We stayed in the one bedroom suite for the first night. The suite was located on the building extension. Room was big. On the second night, we requested for a change to the main building. Staff accommodated our request and gave us an estate room. The decor was vintage and beautiful. Location was convenient too.
Location is good
Centrally located, good service”
Easily accessible to the main street, shops and tourist centre. Parking spaces available. The lady who checked me in was friendly, proactive and profession. Check in was quick. She showed me our rooms in the annex building. Access to the annex building was under construction, quite dull and damp - just like a backyard. Not sure the hot pool was spring pool or just hot water.Dinner at the restaurant was very bad.
The hotel was very beautiful and cosy. It's like a home away from home. And with the fireplace in the lobby and the dining area makes the hotel even feel like home. It was just the hotel staff that were quite unfriendly towards us, even upon check in. One of the staff even managed not to tell us about our tour pick up, that we missed our pick up 3 times. Fortunately we were able to book the tour at the later hour, and thus it was not cancelled.
I was visiting Rotorua with a motorcycle buddy. We stayed in a two bedroom suite located right next to the hot pools. The quality of the furnishings, lovely artwork on the walls and the generally very high standard of accommodation ensured a thoroughly enjoyable stay.
Great location. ”
Overall we were very pleased with the hotel however when we reported a problem with the hot water in the shower our concerns were dismissed by senior management in a somewhat contemptuous manner. The purpose for reporting the problem was to inform management so that they could investigate and correct if necessary. We were left wondering why we bothered. No apology was forthcoming.
Great piece of NZ history ”
Very pleasant stay in a great piece of NZ history. From the moment we walked in the door the ambience was apparent. Room was small but had everything we needed for a night's stay, bathroom was similarly equipped. Bar was a delightful hide away and while we did not sample the restaurants they looked exquisite and in keeping with the period the hotel aims to maintain. The only issue was on check out ... the entire hotel was locked / desk closed until 0630 - we had to come down the outside stairs from the 1st floor to get to the front door then wake the duty manager to get inside. So ..... while a fabulous stay advise travellers to let them know well in advance of an early check out. I would certainly stay there again - close to the park and spas, close to the town centre and all it has to offer, fabulous gas fires in the lounge / drawing room.
This fine establishment is superb.”
This hotel is a grand monument to what living would have been possibly like in the good old days, when service, decorum and style meant so much, sadly a rarity nowadays and thus difficult to find. The dinner and show, replete with delightful repasts and most entertaining performers, were a delight and, coupled with the beautiful accommodation, were the only reasons why we took time to go back to Rotorua. We did not rue the enrgies, efforts and considerable monies expended.
Very vintage feel”
Lovely room and literally a block away from the I site bus and tourism station. Also a short walk to the Polynesian spa. There is no elevator so if you have a lot of luggage you may want to ask for a ground floor room. Staff was very friendly.
Good Boutique Hotel with very helpful staff”
Good Boutique hotel with classic old style, the interior is beautiful decorated. The Restaurant in the hotel serves good food. All the amenities were good and hotel staff was extremely nice. The hotel is near to Government Park which is nice sightseeing area
Loved this Hotel”
Clean large rooms and close to everything would definitely stay again
Wonderful place to stay”
A hotel with character - the main building nice and old-fashioned in the public areas. We stayed in the annex - 2-bedroom suite - very nice indeed with comfortable beds and lounge area, very nice bathroom and good kitchen facilities. They have a hot pool outside but it was winter and we were wimps! The bar closed early which was a shame - bring your own and enjoy your suite! The town and 'Eat Street' are within a few minutes walk so a very good location. I would certainly stay there again.
Great stay ”
Overall we had a great stay and even got a bonus upgrade to a suite! A few noises from the level above with creaking floorboards and people in the spa late but not the hotels fault. Great location, it’s in the middle of an upgrade so the few bits that need improvement are being re-done and having maintenance.
Loved our stay!”
We stayed for a night during our honeymoon. The hotel is charming and the staff are thoughtful and professional. The location is a perfect base for exploring Rotarua. The only knock is the water pressure in our shower—it was pretty weak. Otherwise, top notch!
Fine Stay for Families ”
This hotel is really close to public transport and many of the common places that people visit (such as Polynesian Spa), making it easy for us to get around Rotorua. The staff were also very helpful and were able to resolve all of our enquiries.
Nice/new place. Clean, roomy. Plenty of wifi. No a/c. Near the highway. I'd stay again!!!”
Very clean/new. Plenty of towels. Large living room with private bedroom. My only issues were that it had no a/c. (Luckily, it was a cool evening.) Our room was right next to the main highway. We had a lot of noise during the day, but wore earplugs during the night. Ask for a room away from the road and you'll be ok. It was just a very short walk (on a slight hill) to a grocery and the main drag. Maybe 5-10 minutes. I would definitely stay again.
Great hotel in fab location”
We had a fab stay. Staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The hotel itself is quite beautiful. We didn't get to stay in the Victorian building but our room was still very good with many extras to help make our stay comfortable. The beds were the best!!!
Quaint historic hotel”
The hotel is old as can be seen by the furnishings but I found the bed to be quite comfortable. The bathrooms are in need of an update and a refill of simple amenities such as soap given we stayed 3 nts would have been nice. We didn’t use the facilities or the restaurant so no comment on that but it’s nice to know it’s there and available. Street parking and on-site was also easy. Walking distance to Kairua Park and footpaths.
Charming boutique hotel”
Like the old feel of the room and the hotel. Very professional and friendly front office and lovely restaurant on-site. The standard room was a bit small to my liking, anyway most of the time in Rotorua you spend outdoors either sightseeing, adventure seeking, eating our or relaxing in the hot springs! Hope to come back with my family in a few years.
Charming suite, in-house hot pools are a bonus!”
Booked a 2 night stay here - the suite has maintained many turn-of-the-century details but doesn't feel dated. The in-house geothermal pools are a bonus, and you won't have to make a trip to the spas! It's centrally located, but just off the busy restaurant strip, if you're looking for a quiet but well-located part of town. The lounge area of the suite has air-conditioning put in, but not the bedroom, which wasn't a problem as the nights we were in Rotorua were relatively cool.
