So much potential, an amazing manager/maintenance person, an overall positive experience, but....”

This place has so much potential. Rich, the one-man manager, caretaker, maintenance and housekeeping person and customer service - is awesome. He works so hard to get this place running well, and knows his stuff. He is very cognizant of the issues that this place has, and has tried to address them as best as he can - but he has only so much ability and time to wear all the hats. The location is excellent, the rooms are big, the showers have good pressure and high end shower gel, the dog is friendly, and it reminds me of a little bit of a lodge-style. I loved that there were SO MANY books in the main lobby area, and constant snacks, coffee, soda etc. - and in the evening we were encouraged to socialize in the main area, meet one another, we even had a karaoke night with the karaoke machine. (So that's one advantage of not having any tv or internet...) I should note that I am fine with 'roughing it', I'm not considered high maintenance, I like camping, and this was like that, sort of. It felt like being in a youth hostel again, which was fun and refreshing. The place has good bones. It looks like a lodge or chalet, there's a flat screen tv, microwave and fridge in every room, fab artwork on the walls. In its heyday, it seems to be the kind of place like the Catskills - the hotel, dining room, nightclub/bar, gift shop, pool, outbuildings and cottages for people to stay. At the time I was there, there was only one wing in the ground floor that was taking guests, but with continued investment and commitment this could be a really nice, rustic place. Our room opened to nature, which was lovely. There's a back patio which wasn't really used, but again, could be used to really wonderful ends - especially in a pandemic. They aspire to have 'backyard' socials and cookouts on the patio, which I think is wonderful and I'd totally take part in that when offered. I rated it a 6 but it's more like a 6.5.
So there's potential, and reality. This place really needs more commitment and TLC than one man, even one as capable and talented as Rich, can provide. It needs investment. Also, a dehumidifier system. When we were there, the tv and internet didn't work because the property owner insisted on the cheaper option of satellite internet/tv, and it's too cloudy for that to work. Cell service also didn't work for AT&T. (My husband went wandering at one point with Rich on a tour of the grounds, and was gone for a while and I couldn't reach him and had no idea where he'd gone to - I felt like I was in one of those true-crime-husband-just-disappeared-into-air programs.) The beds are solid, but the mattresses need updating badly, they're near-original, we were told. The place is visibly under renovation, which is fine for me but others might not think so. The conference room, restaurant and bar are as if people left suddenly mid-meal. There's a pool, but it's full of mold. Speaking of mold, that's the biggest problem with this place. At the end of August, this place was WET. Not just damp, but wet. We thought the toilet was leaking but it was all the condensation. The musty smell that others have mentioned was pervasive. It really was the biggest problem, because it was physically uncomfortable. If I had asthma or other such issues I'd have been worried about staying there, or staying long-term, but it was just three days/two nights.

OK”

Liked the nostalgic type feel. Owner was very accommodating and wanted us to be comfortable and happy. BBQ dinner provided by hotel and snacks were provided along with breakfast items. Slept great!
If you are looking for a place that is not rustic, then this is not the place to go. TV didn't work and there was no phone service there but I guess you would have to expect that being it was in mountains. It was musty and smelled like mold.

An adventure and quite the story to retell to friends and family”

After our original reservation was canceled due to over booking, this hotel was the only one available close to the proximity of the event for that we traveled. The woman who checked us in was very pleasant and accommodating. The price was decent.
When we first pulled in it reminded us of the beginning of every horror film where for some reason or other you ended up staying at a desolate hotel. This hotel was like a walk back in time to the 60s or 70s and had a cool vibe. That would be great except bathrooms, carpet, mattresses, towels should be updated, I believe they are original from that time. The place was dirty, tattered and stained. The springs were completely shot in the mattresses and I could barely move the next day. Needless to say, we left early the next morning.

Overpriced. Motel 6 has better maintained rooms.”

Very little, unfortunately. Exterior looked nice. Great wooded location. Very quiet outside.
Smell of mildew upon entering the lobby. Smoke detector beeping every minute. No hot water. Water gets luke warm at best after running it for over 10 minutes. The room has been repaired many times by someone who should not be doing maintenance. Caulk and sloppy paint. Mattresses were just springs with very little padding. This property has so much potential, but it's clear that ownership is much more concerned with income rather than upkeep. Wont repeat this mistake.
