This resort is beautiful, quiet, and just stunning all around! Tonsai Beach is a quiet solitude! The resort is surrounded by beautiful rock walls, and right on the beach! Rooms and bathroom were very clean! AC worked wonders! Beds were very comfy :) Overall great place :) would definitely stay again!
Wish we’d stayed at Railey Beach”
After a lot of research we really didn’t know whether to stay on Railey beach or Ton Sai but thought we’d stay Ton Sai given some reviews that’s it’s quieter less touristy we like that vibe. But this place is something else! When we went early May, low season there was nothing on the island just a dirty beach, one bar and the hotel restaurant. The boat docks over at Railey and the only way to get there during high tide is by boat which cost 300 baht then when we arrived there is no ATM so we had to go back over this time we tried walking around the mountain which is a bit of an effort up uneven rocks and off a cliff top and through the jungle it doesn’t take long about 20/25 mins it’s just not very safe. The we paid another 300 baht to get the boat back to Ton Sai. Railey looks beautiful we will be back to stay there for sure. We are not rock climbers I can imagine if you are only there to climb this is ideal for you but it wasn’t for us. Also the food is not great for the money. Breakfast option is a small fruit platter, / pieces of white toast eggs and some dodgy looking ham.
limited breakfast, nice staff”
We were staying here during the off season when there was no electricity during the daylight. The breakfast was a bit disappointing. Tonsai is a hippi area with all the guys who are enjoying the life with some questionable drugs.
Secluded and tranquil resort right on the beach.”
Loved this place and would HIGHLY recommend. It was so amazingly quiet; not something you get often when right on the beach. There are bars and other restaurants only a short walk away. You can also get to the more happening Railay via a 20 minute walk.
Nice place. Nice location. Nice staff”
The place is great : cool ambiance, great food at the restaurant (globally) and excellent cocktails at the Freedom Bar ! Staff very friendly and helpful. The beach is very nice close to the big cliffs, better than Railey for me (too much people on Railey.) I tried a superior room and a villa. All was nice. Breakfast was correct. Little shops near the restaurant and the beach (laundry, mini mark, rock climbing shop) Easy access to the "main village" Only bad point : the bathroom in the room was very badly designed
Tonsai Bay Resort is a niche hotel but worth it!!!”
Tonsai Bay Resort has grown up in the past few years. We have been staying here for many years now, and this year was also very good. There are some weird things now though. There is a huge wall that blocks off the resort from the rest of Tonsai Bay. You will have to use a key card to go up to the hillside section and restaurants (Mama's Chicken Kitchen). There seems to be a divide between Tonsai Bay Resort, the new resort being developed, and the community that is Tonsai Bay. Of course in low season there is no electricity in the rooms between 9am and 5pm. We stayed in the deluxe bungalow as usual, and the staff is always warm and welcoming to us because we have stayed here for so many years. Breakfast is kind of limited if you don't eat meat or eggs.
Amazing location next to the quiet beach where you can enjoy swimming, climbing or kayaking. Busy Raily beach is just 10 Min away through passage when tide is low. We discovered many good places to eat like Mama Chilen in the Tonsai village. Tonsay bay is Not overcrowded with tourist which is very good. The room was clean and the staff was friendly. Definitely I would chose this hotel again.
Good choice in Tonsai”
Tonsai Bay Resort was the right option for us for our week long stay in Tonsai. As much as I don’t love the wall that surrounds the resort (and the upcoming development in Tonsai), it was very nice to have 24 hours electricity, AC, mini fridge and a TV with English movies. Everything worked well but the bungalow is looking a little tired and could use an update. Breakfast buffet was pretty good with eggs cooked to order, lots of vegetables and fruit, yogurt, cereal and choices of varying hot items: pancakes or french toasts, fried rice, pad Thai, pad see ew, curry, some meat. WiFi was strong.
Tonsai Bay Resort lives up to its' pictures. We were in a room in the main building and overlooked the palm grove which we saw monkeys frolicking in a few times. Room, building, and grounds were kept clean and tidy. Breakfast buffet was okay - not outstanding, but not bad either. There were a few shops within the resort area which made things convenient - beach bar, wash (laundry), extra water, massage, rock climbing, and at the top back of the resort you could get to the village which had other restaurants, shops, and a few food carts. Tonsai Beach area is laid back, quiet, and basic. If you are expecting high-end, Railay might be more your choice, but Tonsai was perfect for us and the resort exceeded our expectations.
Tonsai Bay is not for everyone...”
But it is absolutely PERFECT for us!!! This is our 4th stay at Tonsai Bay Resort. Although many changes have happened since our 1st stay. We rented the deluxe bungalow which has had a few upgrades. The bathroom is better and now wi-fi is available, It is worth mentioning that there is no electricity in the rooms between 9:30 and 5 pm. This did not effect us much at all and we have come to expect it. Breakfast was good, and the staff is very accommodating. Crossing over to Railay in the front or the back can be challenging, and the Mama's Chicken kitchen up the hill from Tonsai Bay Resort is AMAZING!!!
A great escape ”
I stayed 10 nights at Ton Sai Resort as an escape from a overly busy life. It's remote and quiet. Very quiet. The beach was not as nice as I imagined and there are no deck chairs or loungers. Between May and September it is super quiet with few restaurants and shops open in the area. I would stay again. It's biggest draw back is how hard it is to get there. Backpackers tend to walk in, I paid another $60USD to have a private transfer. (Unfortunately they forgot to pick me up - be wary of booking that through Agoda.) However the transfer when it worked was super convenient.
At first, we were quite worried as we couldn't find the resort at Railay west, after contacting the hotel manager, who was very helpful to give us direction, we finally reached Tonsai Bay after enduring a 15-minutes jungle trekking to cross the rock, hence only then we understand why this resort is mainly for rock climbers... (When the tide is low, can actually skip the jungle trekking by going along the beach) Because of its location, it is a hidden gem, not many crowd over there as if the place is totally private. The restaurant at Tonsai Bay (there is only one there) surprisingly provides delicious food. Staffs were very helpful, they even provide transportation to the end of the beach for us to take long tail boat to Ao Nang beach. Room has all that are needed. Overall this is a good place to stay is you can endure short duration of jungle trekking to reach there. We would definitely come back here!
Great location for rock climbing and peace”
We love Tonsai Bay for it's proximity to great rock climbing and the fact that is isn't filled with tourists. Tonsai Bay Resort is well located and well priced for the size of the rooms. Lots of mosquitos this time of year so be prepared!
LOVED hearing the gibbons singing in the morning!”
My husband and I came to Tonsai for five days to climb and stayed at Tonsai Bay Resort. The rooms are simple, but very nice and very clean and all closed up. The location is awesome; everything in Tonsai is close, but these villas are among the first off the beach, which is nice because the further you get into the jungle on the Tonsai side, the more things start to smell of feces. The restaurant and breakfast were fine, though nothing special compared to other parts of Thailand we visited. This spot is really great for folks who want to stay on the Tonsai side of the peninsula but a) don't feel like having to trek around looking for a place to stay; b) want a slightly higher-end, more comfortable accommodation than the "dirtbagger" spots that dominate this side. The "front desk" staff were a mixed bag - there was a young woman who was helpful and sort of friendly and a man who was downright surly; the restaurant and room staff were all great and super friendly.
nice view of sunset when having dinnet at the hotel's restaurant. food are good and price is reasonable. it was good to watch mokeys around, outside our room, watching us having breakfast. overall, the resort is good value of money.
Great holiday at a lovely place”
Had an excellent time at Tonsai Bay Resort. It is located at Tonsai Bay which for us was a nice place to stay at than Railway. Low key, chilled out crowd, no package tours. Beach is lovely and beautiful, very scenic place to view sunset. We'd surely visit again.
Tonsai is AMAZING!!!!”
This was our 2nd trip to Tonsai Bay Resort. The staff is helpful and friendly, the room is very clean and quite large. The bathroom has trouble with hot water in the sink or shower, but that was fine... The restaurant is quite good with many delicious selections including breakfast. What was not acceptable at all was the public restrooms behind the restaurant. These were horrific to say the least. They are obviously public but I was forced to trek back to our bungalow rather than using this fiasco of an outhouse.
FOR CLIMBING MOUNTAIN RESORT”
Tonsai resort is suitable for the tourist that prefer hiking the mountain and the peace because it's far from night club, can stay for a long time because there are many cheap resort on the Tonsai beach.
Great price for hotel”
It was great, there where monkey's all over next to large Rock climbing area, near beach. Was very happy with this hotel. I had to say best hotel on beach as this was the only one i found that was perfect for me, air con and lights 24 7, others close during the day..
