Great location, Great service, Great room!”
i stayed in grand mercure zhongya for 6 nights (18.12 - 24.12) with 5 other friends for our grad holiday. i'll be honest - i paid per night for an executive suite, and at first i thought it was a scam. i was pleasantly surprised to find that this hotel was actually a decent 5-star hotel with excellent service, great location (the subway entrance is 20 metres to the left of the hotel entrance, and the shanghai railway station is about 150m away - great if you want to visit neighbouring towns such as suzhou) and great food. one recommendation i have for future travellers is to book rooms on the executive levels (either the room or suite) which costs marginally more, but the perks are so worth it. the included breakfast is amazing (lots of range - continental, dumplings, crossaints, cereal, fresh juices/fruits) and access to the executive club lounge (unlimited access to drinks, snack foods, etc) really makes the extra per night worth it. my friends and i liked the hotel so much we were tempted not to leave the hotel for most of the day. although the hotel itself isn't near the bund or the "centre" of shanghai, accessibility is very easy as long as you are willing to take public transport (the subway - rmb3 one way) or taxi (approx rmb40 to people's park/xintiandi, rmb70 to jin mao tower). definitely staying here again on my next trip to shanghai. p.s. just make sure you wait for the super specials on agoda before you book the room to make it more worth it!

Good hotel”
we mainly chose this hotel because it was near the railway station as we wanted to visit other places outside of shanghai. the hotel was very good. we booked an executive suite, which if you get a good deal is well worth the upgrade. the room was large with separate bath/shower (and a very very good shower it is too!) beds are extremely comfortable - not even a hint of 'chinese hardness'. for us, a good nights sleep and a nice shower to wake up to sums up a good hotel! as with many larger chain hotels, service was impersonal but efficient. we ate breakfast in the club lounge every morning which had a choice of about 5 hot dishes with your normal buffet continental items. you could chose to eat in the main restaurant too (which we didnt) but i'm guessing that would have more choice, but the club lounge was quiet. their 'happy hour' is between 5.30-7.30pm every night, which was free beer/wine/soft drinks and a selection of appetizers, breads, side salads and good desserts. you could quite easily fill up here and miss dinner if wanted. i would be happy to stay at other grand mercure properties, but wouldn't necessarily stay here again only because there are so many other hotels to choose from in shanghai, and would like to stay nearer the bund.

Awesome! Love it & will definitely return again!”
First time in shanghai and frankly I'm quite picky about accommodation. I read the good reviews and booked this hotel. Everything is up to my expectation and it was really good! Very comfortable stay! The bed is very soft and there's a variety of pillows to choose from. The shower is good too and the room is faultless. I stayed on level 17 with a city view. The staff is friendly and on the first day, I realised I've booked the wrong date (arrived one day in advance) and had to make another booking on the spot. He offered me to rest in my room first and book again online avian on agoda at my convenience (it's more expensive to book directly via the counter) Location is strategically next to Shanghai railway station and 30 seconds away via exit B from the station. I could also easily travel to Hangzhou via another high speed rail station nearby. My package didn't include breakfast but there are restaurants and convenient stores nearby. Will definitely stay here again if I do return to Shanghai!

Comfortable Stay At A Perfect Price”
Our family of 4 returned for a 1 night stay at Grand Mercure Shanghai Zhongya Hotel on the 11th of August 2013. We booked 2 rooms and the room rates included breakfast. Arrived in Shanghai Hongqiao Railway station via the Maglev train and took the subway to the hotel. Journey took about 1.5 hours but fares were cheap and we did not want to be caught in the rush hour traffic on the roads. Everything from check in to check out was smooth. As in our recent review, our stay was extremely pleasant. Concierge arranged for a comfortable SUV metered taxi from hotel entrance to Pudong airport which cost about CNY200. We had quite a bit of luggage due to our shopping in Shanghai so one can actually save some money by using normal taxis. We enjoyed our holiday in Shanghai and Grand Mercure Shanghai Zhongya exceeded our expectations.

Hotel Review”
Wonderful. The hotel actually made my Shanghai trip much better. Conveniently located next to underground trainsan the Shanghai Great Railway Station. The room is practical, sunken safe deposit box, hot water showers, well regulated room temperature even when you are out. The staff has no hesitation in using English unlike othe hotels. They are extremely helpful and friendly. My room is just of the right size, not too small. And at the price I paid, it is excellent value. They allowed me to check in at 8am when I arrived and, without hesitation, allowed me to checke out late. Best hotel practice that made my stay much more wonderful and out-perform other hotels. The hotel ambience is nice, cool dim and quiet. The concierge is ever helpful. Even when I didn't ask, he asked me whether he can be of help, in English. The water for bathing is hot and I needed that when it is winter and cold. Rain shower is good instea of long bath. When we went out and took the room card, the heating was still on such that when we return, the room is still warm, wonderful. Thank you to this hotel for a wonderful stay!!! I have already recommended it to my friends.

Loved the Grand Mercure”
Convenience is principally why I picked the Grand Mercure, since I wanted to be close to the Shanghai Railway Station. It is literally on its doorstep. However I was extremely pleased with the overall experience. The room was extremely comfortable, clean and overall the hotel permeates a air of distinction and class. True, the staff's English could be improved, but they were all extremely courteous, cheerful and smiling! Take Exit #5 from the Shanghai Railway Station subway, turn right, and the hotel's entrance is right there. Too easy. Starbucks and other stores are right around the corner too. WiFi was free and worked fine for checking emails and making random searches. Breakfast costs a whopping 136 Yuan, comparable to most 4-5* hotels in Shanghai so I opted out, and therefore can't comment on whether it's worth it or not.

An all-around great hotel experience!”
I actually stayed in this hotel twice in a three week period and was treated like an honoured guest both times. In fact on arrival of my second stay I was warmly welcomed back by both concierge and front desk staff and treated to an upgrade! Because the hotel is fairly new the rooms are in above average condition; very well appointed, great bathrooms and invitingly comfortable beds! My rooms also had windows that open which is a huge positive to me. The location of the hotel is close to the main railway station with a Line 1 subway stop literally right next door to the main entry of the hotel. The cost was surprisingly reasonable by Shanghai standards and provided huge per dollar value. My new favorite Shanghai hotel: I will definitely be back!

Very good as always”
I stay in the Grand Mercure very often and it is my choice for hotel in Shanghai, mainly because of the location, next to the train station and on top of a metro. The down side is that it is a little farther away from some of the livelier areas that you may want to visit, but the taxis all know the train station so there is little confusion. Check in was smooth as always, but i noticed a girl who was being trained at the same time, which wasn't a bother, but she was left pretty much alone to check me out a few days later and messed up the bill, not her fault she should have been more closely supervised. The room size is very good, though the classic is a little small and some rooms don't have windows, so i don't think they should be selling those at all if the consider themselves a 5 star hotel, but we were given an upgrade, so mustn't grumble. The room comfort is excellent and it has everything you could wish for, housekeeping have obviously worked hard. I haven't tried the spa or gym so cant comment but breakfasts are very nice. The only downside i would have is getting a taxi, depending on who is working it seems service can differ. With 3 doormen standing outside at one stage none of them wanted to help us to get a taxi, again with 5 star rating comes 5 star expectations. though on previous attempts i have seen one doorman go the extra mile to ensure we got a taxi in the cold and wet. So i suppose it depends on who is working. Finally, they seemed to have increased their prices on Agoda, there was a sudden jump in price of about 20 per cent on average a few months ago, but nothing has changed in the hotel. This has left me looking at other hotels a bit more closely when booking now. Even though it looks like a negative review, it is only a couple of staff issues that i feel need bringing up.

Staycation in the midst of Bustling Shanghai”
Had a great time staying in one of the executive suites of the hotel. Room is very spacious and sleek clean. Got the view I requested (overlooking the Shanghai Main Railway Station which is more quiet side of the hotel) Location wise, from shanghai main railway station metro, take Exit 5, turn right after exit and hotel entrance is just right smack at the corner. The happy hour spread is good, we had meatballs, smoked salmon and garden salad. Beer and liquor is also served during happy hour. :) Breakfast is above average hotel standard although not a 5-star standards. For the price we paid, it is all worth it.

Solid choice in Shanghai - close to transport and quiet”
I really like this hotel. It is a dark, quiet reprieve from the business of Shanghai. My room was small but perfectly formed. If you were staying with someone else and you both had a suitcase with you, it would be tight. I think the room type I had was the smallest, but it suited me very well. I was travelling by myself and the area around the railway station is not the best. Take care and use a taxi if you are a woman by yourself at night. I travelled all around Shanghai on the subway during the day and it was perfectly fine. Check out the International Eyewear City, a ten minute walk from the hotel and more glasses than you can imagine in one place. I had a pair made with super thin lenses for $40 AUD and it took around 15 minutes. Special mention about the dinner buffet in the hotel. On Mondays and Thursdays women eat for half price (99RMB). This includes beer! Great value!

Five Star Value at a 3 Star Price”
there are very few downsides about this hotel at all. the location is perhaps not right in the main city centre but it is next to the shanghai railway station and cabs in shanghai are cheap so even the location isn't really a downside. i thought everything about the room and its facilities, the look and feel of all the public areas of the hotel and the free wireless internet made it seem like a serious 5 star hotel. we stayed on a club lounge floor which gave us access to complimentary breakfast and evening drinks which were great and a very good deal. we would definitely stay here again when next in shanghai.

Good Location, Close to Metro”
Pullman Shanghai is a nice modern hotel situated a few steps from the Shanghai train station. The rooms are clean & modernly designed however they are a bit on the small size. The bathroom though is surprisingly large with a fair sized shower. The hotel staff are friendly, courteous & helpful. Meals at the restaurant are expensive however there are ample restaurants and inexpensive places to eat in the area. I would definitely recommend staying at the Pullman as a alternative to a hotel in the downtown/Bund core. It is easily accessible to the many metro lines which will get you anywhere in Shanghai.

Great value for Room, Close to Metro”
Booked an exec suite and enjoyed my 2 night stay there. The size of the room was plentiful, and really made you feel like you were at home once you open the door. Did not try the food as it was not included as part of my package, but for me that was okay since I wanted to try the local foods in Shanghai. The hotel is situated very closeby to the Shanghai Railway Metro station which is very convenient to use and get around to different places/attractions. Staff were knowledgeable and able to communicate although there were a few mistranslations regarding 'mosquito' however this was quickly resolved. And yes the staff attained to my needs quickly. Overall a good experience and would come back again! Note. The hotel is not on the main street, it's actually enclosed inside. If you're coming out of Exit 5 - make sure to turn right (which will take you straight there), rather than turn left which takes you out to the main road!

Excellent Location, Clean & Well Maintained”
Apart from the "hostile" male concierge staff, the rest of the staff were polite and helpful. Reception were nice to allow early check-in at 10am when we reached at 8am, and made preparations to get the room ready for us. The hotel interior gave us a positive vibe the moment my wife and I walked in. It was clean and relatively posh for a 4-5 star hotel. 1 min walk to the train station (Shanghai Railway Station), literally. It offers fast access to the major shopping belts, but it may be faster to take a taxi around instead of changing trains to reach your desired stations, as Mecure is really located at a convenient locale. We only found out during our last 2 nights. Were busy squeezing into trains during the peak hours. Will definitely go back to stay if I ever visit Shanghai again.

Lovely Hotel with Excellent Location. ”
We booked an Executive Suite, which comes with a huge bathroom, wi-fi and complimentary tea from 5.30pm-7.30pm at the Club floor. The room was cosy and spacious, with a feel of luxury. We were absolutely happy with the hotel and its great location, and we were able to travel everywhere, from Nanjing Road, the Bund, to Hangzhou as the Shanghai Metro and Railway Station is practically a stone throw away. The hotel staff recommended and helped arrange a day tour for us to Suzhou. We will be happy to stay there again when we next visit Shanghai.

Great Room, shame about the noise levels!”
I loved the size of the room and the fact that the location of the hotel was very convenient! Right next to the Subway and Shanghai railway station. The size of the room was huge, it was fantastic, it had a shower and seperate bath. My first night, I stayed in the room facing the main railway station, this was very noisy as there was constant announcements made from a speaker phone til quite late in the evening. Possibly midnight. I requested that I change rooms to the other side of the building. The staff acknowledged my request without hesitation. The other side of the hotel was facing the main road, still noisy but slightly better. The windows were not double glazed or sound proofed. Overall I would have given this place 5 out of 5. But due to noise levels I would downgrade this to 4 stars

Excellent and perfect stay in Shanghai ”
Got upgraded to executive room with no charge. Thank you very much Pullman. Love the room, bed, bathroom and location. Take exit 5 from Shanghai Railway Station metro. Wifi connection is fast and stable. No password is required. You can even surf Facebook through their VPN. Staff are friendly and service is efficient. Would definitely return again.

Very nice hotel with great service”
the room was very nice and spacious, and the kingsize bed was very comfortable. we had free wifi and access to the executive lounge, and the breakfast was plentiful, varied and actually tasted quite good! there is food all around the hotel within 5 minutes' walk if you do not wish to eat in the hotel. the metro entrance/exit is literally within 100 yards of the hotel, and the shanghai railway station is also within 5 minutes' walk, from where you can travel to other parts of china. our only complaint is that the air conditioning seem to be hardwired to about 26 deg c, which was a tad uncomfortable for us. overall, a very nice hotel, which we would thoroughly recommend to anyone visiting shanghai.

Good location near the subway line ”
When I arrived at the hotel at 8.00am The hotel staff allow me to check in early so they make a efforts to get ready the room at 10.00am so I very appreciate that with no extra cost 2) it is near the subway line very convenient 3) staff are helpful and I can see that they are trying the best to assist your need in Shanghai 4) the breakfast buffets is so so but nice and number of choices 5) and beware of outside the hotel and they try to scam you / but don't worry about it those there don't dare to enter the hotel because the hotel staff will block then away so lt is safe to stay at this hotel 6) they have 7-11 / restaurant/ shopping center around the hotel 7) my room is big for exclusive suite and nice view the Shanghai railway stations
