    Best experience in Batad ”

Sometimes the path to new beginnings start with roads that are less traveled on. There are no concrete pathways going to Ramon's Homestay. Trekking and hiking was inevitable. Every step took us away further from the city noise; there were no car engine sounds, no horns beeping, no fones ringing. Upon reaching Ramon's Homestay we were welcomed by kind and smiling faces. And of course, Ramon, the owner himself. Having the owner greet us and making sure that the we were comfortably settled gave our trip a more homey feel. Instead of sleeping in the normal rooms, my family opted to stay in the Ifugao huts. Rates for the Ifugao hut rental is a lot pricier than their regular rooms but if you want the the full Batad experience, sleeping in a Ifugao hut is a must. If you are worried about your things, the staff will provide a padlock and will teach you how to lock the door from the inside and from the outside. However, the staff highly insists that their guests bring their valuables with them whenever they leave their huts. If you're staying in the hut, also take note that there is no electricity there therefore be prepared with your flashlights and lamps in the evening. As for the view, if you're wondering if you can get a glimpse of the grand rice terraces from Ramon's Homestay, my answer is yes. Definitely yes. Ramon's Homestay provides a full and open view of the rice terraces. So close you may think you're staring at a wallpaper rather than the real landscape. Food options in this place are very few and quite expensive based on the fact that supplies are hard to come by. Bringing your own food and baon to Ramon's Homestay is allowed so carry as much as you can especially water. Just don't forget to dispose of your trash properly. Overall, if you truly want to experience and feel the whole of Batad, Ramon's Homestay will be your best bet. Definitely recommending Ramon's Homestay.

A relaxing place to stay overlooking the rice terraces”

My group went to Ramon's in the first week of December 2016. Ramon's Homestay is a simple, clean, and quiet place away from the city. The dining area overlooking the rice terraces and the comfortable confines of our native Ifugao hut accommodation are good places to relax and enjoy a hot drink or a cold beer after a long hike from Tappiya Waterfalls and Awa Viewdeck. Samson was assigned as our guide and it was good that he shared interesting facts about the sights you meet along the hiking trail. We politely refused the extra activities in the evening (i.e. the rice wine making demonstration, bonfire, and cultural show) so we can enjoy a more natural experience of staying in Batad. Nighttime in Batad is serene and relaxing. The weather in December is well enough for a good night's rest. It would be advisable to contact Ramon's Homestay beforehand to clarify the transportation arrangements from Banaue to Batad. We were a small group on a budget and we were not informed that a chartered jeep was waiting at Ohayami bus station to take us to Batad Saddle Point. The jeep fare was expensive for a small group of four.

    Worth the experience”

We really enjoyed our stay in Batad and at Ramon's Homestay. Upon arrival in Banaue we were greeted by our guide Luciana, we did not know someone was going to pick us up so nice surprise. We met her and she took us for breakfast in Banaue. The Homestay was great, amazing views on Batad's rice terraces. The traditional hut was clean and lovely, candles as electricity at night in the hut But they are lights in the Homestay, bring a lamp torch! It was an unusual experience and would definitely recommend it but not for a long stay if like us you like the comfort of a bedroom. We stayed 1 night and it was perfect for us. Luciana is lovely she took good care of us, she arranged tours in the fields and mountain and saw the waterfalls, she definitely knows the area like her pocket. It was exciting and a real adventure, the veggie food was delicious, ate organic rice from the terraces. The first day it ran in the afternoon (we arrived at the end of the season) so we couldn't go on tour and were disappointed. Luciana could see that so she proposed us activities, showed us how to pound the rice the traditional way and I had a full body massage for 400PHP, the best I had in my life! Next day was the treks, be prepared if you do two treks in a row like us it is tough, I'm not a sporty person and was very proud of what I have accomplished. Only thing I would warn about is that they don't let you pay after every meal and charge everything at check out. BE CAREFUL: one thing we were not happy about is that we were a bit naive by not agreeing and asking for the price to have Luciana as a guide (without us asking for it) and all the extra they did for us. They never mentioned any price and made it feel like it was inclusive. At the end she took us back to the station in Banaue and asked us 4500PHP for the two tours and tricycles. She was not clear with the price and said she gave it to me before but I can't guarantee you that she did not and it was a bad surprise. I remember very wel

    Best homestay at Batad”

Ramon's Homestay has the best view in Batad, their Nipa Hut makes it even better as it will give you that local experience. The food is okay. But beware do not contact the Ramon's Homestay at Facebook as they are not affiliated with Agoda they also happen to charge people on a higher price. We booked Ramon's Homestay here at Agoda and for some reasons the Ramon's Homestay (Facebook Page) contacted us. We thought that they were affiliated with Ramon's (Agoda) so we booked our tour at transportation with them only to find out when we reached Batad that they are not connected with them. The staff at Ramon also told us that their rate is higher. For future customers only book here at Agoda.

    When in Rome...”

People - Mang Ramon, Ate Irene and Ate Josie (tour guide); Native Ifugao hut; and the cultural show at night.

I love learning about the culture of a place through its people and food. Staying at Mang Ramon's exceeded my expectations in this aspect. The native ifugao hut was such a great experience. I love how there was no cellular signal and electricity as I really wanted to disconnect from the city life. Shout out to the staff starting with Mang Ramon who was very welcoming to all of the guests. Same goes to Ate Irene who takes charge of the kitchen. I personally would recommend ATE JOSIE as a tour guide. Request her from Mang Ramon if you want to learn more about Batad culture. I also enjoyed the cultural show and bonfire with Mang Ramon. If I go back to Batad, I WILL DEFINITELY STAY AT MANG RAMON'S HOMESTAY AGAIN!

Be informed - hiking and opportunists”

The hike to the homestay takes around 30 minutes from the end of the road (literally the end of the concrete road where there is an attendant for overnight parking). Be sure to bring only what you need, as well as your valuables, and leave the rest in your car (if you have your own). Also, coordinate with your contact person at the homestay when going to Batad Village, you should not be paying an additional "guide fee" when going to the village. Be cautious of opportunists who take advantage of lost travelers. Other than that, our stay at Mang Ramon's was great.

    We Never Wanted to Leave!”

It couldn't have been any better! Ramon's was the perfect place to stay in Batad! Their huts are authentic and very clean, you really get the first-hand experience of how the people there lived for years. At first, one of my friends was very reluctant in staying at the hut because he didn't like the fact that it had no electricity but sir Ramon and his staff made him realize all in one night that this is just another part of the Batad historical experience, not just a place to stay. My friend then never wanted to leave the place at all! Sir Ramon set up a bonfire for all their guests and he told stories of the entire town. It was such a great experience how the staff made us feel like family, as if we've always known each other. 10/10 would recommend this to everyone travelling to Batad! Also, the view from their dining area is to die for!

    Lovely Homestay”

It was such a pleasure to be at Ramon's Homestay! Everyone was very nice and hospitable, you can tell they work as a big family. I stayed in a Nipa Hut and really enjoyed the authentic experience. Candles were my only source of light! In addition, we also experienced a thunderstorm and electricity was out. Mang Ramon created a bonfire and shared stories about Batad!

    Must stay in Bataad”

Could not reccoomend highly enough. Wonderful staff, incredibly helpful and accommodating, beautiful authentic huts and food and willingness to bend over backwards to make your stay perfect. Ramon, or Irene, will also organise transport for you from Banaue once you arrive from the bus. Caution; the bus 'guide (tourist trap)' will discourage you from using them. Do not listen to bus guides. Go with the gentleman that have your name on their piece of paper, you can haggle a cheaper price if you feel, and organise a ride back to Banaue if needed. Ramon and staff make you feel at home and will encourage you to participate in as many, or as few, local traditions as you feel comfortable. Very humbling experience. 10/10 must stay if you plan on staying in Batad

Good hotel staff, tour guide and costumer coordination, very accommodating staff and hotel owner, you will feel secured even during midnight because the native are all kind and friendly..

Aside from the food which cost alot higher, our whole stay in Batad is a very memorable one made possible by Ramon's Homestay.. Sir ramon has been very kind and accommodating to each and every costumer in his hotel.. Well actually, it's not a conventional hotel that u see every day, it's a better way of sleeping and experiencing the local ifugao hut, very clean and cozy though it doesn't have electricity.. Thanx also for their staff, jackie hu has been constantly communicating with us and pur wud be tour guide-- the kind "kuya eddie" thank u very much people..

    Cultural Travel Thrills ”

This was an authentic experience for those who enjoy discovering more about the Batan culture. The thatched roof and roomy interior complete with candlelight, open window plus my own flashlight made for an adventurous evening of listening to the sounds of the night, crickets, dogs and maybe a few night birds as well as moments of quiet. Absent were the traffic sounds that to which i am so accustomed. Refreshing! I imagine it would be also fun if you had a group staying in the hut with you as there was room for 4 but certainly for that night after a day of wonderful people, yes, i enjoyed the solitude. When the heat of day dissipated making room for cooler night climes there were plenty of blankets I started with one and then added layers easily for my comfort. I worried about visiting night creatures + mosquitoes due to the open unscreened concept of the portals but was incredibly surprised and peacefully thrilled that i did not have any visitors of this nature. Although i did wake once or twice in the night it was not for nightmares or for invasive critters but rather for moments of real retrospection about the simple beauty of my accommodations and the quiet inherent in a Batan night. I enjoyed working the ladder and the wood hewn doors once i got onto it. :) This is a stay that i will not soon forget. Views at breakfast were breathtaking and also the adobe chicken was honestly the best i had tasted yet as the chicken was tender and the soya sauce was blended with natural herbs from the plants YuM. Omelet for breakfast and coffee also easily available thanks to the staff at Ramon's. WOW! I enjoyed a visit from one of the seniors and had a most interesting conversation. Dogs were all part of the family, too :)

This is a beautiful village overlooking the rice terraces. We stayed in Hut #6, and it had a window that looked out on the terraces. Ramon and his staff are very friendly and accommodating and invite you to enjoy all the local customs and sights. In the afternoon, some women came by to give massages, and a woman named Feliza gave my wife a very good massage. The food was also very good - be sure to try the mountain tea. All-in-all, we would highly recommend staying at Ramon's.

    Great place, with flaws....”

Two nights at Ramon's after a two day trek from Banaue. I decided to stay in a traditional hut rather than a room in the main block because it seemed a fun thing to do. The novelty wore off after five minutes - I'd advise anyone staying at Ramon's to take a (far less expensive) basic room: - There's one very small window in the hut, so it's very dark even in broad daylight. But there's no electricity and no light is provided. So I just had to fumble around using the torch on my iPhone. - I'm 6ft/180cm and probably a little bit accident prone (!) but I lost count of the number of times I snacked my head on the ceiling, a beam, the door frame....the huts aren't really designed for tall people. - Toilets and showers are all located on the 1st and 2nd floors of the main block, so it's a bit of a trek. Not great if you're caught short in the night, because..... - Getting in and out of the hut at night on your own is no mean feat. It's pitch black. You have to climb a ladder in bare feet and fumble around with a tiny padlock. You need two hands to do this, so it's impossible to hold a torch. You need a headlamp. The door slides open, but the ladder rests on it so you have to kind of bounce backwards and forwards to get it open. It sounds worse than it is but it's still a pain. At night they light a small fire and encourage you to gather round with a beer and chat to fellow guests. This was fun. I have to be honest and say the food was pretty poor. I appreciate that supplies literally have to be brought in by hand, and that they work in fairly basic conditions, but even so....the chicken dishes with rice weren't great. Small portions, 'unusual' flavours and native poultry (i.e. mostly bone). The noodle dishes were big but with very little flavour. Eggs and toast was okay for breakfast. Staff are friendly and they try to help. Unfortunately, Andy arranged a guide for me to do a one-day trek to Patpat, but he failed to show up. With the help of two of the s

Friendly staff, smooth check-in, great local experience

We arrived early and had a good view of the terraces while waiting. Smooth check-in and check-out. Stayed at the Ifugao House and it was way comfortable than we expected; the sheets were not that new but it serves its purpose, room smells of old wood but very clean and well-maintained. The toilet close to the room was smelly, they didn't get to clean it often during our stay so we opted to use the one close to the receiving area, which is a bit far and taxing to do. The staff are all friendly and accommodating. Food is good but I suggest you order ahead of time so you won't end up hungry and irritated since it takes a while for them to prepare it. Ramon, the owner, is very welcoming and goes above and beyond in ensuring his guests will get the local experience they're looking for.

Mang Ramon's place gives you an authentic feel of Battad. The hut where we stayed with 2 children was spacious. We only had candle light for sleeping which was unusual for the children. The massage of the local women was excellent and the best we have had so far around Southeast Asia. The real challenge really and which could use a lot of improvement are the toilets and bathroom areas. It was really hard to take a bath and to go down the hut for personal necessities particularly at night. As the experience was authentic though brief, it gave us a glimpse of the lives of the people of Battad.
