Canterbury Region hotels & accommodations

I agree with one of the review describing the room like a hobbit room. I booked the room last minute online from Agoda and get the best deal, $137 per night. Glad that I decide to stay only 1 night. This is not even close the best stay (after 3weeks spend in a different accommodation) I had for my winter holiday. The Standard Room are shocking! Extremely small. I a...

Excellent location. We stayed in the motel, essentially a studio unit with cooking facilities overlooking the mountains. Unit was well equipped and clean. Food in the lodge is limited to Bar and Grill so best to prepare prior to coming if you wanna DIY rather than eating bar food, waiting times can be long for dinner. We did the afternoon walk in Hooker Valley to the g...

Just a wk before travel, I got an email stating my booking was cancelled. It was very shocking as I recieved it first thing in the morn. Not sure y it was cancelled, hotel rep said that I didnt send him my booking confirmation but I've checked my email trace and it was there. Nonetheless, there was no point in arguing who's in the right. So, pls remember to email t...

Loved that the tram passes right in front of the hotel lobby (don't worry its safe). The hotel is situated next to restaurants and cafes while bars and a few places of attraction such as the botanical gardens and the Canterbury Museum are walking distances away. Will definitely stay again if I visit Christchurch.

We booked the whole apartment option and the house was fantastic. The cookery and beddings were all good. But I still have to point out a few things to improve: 1. At this price range, complimentary wifi with 2 GB bandwidth limit seems a bit penny-pinching. 2. The under-stove oven worked fine but as we preheated it the foul odor from previous cooking fumed the whole li...

Fantastic apartment that is comparable or even better than most 3-4 stars hotels. Conveniently located in the city although not at the most centralised location. However, the cleanliness of the place, facilities available (toiletries, hairdryers, kitchenette etc), Scandinavian decor and helpful staff more than make up for the slightly less centralised location. Plus,...

My husband and I both agree this is the best holiday/ caravan park we have ever stayed at. Other than our stay in Milford Sound, our stay at Lake Tekapo was our favourite during our travels in the South Island. The studio room was clean, good size & what a beautiful view of the water! Close walk to the hot spring & we loved the ducks on the grass out the front. We will...

Our flight got delayed so we had to spend a night at the airport. We booked a last minute room as it is nearby the airport and the rooms are cheap. Upon arrival, checking in is very easy and fast. Staff assisted us efficiently too. The room is very clean and spacious. Plenty of space to lay out 3 luggages. Beds are comfy and clean too. Same goes for the toilet. Kitc...

Wife and I stayed three nights to take in a super rugby game and renew acquaintances with the Canterbury district. This hotel is close to Highway 1 and not far from restaurants, the main shopping maul, Antarctic centre and downtown attractions. We would much rather stay here than in the city which is a sad place and along way from recovering from the tragedy of the qua...

I stayed here because of an overnight layover, and picked this hotel because it is less than a five-minute walk to the airport. It is also next door to the Antarctic Research Centre. I got off the plane at 2:45, walked to the hotel, checked in, went to the room, and still had two hours to spend looking at penguins, etc. Dinner options are limited if you are on foot. ...

We enjoyed our stay, the location was great very near the fast food and we had a great surprise when we enter the accommodation.....they gave us a gift for selecting them and the best of all when we enter the room we saw that we can cook, that they have stove, fridge, oven, even microwave., that was above our expectation, so we spend less on eating out.. The management...

It was very tidy and helpful. however the reception for the hotel through the restaurant was very displeasing walking through the bar and restaurant with nags to get to the reception and room. Also the special requests we booking was not adhere to. I requested for a shuttle to and from the hotel. The meal was absolutely beautiful 5 star on meal. Chowder was beautiful....

Hotel Aoraki Mount Cook Alpine Lodge is a comfortable hotel situated in a quiet area within easy access to mount cook glacier tour. It is a great starting point for nice walking tours. The best part of this hotel is good view of mount cook from room for all the room facing mount cook. The hotel provided common kithen dining area for guest to prepare their own breakfast...

Motel has a free shuttle from the airport as per your request (up to 2am), managed to also get a free shuttle to the airport on the next morning after checking out. Flight came in at 2300 at CHC (after office hours of the reception, however they do have a night porter which runs the place and facilitated our check-in) Staff were really friendly and helpful. They turne...

This hotel was rebuilt after the earthquake. I am like soooooo happy to see the manager who checked us in. He was very friendly and smiling and whilst there were some who were not he made up for that. The rooms were ultra modern with an artistic feel which was great. Gym was great. Lobby was too small resulting in overcrowding at times. It's heartbreaking to actually ...

Might overshot the place but driving in New Zealand town is within 30-50 so can find it with ease. They do have rice cooker and all the appliances plus cutleries. Our house do not include the skylight whereby you can open and view the stars which is disappointment. It has a small patio but we cant simply view the stars from outside as it very cold. Most of toiletries...

Overall, our stay at Tailr Made Tekapo was excellent. Richard was very friendly and helpful when we checked in. He gave us a map of the area and pointed out some of the more popular things to do. He also provided us passwords for 500 MB of wi-fi each. Before giving us our key he gave us a quick tour of the facilities and made sure all our questions were answered. The...

Owner and all the staffs are very kind and helpful. Room was just PERFECT, clean and tidy. All the gadgets and kitchen tools were placed well. We didn't know owner is korean when we booked here. we were surprised. He explained everything about NZ when we asked him to do. cuz we didn't plan our trip much. After check-in we started plan ours with pamplets and maps he gav...

Colombo in the City is a great place to stay in Christchurch. The rooms are very well laid out, with outdoor seating areas available. Location is within walking distance to the casino, good restaurants and downtown. Parking is available and the location is a good starting spot for exploring the Canterbury area. A great value as well.

It's a good motel - the room we got was priced comparably to other hotels in the area, but the size of the room was a lot bigger so it was really easy to make yourself feel at home. The kitchen has everything you'd need, the bathrooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. The best part of the hotel is probably its location - walking distance from the downtown part of...

Staff at check in counter was friendly and kindly offered us a room when the one we requested for wasn't available. Wifi was given out for free even though it was stated to be charged and he even gave us extra slips for it! location was accessible and overall, a great stay(:

I found the hotel to be very comfortable and modern. It is located in the heart of town which makes it perfect for business or just to enjoy Christchurch City Center as everything is within walking distance. The only two qualms I have are that parking must be paid separately, and internet usage fees are handled in a strange manner. You are entitled to 3 hours for free,...

We spent the first two nights of our honeymoon here and it couldn't have been more perfect. Welcoming, friendly and helpful hosts, a well appointed room with gorgeous decor and lovely modern ensuite, fantastic breakfast in the lovely lounge and perfect location to explore Christchurch, only 200 metres from botanic gardens and Canterbury museum. I cannot recommend enoug...

We absolutely loved the Lake Tekapo Cottages. We stayed in the Little Birch cottage. It was modern with all amenities we could ask for - kitchenware, dishwasher, washer/dryer, heater, etc. It was so comfortable and by far the best place we stayed at out of 8 different places on our entire NZ trip. We also liked that it was very near the lake, church, and town - eve...

After travelling the whole of south island, I can easily say Belmont was one of our best accomodation experience. We could literally walk to the city - 15 mins easy walk. Food options were about 10 mins away. The accomodation was super clean and luxurious. We have SKY channels in the hall and a TV in the room too. Just splendid for the autumn nights ! Rooms were nice a...

everything is good. i like hotel design n location. it's located on the road which's paralel with highway and just 3 mins to downtown shopping centre by car. Also the room i stayed is in studio type. There are kitchen(w full equipment) and toilet. The hotel also has laundry house which i can clean up my cloth after long journey. Just one thing, The hotel sign at night...
Cheap places to stay in Canterbury Region

I love this place!! Best hostel I've found in all of nz. The reception is so friendly and helpful. Free yummy homebread for breakfast and pasta for dinner! Very comfortable bed! The patio is awesome and great hangout area! Clean! Close enough to everything! Stayed an extra night because I liked it so much!!

The vibes in this hostel really depends on the backpackers that are staying with you that day. One day I had very quiet but dull night because my roommates won't speak, the other times I had people who mingle very actively at the lounge, which is cool. Lots of DVD options at the reception to kill your time, comfortable bed is real gem, and short walk to beautiful beach...

Searched and found out that they had the cheapest price in CHC. Booked and stayed in a mixed dorm. Turned out that not as what as I thought. Kitchen is spacious with a tv in dining area. Staffs are friendly and informative. Room is clean. Will definitely come back

Our flight got delayed so we had to spend a night at the airport. We booked a last minute room as it is nearby the airport and the rooms are cheap. Upon arrival, checking in is very easy and fast. The family who run this place were SO friendly and keen to help out. The female dorm was spacious and had its own kitchen (as well as the main backpacker’s one) and bathroom. The WiFi is via voucher, but they’ll give you more than one if you need it. I’d stay here again if I was in Christchurch, as quite centrally located and the owners were so sweet.

Booked a double en suite for one night. We like the location as it’s close to Botenic Garden and Canterbury museum. Room is not too small the light is very deem. The weather wasn’t good as It’s raining and cold during our stay but the heater is too weak even we have turned it to max. There is kitchen and laundry room. Washing cost $5.5 and drying cost another $5.5...

It's a real lodge. Even for dorm room it's single beds... and there's spacious. The window next to the bed is SUPER!! Nice view, breezy air. The bed is comfortable. It requires a bit climbing though as dorm at 3rd floor. Kitchen is clean and fully equipped. Living room is cozy. Location wise bit far away from city center, free bicycles but have to get up early enough t...

I was only staying at this hotel briefly, there was a super shuttle from the airport to the hostel for $25, the hostel staff had sent me some really helpful and accommodating instructions ahead of time to help me find my way inside and to my room late at night (as I was due to arrive at 11pm - didn't make it til after midnight). The hostel was fairly quiet but still a ...

We loved this hostel and really appreciated the upgrade to an ensuite! Really comfortable bed, lovely swimming pool and hot tub and we used the laundry which worked well. Best of all for us the kitchen was really quiet with great facilities which meant it felt like we were cooking at home and could cook up some proper meals! Also there was a small earthquake whilst we ...

We just stayed for the night on the way through to Queenstown. What an amazing find this was.. Bruce was very attentive, informative and friendly. The room itself was really big, super clean and extremely comfortable. Wish we could have stayed longer! There is a kitchen you can use and loads of places to eat within a 5 minute drive away.

Christchurch is an interesting town with a nice Botanical Garden, the Canterbury Museum and the Tram and there are also few other things to do. Travellers should, however, check Google for "Christchurch" and "Earth Quake 2011" before going there, so that they know what to expect. The YMCA is good value for money and one can book either full rooms or beds in shared room...

Pros - big space in the room and parking outside the room. Laundry room. Cons - Ladies toilets/ shower had a glass main door so people could see through the doors Kitchen was basic - no washing up liquid, mugs, tea towels, cleaning products etc and limited pans. There were no duvets on the bed. The WiFi isn’t free it costs $5 per 10gb for 24 hours. Basic for what ...

I had a good stay at Bon Accord. The location is just a minute walk from the iSite where I hopped on and off the bus to Christchurch. The staff are work holiday travelers, who were super helpful and friendly. The dorm was clean although I think the number of bathrooms/toilets are a bit limited. Nevertheless I never had to wait long and overall really enjoyed my short ...

Our stay at the hostel was great, location was fantastic (near to kaikoura whale watch, supermarket and the town for cafes and restaurants. Tim and his mum Joan were very friendly and kind, and allowed us to shower at their facilities after our whale watch experience as we were flying off that night. We were really grateful for their kind gesture! Recommended place!

The dorm room upstairs was beautiful I went in saw it and immediately book it for the next night because I didn’t have anywhere better to go 😂 but really just go there it’s pretty and kitchen is spacious, lounge upstairs is nice and location is near to some tracks around.

We found Snow Denn by accident due to last minute cancellation of another booking. But we called this blessed in disguise! Arrived at night and George welcomed us very friendly. He told us every facilities we can use. The room is clean. Tomorrow morning when we were about to check out suddenly George gave us complimentary breakfast at Arabica, the place we planned to ...

I chose to stay overnight mainly for convenience and for its reasonable price, as I had a late booking on Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools. It was even better than I expected. The hostel is small so it feels more familiar, also the host was very welcoming. I slept on the 4-bed room (all singles, not bunks, which is great), decently sized and comfy. A little bit cold at nig...

Such a nice hostel, I definitely recommend it to anyone headed to Hanmer Springs. It's in the middle of town, lots of good hikes around, spa pools and good cafes close by. The owners are really nice and welcoming, it feels like visiting someones home. It's a fairly small place with a tiny kitchen and two showers/toilets for the dorms, so might have to wait in line some...

Very nice and tidy hostel with comfortable wooden bunk beds that don't make much noise. The TV lounge with fireplace is really cozy. The lake, Mt John and hot pools are nearby and the village within walking distance. And I am especially grateful to the staff for letting me have a four-bed dorm all to myself on the one day that there were very few guests. It would have ...

Theresa was a gem and was very patient in answering our queries during check-in. This place sets the bar high for all the hostels out there, I'd say. Facilities are well-maintained. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The views are magnificent outside the building. 5-star all the way for YHA Mount Cook!!!!

Arrived late in the night and I don't remember if I included a note in my agoda booking about our late arrival. Our keys and room info was left for us in the late check-in mailbox outside of reception...super easy! It was very dark there with nothing but the stars in the sky. Room was spacious for 4 people (1 double or queen (?), twin, sofa pull-out.) They provided us ...

Comfortable cabin rooms! It’s really good to sleep in a heated room during winter. Twizel is a small town to drop by, we chose to stay over night there because we don’t want to tore ourselves by driving to Wanaka or Queenstown. We did not regret it! We caught the most beautiful sunrise during our NZ trip at this holiday park. The lake was beautiful and it’s just 4km aw...

Stayed for 2 nights at the hotel, with my husband and parents. The location is very near to Christchurch main streets, CBD and next to Christchurch Casino. If you're hungry at night, you can always walk to the casino for late dim sum 😊. I booked 2 bedroom unit, it was spacious. The bedrooms are spacious. The master bedroom has ensuite bathroom, and the other bedro...

We had a good stay, walking distance to the cathedral, the bus terminus and a shopping mall. The room was very comfortable and spacious, but the only issue was privacy--the 3 of us stayed in a 1-bedroom apartment, and the only access to the bathroom was through the bedroom. There should be another door allowing access to the bathroom from the living room. Also, the bed...

This was the best accommodation we stayed in for our entire NZ trip. Location is superb - we get really cool view of Lake Tekapo from our room and we even get to see the stars from the toilet at night! Host Dennis & Joanne have such wonderful personality. We were welcomed warmly and loved the conversations over breakfast prepared by Joanne daily. Thank you taking car...

What a cool pad. Very nicely decorated and perfectly clean and cosy. The accommodation was beautifully presented with quality bedding and a well equipped kitchen. Included dishwasher, dryer, and even a tv at the end of each bunk. Lovely views and so peaceful. Thanks for having us.

We traveled from Auckland to Christchurch over the course of 18 nights in late September to early October 2019 and this accommodation was the BEST we experienced! The location is walk-able to CBD and major "go to" spots in Christchurch, super friendly staff, the bed was SO comfy and the room generously spacious and well appointed . Do not hesitate to stay at the Gran...

The location is quite far from the city center. It's is near to the airport. One should have rented car to go to the city center. They have airport transfer for $5 each person. We called them when we arrived at the Christchurch airport and found out that we don't know what bus to ride. The van driver is very friendly. The reception is also warm and accommodating. We're...

We made our booking a day in advance and we're really lucky to have found this accommodation. We were not able to get any accommodation at Lake tekapo itself on such a short notice and the price was relatively cheaper The place is very pretty, the owner is an artist and the room is very prettily designed. Love the huge butterflies models along the wall. The rooms sm...

Helpful friendly staff, good location, large clean rooms, secure parking, good price. We will stay again. Just one thing though. We stayed in the West Tower and the lift looked and felt grimy. I would suggest that a good amount of time is spent giving the lift a deep clean as it is rather of putting when you get in it. This was my partners first experience of the ap...

We stayed in the 1 bedroom studio and found it very spacious for us and our toddler. The room was very clean and awesome heating... went in winter and found it very cosy. Very prompt checkin process and was nice to see that the portacot was all set up in our room. The restaurant in the lodge is definitely the best in town and good priced for the quality The bus stop...

Love the place. Apart from expecting to be in ground floor because we have one big suitcause, we loved the stay. The self contained studio is comfortable, complete with anything we needed, best of all it's clean and well looked after. I stayed in lower ground back in November and remember received good Wifi signal. This time around the Wifi signal was not very good...

Really enjoyed our stay, very spacious - we had the family unit which had a bedroom with two single beds and a double in the living room. Great kitchenette with everything you need, heated towel rack in the bathroom, toiletries supplied. One of the best things was that on a freezing cold day of 6C the place felt warm without needing a heater on, and on a sunny day it...

Very nice owners, great communication before our stay, very nice rooms, restaurants in walking distance. We booked the motel because it is only 2 minutes to drive to the train station and the transfer was included. Everything worked out just fine, very nice accomodation. Just one thing, which might seem like an insignificant detail, but it was important for me: Our r...

Unfortunately the swimming pool was closed due to earthquake damage. I don’t think this was mentioned when we booked. Good sized room. Clean. My 3 year old could easily unlock the front door which was a bit stressful as it faced straight into a car park.

This is one of the best hotel we stayed while we in South Island. We booked the 2 bedrooms suite which was very large and well-equipped facilities. There are TV in all rooms and provided the bed in the living room which my kids love it so much. Highly recommended hotel to stay in Christchurch.

fairways is a wonderful, luxurious property in which to spend a couple of days exploring the area. the fact that it is just south of town is fine if you have a car - if not i suggest staying on the esplanade. the apartment has excellent appointments and was wonderfully warm, with the large fireplace quite an interesting feature, as apparently it is mainly for looks...

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Perhaps lighting and music in the dining room could be addressed as the music was at times too loud and inappropriate for evening dining. The lighting could be softened, candles perhaps? Food was very good both a la carte and buffet. The staff were generally attentive although on one occasion an inexperienced staff member wa...

Very nice place, we got a separate cabin, which was spacious, warm and comfortable, staff super friendly and helpful. Hot tub was a highlight on a rainy autumn day, make sure to book early! The only small issue that shared bathroom is in a different building, it's chilly to walk during late autumn or if it's raining. However once inside the facilities very warm, well-e...

Typically, we stay at 4-5 star, large chain resorts but we were tremendously pleased with the comfort and charm of of Tekapo Heights. Sam was very polite, thoughtful, and made good recommendations. Having come from a disappointing and expensive hotel the night before in another NZ city, the attention to detail in our room was very much appreciated. Everything ran s...

Had a wonderful stay here at Majestic View. Location online is misleading as the address stated is actually the administrative office. Have to drive up further higher to reach the house. Took us a while to find the house, it’s actually inside Manning Place, further up in Lochinver Avenue. Despite the difficulties in locating the house, the entire place is huge, clean...

Amazing place with nice touches such as the heated floor in the toilet, smart TV system. Great shared laundry facility as well. We loved this place in the cold autumn nights and it was close to everything you need (food, supermarket), which was just down the hill. The area was nice and quiet ,and provided and a great morning view of Lake Tekapo!

It wasn’t on my plan to stay here. I urgently booked this place since I missed my bus, so I was a little frustrated but it turned into a good fortune cause the place was really stunning! The owner of the place was so friendly, kind and welcomed me. There were cute snacks for me, the room was more than perfect and the lake view from windows was spectacularly beautiful....

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the St James for the first few nights of our trip in New Zealand - the Owners are so welcoming and friendly, also helped us with all the best restaurants and cafes to go to! they keep their hotel in wonderful condition, our room was so amazing - definitely would rate this place a 5/5!!!

the cabin is so large and clean. we could enjoyed our stay to see lots of stars and the beautiful lake. but the person in charge of the cabin didn’t tell us the key number beforehand so we couldn’t enter the room soon and had to call the company by ourselves.

The apartments have all you need. It is clean, very new, well decorated and the most impressive are the stunning views; you look towards the mountains with the snow on top which is spectacular, especially on a sunny day. The location is convenient in between the city centre and the seal colony and both are at walking distance if you like a bit of walking. All cooking f...

The design, ranging from bedding to decoration, can show the dedication and the passion of the host! Kevin and Jenny are helpful and nice to serve the guests! We feel comfortable and relaxing both in the room and the common area! The view is superb and the breakfast provides us a big feast! We feel so grateful to have chosen this place during our stay! It adds to ...

The contact from the hotel 24 hours before arrival confirming arrival time and details for checking in was very much appreciated as I was too busy and forgot I was arriving super late! Also the complimentary upgrade was AMAZING! Room was very clean and very comfortable even heated so when I arrived was cosy and warm. When I was leaving very early the next morning one...

New , very clean, modern proprty. Comfy bed, great shower, fully equipped kitchennete.easy parking. Very welcoming, helpful & friendly host Mr.PUTU....thanks for the welcome chocolate gift .Excellent location close to shopping centre, supermarket, Overall this is the best lovely motel we have been in Christchurch..

This short stay was truly delightful. Jo and Peter were superb hosts, taking care of every detail. We arrived early evening after a long drive and Jo had pre-booked a restaurant for us - so thoughtful and most appreciated. The views from our well furnished and cosy rooms were spectacular, with the lake and the mountains a perfect backdrop. The living room was very com...

this is the best choice i did for South Island trip! Sue and Robbin are really nice. We do like the garden, and the room. The breakfast was most from the garden, really amazing! Sue invited us to look around the garden. We learned a lot for plants and fruits, as we never knew how walnuts and chestnuts look like in trees :-). The room is very clean and comfortable. Th...

The unit was fitted out to a very high standard with all modern cons. It has sky TV which a lot do not. The unit was large and had a bath and shower. It was well designed and very comfortable. The position was ideal for looking out to sea and not far from the seal colony. This is a good standard to unwind in.

My wife and young daughter were catching the transalpine to Greymouth the next day, this place was really good for that. Although the location isn’t great for central Christchurch, for the station it’s walkable and is a modern and clean place to stay. Good value for money with WiFi included - the only downside was being up a tight flight of stairs with a buggy to get u...
