Quiet side of the island”
The hotel is located on the quiet side of the island, walking distance to the best (and empty!) Beach on the island. No alcohol is served or sold on this side, however there's a fancy hotel.near by that does sell it but very expensive. The staff was Incredibly attentive and friendly. The furniture needs to be renovated as it was breaking bad and didnt look.good.
Nice place to stay in the quiet part of Redang”
We were picked up from the jetty and driven to the accommodation for I think RM10 each. The room was clean with a comfortable bed (although the pillow was too large). The bathroom was clean with a warm shower with good water pressure. The rooms are situated on the side of a hill so be prepared to climb some steps! There is a restaurant attached which serves a basic menu as well as drinks (good fruit shakes). There are one or two restaurants nearby and one shop with very basic provisions a 5-10 min walk away. This was the quiet part of Redang with not much going on, however, this means that the beach is almost entirely your own. The guesthouse can arrange for snorkelling tours. There is a resort 5 mins down the road which has it's own beach and serves a variety of food and alcohol drinks (the only place in this part) and is the only place to accept cards. Note that the island does not have any ATMs. The other, busier side of the island, is a half hour walk through the jungle (not a difficult walk) where there are a number of cafes and restaurants. Would recommend staying in this part of Redang.
100 stairs to the chalet...”
We thought we are booking a cozy chalet according the pics on the web but what was looking like cozy chalet turned into the stinking moldy hole. Although housekeeping should be every 2nd day, it happend every 4th day... The staff was probably lazy... You have to climb up 100 stairs to the chalet and if you did it several times per day it was really annoying activity. Food in hotel's restaurant was not good at all, waitresses were lazy too and even if you pointed finger into menu to show what you want to order, you can be pretty sure they will bring you wrong order or for two people for lunch just one meal. Terrible. There is much better restaurants on the other side of the road. Besides, this is wrong side of island, beach is quiet, but far from hotel, if you want better restaurants, beer or more "life" you should stay on the other side of the island. There is only a jungle track to get there, there is no road, so renting a scooter is for nothing, you can get nowhere...
Near of the best beach in all Redang”
As pros: Bungalows were fine, good quality/price relationship. Clean. Food was really good at the restaurant. The hotel is close to the beach, you'll have to walk about 15 minutes to get to it, this is the worst part. However, once you are on the beach you'lll forget everything, because it's the best one!!! As a contra, people from the hotel did not have turist information
Great view of the hills”
The rooms are located on a steep hill and almost all of them facing the adjescent green hills, which have great view esp during misty mornings. To get to the rooms though, one must be very able. My room was 104 steps up (yes I counted) and although I considered them workouts, try doing it in the scorching midday sun after 2 dives carrying all your gears. It was quite an experience. There's a dive shop right across the street, and restaurants which serve good breakfast option. Staff were nice, and the restaurant is open from breakfast to dinner, and the food there was pretty good. It's a bit far from any beach, but I was there for diving, so I was cool with the location. You can always walk to Taaras beach or the one beside it for a good 15 minutes.
Although the package of room is quite cheap, but there would be amount of charges for other services including shutter service with a charge of RM20 at the moment you check in, excluding of meals and snorkeling with different charge. The location is ok, if you don't mind walking to the nearest beach at around 15 mins. The room and bathroom are neat and estaurant in the resort are clean too. Staff service attitude is ok, but not informative. Everything is need to ask to get the answer, and somehow no time table for snorkeling because charge is expensive in the morning session than the afternoon session. Because I miss out the afternoon session before a day, hence I have no choice to choosing the morning session. (For me morning and afternoon is same kind of hot weather) Basically the facilities is satisfy, except TV with lesser channels, and noisy aircon. Disappointed that there is no laundry services as mention in the webpage of Agoda. But overall experience is fair.
Relatively cheap accomadation on an expensive island.”
Good location to walk to best beach on island and see a little of village. Good cheap restaurant across the road. Lots of stairs so be prepared for hike to room. Visited my group of monkeys right outside our door. Be nice if hotel provided free transport from pier to hotel but they did provide transport when leaving in cost of stay. Not really that cheap but every accommodation on the island was a lot more and not as near the best beach.
A cheap paradise :)”
We don't love big resorts and 5* hotels, we prefer to live with local people... and that's what we found at Derimba. The hotel is pretty new, the room is comfortable and spacious, you have private entrance and balcony, and a big window with a fantastic mountain view. Staff is super! The girls are smart and nice, very very very helpful (thank you girls!!) Breakfast with pancakes and fresh juices is wonderful, and so the restaurant is pretty good. Anyway, there are also other places and shops at a walking distance, if you like to change every day. The public beach is very closed to the hotel : you only need to walk along a path in the jungle for ten minutes to reach a big beach with white sand and blue see, never crowded ... always peaceful. You can also book an unforgettable snorkeling tour and rent a motorbike to visit the small village nearby. We had a great experience there... once again thanks so much!
The location is 20 to 25 minutes to the only beach reachable.. Nice beach but nothing special. In case you want to get to long Beach that is just 15 min by boat, they charge you 150 ringgit (!!!)! They charged me 10 ringgit for a transfer from the pier (3km): when I found this guy I asked him how much it coast and he said me free, organized by the resort. I don't mind to pay the transfer but you should advise me first and not say is free. The hotel is under renovation. Zero respect for those who are paying money for what is a called a vacation. So loud since 8 am or even before! The room was clean (nobody cleaned the room in 4 days) and you have to walk 60 to 100 steps to reach the bungalow. Disappointed
Good place for adventure”
It was pleasant enough. The hotel condition is not that bad. The receptionist could speak English and friendly. We were picked up from the port and transported to the hotel where we have to pay RM30 for the return trip. We were not aware but it's reasonable. The driver is also accommodating. The hotel is very close to Taaras Resort Redang which is the best hotel in the island. If you don't have the budget then this is a good choice. The beach is 10 minutes walk from the hotel but be prepared for a forest adventure as you might encounter some unusual animals there. The Aiman Seafood Grill restaurant is the best place to eat near the hotel. It is very dark to walk during the night time as lamp post are not available in all areas. Overall, I couldn't complain for what i've paid for.
Lousy food, but 5 mins to the Taaras”
1) If you need to be near the Taaras, in case the latter is full, this is an ok place. 2) The room at the top is great especially in the morning, 6-7am... WOW! 3) Only drawbacks: a) you get too much exercise going up the stairs when you get back late at night... ;-p b) the morning breakfast is nothing to shout about. They charge about RM30 for buffet breakfast for 2 ;-)
Not worth it”
The room is ok in size, but there is barely no natural light from windows. There is also strange smell in rooms and the shower is COLD water only. There is also a note that every room has small water tank that will be filled daily. Even though we didn't run out of water (who enjoys cold showers anyway?), I was always super scared washing my hair thinking the water will run out next second. We stayed for 6 nights and only after 4th night they offered to clean our room (so on the 5th day). The wifi in the hotel is horrible, no wifi in the rooms was known to us, but the reception wifi is bad and most of the time the line is down. Also they turn off the wifi line after reception is closed at 7PM, close the gate so if you are thinking of sitting in reception in the evening then forget about it. The mobile internet is also bad in the island, slightly better in long beach where we were able to get signal. the hotel think the wifi is complimentary as you don't "pay" for it...
good place to support local business”
nice hotel, near beautiful beach, we had a chance to see turtles near the beach during our visit!
Accommodation was pretty basic. There were no amenities within the resort apart from WiFi. ”
There was a pool table but it was broken. Food was available in their restaurant as were bottled water and snacks but st exorbitant prices. We had our food at the local restaurant across the road from the resort.
Disapppointed. Will never come again.”
Location: Too far from the beach. Have to go up & down hillss. 15 minutes agony walk or have to rent motorcycle or bike. Even if u rent one, the ride is dangerous. The road is in horrible condition. Many accidents happened according to local people at the beach. Value for money? NO. Upon arrival they will charge you RM30 extra for transport from jetty to resort which is not informed beforehand. Rm60 motorcycle rental & RM30 bicycle rental per day. If u dont rent, u will have to walk to the beach which is so far away with hilly road. Plus, check out at 11 am, transport will arrive at 12pm. We asked for extension of time, they allow us to check out at 11.30 but at 11 am sharp, electricity in the room is cut off. Who on earth will stay in a hot & dark room? So we check out at 11 anyway. Room:Broken wardrobe & sinki. Ants everywhere: in the room & at the balcony. Dirty pillow case. Sandy bed. No kettle. At night, it is dark outside. The food is bad. Definitely not coming back.
Bad location, terrible service, dirty rundown room”
Beware, this resort is not located at long beach. It's at a isolated place on the island, u can't reach long beach, where the music n beer at. We were shocked that we even had to walk so far to reach a small beach. They might call it exclusive beach,in fact it's just a small beach frequented by local people. Not much facilities there, only a few tents. We left our towel and bag under one tent n went to swim. When we were About to leave, some local villagers suddenly approached us n wanted collect RM10 For using the tent, but nobody informed us of that beforehand! It's such a rip off. They could charge you any amount I guess. With awkward location like this, u would expect the resort to make it up with their service. Not the case. Upon our arrival, the hotel staff insisted we need to pay RM20 for shuttle service, which we were not informed earlier. The room is so dirty, the bathroom door was broken, the bed linen sm
Great value for money compared to other resorts. Beautiful teluk dalam Besar beach is 15min walk or rm30 for return trip for 4. No matter how many trips you make, it's going to be far cheaper than other beach front resort.

Facilities and accessility”
The place was ok. We need to climb up and down the stairs. There is no water water heating facility. The toilet water heater is not working. The place is not suitable and friendly to disabled people. Not suitable for long trip.
