We intended to spend 2 nights in Kandy and therefore opted for the Red Letter hotel as it looked decent and close to the main city. We were travelling by car so the 16 km shouldn't have been a problem. After a 2 hours trip from Passikudah Bay we finally arrived in Wattegama. We thought it will be easy to find the hotel but after driving around for about 1 hour, a lot of turning backs and asking several locals about the hotel, we finally managed to find a sign showing to a path. Another 300 m on a small path through lush vegetation, wondering if there could be a hotel out there and we finally reached our destination. It didn't look like a hotel at all, but more like an unfinished house. After knocking for a while a guy appeared and invited us in. He looked very helpful and indeed he was throughout our short stay, but unfortunately he knew just a few words in English. The first floor of the building was still under construction. We were lead to our rooms on the floor below, on smelly and dirty looking stairs. The first room we were presented was large but smelly, looking old and somehow dusty. The guy gave us two very worn blankets and some fruit juice. The second room had no bed linings but he brought some. We checked the windows, which were very thin and some of them not closing at all and after noticing a 2 m. long snake crawling just a few steps from us, our decision was taken. We tried to speak to the guy explaining that we intend to leave and cancel our reservation but he couldn't understand us. He called his manager on the phone and passed him through. It was a very unpleasant conversation trying to explain him that his location doesn't look at all as in the advert and that we intend to leave and we will expect a refund for at least 1 night. I don't know if he didn't understand or just played the fool as he continuously asked when are we going to return. At the end there was no refund.

Beautiful and peaceful place”
Very friendly and attentive staff, amazing jungle view from room and dinning area, quiet place away from all the noise of Kandy town
I am a budget traveler but decided to spend a little bit more for a nicer room. It was for sure one of the best places I've ever stayed in, the staff were so kind and helpful even though their English was limited. They weren't the most prepared when I arrived but you could see them really trying to give you their best attention and a good and pleasant stay. Internet wasn't working so they arranged a computer with a stick with internet so I could make plans for the next few days, with bookings, information, etc, and also speak with my family. As place is a bit far from town I was told tuc tuc to arrive shouldn't be more than 700rs, and owner was so kind to drive me to Kandy town, free of charge. With limited time in Sri Lanka I had to move around every day, but the view was too beautiful to leave behind that I decided to stay for an extra night. The most ideal spot if you're looking to be away of the noise of the city, with beautiful views and relax
