Bay of Plenty hotels & places to stay

It is located very near i-site which tour shuttle buses are. Walking distance to food street and if you walk further down, there is a beautiful harbour which might have event during weekends. I happened to come across Moscow circus and there is a banner stating Gypsy fair during weekend. Very near government garden (just next to it). Walking distance to Polynesian spa (highly recommended). The hotel is the oldest around the area, a local told me it is haunted (stay away from room 26) which is mentioned online if you google (online states it’s room 29), i’m staying at room 1. However, no weird things happened during my stay. I dislike the wooden structure which the walking sound and other noises are very obvious. There is no lifts in the hotel, this is a 2 storey hotel, luckily i’m at level 1. The door lock is very old, not the electronic ones, they should upgrade it. Buffet breakfast option is limited but tasty. Love the ambience, suitable for couples.

This was our third Rotorua visit and by far the best one, the location even though 20 mins outside of the city Centre was just great, lodges very modern, spacious, clean and the resort itself had lots of activities to keep the kids busy while the adults rest after a day out. A well kept little haven would highly recommend. The only disappointment for us was the restaurant on site, we had to wait over an hour for breakfast, we were a party of 6 adults and 4 children, the first of our orders came out an hour after we ordered and they came out at different times, considering we were the only ones there, it was quite surprising. Apart from that we had a great stay.

We were pleasantly surprised with how nice this hotel/hostel was. The woman at check in was very nice and even changed our reservation so that our group could stay in one room together. They had free tea and coffee near the reception desk. When we got to our room, our beds were crisp and clean, as with the rest of the room. House cleaning even came in in the morning to make sure we had everything we needed. We stayed in an eight bed dorm and it ended up just being my group of three in the room for two nights which was very nice. There was FREE WiFi! No strings attached, unlimited, free WiFi, which was amazing. There was also a heated pool. I would definitely stay here again.

My daughter and I booked online for 3 nights at $120 per night for a superior room with 2 queen beds. The room looked good, but had no air-conditioning. It was unbelievably stifling after a hot day and the windows would only open a few centimetres. The hotel was fully-booked with large bus tour groups. To their credit, a room was found for us, with air-con, after I stood my ground. I found it very poor, however, that hotel rooms starting at $140 (their cheapest website price) would have no air-conditioning. If you book here, ensure a guaranteed one in summer! All else went well for our 3 days, in our new cooler room, with helpful staff and good housekeeping. We did not use the restaurant, as the prices were too high for any meal, including breakfast, for our budget. The hotel is very close to supermarket, Blue Baths, Gov Gardens and plenty of cafes. A walk further around the lake is delightful from here, with lots of bird life. Don't expect pretty views from the hotel though. The website photo of the blue lake in front is well and truly photoshopped!

We used this hotel for our wedding night which had originally been planned for a Friday. But due to inclement weather being forecast for the Friday we decided to bring the wedding forward to the Tuesday. Both the hotel and Agoda responded to the change of booking without any issues. The room was clean, well equipped, spacious and with a great dual aspect view over the river. There was a little noise from the highway/bridge over the river, but we didn't find that offensive. The bar and restaurant areas are light, airy and the staff very pleasant. Although we only stayed for breakfast we found the quality, choice and standard very good and reasonably priced. The location is good and within easy walking distance to the shops, bars and restaurants of Tauranga. Overall, we would recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there if we visited the area again

Well located, just a short stroll to information centre, a large shopping precinct, restaurants, the Polynesia Pools, and the old Government House. It was easy to find, very new, clean, and the beds super comfortable. We had one of the detached King sized rooms, not situated in the main building, which made it easy because we could park the car at our front door. Breakfast was a delight! A very wide selection of tasty items, enticingly presented, all very fresh, and everyone in the family found plenty they liked.

My friend and I stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment at the Cleveland Motel for 3 nights at the end of January. The apartment was very clean and comfortable and had everything we wanted for a short self catered stay. Marilyn was looking after things while the owners were away and she was a joy to deal with. She helped us organise some day trips going out of her way to come to the apartment, phone in hand, so we could talk to the tour operators. One morning we were sitting on the verandah waiting for a shuttle driver who was late and she phoned them for us without being asked..it turned out they were lost ! She also was very concerned when I mentioned that there were people using the pool at midnight one night (my room was next to the pool which closes at 10pm)and stayed up the following night to make sure it didn't happen again. The motel was a 10 - 15 minute walk from Eat St in Rotorua and the rest of town so was very handy as we didn't have a car. All in all it was a pleasant stay and I would use the hotel again.

The room was spacious and spotless with an enormous bathroom. As with most of Rotarua, you do get the rotten egg smell but it's not overpowering. A fan would have been nice as the heater/air con(?) on the wall doesn't seem to help with reducing the temperature. The car park is a bit tight so wouldn't be suitable for a campervan if you were having a night off shower blocks and communal kitchens. The couple we met on reception were lovely and run a great little place. It's a bit of a walk from the town centre but there's plenty of parking so driving in isn't an issue.

We have stayed in this resort during one of the weekends in October 2016. Our booking was absolutely last minute - as we really didn't plan to stay overnight in Rotorua, but it was getting late and we decided to book a place. So booking was done literally 2-3 hours before we came to check-in & gladly we had no problems with that. The rooms price was about $160 (deluxe studio). The room itself was fairly big and reasonably modern. I would say that the shower was spacious as well, but no bathtub. There were chairs outside of the rooms - sort of like a balcony deck, some of the guests were smoking there, and the smell actually sipped into the room a little. That wasn't that great, but you can live with it. Would be better to have a separate dedicated area for smokers though. The real plus in the hotel for me was hot bathtub and hot mineral pool as well as cold pool as part of the facilities. And of course a central location. We also ordered room service which came quite fast, the presentation of food was great and beef main course was really nice. I wasn't impressed with prawn and scallop started. Overall I would rate this resort 5.5-6 out of 10. But it's definitely so much better than Grand Rotorua hotel.

We can't fault Sport of Kings Motel as it was fantastic. From the moment I stepped through the door to check in I knew that the positive reviews I'd already read about this motel were right. The owners were so friendly and helpful and the facilities were above expectation. We stayed in room 1 which was 2 bedroom self contained, it had 4 single beds in 1 room and a queen bed in the main room. We had planned to be out each day of our 4 night stay but ended up having to spend quite a bit of time in the room as our son was sick. This didn't turn out to be bad as the lounge area was big enough that he could spread out on a lounge and watch movies the owners of the motel let us borrow. We didn't feel coupled up inside as the room was a good size. The kids loved the hot pool and spas too. We only ever stay at 4 plus star self contained apartments and this was one of the best we've stayed at.

This 5-star hotel experience is beyond our expectation. We booked the hotel for our 20th marriage anniversary, we are so merrily surprised that James has gave us free upgrade to the amazing superior suite. We love every moments we stayed at this hotel. Its garden view is breath-taking; the room is spacious, clean and comfortable. James greeted us at the stairs when our car arrived and he kindly carried our luggage to the room upstairs, he is so professional and reminds me of the Drama of "Abbey downton" . We'll cherish our unforgettable memory here at Hamurana Lodge Boutique Hotel. Thank you!

We were very much impressed by the friendliness of the owner couple. Our check in was quick and we could even check in earlier than the usual time, which was great. The room was comfortable and clean. The host was happy to give us info. about what to visit in Rotorua and quick in helping us to book a tour to Mitai Maori Village, which is highly recommended. I love the flowers and the home ambiance of the place.

we travelled to tauranga for the anz netball championships and found this hotel to be really comfortable and the staff very helpful. the location was fantastic and it was really easy to drive around the town from this venue. there were lots of cafes and bars close by for meals and copies of their menus were provided in the rooms. unfortunately we were not able to eat there because of our other commitments. the large room included a king size bed with a spa and also a couch. secure parking was included in the room tarrif which provided direct access to the hotel lobby. great for rainy weather. we loved the complimentory drinks on arrival. we had some issues with noise, which was followed up quickly once we advised our disappointment. our room was above reception, and i suggest requesting another room on the other side of the building (they also have views over the bay) if this happens to other travellers.

We had a fabulous time at the Black Swan. From the moment we got there, we were pampered by the owners. They helped us book activities and gave us some suggestions on activities to do while we were in town. The best part, a helicopter picked us up at the hotel on their helipad, and took us for a 3 hour tour of White Island. It was an incredible experience! The food was fantastic and our room was so comfortable. The property is gorgeous. I can't say enough good things about the Black Swan!

This is the best hotel I ever stayed in so far for booking done under agoda. The hotel was located near numbers of restaurants and a good walking distance to the town and information building where we can make all the enquiry of trips. Most of all the hotel is just located next to the Rotorua lake and the lake front and also with free internet at the lobby. Staff we encounter also very helpfull and recommend to friends too who like to visit and stay in Rotorua.

One of the best hotel i have lived so far, not because it is a luxury brand, there are, however, so many surprise during my visiting. this is a family business, and the owner is so helpful and so kindness. Answered all of my questions and even help me to book the tour with discount. Also, close to shopping the biggest shopping center in town. absolutely fabulous !!! highly recommend and will choose this hotel again for my next visiting:)

What I love about this hotel is that the parking is right at the door of your apartment. It's really important for me because it made loading and unloading the luggages so easy. The apartment is big and spacious for the 3 of us. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to cook. It even has a jacuzzi(!) but I'm just too beat to try it. It is located a few mins drive away from the local supermarket and the different attractions that Rotorua has to offer. Definitely worth your money. Great service too!

We enjoyed our short stay immensely. Room was great. Host directed us to one of the best eating experiences we have had in Rotorua and for that matter, Auckland. Capers was the name. The motel is close to all the main places of interest, easy to find and really, not far from the lake. For two people, it was really fine and we would not hesitate to book again. Next time we'll have the breakfast!

Room came with double beds and very spacious. Front desk staff were really helpful in providing information on tours and sightseeing around Rotorua. Check in was fast within 5 mins. You can park your car at the back, if not available there are plenty of free parking at the road in front of the hotel. Breakfast is recommended as they have quite a number of choices like bacon, scramble eggs, sausages, bread, cereals and fruits.

Room a good size, plenty of room for baggage etc. bed luxuriously divine, self-catering services adequate,bathroom amenities adequate - shower over bath beginning to show signs of ageing. Linen & toiletries supply excellent. Everything was beautifully clean and well maintained. daily room services excellent. Room service, front office, bar and restaurant staff were absolutely wonderful and ensured our stay was a good experience. Just loved the range of meal services offerred; free daily half-hour of wifi in the front lounges was an extra bonus we didn't expect. Highly recommend to all.

receptionist was awesome! great for a cheap stay. Had a room with hot tub, place was quite run down and old could do with a revamp. If your not too fussy would be ok as has everything you need,sky,wifi etc but everything is outdated. Hot tub was good one filled up & a good size too..& good location aswell i found, for a decent n cheap place to sleep its good aslong as basic and old is not a bother for you. Has a pool & 2 mineral spas aswell, nothing fancy but as I said decent if your not too fussy. Top rating id definitely the receptionist she was lovely! & so accomodating! Gold star rating for her!

Had a superb stay at city suites! As I'd come from Australia and didn't know the area, the staff were unbelievably helpful in every way, they made the stay alot easier! The hotel was only a 5 min walk from the bay and fantastic restaurants and nightlife. The room we had was huge! Massive bathroom! And my brother and I both had a king size bed each! The accommodation is very affordable and you defiantly get more than you paid for! Breaky is cheap and you get alot! The only thing I was disappointed in was the wifi wasn't very good. Overall I was very happy!!

The staff here are super friendly. There are lots of nice touches, such as free rice and pasta that you can use for your cooking in addition to free tea and coffee. There's a nice vibe in this hostel! Our room was a double room and it was comfortable and clean with plenty of room. It was nice to have free WiFi considering a lot of places unnecessarily charge! The hostel is well located directly next to the i-site and a short walk from the lake. We drove and although there's no free parking around the hostel it's free from 9-5 And there is alternative parking 5 minutes walk away. Overall, a brilliantly positive experience and a great example of when staff can make all the difference.

this motel is rather dated. it is situated on the southern outskirts of rotorua proper on fenton street. it is directly opposite the golf course and is also very close to "te puia" geothermal park. although old and a bit tired, the room was large and clean. there was a digital t.v. and wifi (not really effective). however, the large bed was very comfortable. eventually, more effective heating and general modernisation of the rooms will assist in atracting more patronage. but the owner took the time and trouble to give a very detailed run down on the local tourist attractions. it was cheap place to stay, but some others may prefer more of the creature comforts of a more expensive hotel/motel.
