Amazing pool, vintage rooms.”
We stayed here one night before moving on and really couldn’t complain. The room was in the old part of the building which was quite cool as it had a nostalgic feel to it, very spacious. The pool is amazing and clean. Would definitely come back here.
Prince Hotel is one of the oldest modern style hotels still operating in the town. During the years I have stayed plenty of times in Prince and I have no complaints at all - rather opposite. Prince is not a small hotel by any means but it has a cozy and nice feeling. There is a nice pool area and a small park at the inner yard between the two hotel buildings. It usually never get crowded or busy at the premises which is nice if you are looking for peaceful place in the heart of Chiang Mai. Smallish streets around the hotel are perfect for walking and the location is very good to reach Chiang Mai's major attractions (like Thapae Gate, Old Town, China Town market etc.) by foot. Prince hotel has newly renovated rooms in it's main building. It seems the second building is still going under some construction work but during our stay we were not distracted by the work. Hotel is ideal for people who are looking for a basic yet peaceful place that is well located in CM.
It took over an hour to check in. ”
I had booked the hotel a night early accidently. We took the night train in from Bangkok. We arrived in the morning and it took over an hour to check in to a room that I had paid for the night before, that they wouldn't refund. When we finally got in the room the power was out. The beds are horrible and I would suggest you don't stay there. Loved Chiang Mai though!
Becareful of Old rooms”
Don't bother selecting the basic room. It was old and smell of mildew. The wall was in such a bad shape. The closet the bottom were ready to fall off. The bed sheets had stains on them. The bathroom door was peeling at the bottom. Basically it was not in a liveable condition at all. Called Agoda to change the hotel, but the hotel moved me to a different part of the hotel which was rennovated. Those rooms should never have been offered to anyone at any price. It was really bad. If you decide to take that room, do it at your risk. You been warned.
Better than the pictures that you saw”
It was an old hotel but it is renovated recently. The room is spacious and nice with a wooden floor, and a big terrence. Big swimming pool where you can kill some time for a lazy afternoon before night out. I spent 10 nights in a delux double room and everyday went well. Very kind staffs. Around 10 mins walk to the main gate of old city. Comfortable bed. Free coffee and tea 24 hours at the lobby. Only one con is the poor soundproof. You can hear the noise and the spanking of doors form the corridor easily and the chat from the next rooms. Overall it is very good for value and I would probably stay here again.
Hotel has its charms including a nice Thai wooden decor in the lobby. The location is great, just a 5 minute walk into the hustle and bustle of old city. Easy to get a Grab taxi everywhere too. No restaurant or bar in the hotel but plenty good eating and drinking places in the area and China town for cheap shopping is a short walk. It could really do with an upgrade - bathrooms, changing of furniture etc. and it didn't feel super clean but its rates obviously suggest that. It does the job and frankly for the price compared to most hotels it makes a lot of sense. Pool was nice - no gym.
Dont drink water at Lobby coffee machine”
Dont drink water at Lobby coffee machine, some workers try to save small money ~30 bht by filling up the water container themself instead of getting it from shop. i actually got bad stomach pains and diarrhea from drinking it, later on the evening I saw how they filled it on tap water behind the office. Also they try make business with key to in room safe, they clain it has 20 bht price per day and deposit 1000 bht.. Obviously no need to pay if can show them room description from agoda app. They are doing renovations in some rooms and corridors and rooms are dusty, even the coat hangers have lot of dust in them. Cleaner ladies doing their best but cant help it if house renovating brings dust around. Even after small disappointments this is nice and cozy hotel, maybe need some change in management or new guidelines to make it more better for customers.
Perfect Solution For Holiday Stay”
My wife brought her mother to Chiang Mai to enjoy the Loy Krathong festival there for the first time. We needed 2 rooms near the parade route. I was hesitant to book this hotel because of some of the reviews. In the end, the location and the price won out. I was not disappointed. The manager turned our two bookings for two rooms into one booking for a two-bedroom apartment. Each bedroom had its own facilities. And there was a kitchen / living room between the two bedrooms. Everything worked out very well. A note about the reviews. This is an older hotel, and many other reviews reflect this. The room(s) we stayed in were very spacious, especially for a hotel in a central location. And especially for the rates we paid. During the Loy Krathong festival, other hotels charged double or triple their normal rates. This older hotel stuck with older rates. It is with that perspective - that we got way more than we expected - that I rate this property so highly. And yes, I would gladly book this hotel again
Old style hotel with large rooms, under renovation”
I have stayed at the Prince a number of times over the last 30 years and always return for the personal service, big rooms, great view (from top floor), fantastic location, memories from days gone by, and you can't beat the price (unless you like sleeping in a broom closet).
Good location, nice room but quite old”
This hotel located near many tourist attraction points (in a walkable distance). Staffs seem to be working here for a long time; a bit old and know their job well since this hotel is quite old. Room is old-fashion but clean, and compare to other hotel around this price it's really worthy.
We stayed here for 18 very pleasant days. The hotel sits a few bocks away from the old city but an easy walk to there or the night market. Will stay again.
Dope spot. Old timey feel”
Big room balcony
More expensive second night?”
We paid 749Bath for the first night with agoda which is anoff for a smelly room... but still we decide to take another night (I said that I would put it on my credit card thinking that it was the same price as we paid the first night) but when I went to rent a scooter they were charging me 880 + 17% tax or something like that which was previously included in the 749bath with agoda. And they wanted to charge us 200 bath to keep a bag during the time we would have take the scooter, exept if we would have book another night with them... (we already had two! And we could not because the flight was at night). So I said that it was not making anysense... because they didnt tell us it would be more for the room when I said I would take another night... surprise! The manager said he could do a discount for 850bath.. No.. we paid 749.. thats what we will pay...and I said no for the scooter... I went to a much nicer place where she keeped luggages for free (happydaysrental, I recommand so far).
The room was very old, smelly and worn down. The bathtub was cracking and chucks falling of. Mirror was very dirty from water splashes not cleaned before getting the room. The water heater was broke.
Water heater doen't work.
Nice old style hotel.”
It is in renewing time, but still the rooms are big, good tv Chanel with movies, clean swimming pool.
stay here every time in Chiang Mai.”
miss the prince💔 awesome pool, near market, 15 mins Sunday night market, comfy beds... what more can i ask for?
newly renovated room ”
the room I got was nice and clean and new. the pool is kinda old but still very usable and welcome. very limited English tv selection. friendly staff.
tired old hotel. my laundry disappeared ”
currently undergoing renovation, very noisy from 7am until about 6pm. the pool is nice, but lots of long hair in the water each day. room is decent. staff were really friendly. I paid 90 thb to wash 1x t-shirt and 2 shorts. the new shorts and t-shirt went missing. no refund. so if I add the replacement cost of the t-shirt and shorts I bought in Australia.......... not worth it. for this reason I wouldn't recommend.
Nice, clean, and serene. You can rent a motorcycle here and take advantage of the pool and pagoda. Nothing high-tech but you have access to wi-fi good enough to watch youtube on and some of the rooms come with newer TV sets. The staff have fulfilled every request in a timely fashion and seem like good people in general. The price is well worth it for the service and location, which is within walking distance of Tha Pae Gate.
