Clean budget hotel”
I was very satisfied with this budget hotel. The facilities were not extensive but the room was clean and the owner very friendly and helpful. The internet was reliable and the self serve breakfast was welcome.

I can give Sly an excellent!”
Good stay and good owner who had worked at hotel business over 20 years! Nice location which is just 15 minutes walk to Jesselton Point with 5 year-old girl and has many good and casual restaurants around. Room is clean and shared bathroom all good. Above all things, owner is the best part of this stay. Sly the owner very friendly and helpful. Whatever you ask him, you can get a good tip for it at least. Very little one thing was not satisfied is the price list. It is very small, so I couldn't notice the laundry service. I hope he will enlarge the price list or post the laundry charge on the wall just next to the laundry machine. :)

Highly Recommended for backpacking couple”
Enjoyed our stay at Red Palm Hostel. Mr. Silvester is very accomodating and helpful host. He find ways to still accomodate us eventhough i made a mistake in booking. Place is very strategic at city center, lots of food choices, easy access to transpo and key tourist spots. The hostel is very homey and clean. Will be coming back!

Excellent experience in Malaysia!!”
In fact, I am not a good renter. We arrived in Kota Kinabalu by flight, but it delayed. And we booked the car to pick us up from airport to hotel. After we delayed, we lost in airport long time.. the driver keeps waiting for us around the airport again and again, at the end, we are late a lot!! When we met the driver, he has been waiting for us 3 hours!! 3 hours!! OMG,but he is still very nice.. The second day, we found that the driver is the host..haha He loves clean, he clean our room everyday, and change the pillow case, very nice for us. He waked up before us everyday, and arrange the breakfast, so we will not starve when we go sightseeing.. We wants to rent a car not predetermined, he helps us to borrow a car.. and prepare everything in the car, the umbrellas, the GPS in English.. He also planned the rounte for us, in case we lost.. If I go back to Kota Kinabalu, I have to stay here again!! Oh,yes.. more things, the location is really convenient, it is in Gaya Street, we can join the Sunday Market easily, nice location, nice facilities, nice host!!!

Recommended for budget travelers”
This is one of the oldest hostels in KK but I can say that it is still the best. Stayed here for a night and everything in our stay is great. The hostel is situated right smack along Gaya street, and is a few minutes walk to Jesselton Port. My companion and I arrived at around 2 in the morning and the person who welcomed us is still very accommodating despite us interrupting his sleep. The room we rented is good for two, with common toilet and bath which is not a problem since the place is spic and span. There's free breakfast of eggs, toasts, coffee, and some fruits. Overall a great stay for us.

Excellent budget stay in downtown KK”
We stayed for 2 nights and are staying a third upon our return to KK because we enjoyed the hostel so much. The owner is very friendly and a great guy willing to help with anything. The place is older, yet well maintained. Breakfast is included and is cook-yourself (toast, hard boiled eggs, coffee and tea). The location is great, as it is in the centre of downtown KK. A laundry machine is available to use for 10 RM a load (max 6 kg). Highly recommended!

Perfect choice for us”
Great location, and staff really helpful. Breakfast simple but filling (eggs toast and some other bits). Also available until midday so if you sleep in you don't miss it like other places. We slept well, aircon was silent and room blacked out. Bathrooms clean and one was always free when needed. Staff really helpful, sat down and discussed various places to visit.

Perfect place to stay in KK”
Pros - nice aircon room, really friendly staff. Breakfast - simple but very good start to the day. Hot water showers, all at excellent price. Sometimes karaoke can be heard but it wasn't enough to keep me awake and I'm a light sleeper so should be fine

Really nice stay”
We had a really good stay at Red Palm. The double rooms are small but comfortable, with air con and a clothes rail. The shared showers had hot water and breakfast was nice, we were able to get laundry done. Our room was cleaned and sheets changed after 3 nights which was nice. The owner is rely friendly and keen to help with information. Bathrooms could have been cleaner and drier but I suspect this is more to do with the other guests there at the time. It is a little expensive but good value compared to other places in KK.

Ideal place to stay for travellers.”
+++ Although place is basic it is very cozy! Room with good working a/c, hooks, hangers and socket(remember to get an adapter for Malaysian socket). 3 shared showers with hot water and 3 toilets right near the rooms. Nice balcony with street view, place to hang the wet clothes and wash the dishes. Common area with TV (has lot of channels), street view and place to drink tea and hang out. Simple tasty breakfast do-it-yourself style: boiled eggs, brewed coffee, fresh fruits and toaster. This place is very safety! It has amazing central location! Don't miss Sunday market (6am-1pm)with local foods and crafts just infront of guest house! The ownerer is very friendly! We were talk a lot about everything. He was very kind and help us to get to airport at 5am. - - -The WiFi was slow and has poor connection at the rooms. There is bar with live music nearby, there was always loud music until 1-2Am, we were sleeping as a babies so it was okay for us. Other stuff wasn't so friendly as the owner.

wonderful place to stay”
Wonderful place to stay. Went with my dad for a short trip. We stayed there 2 nights - alternate day ( as we spent our 2nd night in another place) Strategic location, 5 min to Atkinson tower, 15-20 min walk to Filipino market, 20-25 min walk to Jesselton point (slow walk), opposite the famous laksa. Greeted by a warm welcome from Raido the staff, already waiting for us when we came. Need to take off shoes once inside. Small but nice living room with TV and reading materials. Room is clean. Just that it's a bit dim though(thus I like to stay in the living room-felt like home). Shared bathroom is clean too! Towels and soap provided. Just no toilet paper ( but it's find, I brought my own). Breakfast is simple but nice with toast, eggs, oat, coffee / tea. The owner Silvester or we just call him Sly is so nice. He can remember our names! giving tips and guide to travel around. On the last day, we checked out in the morning as we were going to the islands. We left our bags there and planned to collect it after island tour. Sly was so kind to offer us the bathroom for shower when we came back (you don't get to use the bathroom if you've check out in other places). Will definitely come back here in the future.

Superb!”
Sly and Suzy are very accommodating. Good breakfast. Clean room always. Very accessible to anywhere you want to go at Kota Kinabalu considering hostel is just walking distance to airport bus station. Near bars, malls and restaurant - laksa just infront - you must try very yummy! Sunday market just outside hostel. Will definitely recommend this to my friends and family! Two thumbs up! :)
