This stay made me realize I'm getting old”
Before I say anything I want to be clear that this review is coming from a curmudgeonly 34 year old who values privacy and quiet very much. In all fairness to the hotel, it is a cool spot and exactly what is advertised, and if it's your kind of thing you'll probably have a great stay. I mostly want to leave my experience here for other people like me who are thinking of booking. I think the experience you have VASTLY depends on a lot of factors: who your roommates are, where in the building your room is, etc. I was in the 6 person female dorm. For the first couple of nights I had roommates who were having pretty loud and long conversations in the middle of the room, for the last couple of nights everyone was in their pod by 8pm quiet as a mouse. Completely depends, but I found the unpredictability hard to live with even in the short term. The live music downstairs is really cool, but unfortunately you can hear the bass vibrating the floor if you happen to be right above it, which my room was. Some nights were okay, one night there was a VERY loud band playing that made it hard to sleep. Again, one of those things that depends on the night and your preferences. The "mattress" in the pod was essentially like sleeping on the floor, thin and hard as a rock. For someone with chronic pain, this part kind of sucked, but they do offer nice bedding and overall they are nice little pods. And yes, the stairs are a real pain - they are STEEP and one tight spiral. Thankfully the woman at the front desk helped me carry my bags upstairs or my disabled self would have been screwed. As for the good stuff, the staff was very friendly in the brief interactions I had with them, the vibe and theming of the hotel is really fun, and I love the attention to detail like making the key cards VIP passes. Feels a bit like living in a museum. The bathrooms in the rooms are a nice touch, and everything is kept super clean. The events downstairs seemed like fun and I wish I wasn't working all week, because I would have liked to check one out. Maybe someday I'll come back to stay in one of the private rooms and really enjoy the experience.
Muito bom”
The Good: Friendly staff: The staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. They were always happy to answer questions and made me feel safe as a solo traveler. Cleanliness: The capsule and shared bathroom facilities were spotless. This is a huge plus in any hostel, and Music City definitely gets an A+ for hygiene. Lively atmosphere: The nightly band shows downstairs were a blast. It added a fun, energetic vibe to the hotel and gave me a chance to mingle with other guests. Essentials covered: Everything I needed was provided: comfortable beds, a good shower, reliable wifi. The Not-So-Good: Location: The area surrounding the hotel can be a bit sketchy, especially at night. It's also not super close to BART or major tourist attractions, so you'll need to be comfortable navigating public transportation or walking a bit. This is definitely not a hotel for first-time San Francisco visitors. No hairdryer: This was a minor annoyance, but if you're used to having a hairdryer at your disposal, this is something to keep in mind. Overall: Music City Hotel is a solid choice for budget-conscious solo travelers who are comfortable with a bit of grit and appreciate a unique, lively atmosphere. If you're familiar with the city and don't mind a bit of a walk to get to attractions, you'll likely enjoy your stay. However, if you're looking for a luxurious, centrally located hotel, this might not be the best fit.
The BEST hostel I've ever stayed in”
This hotel is really passionate about the city's music scene, and it shows. It's almost too good to be true. They play great music in the hallways all day and night. Also, you get free fruit in the morning, and tea or coffee any time. The staff, like Jasmine, and Tim (?) A guy from the East Coast who worked in the evening when I was there, are very friendly and helpful. They made my stay much better! Love u guys! Also Angelica and Kimberly, are good! There was only one big male staff that's not welcoming and a bit rude. But I think we can ignore that part :) Blandina's hotel tour is free and really fun. You'll like staying here and you don't want to miss her hotel tour. Blandina, very energetic!! The rooms are very clean. They change the towels almost every day. The bathrooms are clean during the day, but at night they get a bit messy because some guests don't use them properly. The capsule bed is cool, but it only has a USB port and no regular power outlet. This was a small issue, but overall, I had a great time at this hotel.
Nice weekend trip”
I visited for 3 nights and had a great experience. Shared spaces were kept clean, and the beds were private and I liked the capsule style. Indoor temperature was always comfortable, the staff was friendly, and cleanliness was excellent for a hostel. I never had to wait for a shared bathroom to be available. This is the third hostel I've stayed at, and it was my best experience at a hostel. The other guests were pretty reserved, but I didn't mind that for this trip. The location is well connected to several MUNI buses, particularly if going to downtown or the mission. The area is safe with various bars and dining options (including late night options).
