Where to stay in Bay of Plenty
Bay of Plenty hotels & accommodations
We stayed 3 nights, the staff started the heater in the room before we arrived, that was really lovely since it was quite cold (May). The room is big, it had a spa on the terrace. The staff was super friendly, they booked some activities for us around Rotorua, gave us advice and plenty of coupons too. We ended up staying at Quest also in Napier and Auckland.
It is located very near i-site which tour shuttle buses are. Walking distance to food street and if you walk further down, there is a beautiful harbour which might have event during weekends. I happened to come across Moscow circus and there is a banner stating Gypsy fair during weekend. Very near government garden (just next to it). Walking distance to Polynesian spa ...
This was our third Rotorua visit and by far the best one, the location even though 20 mins outside of the city Centre was just great, lodges very modern, spacious, clean and the resort itself had lots of activities to keep the kids busy while the adults rest after a day out. A well kept little haven would highly recommend. The only disappointment for us was the restaur...
We were pleasantly surprised with how nice this hotel/hostel was. The woman at check in was very nice and even changed our reservation so that our group could stay in one room together. They had free tea and coffee near the reception desk. When we got to our room, our beds were crisp and clean, as with the rest of the room. House cleaning even came in in the morning to...
My daughter and I booked online for 3 nights at $120 per night for a superior room with 2 queen beds. The room looked good, but had no air-conditioning. It was unbelievably stifling after a hot day and the windows would only open a few centimetres. The hotel was fully-booked with large bus tour groups. To their credit, a room was found for us, with air-con, after I sto...
We used this hotel for our wedding night which had originally been planned for a Friday. But due to inclement weather being forecast for the Friday we decided to bring the wedding forward to the Tuesday. Both the hotel and Agoda responded to the change of booking without any issues. The room was clean, well equipped, spacious and with a great dual aspect view over the ...
Well located, just a short stroll to information centre, a large shopping precinct, restaurants, the Polynesia Pools, and the old Government House. It was easy to find, very new, clean, and the beds super comfortable. We had one of the detached King sized rooms, not situated in the main building, which made it easy because we could park the car at our front door. Bre...
My friend and I stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment at the Cleveland Motel for 3 nights at the end of January. The apartment was very clean and comfortable and had everything we wanted for a short self catered stay. Marilyn was looking after things while the owners were away and she was a joy to deal with. She helped us organise some day trips going out of her way to co...
The room was spacious and spotless with an enormous bathroom. As with most of Rotarua, you do get the rotten egg smell but it's not overpowering. A fan would have been nice as the heater/air con(?) on the wall doesn't seem to help with reducing the temperature. The car park is a bit tight so wouldn't be suitable for a campervan if you were having a night off shower blo...
We have stayed in this resort during one of the weekends in October 2016. Our booking was absolutely last minute - as we really didn't plan to stay overnight in Rotorua, but it was getting late and we decided to book a place. So booking was done literally 2-3 hours before we came to check-in & gladly we had no problems with that. The rooms price was about $160 (deluxe ...
We can't fault Sport of Kings Motel as it was fantastic. From the moment I stepped through the door to check in I knew that the positive reviews I'd already read about this motel were right. The owners were so friendly and helpful and the facilities were above expectation. We stayed in room 1 which was 2 bedroom self contained, it had 4 single beds in 1 room and a ...
Fantastic views well worth paying the extra for a sea view . Best toiletrie products I have found in any hotel anywhere in the world . Very comfortable beds Would definitely recommend to anyone
This 5-star hotel experience is beyond our expectation. We booked the hotel for our 20th marriage anniversary, we are so merrily surprised that James has gave us free upgrade to the amazing superior suite. We love every moments we stayed at this hotel. Its garden view is breath-taking; the room is spacious, clean and comfortable. James greeted us at the stairs when o...
We were very much impressed by the friendliness of the owner couple. Our check in was quick and we could even check in earlier than the usual time, which was great. The room was comfortable and clean. The host was happy to give us info. about what to visit in Rotorua and quick in helping us to book a tour to Mitai Maori Village, which is highly recommended. I love the ...
we travelled to tauranga for the anz netball championships and found this hotel to be really comfortable and the staff very helpful. the location was fantastic and it was really easy to drive around the town from this venue. there were lots of cafes and bars close by for meals and copies of their menus were provided in the rooms. unfortunately we were not able to eat...
We had a fabulous time at the Black Swan. From the moment we got there, we were pampered by the owners. They helped us book activities and gave us some suggestions on activities to do while we were in town. The best part, a helicopter picked us up at the hotel on their helipad, and took us for a 3 hour tour of White Island. It was an incredible experience! The food w...
it was a great place to stay and location was excellent. Self serving breakfast was good as there was plenty of this. The only let down for this Motel was my room had been left unlocked after the cleaners had been in. I am not sure if i will stay with them again because of this
been traveling in new zealand and australia and stayed in several hotels around the same price or higher. by far the best room, clean large and having all that you need (inc good free wifi). the owners, who also run the hotel are really pride on their hotel and give you the feeling of being more than welcome. if available, just pick this hotel.
This is the best hotel I ever stayed in so far for booking done under agoda. The hotel was located near numbers of restaurants and a good walking distance to the town and information building where we can make all the enquiry of trips. Most of all the hotel is just located next to the Rotorua lake and the lake front and also with free internet at the lobby. Staff we ...
because of my travel time during these days, not popular. so really few people. really beautiful and clean rooms, friendly staff, offered with delicious dinner just, comfortable beds, really clean and beautiful bathrooms and kitchen. all is really great. like brand-new. it's the best yha ever......
Hotel was clean and good parking right in town center around heaps of shops.customer service was allgood.the hotel had built in toilet abit awkward because it in the middle of the room it need to be seperate otherwise 5 star
One of the best hotel i have lived so far, not because it is a luxury brand, there are, however, so many surprise during my visiting. this is a family business, and the owner is so helpful and so kindness. Answered all of my questions and even help me to book the tour with discount. Also, close to shopping the biggest shopping center in town. absolutely fabulous !!! hi...
What I love about this hotel is that the parking is right at the door of your apartment. It's really important for me because it made loading and unloading the luggages so easy. The apartment is big and spacious for the 3 of us. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to cook. It even has a jacuzzi(!) but I'm just too beat to try it. It is located a few m...
We enjoyed our short stay immensely. Room was great. Host directed us to one of the best eating experiences we have had in Rotorua and for that matter, Auckland. Capers was the name. The motel is close to all the main places of interest, easy to find and really, not far from the lake. For two people, it was really fine and we would not hesitate to book again. Next tim...
Room came with double beds and very spacious. Front desk staff were really helpful in providing information on tours and sightseeing around Rotorua. Check in was fast within 5 mins. You can park your car at the back, if not available there are plenty of free parking at the road in front of the hotel. Breakfast is recommended as they have quite a number of choices like ...
Room a good size, plenty of room for baggage etc. bed luxuriously divine, self-catering services adequate, bathroom amenities adequate - shower over bath beginning to show signs of ageing. Linen & toiletries supply excellent. Everything was beautifully clean and well maintained. daily room services excellent. Room service, front office, bar and restaurant staff were abs...
receptionist was awesome! great for a cheap stay. Had a room with hot tub, place was quite run down and old could do with a revamp. If your not too fussy would be ok as has everything you need, sky, wifi etc but everything is outdated. Hot tub was good one filled up & a good size too..& good location aswell i found, for a decent n cheap place to sleep its good aslong as ...
Had a superb stay at city suites! As I'd come from Australia and didn't know the area, the staff were unbelievably helpful in every way, they made the stay alot easier! The hotel was only a 5 min walk from the bay and fantastic restaurants and nightlife. The room we had was huge! Massive bathroom! And my brother and I both had a king size bed each! The accommodation is...
The staff here are super friendly. There are lots of nice touches, such as free rice and pasta that you can use for your cooking in addition to free tea and coffee. There's a nice vibe in this hostel! Our room was a double room and it was comfortable and clean with plenty of room. It was nice to have free WiFi considering a lot of places unnecessarily charge! The host...
this motel is rather dated. it is situated on the southern outskirts of rotorua proper on fenton street. it is directly opposite the golf course and is also very close to "te puia" geothermal park. although old and a bit tired, the room was large and clean. there was a digital t.v. and wifi (not really effective). however, the large bed was very comfortable. ...

We had a private double, NOT ensuite. Our room was on second floor but there is a ramp, no stairs. We travel with small carry-ons. It was not a problem for us to roll these to our room. One backpacker complained that too many keys are too difficult for a backpacker to handle. Really? This person really gives bad names to all backpackers. This hostel gives you three key...
The best thing about this hostel is the staff. They were so nice and helpful and willing to answer any questions you had about what to do while you are in the area regardless of your budget. Most of the staff were travelers as well so they understand what you are looking for. They have parking in the back which is great if you have a rental car for NZ. The room I was s...
We find a really good deal on Agoda for the property and decided to book. We were a bit skeptical as it sounded a bit to good to be true, so we didn't have high expectations. We booked a backpacker cabin which is a small cabin with two bunk bed. We were check in at the reception by a really helpful girl that showed us all the facilities and our room. She figured out we...
The location is great. The room is just right for us and we had a good rest. The common kitchen is helpful and plenty of room too.
Location was great! right next to the lake, food store. it also had free parking right outside and we never struggled to find a park. there were two kitchens and dining rooms so dinner was easy. There was also a jacuzzi however it was winter so we didn't really use it. pool tables, books, movies were available so it was a really fun stay with plenty to do. The staf...
The natural spa can make me want to stay there for 10 years! Also, the receptionist is fun and cool! All the best to your job hunting!
Best Backpacker in Mount Maunganui just near the beach and the Mount. The staff is really nice and you can rent surf and bicycle for cheap. The 16 dorm might be a little but expensive but the place is really cool !
Kind staff and owners. Hostel is basically a guy's house with a bunch of small container units he built in the backyard and turned into rooms. Campers with tents use the area too. Clean rooms, kitchen, and bathrooms. If you are gonna do a dolphin cruise book it through them to save some money.
Good for Short Term Stay, not good for long term stay
Hotel was clean and good parking right in town center around heaps of shops.customer service was allgood.the hotel had built in toilet abit awkward because it in the middle of the room it need to be seperate otherwise 5 star
We were sad to leave. It was comfortable and close to everything important in Rotorua.
i been late at there. the staff still came and serve me. nice
There has a lot of plug inside the room it's really good for a group to stay together. A heater is available in the room, recommend going back again.
The staff was amazing and very friendly. Ruby deserves a pay rise!
Excellent camping group could not fault it for location friendliness and cleanilness
Super clean, spacious shared areas, comfortable bedding, overall great condition and good value for a property of this size, type and price point. Rooms had the basic essentials like a luggage rack, plenty of power points, hooks and individually controlled heating, and provided a peaceful nights sleep. Shared bathrooms are big, shower hot water pressure is strong, and...
They were overbooked . They had to run around looking for a room as they were overbooked by the booking agent and that was after phoning them two days prior to confirm the booking. The room was very dirty. They had to vacuum the room before we could go in. We had to ask for more sheets as the bedding was too dirty. Thanks to the unfriendly guy who helped us.we wer...
We arrived and the manager greeted us,told us about the highlights and was interested in what we wanted to see. Made bookings for us at the 'Mattai" Village for the evening dinner and show. We were picked up at the Hotel, the Maoris showed us how it used to be they sang, joked and gave us a lot of information in the form of stories. Then we were escorted to the Hangi a...
An excellent stay although when I first saw the facade, I thought I'd made the wrong choice. Andy, the owner, came to introduce himself on the second day of my stay. Very friendly and approachable. I asked the reception about laundry and was most surprised that I got to use the washer and dryer for free! In all my travels, this is a first. The self-catering facilities ...
Pros: Clean, friendly, basic room, nice pool. Cons: a long way from town. I was a bit surprised at the cost especially mid winter when it was nearly empty, paid $144 per night and can get a 4-5 star good hotel in town for around $90 per night, I should have shopped around! Thats my only gripe, otherwise a nice place.
I've been going to Omokoroa for years, I always look forward to my stay there. Facilities and cabins are extreamly clean, and grounds spotless. Perfect size holiday park. Love soaking in the mineral hot pools and biking or walking the board walk at the rear of the camp.
Amazing. The cottage is on a mountain, with a kiwi grove, overlooking mountains, the ocean, amazing gardens surround the cottage. The outdoor hot tub is wonderful. Sitting under the stars at night with a glass of wine and having dinner on the deck, looking at the beauty, listening to all the birds, turkeys, sheep and cows. A romantic, beautiful place.
very comfortable and affordable accommodation. will stay here again without hesitation
Host were super nice they already heat up the room before we arrived and also they had shampoo and soap available too not a lot of motels now a days have that. They were really good and was willing to go extra miles for us. Make sure you bring an ear plug as because it is around town you will definately hear the night Tauranga Vibe ;) love the restaurants walking dis...

My stay at Devonwood was lovely! It was an awesome surprise to come back after I had been out all day and find fresh towels and my bed made - I wasn't expecting that as I am used to leaving a sign on the door for cleaning if needed. The bathroom could do with more ventilation as it can get quite steamy in there and there is no power outlet for a straightener or curler....
We were a little early and appreciated very much the friendly staff allowing us to go into the room. The room is well used and could do with some money spent on it but all in all our one night stay was a pleasant one and we felt it was ok value
Beautiful place, clean, had everything you need for a short trip..would stay again next time I'm in the area.

The unit was spotless, staff very friendly and plenty of hot water for our private spa. Have stayed there several times and will continue to do so.
Awesome place to stay if you're in a group or with a family of 4. The villas are inside another resort so it was confusing at first, but the setting of he villas is charming. It is by the lake with each of the villa balcony facing the man made canal. You can borrow Sheree's kayak to play around the lake. Plenty of facilities inside the villa: washing/drying machine, ...
toni and glen were very friendly and helpful, we could only stay two nights and asked their advice on what to see etc. when we had chosen the activities toni booked the tours for us. the rooms and bedding were spotless. the spa bath, set in our own private courtyard was great, filling it from the tap meant the temperature was ones own choice, a great way to relax af...
We were a group of 4, initially we booked the spa room, coz the picture showed us there will be 2 bedrooms. When we checked in, the spa room turned out only has 1 bedroom with 3 beds, and another bed at level 1 living room. We spoke to the receptionist if we can change to 2 bedrooms suite, and glad that receptionist accomodated our request. Stayed for 1 night only, d...
I found the hotel very good as the owners run the hotel well, you tell it was privately owned as they went above and beyond. They even offered transport into the city if you wanted to go out for a drink. The bathroom had a nice big spa in it which was good to relax in after a day of walking around.
The location is convenient enough (super market, burger king etc just a coner away), the stuffs are very friendly and sweet! 中文也可以通喔! The room is so cozy, that you can feel the thoughtfulness of the owner (if you’re someone who cares about the quality of sleep, just fyi that the bed is very comfortable). Stayed for 4 days then headed to Auckland, then just miss the qui...
This was the best of the motels we stayed. The owners and staff served us with their hearts and made the stay a comfortable one. They were free with their advice. Friendly and helful (they told us in advance that there would be a shortage of staff on Christmas as it was the holidays and this assisted our planning).

Great location. Only stayed 1 night on a business trip. Right opposite the beach and the Mount. Staff were very welcoming and held full. Plenty of cafes and dining place right next door.
professional staff-kind, helpful, pleasant, an asset facilities- 6 star and better than holiday inn or heritage hotel value for money----very good price location very good on main road my experience of 100 hotels over 15 years in three continents----. i will strongly recommend this to anyone
the motel was clean and newly renovated which was a plus but the room was a bit small. the man at reception was very helpful and friendly with tips on things to do in rotorua and surrounds. as other people have probably mentioned, there were roadworks at the front of the motel when we visited but we weren't bothered by them. the hotel is very close to some of the free ...
this is the best accomodation you can find! genuinely friendly kiwi family as hosts, nice spa and pool, 5 min from the beach, you can't get any better!
Wonderful family break away. Had beautiful weather and thoroughly enjoyed walking around the corner to pilot bay to watch thr cruise ships leave port.

Everything of the above, staff brilliant
Enjoyed the stay. staff friendly happy to point out things to do places to eat. motel fresh new and had all the equipment to make it a pleasant stay. A 5 minute walk to range of restaurants and main shopping center but still felt like an oasis in the middle of suburbia.
being a frequent traveller with my family, we have stayed in plenty of motels across OZ & NZ. Aquarius motel at Tauranga was the best we had stayed at. Paula greeted us upon our reach, check in was instant. I took the Large studio room and it was huge and clean. bed was super comfy, better than couple of 5 star hotels I have stayed. value for money!...
The staff member that greeted us was absolutely lovely ,the apartment was as advertised the bed was so comfortable ther was also a heat pump and the tv had all the sky channels , however Agoda should have also advertised that ther would be lots of demolition work going on directly under your balcony and that your outlook would be a crater the size of the hotel you are...
The staff were friendly supportive & helpful, very clean facilities & quite a few recycling/ rubbish bins at convenient locations, the laundry facility is state of the art, love the spa bath, the beach side cabins are beautiful & this resort is handy to shopping malls, great for family & wedding.. Blue Biyou restaurant next door is a bonus, we can't wait to get back do...
We spent 3 nights at Chris and Dave’s place and could not have been more pleased. We stayed at the Mokoia Room, and the view is to die for. It has floor to ceiling windows that overlook the beautiful Lake Rotorua. The room also opens to a lovely patio where you can just sit, relax, and enjoy the beautiful view. Chris and Dave are the most gracious hosts that we have ev...
Very nice room, full of zen, clean, modern minimalist, pretty much what you see on the picture is exactly what you get, even more. Heated towel rail, heater in room, bathroom, even heated blanket! This place is a gem. Yes, it's a bit out of town but it only takes about 10 mins to get into town. And it's well worth it. Christine and Louise were terrific hosts. The food was wonderful and the house is beautiful. The views of the valley and Lake Rotorua are enchanting. You may never want to leave the house. Christine loves her "garden" and there are flowers and tre...
The motel is about 5 minutes walk from the centre of Tauranga. We had a one bedroom apartment on the ground floor, it had plenty of room and there was even a lovely small garden we could use with a picnic bench. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The room and motel area were kept very clean. Would definitely stay here again.

We travelled in 4: 2 adults and 2 children under 13 years old. We took Superior 1-bedroom apartment for 3 nights. And we can say that this place was totally awesome. The room was spacious and clean. Ron and Lesley have been absolutely wonderful, they definitely made us very warm upon our arrival. Of all other accomodation we stayed in, Ron and Lesley’s definitely left us with the most memorable view and experience staying in a BnB. it exceptional., staff were very friendly, very helpful and their customer service was second to none. It’s a very cozy place and for a family with young children it catered for our every need. This apartment was excellent. Had everything you could need and made it all so easy. Could have benefited from ceiling fans but that would be my only gripe.
We had to cancel 2 nights of the 3 nights that we booked earlier, due to group arrangement. We had no trouble at all in the changes. Vicky and Michael were very accommodating and we are still feel very welcomed. The hotel itself and the service are fabulous. As it is a bit away from restaurants, it would be helpful if they provide information on meal delivery service a...
We had such a wonderful stay here. The place is luxurious and deserves five stars in all categories. However, more importantly, Kay is such a gracious hostess. Her simple but elegant cooking won our hearts. And not to forget Freddie, we felt sad leaving him and I'm sure he was sad as well, seeing us saying goodbye. If you want to have a truly romantic getaway in a luxu...
Staff member was a little unwelcoming at first but in later encounters was more satisfactory
This is what I always thought a B & B should be. This retired couple doesn't need the income, they simply love to meet people and socialize if the client wants. If you've been to Tuscany, you would love the whole neighbourhood, every house is brick and terra cotta, various palms and flowers, all manicured. I couldn't believe the facilities, we arrived on a hot muggy af...
Amazing stay very attentive staff we are already planning a longer visit back
We booked in for a weekend away.We arrived to our lakefront room and a cup of tea outside looking over the lake. Our accommodation was lovely. Played tennis on the court with one of the best views in the country. This is a great place to stay.
A nice and big cozy apartment with up to date facilities. Very relaxing environment
A very relaxing spot lakeside with kayaks and paddleboards to use . Very clean and stylish with lovely hosts .
The hosts, Leigh and mike are delightful, this is our second visit from Australia in two months we loved it so much, the rooms are simply beautiful, the view is spectacular, the food is delicious, we are looking forward to returning, definitely the best value for money, M.Bass Australia
Nice, helpful hosts. Very clean and comfortable. Easy access to great beach.
