Swissotel Bangkok Ratchada (SHA Plus+)

"Great and beautiful hotel, the room is very clean. Staff is very friendly and helpful and they pay attention to details. The gym is one the best equipped gyms I have ever seen for a hotel and it is spacious. Location is very good for me as it is only about 2-3 minutes walk to Huai Khwang MRT, it is well connected by train: 1) 1 station away from Thailand Cultural Centre- Train Night Market Ratchada 2) 3 stations away from Phetchaburi where you can change train at Makkasan for the Airport Rail Link 3) 6 stations away from Kamphaeng Phet where it is an entrance to Chatuchak Market 4) 4 stations away from Sukhumvit where you can find malls like Terminal 21 or change to BTS train. 5) 8 stations away from Silom about 15-20mins train ride) I will definitely choose Swissotel Le Concorde once again for my next stay! Grand Fortune Hotel Bangkok (SHA Plus+)

"Probably one of the best location in Ratchada area. A new Central Plaza mall has just opened opposite. Great for travelers whom have some time shopping. The train network is just steps away and at the intersection of the highway leading to the airport. It took me just under 30mins to get to the airport albeit some traffic. The rooms are clean but a bit old. Kind of dim and more suitable for those whom likes a different mood with purplish theme almost everywhere. Including the elevator. I heard it will undergo some form of renovation next year. If that is so, look no further than this hotel if you intend to stay in this area. "

Mybed Ratchada Hotel (SHA Extra Plus)

"I booked the female dormitory and got lucky, because there was only 1 other girl there. So with that, it was perfekt. But if it would be fully booked, I think I would go crazy... there are only 2 toilets and 2 shower.. now imagine 12 girls in that...oO So based on that i'm not sure if i would book it again. The location was great tough. Directly in front of the ratchada night market. But for this price, you could get a whole room for yourself in another district. But besides all that, it was allright. I slept really comfy but the smell was kinda bad. And I was quite disturbed by the fact that 2 male workers came in.. the first one came in the middle of the night to use the toilet oO and the second one came in the morning, when i was coming out of the shower and he was taking pictures of the room.. so I felt really awkward... since it's a female dorm they should hire some female worker.... Aspira One Sutthisan
Ratchada,Ratchada - View on map
"The front desk staff was very helpful, especially Ms. M. Yes, her name is M. I reported a cigarette ash stand inbetween the cafe and the hotel reception entrance to Ms. M, which causes terrible smoke in the walkway. Guests basically can't avoid that passage to enter the hotel. She was very positive and promised to take the action. I have been traveling in Thailand many times. In most cases, Thai people would be very nicely saying yes, but nothing happens. But for Ms. M, she took it seriously and I saw the result when I went through the passage again. She was also very helpful when I asked her to print out a visa letter. I got it when I returned to the hotel. Aspira would be a great hotel chain or guest home if all staff acts like Ms. M. I will definitely stay there again. By the way, Aspira hotels consistently provide one of the best bedding that makes me sleep restfully!"

AMANTA HOTEL & RESIDENCE RATCHADA (SHA Plus+)
Ratchada,Ratchada - View on map
"The 1-bedroom suites are attractively furnished, not huge but fairly roomy and well-planned. They have all the modern amenities such as flat screen TV and DVD player. The pool is large and beautiful and there's a half-decent fitness room. Staff were at all times friendly and helpful. The building, amenities and rooms are spotlessly clean and well-maintained. While it's not in a cozy or traditional area of the city, the Amantha Ratchada is in an ideal location as far as transportation and shopping are concerned. The MRT subway station Thailand Cultural Centre is just around the corner (exit 3). The BTS Skytrain at Sukhumvit (Asok) is only 15 minutes away. 2 MRT stops away is Petchaburi, with access to the Airport Link station at Makkasan if you're not carrying too much luggage, and a few steps away from the Klong Saen Saep canal boat system, for visiting most of the historical tourist attractions (temples and Grand Palace). If you give the address Ratchada soi 5 ("Ratchada soi ha"), the Amantha Ratchada is simple to find for any taxi driver in the city. A few steps beyond the MRT entrance is the Esplanade shopping mall, with a Tops supermarket and a large number of Thai, international and Chinese and Japanese chain restaurants with delicious items and a food hall where you can also take out Thai food for consumption in your apartment. The Espanade is full of attractive shops and many international brands. It also has a movie theatre with showings in English. Further on are the gigantic Carrefour Superstore with its own mini-mall and an equally huge Tesco Lotus. In fact, with so much retail availability close by, you might not find it necessary to head for Ratchaprasong or Siam for shopping. In the evening, there's street food between the Esplanade and Carrefour and a beer garden during the dry season. There's a large covered evening market back of the street as well. Ratchada night life is also near at hand (soi 6)."

More about Ratchada

Ratchadaphisek is north of Sukhumvit and is a busy commercial and entertainment district. Accommodation on Ratchadaphisek Road has great access to restaurants, malls and nightclubs. Lots of students, young Bangkok office workers and expat teachers call this part of the city home.

The subway (MRT) follows Ratchadaphisek Road, making it safe and easy to connect between shops, restaurants and hotels. The two major cultural attractions in the area are Siam Niramit and Thailand Cultural Center. These are great venues for first-time visitors to learn about Thai traditions and art, and the presentation includes enough excitement and special effects to interest children.

Hotels in Ratchadaphisek are large and especially popular with Chinese and Japanese tourists. Prices are affordable in Ratchadaphisek, and since guests have access to the subway they can easily connect to the Grand Palace or the Sukhumvit area easily.

Shopping centers including Lotus, Carrefour and Robinson are located next to the Cultural Center MRT station. The more affordable and more locally-flavored Jusco shopping center is also only a few steps from Thailand Cultural Center MRT. Esplanade is the most popular mall with younger people, featuring an ice-skating rink, cinema complex, mini skate park and several big-chain cafés and restaurants. Behind Esplanade is a dedicated nightclub zone with several large clubs that are busy every night of the week with Bangkok locals. Across the road are Ratchada Soi 4 and Soi 8 – both of which feature many large nightclubs, the most popular called Hollywood.

Ratchadaphisek covers a large area which is mostly residential and gives visitors to Bangkok a good idea about what life is like for locals. Since it's also where many expats find affordable accommodation there are plenty of facilities geared towards foreigners, with markets (Ratchada Soi 14), the vintage weekend market (Huay Kwang MRT), Esplanade and Robinson shopping complex presenting plenty to do.
