Location and good service”
As with most mid-range hotel rooms in Amsterdam, space comes at a premium and Golden Bear is no exception. The double room of 16 sq m will pose a challenge for 2 big luggage. Other than the room size, it was a good stay. The tram stops close to the hotel and reception service from the Indonesian lass was friendly and helpful. Gets my recommendation.

Bad Hotel ”
I had booked a room which failed to mention there won't be a bathroom and I ended up paying 20 EUR extra just to land a room with a bathroom. Initially I was told taxis could not be arranged but their brochure stated otherwise. Upon pointing that out a taxi was arranged eventually. The stairs are very steep and it's a challenge taking your luggage up. I would not recommend this place to couples or families. For solo travelers go only if you have no other option. The only good thing about this hotel is its location.

Great location”
This hotel is close to everything within walking distance. We parked our car in the Amsterdam arena and took the metro into the city. Shops, restaurant, bars are right outside the hotel and still quiet at night. Only the carpet inside the room needs changing asap but other then that def worth the money. :)

Good”
The hotel has a great location and the room was nice enough however it was a bit hot, no AC available and the stairs were pretty complicated as they are too narrow and we had significant luggage with us.

Simply awful”
There were complications as I came with my Mum and only knew about the steep stairs they have once we got there. Mind you, my Mum has leg injuries and they barely want to consider as I requested for a room on the ground floor which requires no stairs. It took them a long while to negotiate with the other staff and I told them that I'd just find another hotel but the receptionist at the counter went all "I'll try to fix it for you" looking all annoyed. (Is that how you treat your customers? Please take customer service class). They didn't want to do refund either and I wasn't happy with how they deducted 169 Euro upon booking made few days before and told it's the card authorization. I've stayed at so many hotels and put the card number to secure but they have never deducted but rather block the amount. I even asked for them to write a statement for my bank but they didn't. and also didn't give any receipt when I paid 427 euro on the day I checked in. It's simply awful and I am truly upset with how it went. It is highly not recommended.

Shabby, decrepit, and rude service.”
Upon check in, we were greeted by the rudest person imaginable who actually rolled her eyes at us for asking questions. The room was absolutely filthy and there were stains all over the walls and furniture, as well as mold in the shower. I had sent an email asking for a lower floor due to accessibility issues. When inquiring, I was laughed at by the front desk agent. Horribly disappointing. DO NOT STAY HERE UNLESS YOU ARE A MASOCHIST AND ENJOY BEING RIPPED OFF AND BEING MADE FUN OF WHILE SPENDING $160 EUROS A NIGHT!

Prices hiked over weekend and no bathroom in room”
Nice staff, friendly guy from the UK during day - very helpful. Just the prices double on weekends and you don't even have a bathroom. Breakfast is basic. Mostly clean and OK for a nights stay.
