese room in the main building - bathroom tub might need a change to look cleaner and fresher... Other than that it was a perfect room and perfect shower, great bathroom supplies!!! Lovely service from the staff. We will definitely stay again! Everything in walking distance!
Cultural and historical City”
It's not cheap compared with other hotels in the city. It's not near JR nor Kintetsu Station. But it's very near the sight-seeing spots. The service is excellent. Everything is clean and tidy. The room is relatively big in Japan. The hotel is indeed historical and properly the most high-class on in Nara. Therefore, I think Agoda had really offered me a relatively cheap price. It's highly recommended for tourists with enough funds.
Wonderful experience at Nara Hotel. Highly recommend ”
I had one night stay and has a extremely delightful experience. The hotel has an elegant, classic style, a wonderful mix of easy and west. It well located for visiting Nara park, Todai-Ji, Kofuku-Ji, Kasaga-Trisha shrine, Isuien garden and Yushitien Gatden. But the real treasure is it’s staff: they are an army of magicians willing to go out of their way to help you! I forgot my camera charge at home, the lady in front desk alled all the electronics stores in order to find a replacement for me, once Located she placed it on hold, write me a note it and called a taxi to take me there. My glasses came apart during dinner, the waitress lady magically found a tool and fix the tiny screw such a disaster was avoided! The lady helping with my luggage did much more for me with bus, train and tour information. I’ve stayed in 5 stars hotels, this one standout as they made me feel like a royal, and that’s what a 5 star hotel is all about!
You will actually feel like Japanese royalty when staying there. The location is perfect, the staff is extremely friendly. The stay in this hotel was definitely one of the highlights of our Japan trip.
Oldschool Grand Hotel with a great history”
The Nara Hotel is e real Grand Hotel of the good old times. For example: you get no keycard for your room, you get a key! It's more than 100 yaers old and in former times Hollywood stars Royals stayed here. So most of the guests today are also wealthy and love the atmosphere there. Just look for a good prize and you can also for 1-2 nights be a part of Japanese establishment.
From the second you arrive all the staff make your feel special. Yes it’s a special place with all the history and the building and rooms , we stayed in the old section, the high ceilings in the rooms and corridors certainly tell you a story as you walk them. Both restaurants serve beautiful food, and the staff certainly ensure you enjoy your experience. The bar area provides an exquisite experience should you take the time to enjoy a cocktail , or two. Again the staff were superb. We will definitely return to hotel Nara should we visit Japan again in the near future. Well done to all the staff we had the good fortune of meeting, and also to the many other staff behind the scenes, especially chef!s, our dinners on every evening were superb, one could dream of the experience of enjoying the French onion soup that both my wife and l enjoyed.
Over priced ”
Booked before we went on Agoda and price changed when we checked out. Paid $365 for one night. It was a nice hotel but not worth what we paid for it. If we go to Nara again we would want to stay closer to the station as there is no restaurants or shopping around
Lovely old-style hotel”
Great location and very comfortable
Old style elegance”
Gorgeous old building. New wing v comfortable also, if not spectacular. Old-style elegance. A bit more English at reception would be nice....
a good place to stay, have good history and story
Most comfortable beds!”
Beautiful hotel. Great location within walking distance of major attractions The beds were sooo comfortable and the linens and pillows so nice to the touch. Staff was exceptionally helpful. Only disappointment was not being able to sample their delicious food;restaurants in hotel we’re just too expensive. I think breakfast is at least afternoon tea should have been complimentary.
