Nice Budget Hotel”
Price, Location, Cleanliness
We spent 5 nights at this hotel during our combined business / pleasure visit to Qingdao. The hotel is not really located centrally but all attractions are reasonably easy accessible. Our taxi driver had no problems to get to the place from the airport, but some drivers may have difficulties finding it. As a hint, it is located on the edge of Zhonglian U Valley Industrial Park, a complex for small high-tech business operations. Considering the cheap price of the rooms we were pleasantly surprised about the clean rooms. They are simple but reasonably well equipped. It seems that the rooms have just been renovated recently. The only thing we found missing in the room was a refrigerator and a lock-up box. The bathroom is rather small but also very clean. Each room seems to have its own Wi-Fi repeater, surprise surprise, a feature not even found in many expensive hotels. However, Internet access is as everywhere in China somewhat limited and slow. The staff is very friendly and helpful. But be ware, without some Mandarin it is difficult to communicate. The guests at this hotel are mainly Chinese and few foreigners seem to frequent this place. There is no real restaurant within the hotel and breakfast is served at extra costs in a sort of meeting room. However, this breakfast I would not recommended for foreigners since it is really very low standard Chinese vegetarian food with little choice and variety. No tea or coffee is served. But there is an really excellent restaurant about 200 Meters from the hotel that serves a wide variety of local delicacies. Their specality, the hand made Wonton is a must! We have been pleasantly surprised by this hotel, it was better and most importantly cleaner than we expected for the price. My wife being able to speak Chinese definitely helped matters. Don't expect western standards, this is a clean and friendly Chinese budget hotel and we would be happy to come back again.

Good location, Fast internet”
Good location, Fast internet, Quite clean
The room was relatively clean for Chinese standards. Reception didn't really speak English, but they were helpful. After we complained about our first room, which was very dirty, they immediately gave us a new one with upgrade for free. Internet in our room was surprisingly fast. Probably no non-smoking rooms in this hotel.

A condomium styled hotel”
large room, quietness and budget price
I tried getting a cab from the Catholic Church, but none seems to know the place, even though the cab driver read the address many times. And finally the one who fetched me appeared not knowing the way. On arrival at the hotel, the cab was stopped at a barrier gate by a guard. When asked, he also said that the said hotel seen on higher grounds is not there. But the cab driver insisted that it was there as shown on the signage beside the building. I asked why the cab could not enter, as it would be difficult for me to lug my luggage along the slope up to the hotel. The security guard did not answer and just glared at me. So I had to take my luggage and lugged my way to the hotel. Luckily mine was a small luggage otherwise it would be hard work! The hotel is manned by two innocent-looking receptionists and checked me as quickly as I entered and I went to the room. The first impression was good as it was a large room. Everything in the room was working and it was liveable. That night, I had a good sleep as the location is one where it is very quiet. When I asked the receptionist the location of Zhongshan Park, he told me that it was working distance and there was no need to take public transport. When I asked him how to get to Taidong area, he told me to take Bus No: 36. Quite well informed, I was able to make my stay here pleasant and satisfying. But the sore point was still the security guard who refused entry to the cab, fetching me home three more times. I asked the receptionist and another staff, they told me that the cab could come in. How now?

Super cheap, budget hotel”
Super cheap, slightly cleaner than a hostel, no traffic noise
Super cheap hotel that was a but cleaner than the average hostel (but not by much). Close to the fish and bird market as well as the night market. Staff was pretty average.

A bit dirty but cheap and decent locale”
Cheap, decent location, cheap
Stayed in the economy with window as an alternative to a hostel. Relative to the hostels we had been staying at around China this was a nice "upgrade" with the private bathroom and towels. But the walls were pretty dirty with the bodies of former mosquitoes smeared along the walls. Also quite a bit of mold and mildew was growing in th bathroom. Regardless, it was super CHEAP. Some of the staff were helpful while others seemed more interested in their own business than actually helping (this seemed to be the manager actually, but not certain).

Not too bad”
Clean. Value for money. Location.
Location: Only if you're able to conquer slopes easily, I say this is a great place to stay. Service: The ladies are generally very helpful. The men were terrible! I speak Mandarin so I think it helps, so I'm not sure how's their command of English. I wanted to enquire about the airport transfer back and would like to find out about the airport shuttle, the men counter staff simply shrugged me off and told me to find it out myself cos' they do not know. "Beautiful". Airport Transfer: I took Airport Bus 701 from the airport. Tell the driver that you're heading for "Shangqing Lu" and you'll have to stop 1-2 stops before the last stop and grab a cab off the road. To be sure, just lookout for "Shangri La Hotel" on the right and you should stop almost right after in case the driver can't help you out. It costs RMB20 per pax for the bus and RMB10 for the taxi ride from where you're supposed to stop. I took a taxi straight to the Airport on the way back and it costs RMB100. How to get around: Our hotel is called "青岛明宇精品酒店 Qingdao Mingyu Jiu Dian" and not Qingdao My Hotel. Tell the driver is located at "上清路 Shangqing Lu" and " 驼峰路 Tuo Feng Lu" . If the driver is still clueless, tell them it's located at the back of "中山公园 Zhongshan GongYuan" and that should be nearer to navigate around. Look out for a big red sign and a chunky silver gate once you're on Tuo Feng Lu, and stop right outside the gate. The hotel is behind, adjacent to Motel 158. It's located within Zhonglian U Valley 2.5 Industrial Park.
