Raniban Retreat is a unique boutique hotel offering an eco-friendly environment located on the secluded hillock of Raniban Hill Forest in Pokhara. Past visitors say this property boasts the best views and is the most peaceful location in Pokhara. Its peaceful ambiance comes from being located on a hilltop accessible via 500 stone steps through wild bushes. Access to the gates is via the road to the World Peace Pagoda, or on foot by an hour's trek through Raniban. From the gates, it is a short, but steep, walk up stone steps to a welcome drink on the panoramic terrace.
Raniban Retreat offers 10 clean and comfortable rooms, sumptuous food, a spa, great views, traditional hospitality, and 24-hour solar power backup. The property grows its own herbs and vegetable and serves them in the on-site restaurant. Raniban Retreat is a perfect boutique hotel for spending your exclusive time with your family and friends.

Stayed 3 nights at Raniban and could easily have spent a few more nights. The location gives you a wide view over the lake, Pokhara, the surrounding hills and the mountains. Rooms are comfortable, food is excellent and staff is very friendly and helpful. Absolutely recommended.
Amazing view, little heaven, they have a roof top that worth’s a lot ”
Friendly staff, helpful and kind
AMAZING EXCEPT FOR THE ROADS ”
The stay in Raniban was the best in Nepal. We took the mountain view room and never regretted. It was amazing. Except for the part that the roads up to Raniban was really bad, and that there was no heater, the stay was amazing. Food was amazing too.
Dear Guest, We appreciate you taking the time out for this wonderful review and are delighted to hear about your Raniban experience. We apologise for the roads but have been requesting the local government to get us the blacktopped roads as soon as possible. Hopefully, we'll have a smooth way by the end of this year. Once again, thank you for the review and hopeful for a revisit from you guys real soon. Regards, The Raniban Retreat Family
I LOVED it here!! The sunrise rooms are wonderful - v important to search online for the best price or go direct as I found big differences in prices and and got an excellent value for money price in the end.
Had a good 1 night stay in Raniban. It was away from the Pokhara lakeside area but truly loved how high it was. Location was superb for sunrise/sunset. You can even catch a good view of the ultralight flights as well as the Annapurna range. However, the only down side for me was the 522 steps upwards, especially if you are not exacty fit like me. The staff will help you carry your luggage/backpack up. There is another alternative route of 100+ steps but it is only accessible to go down. I would highly recommend this place if you want to be away from the hustle & bustle. The staffs are awesome too, always so attentive! Special thanks to Prakesh & Pradip in helping us book our day activities at a really good bargain (way cheaper than what is offered by companies/hotels in the lakeside area). The activities arranged for us was reasonable priced and was carried out by reliable tour agency. The breakfast at the rooftop was also good! Thanks for the great stay Raniban!
Fantastic location with excellent views”
Raniban retereat is located on top of a hill overlooking the Phewa lake. I don’t believe there are other properties that offer better views. The staff here are sincere and take very good care of guests. Food is good as well. We especially liked walking up and down the stairs leading up to the property. Mr.Ashok is the proprietor of the retreat and he personally detailed and organized our itenirary while we are at Pokhara. We were a group of 4 adults and 4 children and we throughly enjoyed our time at Raniban
We booked a mountain view room with shared garden. Beautiful view. Helpful staff. Only stayed here for a night. We would definitely be back again in the near future.
An oasis overlooking Pokhara”
My partner and I stayed at Raniban Retreat at the beginning of December and were so grateful for the warm welcome, peaceful surroundings, comfortable room, and delicious food. To get there, we crossed Fewa Lake and walked up through the Raniban forest. It is not an easy climb if you have your luggage with you, but it is rewarding to see the views across Pokhara as you go. The staff at Raniban Retreat are superb and cannot do enough for you. If I get to visit Pokhara again, I would absolutely stay at the Retreat for some wonderful peace and quiet. Thank you for looking after us so well!
Great potential, splendid views, everything else lacking”
Getting to Raniban is not for the faint of heart. It is located about 30 min outside of Pokhara. The last 5-10 min of the drive is on a very rocky, bumpy dirt road and the cliff edge always feels near. The hotel itself has breathtaking views and aside from friendly staff that’s really the only reason to stay here. Everything else disappoints: the clear lack of hot water, the cheaply furnished/appointment rooms that should not command the rates they are charging, the sub-par breakfast in a city with great hotel breakfasts! Don’t be fooled by the Agoda website indicating that the ride from Lakeside to Raniban is 200 rupees (2 USD) per person. It’s actually $13 USD for the ride, and the staff refused to honor the lower rate.
A peaceful retreat”
It was an amazing experience. I traveled solo and this personal retreat couldn't get any better. My taxi dropped me next to the 522 man made steps that would take me up to the hotel. If you wish to get assistance, there is a number by the steps that you can call and they will send someone down to help you. (Having a local number in Nepal is always very handy as roaming doesn't work efficiently). It was a climb, but the scenery as you ascend and when you reach the place is just breath taking. The staff are amazingly helpful. I engaged into conversation with their manager, who was very helpful and insightful. I booked a sunrise view room, that was another perk, you can watch the sunrise from the comfort of your room. Or, you can witness it from the restaurant's roof deck. If you book a room here, I guess you can skip the crowd at the observation deck in Sarangkot. The rooms were adequate and the internet connection was reliable in the common areas.
a lot of improvements are there i.e. rooms are better decorated and facilities being added, wifi are available for free and faster, customer services are warm as always. kudos. and definitely do not mind to visit again. and hopefully weather will be on your luck i.e. annapurna himalayan range poster-like view could be seen from Raniban. otherwise, it is still be a very nice 'retreat' ;)
it was our second time in Raniban, since two years ago. yep, the price-range has increased (from only USD50nett to USD115nett, for a Deluxe Room aka Mountain View Room now). however, indeed a lot of improvements are there i.e. rooms are better decorated and facilities being added, wifi are available for free and faster, customer services are warm as always. kudos. and definitely do not mind to visit again :)
A Heaven on Earth Hotel with the fairy tale view”
My stay in Raniban Retreat was so great. I knew about the 500 steps that must be taken to reach the hotel from the car stop and it's true, no alternative. I was actually stairs hater, but I can handle it. No regret at all because the view during stepping the 500 steps always nice and nicer. And when you are in the hotel, especially in the sunrise time, the view was super amazing (in early November). I can see Mt. Machhapuchhare ( Fish Tail) and the Annapurna Himalaya range, the clouds over the Phewa Lake and the World Peace Pagoda at the peak of a hill. You can call it Heaven on Earth or A Fairy-tale land. Do not expect more than the beauty of silence, no TV, no entertainment but 3G internet is provided free. And taking a long shower with hot water was so great. That's the reason I extended staying in this hotel. And Ganga, the manager and all the staffs, serve the guests with high standard of hospitality.
the most enjoyable stay”
i traveled with group of 4 persons in total, we all got upgraded to the room with the view. we were the only guest in-house, and OMG the 500 steps to Raniban Retreat is absolutely worth it! there's something about Raniban Retreat that gave us such an amazing feeling, we really enjoyed our stay. the Himalayas/ Phewa Lake/ World Peace Pagoda/ and the whole Pokhara can be seen from our room. i'd recommend to at least stay 2 nights (the more the better), you will enjoy your stay even more. the staffs are all very helpful and they cooked a good breakfast too! i hope can be come back in the near future :) happy!
Hotel with awesome view”
We were rendered speechless when we arrived at the foot of the hotel. We didn't realise what a climb it would be to get to the hotel - not for the faint hearted. However, the climb is worth it because the view is just fabulous. It's a good place to be with nature and just relax. The staff at the hotel are also very obliging. They boiled water for us to take a shower and provided us with hot water bags.
Great view with good service”
We came over here by taking a boat from the other side of the lake and climbing up to the hotel with all of our luggage on our back. Yes, it felt like torture as the way up was about 1.5hrs and we were both panting and sweating when we finally got to the hotel. In the beginning the hotel gave us an old lodge, and we were very upset as we had paid for a new lodge price. Then the hotel moved us to room 108, which was a LOT nicer and we were happy to finally rest. We did not find hot water the first night thus went to bed dirty, however, the other guests told us that we had to keep the water running for a long time in order to get water. So we tried that the next day in the afternoon and had a good shower. The room was clean and new with many comfortable carpets. The best thing about the room is that we were able to watch the mountains from our bed. It was awesome during sunset, very very pretty. And the terrace was great for sunrise. There was a staff especially helpful, he was smiling all the time and gave us details about our hikes the next day. The hotel provided hot drinking water for the rooms. And the sandwich and hot lemon with honey were great in the restaurant.
the location was the best, and if it was a clear day, you will get to see the annapurna mountains range. the climb up to the hotel was around 500 steps, but it worth the experience, for its view, price and ambience, seriously. the rooms were new, amenities were basic, hotel staff were nice, food was good, and above all the whole experience made us want to visit the place, at least one more time in future. in short, highly recommended
Best location in Pokhara ”
Our stay started a bit wrong since all taxi drivers in the city refused to take us to the hotel as it is on top of the mountain with a bad road leading to it, however when we got there and after walking the long steps ups to the hotel it turned out to be one of the best places to stay in the city away from all the annoying taxi drivers in the city. The staff are amazing and nothing better than watching the snowy peaks of the mountains from your bed or watch the sunrise and the same time the moon setting down from the restaurant or the city lights in the evening around the lake, even the planes flying below you.
They made my vacation truly unforgettable ”
It is a hotel perched on top of the hill higher than the World Peace Pagoda, and it gives you the perfect unobstructed view of the fishtail and the whole annapurna range. Imagine waking up and when you slide open your door, the snow-capped mountains will greet you good morning. when it's cloudy you'd feel bad for the people in the city because they won't see the awesome view, but since you are above the clouds, it would still be perfect with a sea of clouds hanging below you. we spent days just staying there writing and staring at the mountain range. Above all, this place made my stay in Nepal the best travel experience to date. I was alone and the staff always made me feel welcomed that at the end of my stay, I became a part of their family. I spent my birthday on top of that hill, I celebrated it with them and they even baked a cake for me. We spent some nights with the kitchen crew just singing traditional Nepali music... I came as a guest looking for a place to relax and sleep and I left the as a family member who promised to really go back in this amazing place!
splendid view and service.”
