"The restaurant was surprisingly good and the staff very helpful."

Booking the hotel you get the priority on the turtle tour in the evening which was fantastic (we could see turtles nesting and laying down eggs).

Very special place marred only by other guests”
The luxury tent itself exceeded expectations, it was nicer than most brick and mortar hotel rooms we stayed in during the trip. Spacious, very large and comfortable bed, strong A/C, and simple but more than adequate bathroom with enough hot water for a long shower. That said - for this price and given the nature of tents not being sound proof Ras Al Jinz MUST do something to limit the size or age groups of tent groups. We were surrounded by a huge family spread across two tents with seven children, several under the age of five, that treated the area as their personal jungle gym and campground and completely ruined the tranquility of the location with tvs blasting and yelling. The buffet dinner and breakfast was adequate but nothing special. We are all staying here of course to see the turtles. The center staff are very kind and clearly want to do what's best for the animals. We visited during the November low turtle season, but were lucky enough to see one laying/burying eggs at the 9pm and then another moving back out to sea at the 4am tour. Its a very special experience absolutely worth driving all the way to this corner of Oman for. That said- again other tourists spoiled it a bit. There were far more than 100 people allowed on the beach, and more than twenty in each group, the night we visited. That is simply far too many, it was hours of driving, waiting, and then being rushed by the turtles for a 30 second peak. Groups of this size are predisposed to acting desperate/like idiots- from flashing cameras, to not being quiet, to aggressively surrounding the turtles trying to get a better look.
Our stay at Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve was superb! The room was very neat and the dining facilities were good. Food was excellent. But the best feature of the trip was seeing the turtles in their natural habitat and the turtle museum!
Luxury tents, great experience”
We were booked in a luxury tent at the Ras al Jinx turtle resort. Lovely tent, well equipped, including a very efficient shower. The staff were very helpful, and the guide who took us to the beach to view the turtles was very knowledgable and friendly. We had priority viewing the turtles as we were staying at the resort, and only had to walk onto the beach from our rooms. There was also a free museum with audio handsets at the resort, well worth taking an hour to visit.
Very valuable place ! My kids love sea turtles very much ！”
You can see a lot of stars when u live tent area . The facilities are very simple but comfortable u ,especially the pillows and quilts . We have a very nice sleep . We join the five o’clock tour in the morning. It’s an unforgettable experience we saw two sea turtles and three little sea turtles in front of us . Unfortunately I saw the sea turtle guide using the flash light towards the turtles. (include some tourists use flash light to take photos)They wants the tourists can take photos clearly but it would disturb the turtles. I hope the turtle reserve can educate the tour guides and tourists before the turtle tour starts . We should protect sea turtles and our earth in deed . Some tourists even touch the baby turtles.
Bucket list trip!”
The turtle experience was incredible and the guides were so passionate about the work they do. Especially our 4am guide on Sat 17th September who was fantastic. We were able to see turtles every evening, both mothers and babies - definitely got really lucky! We stayed in the Eco tents which were really impressive in terms of facilities and were clean and comfortable with the much needed air con for the humid evenings. My only small issue was the noise of the tents during the night when it was really windy (metal loops banging off metal poles) - not something that was the fault of the resort. The staff were a great help with going further afield to see other parts of the area and gave great directions. The breakfast was simple but good quality, everything you could ask for really. I would recommend this at this time of year in terms of seeing the turtles as it was high season however I would also note that the 9pm turtle watches were really busy, to the point that I felt frustrated with other people who were only interested in a photo op and not the information on the animals. If you want to avoid crowds I would say go at a different time however you run the risk of not seeing so many turtles at a different time of year.
we loved our one night stay here! It's slightly expensive but I don't mind that when you consider that the money is going towards conservation. The tented rooms are really nice and a bit of luxury including their own em suite, comfy beds and a/c. Location is excellent. Definitely worth staying here if you plan to go turtle watching. From the look of the main building the tents are much nicer and worth the extra over the rooms. Staff were excellent including the kitchen and dining staff and all guides very friendly. Better to stay here if you want to watch turtles as they make sure you are in the first groups to see the turtles in the evening and you get the extra morning tour. Food was decent (curry particularly good) and plenty of options including lots of low fat and healthy options. Only thing we felt that dinner was very expensive compared to elsewhere in Oman and they charge extra for the bottle of water that they serve to you as if it's included. I guess it's a captive market but it seemed unfair. The museum could do with a little attention ass some exhibits broken and I felt there could be more information about the turtles but overall is was the best thing we did in Oman. I would definitely do it again.
Excellent Location for viewing Sea Turtles”
We had a very nice stay at the Reserve. It is a basic facility in a great location. The eco tents are very nice and comfortable with nice beds small fridge, water kettle and little bathroom with shower and hot water. We reserved an extra bed and it was sent over after a few hours. Towels and sheets were very clean. There is a patio in front of the tent and a little one in the back. Our tent had an ocean view off the back. The Breeze was amazing so we were able to enjoy sitting outside even on a hot and humid day. Due note if you take a tent in the back by the ocean it is very windy at night so you will hear noises. When you reserve the Eco tent it includes 2 turtle tours, breakfast and entrance to the museum. Don't miss any of these! The night tour is at 9:00 pm and we saw turtles laying eggs. The early morning is 4:00 am but it is worth it. We saw more turtles laying eggs and walking back to the beach with a beautiful sunrise. So worth staying here just to see the turtles. The beaches are very nice and we actually saw so many turtles swimming in the Sea. You will see lots of Crabs and turtle tracks in the sand. Overall it is a great experience for the whole family. We will go back in Sept or October to see the turtle babies.
Highly recommend the whole experience! We were the only ones staying in the hotel on this night and we were treated like royalty! Raja the Manager of the restaurant was outstanding and we really enjoyed the food. The turtle experience is central to this hotel, so no pool or view from the hotel room. There were no turtles visiting the beach during the evening as low season, but we were very lucky to see a turtle lay her eggs and return to the sea the following morning. Lovely small group of only 10 and the guide was excellent. Great being at the Reserve, no driving backwards and forwards!
We arrived at 7pm. If you arrive earlier you have access to the turtle beach until 1pm, at which point they ask visitors to leave to allow the turtles to arrive in peace. We booked one of the tents as opposed to the rooms. We strongly recommend the tents, they are much nicer and better equipped than the rooms, and sleeping under the stars is a brilliant experience. Each tent is air conditioned, very clean with comfortable beds and it's own shower and toilet with hot water. There are panels on the tents that unzip and expose a mesh window, porous enough to allow light through but also stop any flies or insects coming in. They are a 3 minute walk away from the main reserve but you can also drive between the two or utilise the buggy service. A buffet dinner is served on site, but we showered and rested instead. At 8.30pm we met in the main foyer. It was a busy night for the middle of February (off peak season) but room guests are given priority and are allowed out first, then ticketed guests. We walked for approximately 15 minutes to the beach where we saw two turtles laying their eggs. We were also lucky enough to see 4-5 hatchlings make their way to the sea and watched another turtle return back from egg laying into the water. The guide, who was a bit abrupt at first, clearly cared about the turtles and gave an explanation into the whole process. The experience lasts between 60-90mins depending on how much is going on. It was definitely an experience we won't be forgetting soon. Breakfast was buffet and nothing special but the memories from the night before will plaster over any flaws. Expensive but definitely worthwhile if you get a tent
Great place for turtle watching”
The hotel is at the reserve itself. So it's very convenient & no late night driving to go for the turtle watching tours. The price includes breakfast, 2 tours (night & predawn) and entrance to the museum. As a hotel guest, you have a secured place on both tours. For non-hotel guests, you have to reserve your spot ahead of time. The room was spacious & clean.
Poor wifi, great turtles”
If you want to visit the turtles you cant get closer. We opted to stay in the luxury tent which although expensive and squeaky, had an excellent shower, was very clean and made a nice change to typical hotel rooms. The only downside was that the wifi across the whole reserve rarely worked.
Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve”
Mostly everything was great. The location is spectacular, the tents are very unusual and comfortable, food was decent and the buffet offered quite much choice. The highlight, turtle watching, is just magic, well organized, with interesting guides. Negative points: - Knowing that after the 4am turtle watching, you go to bed somewhere between 5.30 and 6.30am, having some workers doing some drilling, talking and laughing very loud at 8.15am is not that enjoyable... - No real coffee for breakfast
We were a couple, stayed at the reserve in the first week of October. It was my third visit to see the turtles, my earlier visits were before the reserve started. There are two turtle tours, first at 8.30 PM and the second at 4 AM. People staying at the reserve don’t need to pay for the tours as it is included in the room rent and get the first chance to watch the turtles. It is done in batches of 20 people. We had a huge crowd at the night tour, most of them were not staying at the reserve. The morning tour was peaceful for us as we were only one batch and could see the turtles clearly at the sun rise, the beach too is beautiful. The experience was good and we enjoyed it. Regarding the rooms, they were small as it is a reserve and can’t expect much but equipped with all essential amenities. The buffet breakfast had a decent spread, and everyone get a free car wash at the parking in the morning.
Best Hotel to see the Sea Turtles!!!!”
The hotel is right on the nature preserve, so it provides the BEST access to the Green Turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs. The hotel stay includes breakfast and 2 sea turtle viewings (one at 9 pm, and one at 4 AM). The room was very clean and laid out well, even had a big screen tv. The whole family loved it
Came with kids and glad we did”
Really great! Staff was nice and polite and the tents were very big for our family. Our 3 kids age 11,9 and 6 shared a big bed. We missed seeing baby turtles though we heard one later group saw them. We saw two different turtles and one we saw laying many eggs. Amazing experience. Sunrise on the Indian Ocean / Arabian Sea was gorgeous.
Great opportunity to see turtles in nature.”
Visited with young children (8-mos, 2 & 4). Great night tour, guide did wonderfully with our young ones. Others suggested bringing a flashlight. That's good for the walk to/from beach, but can't use it on the beach. However, LED lamps with a red-light function can use the red-light on the beach. Luxury tents were very comfortable. We arrived late. Definitely recommend arriving before sunset, as driving through Sur (and trying to follow the few signs) was a little tricky without sunlight.
A bit overpriced, but still worth it”
The room was clean and decent overall, the service amazingly helpful and polite. The turtle watching is extremely well organised, we've got to see 3 big turtles and a baby one at night. Totally worth it, never experienced anything like that before!
Eco Friendly reserve”
Though there are other location and properties in Oman to stay and watch the nesting activity of Turtles Ras Al Jinz is a stand alone property that offers better facility with English speaking guides and information through museum.
Comfortable, clean rooms, great views, no crowds.”
Checking in was quick. The tent stay though a great novelty for us, was a little spoilt by the odour of the septic tank in the bathroom (though it was not obvious inside the bedroom. The resort should look into that. Also this was Jan - very cold, windy weather in which a heater in the room would have made our stay more comfortable especially when I had my mother aged 80 with me. The guide could have made note of the older people and those with disabilities (there was a man with a stick and walking disability) and walked a little slower to accommodate them - taking cognisance of the fact that it was an irregular unmarked path on a beach at night with no illumination except the small flashlight (of the guide) in the front. My personal electronic guide at the turtle museum (on the premises, free entrance for hotel guests)ran out of battery in the middle of the tour. The souvenir shop could be bigger and stock more Omani handicrafts than just "turtle" based objects.
Great turtle viewing”
The hotel itself is so so. Quite basic. However you do not come here for the hotel but to see the turtles which is an amazing experience. We did both tours, evening and morning and we saw plenty of turtles both times.
