Beautiful hotel in convenient, charming area
The hotel is attractive and well-located for sight-seeing with pleasant, comfortable and very elegant rooms and a lovely courtyard restaurant. The price is high, but for Beijing hotels not unusual. The staff are very friendly though sometimes baffled by simple requests (afternoon tea or a taxi, for example). Wifi, shower, toilet and air conditioning all work well and the bed was very comfortable. Western-style food was just okay, I would stick with the Chinese offerings!

The staff is superior
The location is right in the center of Beijing, which puts you are in a real neighborhood. The metro connection is very convenient and there are good local restaurants within walking distance. The staff immediately responded to a problem with the room and gave excellent recommendations. Only drawback is the climb to 4th floor rooms.

Worst hotel we encountered in our trip through China
The positives… - I was drawn by its visual charm, as shown on review sites, and in that regard, I was happy with it - Its less than a kilometre from one of the top-rated Peking duck restaurants - It’s possible to walk to the Forbidden City, subject to weather - Reception staff were mixed but some were good The negatives… - The location was a problem for taxi drivers; only the taxi that delivered us from the airport (100 – 150 Yuen on the meter depending in traffic) actually took us there. We were always dropped at one end of the street or the other, and several times at a parallel street by mistake. At best it’s a couple of hundred metres walk from the taxi to the hotel down a busy, narrow, one-way alley - The constant rip-off pricing just sours the experience – details later - Staff asked to order a taxi, big enough for our luggage, to be present at 05:30 to take us to the airport, didn’t bother despite assurances that they would - The wooden flooring is some kind of wooden overlay that looks nice but it noisy to walk. In bed at night, we sometimes heard people walking in late - Restaurant service is a disgrace. Staff were so inattentive that they had to come to our room to get the meal bill signed because we’d given up waiting for them to come by so I could ask for it. On another occasion, my daughters were moved from outdoors to indoors because outdoors was booked. They then waited 20 minutes to be told that the dish they’d both ordered was not available and finally got their food just on an hour after moving to the new table – and this during day when we were trying to get out to do things. After all this delay, the outside tables remained unoccupied - Mosquito control could be a lot better; my wife sat on the balcony for an hour or so one afternoon and read for a while. Before she realised, she’d collected 17 bites on her legs - Restaurant pricing is just a rip-off. OK, a little (33cl) beer that costs 6.2 Yuen in a local shop costs 38 Yuen in the

This place IS the staff.
Nevermind the fantastic ambiance in this little pearl in the middle of a hutong, the true value of this place is its stuff. I really hope the management values their effort and constant solicitude. We were all frankly impressed. The little great details were shown even at breakfast: Not much variety and yet it was all so well cooked and tasty that there's no point on worrying. All greatly home cooked and even the usual omelet was fantastic. Don't miss the painting with the pig and the little girl.

Fantastic Beijing Experience
We were blown away with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff at Red Wall Garden Hotel. They arranged everything for us including transportation and private tour guides for the four days we were there. The hotel itself is very charming, with a great location and the food in the restaurant was excellent On top of this, we enjoyed the culture night events, plus the hotel had a special Easter Day program for the kids and the staff arranged a calligraphy lesson for us where we learned to write our names and numbers 1-10. We stayed in one of the large suites on the top floor and it was very comfortable for our family of four. Back to what really impressed us the most, was the staff. They made our experience one we will remember for a lifetime with the fondest of memories. in particular, Ying, our guest relations coordinator, she was outstanding. She was always there when we needed her and she was so incredibly helpful. During our downtime on a couple occasions she happened to be around and poured us tea in their upstairs tea area. Great conversation, great tea and a fantastic experience!!! Thank you Ying and to the rest of the staff at RWG Hotel!
