Fès-Boulemane hotels & places to stay

We loved everything about this place. Our room was beautiful, the water was hot, the air conditioning worked very well. The staff was friendly we had so much fun with them. The pool was clean and refreshing, unlike other hotels we stayed at in Morocco. Breakfast was delicious, traditional with pancakes fruit honey toast. The view from the roof was lovely. I would recommend this place to anyone, it was a 10-minute walk from the Blue Gate. I have zero complaints. I would rebook this hotel in a heartbeat. Too bad more hotels in Morocco were not like this one. Well done Palais Houyam!! 10/10 !!!!!

The receptionist who checked us in and showed us to our room was very nice. We were lost in the city and couldn't find the way to the hotel, when we called the hotel they came for us immediately, they took care of our luggages. Even that we came late, they served us a very good dinner. The man who worked there, Junior, was very helpful, giving us the advices what to visit,the service was beyond impeccable, the dinner in the hotel was delicious, the room was nice and spacious. The hotel is very clear. The breakfast was perfect and the woman served us the mint tea during the day. We had a perfect stay in this hotel. After this hotel (because it was fulled for next day) we stayed in other riad Dar Said (Fes) that was pretented (as they told) to be as a 5 stars hotel and it was nothing to do with the marvellous Dar Bensouda. The service was for 3 stars and it was more expensive, when in Dar Bensouda the service is like in 5 stars hotel and it was less expensive.Dar Bensouda is a quiet hotel with personnal approach to every guest, very nice staff and we had a very nice séjour there!

Pros are location and there is a restaurant on site a gym and an outdoor pool and bar. The bed and room were comfortable. The restaurant had nice decor as did the lobby area. Cons are despite being 4 star spa staff cannot speak English properly; lifts are really slow; there are no irons available and staff are entirely unapologetic about this; food was not particularly good for the price and sauna was at additional cost which was expensive for what it was in comparison to others in Morocco. Despite booking room for two as a couple the room was twin with two beds next to each other. As a seasoned traveller I would not rate the hotel as a true 4 star and overall would not recommend the hotel if you want a 4 star experience.

Riad Le Calife was our FAVORITE riad in our 10 day trip through Morocco. The attention to detail and the design of the hotel was amazing! We loved the owner, Fatima - this riad truly seems to be a labor of love! The location is ideal - a great place to return to after the craziness of Fes. All of the staff is very helpful. We stayed in the Amethyst room, and loved it - it was a good size room. Breakfast on the rooftop was wonderful. Would love to go back one day ....

First and foremost, I would definitely recommend staying in a Riad over a hotel when in Morocco. It's such an experience and it's such a unique atmosphere! This hotel was easy to find only because we had a taxi driver who was familiar with the area that this hotel was in. It is right outside Fez's Medina and kind of tucked away. When the taxi driver got there, someone from the hotel met us and walked us to the Riad. Thankfully, they did because it would have been tricky to find as it was so late at night. They were able to cook us dinner upon request and even "shortened" the entree selection as I wasn't that hungry! The food was plentiful and worth the price. A bottle of wine was only 20USD. The staff were SO helpful and SO nice and even arranged a guide for us to go through the Medina. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The water in our room was hot but didn't stay hot for long but that's all part of the experience! The room had TV and was spacious and kept clean. I would definitely recommend this Riad and stay there again if visiting Fez!

The hotel is a bit old and they should renovate it. The breakfast they served is very poor in respect to the stars they declare. They provide snacks, corn flakes, bread, tea/coffee, scrambled egg and only one juice. No fruits or even no chicken and meat, no vegetables. We are really disappointed. But the stuffs are very friendly and cooperative. They are very amicable and helpful.

I wish I could recommend this Riad. Unfortunately, none of the details have been worked out. Having staying in much cheaper Riads for the previous 2 weeks, we decided expected more.The place is obviously not busy, and this may be part of the problem. Bathroom floor was covered in long black hair upon arrival. Asked them to clean it again, but they didn't do a good job, and more hair was found. toilet not clean. No stand-up shower in the most expensive room! Clogged showerhead at knee height only. Bedroom good, but they need blackout blinds. Breakfast just ok, like everywhere thats cheaper, not enough coffee. no salt and pepper, ever. We both had to return our 30 euro dinner - it was terrible compared to our 3 euro dinners out. Most staff lovely, one welsh staff member a bit aggressive, dominating and patronizing when it came to complaints. venue stunning, huge pool and garden, most other areas still in a rough state. In conclusion: you can pay to use the pool. Do that, dont stay!

when i arrived the hotel is almost at 2130 because everything is delay on yhat day. and after i told them my story, they are worry i am hungry or not. order hot soup and salad for me immediately. and ask me is it need their help for tomorrow trip. and the last early morning 0700, they have arrange the breakfast and taxi for me. and help me to take all the luggage to the taxi without asked any help. i feel is like at home. and one of their staff call father is like a father.

We love staying in riad more than in a hotel and it's especially a great experience to stay in Dar Anebar as it was once a house of a local family and now renovated to a lovely riad. From the photographs and the introduction by the manager, we could feel that this house is an heritage. It might not have fancy decoration, but it's clean and uniquely furnished, with some antique furniture. The staff is very helpful, giving us a very pleasant stay and nice breakfast. I'd recommend this riad to my friends!

The Riad is in good location, easy from/to Médina. Beautiful view on the roof of the Riad, very kind owner who makes everything perfect. Variety of food for breakfast which is the best breakfast in Morocco ever had. Nice room and everything is awesome even in the bathroom. Perfect owner, perfect Riad, perfect breakfast, it’s a loss if you don’t stay in this wonderful Riad. Highly recommended

I really like this Ryad, the room is clean and the garden is very clean. Also, the French lady was very nice, yet the staff who was on the night shift did a very disappointing job. First, he charged us $88 for orange juices, and then, he misguided us to the wrong direction. We supposed to go to the Fes train station to catch to train to Marrakech, but he told the driver the wrong location and asked them to higher the price. Eventually, we missed the train and paid double the normal price. I usually don't do a bad review, but his careless action really pissed me off. This Ryad is still worth staying, but the staff really need to be improved and trained well!

The hotel location is inside the old city so cars do not go right into the door of the riad. We would usually be dropped off at the center of the city and walk around 5-7 mins inside the maze of narrow alleys that would bring us back to the medieval times. The old walled city of Fez is a UNESCO World Heritage Site so staying in this area is a plus for experience and a minus thing if you hate walking. The intricate tile mosaics adorning the riad were a feast to the eyes especially after we realized how they were made. They looked good in the photos but better in person. I had a hard time selecting the best angles as everywhere I looked, the view was worthy of a shot! Our room, the only one with the tainted windows, was on the 3rd floor. There was no elevator and we had to walk up. Having the rooms in the upper floor would give you windows. The rooms in the ground floor had no windows and were in the same area as the common areas so it could be noisy at times so going up to our 3rd floor room was worth the privacy. Our room had TV, hot water and AC. The roof top terrace has a great view of the old city. Adeel was the lone visible staff who’d fetch us from the old city center back to the riad and vice versa, carrying our stuff. He would be the one serving our meals and assisting us in all our needs. He was also telling us bits of history as we walked along the winding alleys. His service was beyond excellent. We also met the owner, Hisham. He told us the history of the place. It shocked me though that he asked me while we were having our last breakfast to login to my TripAdvisor account and selected the 5-star rating without getting my consent. I would have given the same 5-star rating. Competition is really tough I should say but aside from that Hisham was nice and helpful. Finally, the food was the best that we have tasted in Fez prepared by the owner's mom. Breakfast was excellent too. Upon our arrival we were served mint tea and Moroccan sweets.

The place is beautiful with the pool, nice staff and the clean decor. The area is very calm. However, we had much trouble to reach the Villa as our cab driver had to ask to 5 different people for directions. Moreover, even if the cost of transportation is pretty low in Morocco, you need to know that you will have to take a cab EVERYTIME you want to go out of the Villa. There is nothing close by (no restaurants, nor food shops) and it is no pleasant to even walk around. Another good thing to know is that the smaller and cheaper cabs (red ones) will only allow 3 people (including babies) unless you hide a child under the seat. Unfortunately, everything is overpriced at the Villa (food, drinks, alcohol...). Also, as mentioned in other reviews, you might wake up to dogs barking and weird pungent smell...

Mr Jean Claude and all staff are so friendly and helpful, we felt like staying in a dream home with families. There is a very nice courtyard garden and small pool where you could spend a wonderful afternoon in. The kitty Rita is a lovely cat and you will fall in love with her. The location is just perfect as it's next to medina and public car park area so that's easy for taxi to access. You can also have humma and massage during your stay, just let Jean know then he will arrange everything for you:)

This place is truly a hidden treasure! Fez is like a labyrinth of dark tunnels and corners and from the outside it seemed pretty shady until one of the kind staff who picked us up from the parkir area brought us into the riad and we were simply blown away! Dominique and her staff were extremely pleasant and helpful! This riad is very close to the zawiyah as well as the carawein mosque. Our suite was gorgeous and the rooftop is beautiful. Don't hesitate to book this riad, it is worth every penny! Tips: It is only 20dh from the train staion to the riad, please ask for a metered taxi, or else they will charge 50dh or more. Make sure you book dinner early as they close their kitchen around 8pm. There is no room service but you can alternatively eat out for about 70dh per person for a 3 course meal near the parkir or Zohra restaurant near the zawiyah. There are no lifts in the riad, but beautifully tiled stairways and rest assured the staff will help with carrying luggage etc. Mid-end september has perfect weather. Lastly, just get your eyes ready because everything is so beautiful!

This was at the end of a week in Morocco, so we were tired. The space is beautiful and the room was very spacious. We had more trouble communicating with our host than in previous places we've stayed. Certainly things were more expensive here (perhaps a Fes thing) - airport and train transfers for instance. The breakfast was the best we've had in Morocco and it's conveniently near busy streets in the medina without being right in the thick of it.

This place is absolutely amazing. The views are breathtaking, making it the perfect place to escape and relax. The staff members are very friendly trying to make your stay as pleasant as possible. So far the hotel has only three rooms which makes you feel like you almost have the entire place for yourself. We had both breakfast and dinner at the hotel and both were very delicious. In summary, I can recommend this place for anyone trying to relax away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
