My wife and I traveled from Yangon to Ngwe Saung Beach for a four day personal retreat. We live in and travel extensively in Asia and spend many more days in a hotel than at home. Since we travel so often we generally choose mid-range properties but sometimes stay in 5 star or even 2 star hotels. We read the Reviews of hotels to get a sense about the place we are going to stay. Eskala had good reviews, but honestly, this property was one of the best I have stayed at in years. The staff was well trained and it is evident that the management was investing in staff training and more importantly in maintenance and upkeep of the facility. We walked the beach every day and this one had the best maintained beach of all of the beachfront properties in this stretch of beach. We had a small problem with the A/C one evening but the staff immediately worked to resolve the issue. Our respect to Ya Min who had the title of Bellboy but demonstrated excellent management skills in assisting in this. Our stay was in September, Rainy Season, and we expected the food service to be decreased but we found the Food to be excellent. More 5 star than 4 star. Htun Htun Oo and staff did an exemplary Job even though the hotel was not full. Food presentation and timing was first class and the portions were generous. We were also impressed with the Front desk manager Nao Nao Hnin Wai who checked us in and out and assisted us as we were interested in local attractions. The Pool was exceptionally large for a 60 unit property and very well maintained. Overall, the stay exceeded our expectations. Would recommend this property to anyone traveling to this beach.

This was a great stay. We stayed with our two young children and the staff treated them very well. All that said, some of the amenities (especially breakfast) was disappointing. Coffee was very bad and food selection for breakfast is not representative of a four star establishment. There seems to be a trend in Myanmar that, as long as you're 'good enough' of an establishment, you somehow get 4-5 stars, when anywhere else in the world it would be 3-4 stars. But, hey, if you go to Ngwe Saung, and you have the $ to spend, this is the best place to stay. I've tried to be honest, clear, and accurate in this review. Like I said, a good place to go...we'll probably be back. Is it the best or worthy of the 5* rating? No.

The facilities and amenities of the Akariz Resort were excellent and of international standard, especially considering that Chaung Thar is not often frequented by foreign travelers. We stayed in the one of the rooms in the main building block with a balcony overlooking the central gardens. It was clean and well-apportioned, however, the cabins looked particularly wonderful. Breakfast buffet was delicious and generous, and we ended up taking most of our meals in the hotel. The hotel opens up right to the beach, of course, but if you prefer not to swim in the ocean there is a nice pool overlooking the water as well. Finally, the staff were courteous and very helpful, even booking us a private taxi back to Yangon in time to catch a same-day flight; not an easy thing to round up in Chaung Thar on a weekend. Please note that power cuts out for a portion throughout the day, and the wifi is not very fast, but this is normal for Chaung Thar.

The rooms are nice and spacious. It does make a lot of difference where in the hotel you are. The neighbours on the South side have a generator that makes a thundering noise day and night... Unbearable! So choose a room far away from the South end of the place. The bar has no idea how to make a cocktail; the drinks that they offer are very bad, except the whisky sour and the rum sour. There is a restaurant, but it doesn't really function (no problem though, there are plenty other places in the village). The breakfast is disappointing.

The rooms we booked were unavailable due to some renovation works and they put us at Sunny Paradise side. They said we have been upgraded and we thank them for that arrangement but the so called upgraded rooms are worn down and need immediate renovation.

We have visited BoB 5 times during the last 7 years. We have visited BoB 5 times during the last 7 years. We still love the place, the staff and the unique atmosphere in the bright and airy buildings (great architecture!), which are well maintained over many years (which is naturally difficult on that place!). The rising problems seem to be more outside the hotel: From the beach you quite often suffer from loud music (ever so often repeating the same tunes) of 3 different sources at the same time at least. Motorbikes and quads (officially forbidden...) are loud and smelly. On several evenings you find yourself surrounded by evilly stinking smoke clouds of (plastic) garbage beeing burned off in the village. The hotel management is well aware of these (rising) problems, and we wish them all the best to make their point with the head of the village!

I had the whole female dorm to myself which was great (I got to stretch and have a mini without in the morning). The form are basic, just a bed (no net, but I had no with mosquitoes). Toilet is downstairs and shower is a bit far but was no problem for me. You'll have to get a motorbike or tuk tuk (3,000 kyat) there since it's too far to walk. The staff were sweet and the breakfast was great! Rice or noodles. I arrived at 4am (since the bus arrives then) and they let me check in.

2 nights turned into 4, which turned into 7. It is just across the street from the beach and thus prices are fantastic. Breakfast is made to order each morning and a spread of more food than you need is served. The rooms are large and spacious, modern as it just opened and the swimming pool is clean. Grounds are well kept and the staff is fantastic! Cleaning staff still could work on their English, but there is always someone available if necessary. I highly recommend Ayeyarwady. The investment is from Yangon not foriegn so the money stays in the country if that is important to you, and one of the investment managers was their and personally greeted us and inquired about our stay. There was a going away party for a woman who had worked for the hotel group for 15 years and we were invited to join with food, cake, etc.

The food in the restaurant was very good, too. The breakfasts were ok - a limited choice but everything fresh and tasty. The dinners (we ate there twice) were a real feast - plenty of food, best quality and top class service. The staff in the hotel was just outstanding: the rooms cleaned twice a day, housekeeping coming in the evening to spray the rooms with anti-mosquito and bring some evening treat (a fruit or a cake), restaurant staff very well trained and professional, everybody extremely helpful and always smiling. Thank you very much - we had a truly wonderful stay!

We stayed 3 nights at the end of january in the beach view loft room. Great option for budget travelers. Room was spacious with air conditioning, hot water, fridge and king sized bed. Excellent facilities including a beautiful pool and lots of nice lounge chairs. The beach was clean, quiet and even had a life guard. The staff and service were great, received the same treatment as Yacht Club guests as they are through the same hotel. The best part was the huge tasty buffet breakfast. Highly recommend. They also have a restaurant called North Point a little on the far side of the resort, it seemed to not be well advertised but was delicious and much more affordable than their main restaurant. They will even drive you there in a golf cart.

The hotel is at the far end of the beach. This means it is a little bit far from town and other hotels, but it also means that it is nice and quiet and you get the beach to yourself. The hotel staff were very accommodating and help our large family figure out a way to stay in one room together. The food was fine and inexpensive. Overall a great place!

Beach and clear water are better than expected. Room is very clean. Staff are the best we have seen not only in Ngwe Saung but also all the hotels in Myanmar. The only thing is the hotel is at the southern most inNgwe Saung and far from the main village. But it’s good for the people who prefer a quiet place.

We spent at the hotel only one night as we arrived at Ngwe Saung one day earlier than planned and the hotel we stayed the remaining five days was fully booked for that date. But we used to come to Soe Ko Ko every day of our holidays - for a dinner or just to chat with Aung (the manager). But we used to come to Soe Ko Ko every day of our holidays - for a dinner or just to chat with Aung (the manager). The hotel is made of bamboo tree and nicely decorated in a Myanmar national style. The hotel has a chef who cooks good food, Tom Yam Goong was best we tried in Myanmar. Tempura prawns were also delicious. One day Aung arranged a special dinner for us - he bought a big fish from local fishermen and his chef cooked it perfectly. The price for this nice dinner was more than modest. The hotel's staff is very friendly and helpful but speaks very little English. The hotel's owner, Aung's father, did a favour and delivered us to Yangon when our holiday came to an end. Our room was basic but cozy and we had electricity during whole of the day. One possible inconvenience is that the hotel lacks hot water but we did not consider it as a huge problem. The hotel is located a bit outside the village (in a quiet and safe place) but it only takes 5-7 minutes to get it. The beach is in 5 minutes distance from the hotel. We recommend Soe Ko Ko if you are looking for an authentic, well managed and and reasonably priced accomodation in Ngwe Saung.

The hotel is really in the center of Pathein, everything is close. Hotel looks modern, we had small clean room with many windows. Bathroom was ok, comfortable bed, AC working, nice view. Hotel do not have classic restaurant, but have room service, so you can order delicious food to your room :) Very friendly stuff, we will come back :)

We were traveling during NYE and had a hard time finding accommodations to pre-book in Chaungtha Beach. Then we saw that one bungalow was still available at Hill Garden Hotel and booked it even though we could find few reviews. I wanted to write this review because we were amazed at what we got for the price. The hotel is relatively new and fairly small with only 9 bungalows at the property. It is located about 1.5km north of the main road in Chaungtha Beach past the sister Shwe Hin Tha hotel (owned by Belgians). So the only downside is that you need a bike to get to/from the main strip in town with all the restaurants (or the staff can arrange motorbike rides down to the sister hotel on the main road for 500 kyat each way). But it is totally worth it to stay here regardless as the setting is beautiful with all bungalows overlooking gardens and banana trees with a view of the beach and town in the distance. We stayed in bungalow #9. It was brand new with all new beautiful wood furnishings and a huge brand new beautiful bathroom inside as well as an outdoor patio with seating. We had a huge comfortable king-size bed with a pretty net and the staff added a couple mattresses and another net next to it to accommodate the 3 of us. The included breakfast was one of the best we had for accommodations in this price range in Myanmar. Besides your typical eggs, you actually get an option of a banana pancake. There is always some good fruit and snacks as well. The staff couldn't be more helpful. They are always available and happy to help with any need. You can also book trips and bus tickets through them for very good rates. And you can use free WiFi at the sister hotel down the road. The only downside I can think of is the quality of the bikes they have for rent. Considering the fact that you actually need them to get around when staying here, I hope they will upgrade to newer better-maintained bikes to several speeds and baskets for convenience of the gu

Bathroom good but smelly. There was no price list for the minibar. On arrival reception staff gave no information except to inform there was no power between 6am to 6pm. Cosidering the heat this was not good news. Not sure if this is occurs at all times. As it happened we did have power between 1pm to 4pm everyday. The best part was the open air restaurant adjacent the beach. A excellent buffet breakfast was served here. Restaurant and cleaning staff were excellent although a lack of English spoken by staff made communication difficult. The resort patrons are mostly from Yangon. Except for the lack of ac at times it was a pleasant 3 day stay but not a lot to do. The beach by Australian standards was average. Water quite muddy.

The beach is very clean and completely empty. The area around is pretty quiet as the hotel is not directly in the village but a little bit up north. The breakfast is delicious. When there are enough guests, they will provide a buffet with western and asian breakfast. Staff is very nice and helpful but communication is not easy as they do not really speak english. But you can always communicate somehow. There are a lot of mosquitos, I would recommend to bring a mosquito net with you as it is not provided by the hotel. We stayed for 1 week and it was all in all a great, very relaxing vacation, which I would definitely recommend to anyone!

Great location, clean, comfortable and nice views. The communication is difficult with the staff due to limited English (but they are really kind) so I'll run down a few things. You shouldn't pay more than 2,000 from the bus station to the hotel via a motorbike taxi, more expensive for a car though. Around 1,000 to travel anywhere within the city. 50 one way boat ride ...

Breakfast was okay, not great and no variety for different days but nice view. Also the drinks in the fridge are very reasonable. Good wifi as well. Recommend.

This hotel definitly doesn't feel like 5 stars, at the best I would say 3. We came in exhausted and it took the staff forever to get us to our room. The rooms were Ok but nthg fancy. Their breakfast can have more variation. All in all a meager stay considering we didn't have better options.

Entire staff and management polite, friendly, eager to assist and give recommendations. 24 hr service. Great performing AC and wifi. Excellent laundry service. Two free bottles of water per day. Nice breakfast on the roof. Good location. No wonder I returned after a few days further afield.

Good location by the beach and away from busy centre, yet close by bike. The couple who own the massage parlour next door are ADORABLE, with the sweetest kids. I highly recommend the Thai massage and to just hang out with them, they are great. They are building dorms now which look pretty cool, for those who want a cheaper stay. Only downside was WiFi was bad, but data is so cheap...Don't tate to go here! Oh and they have the cutest happiest Dog in Myanmar!

We loved our stay at Forest home. Bungalows are spacious and you have a nice size porch to sit on and enjoy amazing sunsets. Family who owns the place is very kind and helpful, it really felt like staying with our own family. Family who owns the place is very kind and helpful, it really felt like staying with our own family. They have very friendly doggy that slept on our porch most of the nights and wiggled his tail the moment we returned from the beach :). Beach is very close; max 10min walk, and that's if you walk very slow, you can really see the sea from your porch. Breakfast was nice and filling, and for dinner, there is a seafood restaurant nearby and some 15min walk there is a cafe and restaurant with fire show every night. The electricity is only available through generator from 6pm til 6am, but that is actually wonderful if you want to "disconnect" a bit. Overall, I would stay again here, and I regret not booking more nights! I really hope this place survives in the sea of big resorts that are poping around it.... it is really a rough gem :).

A single room quality equivalence to the jail cell. When I check the bath room it was even worst. So I asked for the better room he shows me slightly better condition but in the twice price but one thing they were in common was, the rooms very dirty. So I decided to hire local motorbike to find me the new room just few hundreds metres away. I got the air condition with attached bathroom, it was better than his air condition but the price even less than the half. I immediately rush back to collect my pack to the new hotel discard my money that I paid through paypal. I would suggest to agoda to remove this hotel from the list.

2 nights turned into 4, which turned into 7. It is just across the street from the beach and thus prices are fantastic. Breakfast is made to order each morning and a spread of more food than you need is served. The rooms are large and spacious, modern as it just opened and the swimming pool is clean.

The manager of this hotel made my trip amazing. He set up a motorbike for me to do to Ngwesaung for a fare price, booked my bus ticket back to Yangon (at cheaper than I could find!) and was very accommodating for references for meals etc... No great view but close to the beach. I'd definitely stay again!

the most friendly stuff! some of the cheaper rooms might need some light refurnishing. breakfast was ok - they try their best. food in the restaurant is good. the only thing which should really get improved is to provide seating possibilities with shadow at the beach!!

The beach was beautiful. I was the only foreigner there which was nice!

I found the front desk to be generally neglected to the point where the room keys just lay on the desk for anyone to grab to just let yourself in. The manager and other people are around, they just may not be working. The manager and other people are around, they just may not be working. For example, the manager will be out front talking on the phone and see you come in but will not get up to help you with your key or offer you any assistance. Also, this hotel was not helpful in getting to know the area either. I asked about bus tickets and things to do and was just told to walk around and find a place. Also, the Wi-Fi was out the entire time I stayed which was three days. This was a HUGE INCONVENIENCE. There was an internet café down the road a little but I discovered that on my own and it was cheap and definitely a life saver. The hotel seems unapologetic about the lack of internet eventhough other hotels in the area did not seem to have problems with it like this place. The hotel is in good shape being relatively new, but there is only power from 6pm - 6am like the rest of the town. The hotel is not far from the bus dropoff, it is just a few minutes walk, although the locals will tell you it's 10 min to get you to pay for a ride. It really is a short little walk. It is close to the beach but not on the beach. The path beside the hotel to the beach is gross and there are no chairs on the beach to use. The other hotels on the beach provide chairs so I would recommend staying at one of those. I would assume the would provide more helpful service as well. The Lux next door is on the beach and seem like the better deal.

The rooms we booked were unavailable due to some renovation works and they put us at Sunny Paradise side. They said we have been upgraded and we thank them for that arrangement but the so called upgraded rooms are worn down and need immediate renovation.

Great helpfull stuff and very frindly people. Good food and Clean the people take care well of the garden end the envoriment. They know what to do and what to recomend to the Guest. Helpful with booking for the future Trips and planing. Every time i will go there Again.

4-star hotels in Ayeyarwady

No.
