Bali stands out as the 2018 ‘mid-year charmer’

Bali, with its lineup of mid-year festivals, has emerged as the top destination for Indonesian travelers, according to new data published today from Agoda.

From the 40th annual Bali Arts Festival (June to July), which celebrates local culture and art, the Bali Kites Festival (July to October), dotting the sky with hundreds of colorful kite creations, the Makepung Buffalo Races (July to November) featuring a series of buffalo racing competitions, to Ubud Writer Festival. Travelers have plenty of reasons to keep returning to Bali.

Bandung is another hotspot for Indonesian travelers, taking second place in the rankings. On top of being a go-to weekend getaway from those in neighboring cities like Jakarta, the valley city of Bandung is famous for its distro shopping centers and Sundanese culinary spots.

Indonesians’ love of Japan continues with Tokyo (#3) and Osaka (#9) both making an appearance in the top ten. Tokyo’s Ueno Summer Festival (July to August) will be sure to draw huge crowds with its charming toro nagashi (flowing lantern) ceremonies, outdoor ice sculpture exhibitions and live performances at the Suijo Ongakudo open-air theatre. Osaka boasts many summertime highlights like Tenjin and Gion Matsuri festivals. The city also has local beaches and water parks on top of its year-round attractions.

Indonesians traveling abroad also favor neighboring Southeast Asian cities Singapore (#4), Kuala Lumpur (#5) and Bangkok (#7).
