luxurious, but way off the main drag”
i have nothing but good things to say about my room at raffles le royal hotel. it was plenty spacious with nice hardwood floors, a bathroom with shower and bathtub, free wi-fi, a wonderful balcony, and a bed that is perhaps the most comfortable i've ever slept in - not too firm, not too soft, just perfect. i was absolutely as comfortable as i could be while staying in this room. the restaurants and bars on site were, i suppose, expensive for cambodia, but their prices were perfectly reasonable (actually quite cheap) compared to similar 5-star hotel restaurants and bars in most other countries. i visited the elephant bar expecting an experience more like the raffles long bar in singapore - nothing quite that distinctive, but a pleasant experience nonetheless. the staff were extremely kind and beyond attentive. i would actually go so far as to say that the service was too good for my taste. every time you turn around, there is someone wanting to do something for you. i'm just the kind of person who is very comfortable with that (thank you, but i really can pull my own small suitcase 5 meters). they also kept supplying my room with apples. i usually ate one each morning and gave the other to my tuk tuk drivers as tips. they seemed to really appreciate that. i really did enjoy my stay at le royal immensely, but i probably would not stay there again the next time i visit phnom penh simply due to the location. it's located in a very pleasant boulevard with trees and wide sidewalks. that sounds good and it is, but i believe i'd rather be on the main drag by the river where all the bars and restaurants are. in the le royal neighborhood, there is really nothing there except for some embassies and another hotel (sunway). you end up having to rely on the tuk tuks to get anywhere. so if you're looking for a luxurious gated fortress to hide away from the chaos of phnom penh, le royal is perfect for you. if you'd rather be part of that chaos, i'd suggest looking elsew
Le Royal is the epitome of luxury. 10/10”
The Raffles name epitomises the very essence of hotel luxury, professionalism, attention to detail and relaxation - in short, perfection. Le Royal Raffles, Phnom Penh, did not disappoint. It wins on every count and I am not normally this gushing in my feedback. What I loved the most was the ambience, the history of the building, the exceptionally trained and down-to-earth attitude of the immaculately dressed staff, and their CONSISTENTLY genuine warm demeanour. It's that consistency that many hotels find hard to achieve. It's part of the furniture at a Raffles hotel. Then there is the history.. Jackie Kennedy's memory is remembered with taste. Raffles at its best! My stay was faultless. The welcome at the door was one of natural, not forced, smiles with the personal touch of actually knowing my name! A touch that was maintained until the day I was driven to the airport. It's that extra touch of class that separates Raffles from the pack of luxury hotels. Add to that the fantastic surprise of returning to my room to find my towels transformed into baby elephants, surrounded by orchids. Thank you to Botum, the on-hand room attendant and towel origami expert. I experienced every area of the hotel - from the exceptional food and service in the fine dining restaurant, cocktails in the Elephant Bar, the history of the Writer's Bar, a swim in the spotlessly clean pool, the best massage I've had in a long time in the hotel spa and the intoxicating ambience of the lobby. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and I will be returning, for sure. Ask famed 1970s New York Times war correspondent Elizabeth Becker and you will hear the same.
Nothing rivals The Raffles Experience...”
Throughout this trip, we have stayed in 9 different hotels in less than 3 weeks, but nothing compares to Raffles Hotel Le Royal at Phnom Penh. The staff were warm and hospitable, paid great attention to detail, and gave us a nice surprise for our honeymoon (although we only told them so when we checked in!). We had small chats with some of the service staff, which was really nice...I guess they had a sense of pride working there and hence provided a very consistent level of service. The hotel itself exuded a sense of heritage luxury, without being pompous, posh or 'over the top'. Details such as the lemongrass welcome drink and the lemongrass aroma once you step into the hotel complete the overall 'Raffles Experience'. We have been thoroughly spoilt and look forward to returning to Phnom Penh, even if it's just to stay at Raffles!
Relaxing escape from the bustle of the city”
Our first time to Phnom Penh, and we really enjoyed our stay at Raffles Hotel Le Royal. Especially traveling with a 21 month old, the staff was very hospitable, genuine, and met our needs. They provided a Fisher-Price toy in our room, had the baby cot all setup, and provided us with a package of all natural baby cleaning products as well! he spa facilities are wonderful, and there are many nooks and crannies to sit and enjoy the beautiful landscaping. The only thing that would make this location better is a play room or kids clubhouse to further entertain the little ones. We hope to return and enjoy an adult getaway one day soon!

where to stay in pp for comfort, luxury & location”
We stayed at the Raffles Le Royal Dec 28-30 as we were in town for a wedding. While there are likely to rise a growing number of newer and more modern options in Phnom Penh, I would suggest Raffles for anyone who wants to capture some of this city's past. Built in 1929 and refurbished within the last 15 years, the colonial feel, touch and outstanding service are tough to beat, let alone match. A good mix of French and local cuisine for dining... excellent selection of wines (always important to me), and reasonably priced services (dry cleaning, dining). If you like adventure but prefer to stay/sleep in a comfortable and quality establishment, I would recommend this hotel.
Impeccable service and always with a smile!”
This is the second time we have stayed at the Raffles Le Royal. Yes - there are cheaper hotels in the city of Phnom Penh but for cheaper prices than a hotel room in Melbourne you can stay here! I say - why not. The service is impeccable, the staff friendly, the rooms well appointed, it's position is a short walk to the Riverside area, the pool area is a great retreat space. Every one of these things encourages me to stay here every visit to Phnom Penh.
Lovely paradise in the center of the city”
We live in Phnom Penh for years, and it becomes a tradition to stay at Raffles hotel for my wife birthday (but not only), which i mentioned for the first time in the reservation. The hotel offered us few things, including a birthday cake. They even sent me an email to ask which flavor we like! The hotel is quiet and relaxing, rooms are well designed and comfortable, service is perfect. Even guests says hello to each others in the corridors. The food is great in all restaurants, don't miss the outstanding breakfast! Staff at the swimming pool offered some ice creams to all swimmers in the afternoon. Staff at Monivong cafe took care of our kids. The Spa uses high quality products from France, Dermalogica. Luxury is about details. In Raffles, you have them all! I read some negative comments regarding the wifi speed, probably from guests arriving from Europe. I would like to say this is much faster than any other hotel in Cambodia! This is the first review I write on Agoda. Congratulations to all the staff!
A great hotel experience in Phnom Penh”
I stayed 3 days at the Raffles Le Royal in Phnom Penh. The hotel has a charming colonial ambience- consistent with Raffles-branded hotels in Siem Reap, and Yangon. The Elephant Bar had an excellent happy hour. The pool and the restaurants were great. While it is a bit far from the river- I walked the entire distance in about 15 minutes. This stay was great value for the money- although the price I paid might just be the low season price.
Great experience”
I truly enjoyed my experience at the Raffle Le Royal Hotel in Phnom Penh. My partner and I arrived not knowing what to expect and were so pleasantly surprised by the hotel, the staff, the food: the whole package. It was a bit pricey ($5 for a can of soda), but as my internet package was so good it all worked out to a good deal in the end. I also appreciated the professionalism of the staff, and that when I had any queries or complaints (small) they were dealt with immediately. True service. True style. And truely good.
Fun in Phnom Penh”
Phnom Penh is a fascinating city with an immense history. The Raffles is part of it. It's an excellent place to escape the heat and craziness and get your portion of luxury while in the city. The service is outstanding and the staff is extremely friendly, well trained and knowledgeable. We enjoyed our daily breakfast as it didn't leave any wishes unfulfilled and also the Elephant Bar is a great place to hang out. Unfortunately we didn't make it for dinner at the "Le Royal" as we always ate out in the city but it looks like the most romantic place for a dinner for two. The pool area is incredibly beautiful: an oasis in the middle of the city to unwind and relax. The gym is small but sufficient. The spa is less posh but the staff does an amazing job. I would stay for sure at the hotel again.
World class”
It was a dream, really exceptional hotel. I had booked nagaworld but checked out after 2 hours because it was a nightmare! I then went straight to raffles who helped me go and collect my things from nagaworld with a hotel car. A beautiful room with balcony, exceptional food, unbelievably helpful staff, beautiful pool, just really top notch. If ever i come back to Phnom Penh, raffles le royal it will always be.
My Favorite Hotel in Asia”
I try to stay at the Le Royal whenever I am in Phnom Penh. It has the ambience of an old French hotel - much history here. Raffles restored this wonderful property to period correctness and upgraded the rooms to ensure a very comfortable stay. The staff represent the best in Cambodia. Free Wi Fi makes it a good place to stay while on business travel. The Elephant Bar has been renovated and now the bar is much longer although I preferred the old classic club look. Excellent selection and good drinks.
Colonial Elegance and Cambodian Charm”
The Raffles Hotel Le Royal is one of a dwindling few hotels in the world that still retain a sense of history, place and old-world charm. All of the staff were completely on-point throughout our stay and we felt very well taken care of. While it's certainly at the high end of Phnom Penh price spectrum, it is money well spent.
A 'Royal' Service”
This was my first visit to Phnom Penh and The Raffles,le Royal Hotel. Truly memorable. A great way to start a tour. Helpful staff, couldn't do enough for me and my daughter. Very comfortable room and beautiful bathroom with everything to hand. The Elephant Bar is a great setting for pre dinner cocktails with a pianist playing memorable tunes on a grand piano. A visit to the spa and a swim before dinner, all helped to make this a memorable stay. This is a MUST STAY hotel.
Beautiful, charming and blissfully quiet!!”
Upon arrival I found that the hotel looks even better in reality than the pictures suggest, the porters wearing traditional Khmer clothing were attentive and respectful without appearing demanding of tips and the entire staff had the same attitude. I tipped everyone that I saw on my day of departure because they deserve it and because otherwise the stay becomes an endless round of tipping. My room was upgraded to a suite, with a view of the gardens and pool it couldn't have been better, high ceilings helped the rooms to stay cool without use of the air conditioning (I dislike air-con intensely) which I found enhanced my experience. I didn't use either pool, there are two, but they were clean and had plenty of loungers around and despite the popularity of the pools there were always spaces available. My only complaint is that for the price breakfast could have been included and the cost of breakfast for a guest was too much ($23.00). I didn't eat there but I am certain the food would have been as good as everything else. Not a typical tourist hotel in Phnom Penh, there is much cheaper available, but I doubt if there is better. Having stayed at some of the more expensive places in town I would say don't bother with Nagaworld go straight to Raffles!!
A grand historic hotel.”
This is a lovely old colonial hotel that has amazing history linking back to the time of the Kemer Rouge. The hotels decor is very colonial & grand, the famous elephant bar is a must visit especially from 4-7pm when drinks are in the happy hour. We decided on our first night to eat at the very elegant Restaurant Le Royal which serves lovely khmer and french food. It appears very posh and a little stuffy at first glance but don't be put off as the food was amazing and the service was excellent , we really enjoyed it. We stayed in a State room which are on the ground floor with a balcony facing the swimming pool, they are lovely and spacious. In my opinion this is the best hotel in phnom penh , a true haven from chaos of outside. Would highly recommend .
Raffles - a true world class hotel”
We had a wonderful stay at Raffles Hotel le Royal in Phnom Penh. It was my 2nd stay there, and if I am ever able to go again, I would do so in a minute. The staff were extremely helpful, the building itself is exquisite, and our stay was very enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who can afford to stay there.
An Oasis from the Heat and Pollution of Phnom Penh”
Raffles Le Royal is a charming vintage hotel with great service. It is exceptionally well appointed and clean. It is also very "British" in its formality. It is close to the American Embassy and Wat Phnom. Actually, because Phnom Penh is a modest sized city, any location is a reasonable distance from any place you might want to visit.
Raffles Le Royal Phnom Penh July 08”
Raffles is a great place to stay. The staff assisted with all our needs and questions and welcomed our driver. The room was spotless and the hotel provided electric mosquito repllent. the bistro has an excellent seafood buffet on the weekends. It is well located in Phnom Penh. It's close to Wat Phnom and not far from the riverfront restaurant strip. The hotel has a tour desk. You need access to these things in Phnom Penh to make life a bit easier.
Beautiful elegant hotel with a nice garden and large pool”
I have liked my room with the large terrace offering a nice view to the garden and the pool. Breakfast was big and tasty and staff was kind and very attentive. Raffles Hotel Le Royal is a true historic and beautiful icon in Phnom Penh.
Dear Claudia, Thank you for the wonderful feedback which I have shared with our team as we strive to improve the quality of our service. We hope your next visit will be as pleasant as the last. Sincerely, Jean-Pierre Joncas Hotel Manager
