More about Potts Point

Kings Cross, about a kilometer east of Sydney City Center, is one of Sydney's most colorful and exciting areas. Signposted by the famous neon Coca-Cola billboard, Kings Cross is a popular area for young budget travelers owing to its affordable guesthouses, its abundance of bars and clubs, its proximity to the city center and its convenience to Bondi Beach. More than just guesthouses and hostels, Kings Cross/Potts Point has a growing number of serviced apartments and chic hotels.

Darlinghurst Road is the street that cuts directly through the middle of the Kings Cross/Potts Point area. Most of the suburb's hotels, bars and clubs are located within a few blocks of Darlinghurst Road and though elements of the suburb's red-light character remain, this area is becoming progressively gentrified and Potts Point has some of the most sought-after real estate in Sydney.

West of Darlinghurst Road, Kings Cross's rows of Victorian terraces are mostly residential and to the north where Potts Point begins, the main strip turns from nightclubs and bars to hip restaurants, cafés and boutique stores. In terms of dining and entertainment the Kings Cross/Potts Point area is completely self-contained, with a diverse array of restaurants, pubs, clubs and bars.

On the eastern side, Elizabeth Bay's art deco apartment blocks sit beside sleek designer condominiums. Rushcutters Bay, at the area's eastern edge, is an affluent enclave of houses and apartments. Rushcutters Bay Park is a picturesque green space that sets the scene for joggers, dog-walkers and family picnics, while the bay itself is home to Sydney Yacht Club and offers spectacular views.

Kings Cross is served by an underground railway station and major bus services that run to the eastern suburbs and the city center. From Kings Cross it's a ten-minute train ride to Bondi Junction bus and rail terminal and a similar journey to the Sydney CBD.
