Problems with bedbugs”
Good location and breakfast
First things first - the hotel has a great location on the waterfront, and serves good breakfasts. The quirky interior is nice but the service is lacking - not much can be done without management approval so think B&B run by staff without authority rather than a hotel. These issues are small though in comparison to a problem we had with bedbugs during our four night stay. On the second night my husband had a few bites on his hand which we mistakenly put down to mosquitoes. After the third night it became clear this wasn't the case, he awoke with his hands and feet covered in lines of bites which were so itchy and painful he was left taking antihistamines for three days after. At 7am we requested a new room, after 'management approval' was given we were moved later that day. The staff on duty at the time acknowledged that the bites looked to be bedbugs, but only made a cursory check of the room two hours after we'd got out of the bed. I regret not making more of a fuss about this at the time, but on checkout the following day we wanted to get out and get on with our holiday, and were so relieved we hadn't had an issue in the new room we just wanted to get away. After it took a week for the bites to subside (and we felt quite shocked by the lack of help or apology during the time) we emailed to complain again to give the hotel chance to rectify the issue and refund us in part for the problem stay. After three weeks they wrote a response saying they hadn't found anything which underlined to us that no action had been taken in terms of a correct clean, therefore we think it's right to warn other travellers about what is a clear problem.
