Travel is undoubtedly the best way to unwind, and in anticipation of this annual event, global digital travel platform Agoda reveals Taiwan’s top 5 domestic travel destinations. Taipei, with its rich activities and convenient transportation, takes the lead, followed by Taichung, Kaohsiung, Tainan, and Yilan. For those still unsure of where to relax, this list provides some of the best options.

#1 Taipei

Taipei takes the crown as the most beloved domestic travel destination. Many travellers enjoy exploring the city along its efficient metro system, visiting popular attractions like the iconic Taipei 101, historic Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, and bustling Shilin Night Market. The regular festivities taking place in the capital add to Taipei’s charm, and this summer be sure not to miss the 2023 Dadaocheng Summer Festival from July 1st to August 20th, spanning 51 days of exciting, themed experiences. Every Wednesday evening, there is a mesmerizing firework show. And in addition there’s a container market, providing both adults and children with the perfect lazy spot to enjoy the sunset and indulge in delicious cuisine by the riverside.

#2 Taichung

Taichung has numerous Instagram-worthy spots, with Gaomei Wetland acclaimed internationally as a must-visit, listed among the world’s Seven Mirrors in the Sky. Apart from capturing beautiful photos, visitors can explore attractions like the National Museum of Natural Science, Feng Chia Night Market, and Rainbow Village. Gaomei Wetland is also an ideal spot for crab-watching and witnessing stunning sunsets. It’s the perfect combination for International Lazy Day, enjoying world-class sunset views in a lazy and relaxed manner!

#3 Kaohsiung

Kaohsiung not only has the well-known Xizi Bay but also the Dadong Wetlands Park, often referred to as Kaohsiung’s version of the “Forget Your Worries Forest.” Within the park, lush greenery and naturally serene landscapes create a truly exquisite haven, perfect for unwinding and contemplation. It’s an ideal destination to let go and immerse oneself in this beautiful and tranquil sanctuary. Visitors can also explore popular sites like the Lotus Pond and Pier-2 Art Center.

#4 Tainan

Known for its cuisine, but Tainan is also the home of a hidden gem that even locals may not have visited: the Pillow Mountain Observation Deck. From the mountaintop one can overlook the entire Chiayi–Tainan Plain, with different sceneries from dawn to sunset. The vast and breathtaking views, coupled with a gentle breeze, instantly make all worries fade away. Travelers can also explore historic attractions like Anping Fort and Chihkan Tower or indulge in Tainan’s renowned street food.

As the sun rises from the horizon, its golden rays spread over the ocean, creating a heartwarming and uplifting atmosphere full of positive energy. Visitors can also explore other attractions like the Luodong Night Market and Dongshan River Water Park for a fun-filled day of leisure and relaxation.
