The hotel has a nice sunrise view if you choose to stay in the river view room. The only shortcoming is the breakfast coffee which is too light and no coffee flavour. The hotel owner Pon is a very nice person.
cool welcoming oasis of luxury in the 4000 islands”
Mr Pon is the perfect host at this hidden gem. The spacious rooms have excellent furnishings, top quality beds, crisp white llinens, snowy white towels, stone trim bathrooms and cool clean tile floors. Toiletries, hairdryer, pool towels and jug show the level of attention to comfort. The menu shows attention to detail and planning providing a cross section of cuisines. All staff deserve a mention especially Mr Kumsing. The efficiency of the staff shows training and commitment to excellence. After a day at the rapids or boating on the Mekong the clean sparkling infinity pool is un beatable before a cool drink on the deck and dinner beside the Mekong. I can only hope to be blessed enough to return to again enjoy Mr Pon's hospitality.
Luxurious for Asia”
By far the nicest place we stayed in our month in SE Asia. New construction, tasteful, a comfortable bathroom with an actual bathtub! There was sawing going on constantly on their new building (the one with the pool), which was annoying. However, we enjoyed relaxing on the island so much after a few hectic weeks of travelling, we didn’t want to leave.
A nice place to stay”
At first, we had to wait a bit long for check in, the staffs were not very good at English. The room was clean, large and well-organised but there was no hair dryer and the security lock was not working. There were also mosquitos in the room. Over all, it was the best hotel in island.
A very pleasant stay.”
We had a pleasant, extended stay. The rooms are large, comfortable and well tended. Breakfast is pretty limited. There was no internet connection for almost of our stay, which the owner was unwilling to investigate or repair until another guest became a good deal more aggressive about it than we'd been. Despite this and some occasionally very noisy neighbors, it's a good place to stay and good value for money. Additionally, there's very good massage, eithere in room or a short walk down the road.
Nice hotel at the Mekong reachable by ferry only”
We stayed for one night on Don Khong, we had smooth arrival even we arrived after sunset and after the standard ferry hours. Sadly the hotel restaurant closed at 9pm so we cloud not try it out. Other than that we had a nice rood with great view. The hotel is located around 200 meters from the ferry port.
We really enjoyed staying at this hotel during our stay at the 4000 islands. In particular we enjoyed the very western bathroom which made us feel at home, after our long period of traveling through Southeast Asia. The views for the pool and restaurant are also fantastic. I do feel that the list of ammenties is not correct as there is just one pool and no pool bar. But we still rate this hotel very highly.
Friendly and helpful owner”
Pon Arena is the best hotel on the island. It is more expensive then the many guesthouses that cater for the backpackers. The best rooms are right on the Mekong river, with great views. If your budget allows you, this is the nicest place to stay and organize outings to the several beautiful sceneries on and around the island.
Fantastic view of the Mekong!”
The owner, Pon, was very nice and helpful. Also the staff. The restaurant was also on the Mekong so our view for breakfast and sunset drinks were breathtaking. The hotel even has a small pool with the view of the Mekong. We were able to order special Lao dishes that was on the menu ahead of time and the food was delicious. The only thing we didn't like was the coffee. They do need to serve better coffee for breakfast. Fortunately, we brought our own instant which the staff provided us with pots of hot water.
We had feared that this place would be pretty grim. It was a lot better than that. But don't expect luxury - it's a hotel for tour parties. You do get big rooms, reasonable food, comfortable beds, and a good location on the banks of the Mekong. But there is nowhere comfortable to relax, unless you are happy to sit in full sun in a tiled area round the pool. No shade, no plants. Feels a bit like a throwback to communist times.
Great location and views”
Be sure to pay a few extra dollars for the great view of the Mekong. Great little restaurant s nearby with great food and drink.
The best at Don Khong”
Definitely there is no other option when you stay at Don Khong because they are simply the best especially if you like some comfort.
very friendly staff.. Mr pon is really extremely friendly and always at hand looking after the place ..
There is no doubt about the location right on the River Mekong which was a delight to see on getting out of bed in the morning. Spacious room, good bathroom and pleasant balcony. Two Infinity Pools which got very little use. Plenty of cleaning done. Usually good WiFi but not quite always! The big let down was the breakfast and this alone makes me feel that this was not good value. Freshly cooked fried eggs which were often congealed and some sad looking fruit and salad items. The toasting machine was perhaps the slowest I have ever encountered in a hotel and that is saying something! There was bacon and mini hot dog type sausages as well as some tasteless cakes but no cereals or anything else! I would recommend this hotel, mainly for its location but with serious reservations about its value for money and the quality of the breakfast
Terrible. Not in the spirit of 4000 island. Manager is ego centric and not franck. He abuses of his monopole on the island to screw You on everything. Hôtel is a Dead zone off season. Avoid and go straight to don det. Very bad value.
great hotel on the river”
,This hotel has the potential to be excellant , with its position and room size , but , to provide a kettle with no cups or tea/coffee , and a lovely host , who fails to provide any guidance as to what sights this beautiful area has to offer , lets it down in the level it is advertising to be
Very nice hotel in a quiet location”
We initially booked on Agoda a Deluxe River View Room. On arrival we found there are rooms that are actually right on the river, not just with a view. As the upgrade was quite expensive ($55 for River View, $85 for River Front), for our 1st of three nights we didn't upgrade but for our 2nd and 3rd nights we did and were glad we did. The room was larger and newer and as mentioned, has full unobstructed Mekong views. The rooms could be improved by sealing up some of the large (1/2 inch) gaps around the windows, installing a shower curtain or sliding glass to contain the shower water, and adding some wall hangings or paintings to warm up the room environment. Breakfast was very good and the 3 dinners we had in the restaurant were very good to excellent. All in all, we really enjoyed the hotel and the quiet, sleepy ambiance of Don Khong.
Best hotel on the island of Don Khong”
This is the best hotel on the island. Try to get a room with the river view, as the hotel has 2 buildings, 1 on the banks of the river with 4 rooms, the other building is not right on the river. The owner is very nice and helpful. the food is ok, don't forget that you are in a very laid back environment. No supermarkets or fancy shops. Nature and beautiful surroundings is what this place is all about. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The restaurant is located right on the river. The same family also owns a nice guest house. Great location to start exploring the surroundings.
Would not stay here again ”
The hotel was ok! the staff were waiting to come into my room at 8am on my belcony ( just looking in ) the pool and surrounding area had building work going on. The breakfast was lovely
Very nice room, nice view, pleasent staff”
Restaurant - medium quality
