The Most Awful Hostel”
The photos posted were different from the actual room set-up
Super worth at this low agoda price”
Pros : 1. Great location, easy access to food amd Grabcar 2. Clean and comfortable room 3. Superbly friendly staffs 4. Fast internet 5. Great value for money IMHO. Cons : 1. Shared bathroom, other resident left their diving shorts in basin (not hotel's fault). 2. Toilet flush bad quality (staff came up to repair, but spoilt again later, too many people using perhaps? ) Hence the 4 star for facilities 3. Shoplot opposite of hotel plays loud music at night and morning, not advisable for light sleepers (i understand out of owner's control as well, just writing to let others know and be mentally prepared). Soundproof weak, but I'm not asking for 5 star facilities at 1 star price. 😁😁😁
Wrote in Agoda in not same with facilities in the room”
Before booking, better call direct to the hostel either the room has toilet inside, television. I booked Privated King Bed, the room just share toilet outside and no tv. The room has aircond, 2 bottles of drinking water, two pair of slippers for going to toilet. The hostel provide simple brekafast; bread with jam, coffee and tea starting on 8am onward. I felt dispointed, facilities in Agoda are not provided in real one. Dishonest.
This time we got room 103 - it was the best one we had in Prima B&B! As always, Peter and his staff were excellent, very helpful and they did everything they could to make our stay better. Thanks again Peter!
Hi David, Have a good day to you. Hope you all are enjoy the holiday vacation trip at Sabah. Would like to say thank you and appreciate for your support again and your all comment is very useful for us to learn more improvement of our lodges facilities & services. Onces again our management teams are happy to meet you all and hope that your all will keep the good memories moment during the vacation at Sabah. Thank you and mindent újra látni és gondoskodni. Good bye. Regards, Peter & Teams
Our second stay in Prima B&B was just as enjoyable as the first one. This time we went with a private room with ensuite bathroom and for us it was worth the upgrade. The only problem was (again) with the toilet which couldn’t be flushed using the regular button. There must be a nasty toilet-ghost living in the premises that keeps messing it up ;)
Nice hostel close to Sepilok and the airport”
The hostel is close to the new Sandakan bus station, there are several shops and small restaurants close by. Nothing much to see or do here, but that was not a problem for us. The staff is simply amazing, the manager, Peter went out of his was to help us throughout our stay. Really one of the most helpful guy we encountered during our trip! Still on the plus side, you get free drinking water from the dispenser, the private rooms are equipped with AC and the place is usually quiet. The minor problems we had were related to the shared bathrooms. They are a bit rundown and could be a tad bit cleaner. Since our original stay, we came back for one night in a private room with ensuite bath and let me tell you, it’s much better. Go with this option if it suits your plans and budget. Overall a nice place I’d recommend if you’re visiting Sandakan for the orangutans.
Best place in sandakan!!”
Peter (the owner) is so nice. Accidentally booked the wrong date but with a simply phone call they changed my booking with no extra fee. When we arrived, we were lost and Peter went out of the way to come and pick us up and proceeded to show us around. The day after we arrived, we woke up late but still wanted to check out the gomantong caves and he called a local company and arranged a private tour at a very reasonable price. Finally, we misplaced a piece of jewelry and he rush mailed it to us in Kota Kinabalu before we left Sabah. Although it sounds like our trip was from hell, Peter and this facility made sandakan our favorite place in Sandakan. His hospitality is like no other. Plus, the wifi is AMAZING!!
Lovely to see a friendly face after days of travel”
After spending four nights in Sepilok and in the rainforest, stepping into prima b&b and meeting Peter was an absolute delight as he has been by far the friendliest person we have met since arriving in Malaysia. He made sure everything was fine with us, recommending where to eat and even drove us to the bus station for our bus to KK. He is an absolute gent and would definitely stay here again without doubt. Location wise, it is 8KM away from the main city centre but in honestly you wouldn't want to stay in there as its full of people and also filthy. The location is held in a sort of urban square that literally has everything in it away from the city centre. From 7/11 to retail to laundry to fancy or cheap eatries. What we did was rented a car (which Peter organised for us) and made our own way to labuk bay and gomatong cave (very easy to drive to).
Great for the airport.”
Lovely staff and great location for the airport. Very close to HSBC ATM as well and several shops and food places.
Spacious room. Free tea / coffee, breakfast is toast with kaya / jam. A lot of hair on the floors (should be cleaned more often), but the place was generally clean. Not directly in Sandakan, but connected to Sandakan and Sepilok via bus. Everything you need is nearby.
Smelly , noisy in the morning”
We got a room which is the flush is not in a good condition. The water from the flush keep dropping resulting bad smell.next morning, we are not sure what they are doing but it is really noisy.seem like they are pulling some stuff (maybe chair) at another level.we cant sleep well
overall still a good budget hotel”
shared toilet stinks, room plywood wall partitions with bad sound proofing. during daytime ,nose from the front yoga studio and the kitchen restaurant behind .the only good thing is the fast internet but sometimes down. staffs slept on duty during early morning so need to press the door bell and knock on the door for quite awhile to get it opened.
Fast internet speed and good location (near to bank, eateries, laundry self-service shops, convenience stores) were the top reasons why I continue staying at this place. The shared bathroom is not really tidy - can do better. But the soap was not being replenished and the holder for the shower head and the toilet seat were broken. The wall was quite thin that I was able to hear people chit-chatting from another room. The sound from opposite block was audible but I still could still sleep. The pillows were comfy though; the owner was friendly, and the staffs were polite. Simple breakfast (coffee, tea & bread) and water dispenser were available at the dining room
Nice, cheap place with a strategic location!”
The place is really worth the price!Staffs are friendly and accommodation was really nice.Fast wifi and working aircond.Place are really strategic as well, many shops around and walking distance to the bus stop so it is easy to get bus.Feels safe to walk at night because many restaurants are 24 hours. Will stay again here next time!
The only downside is the location”
This hostel is lovely, good facilities and really friendly staff. But it's in the middle of nowhere! Not even in the jungle middle of no where, it's in a small little town. Everyone was shocked to see tourists around there. Luckily we befriended a taxi driver who took us everywhere. As long as you are happy being completely out of the main Harbour area, this place is great :) thanks to the lovely staff too
Great budget place”
We spent 5 nights in total at the B&B and it was a great stay. The location is perfect for restaurants/amenities. We found the guesthouse to be clean, the beds comfortable and the A/C strong. Internet is the fastest we have experienced in Sabah! The manager is very friendly and always makes sure that all the guests have a comfortable stay. We would definitely stay here again.
Peter was awesome”
Pros : (1) Peter, the boss or main staff, was very helpful to introduce what sandakan has to offer. He was very detail oriented and gave recommendations on food as well. He made a huge difference. (2) Location was good in comparison to the 3 other places I've stayed in Sandakan. (3) I love the huge floor to ceiling windows. Cons : (1) A bit noisy from the Zumba classes and bar opposite. (2) Only 1 toilet bowl on the floor which had 4 rooms and max capacity of 10ppl. Only 1 toilet bowl was definitely going to be a big problem. However, I was lucky it wasn't packed. (3) A bit of water leaking during the heavy rain. Did not affect my stay.
The team is here beyond helpful to anything you need. Room was great and comfortable and wifi was excellent!!!! You can day trip out of here or if you are looking for a place to enjoy a down day in a nice room, this is a great place to do so! Would recommend and thanks Prima B&B.
We were very satisfied with our time at Prima B&B. The staff were helpful with directions for local buses to various sites, resturant recommendations in the immidiate area and they were also able to drop us off at the long distance bus terminal for a small fee. The facilities were as advertised on the web site and in the photos. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom large with good water pressure and hot water (in the private double room, I cannot comment on other room types). We liked this better than our previous accomidations in central Sandakan. The CBD of Sandakan has a lot of resturants that close by 8 or even 7pm, so there weren't many dinning options there while here in Prima Square that wasn't an issue. Prima Square is also well connected by transit options to all major sites in the area. The staff can also book tours for you, but we didn't use this option. Finally, Wi-fi signal was strong in our room and worked well. Note, despite being called a B&B they do not servce any breakfast (seems like a common missuse of the term in Malaysia).
