Agoda’s findings reveal that more Taiwanese are traveling during the Lunar New Year holiday this year. Domestic travel increased by 44% with Taipei, Taichung and Yilan emerging as the most popular destinations, according to accommodation search data from Agoda. The uptick in domestic travel reflects the growing appeal of both Taiwan’s bustling urban centers and coastal nature destinations alike for cultural and festive celebrations.
Taiwanese travelers are also increasingly seeking international destinations, showcasing a 48% growth in outbound travel according to Agoda accommodation search data. Tokyo leads the ranking, followed closely by other popular Asian cities like Bangkok and Osaka. This trend signifies a strong desire among Taiwanese for both cultural exploration and festive getaway experiences during the Lunar New Year period.
International travelers favor Taiwan’s city destinations for Lunar New Year travel, with Taipei, Kaohsiung and Taichung being the most popular, according to accommodation searches on Agoda. Taiwan draws the most visitors during this holiday period from Hong Kong, South Korea and Malaysia.
