Agoda volunteers use their skills and expertise to help support the tourism community Talat Noi

As the up-and-coming Talat Noi community near Chinatown which houses several cafes, bars, and local businesses, prepares to welcome tourists back into the bustling city of Bangkok, leading digital travel platform Agoda pitched in to provide skills-based volunteering to help the Talat Noi entrepreneurs.

The program, which was held on Tuesday, February 22 and Friday, February 25, 2022, offers opportunities for Agodans to volunteer to share their technology, photography, marketing, or design skills and expertise and help support the grass roots tourism industry in Thailand through the partnership with Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Hivesters, an impact travel company with a mission to preserve and rejuvenate Thai culture by empowering local masters.

“The tourism hospitality industry continues to show its resilience and hunger to welcome tourists back with the very best experiences. Through this initiative, Agoda’s teams in Bangkok offer a diverse range of skills, backgrounds, and experiences and provide guidance, support and ideas to help these small to mid-sized enterprises in Talat Noi to flourish,” said Greg Wong, Managing Director, Agoda.

Mr. Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Deputy Governor for Marketing and Communications, said: “TAT has implemented its ‘Visit Thailand Year 2022: Amazing New Chapters’ campaign to help revive the country’s tourism sector in a strong and sustainable way. By embracing the government’s BCG economic model, Thai tourism will be presented in many dimensions including the application of technology to provide services. We will focus on creating experiences and marketing through storytelling, presenting our tourist attractions narratively to stimulate domestic travel under the campaign ‘Traveling in Thailand Is Amazing More Than Ever (เที่ยวเมืองไทย Amazing ยิ่งกว่าเดิม)’. By providing tourists experiences that are much more valuable than the price they pay, we can also promote community-based tourism, health tourism, and cultural tourism. TAT is delighted that Agoda has helped us with the supply side, which is a key driver to tourism as well as beneficial to society and the economy. They have also helped the Talat Noi community prepare to accommodate international travelers.”

Agodans worldwide are offered a paid Volunteer Time Off day to volunteer for a range of charities and NGOs, including tree planting in Chiang Mai, #MyPledge beach cleaning initiative in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia, and Giving Tuesday in North America.
