Amagi Lagoon Resort & Spa is a perfect choice if you are looking for a good hotel near the airport. It is like 10 min drive away from the airport and located in a very quiet and private location. Hotel was new and very modern. rooms were good sized and clean. beds were very comfortable. While I was traveling around sri lanka I stayed in 6 different hotels and I must say that I had the best food at Amagi plus the best massage in sri lanka, so if you have time for a massage I would advise you to book one while you are staying at Amagi

Hotel is good, food is OK. Coctails good. Enought sunbeds and towels. Drinking water they leave in the room or sell during meals is bad and taste like plastic. Newly renovated rooms are good, confortable. Best is the AC, because not blowing straight to the bed, that is common in Sri Lanka. Also thick blankets was super. Enjoied finally chilly night sleeps. Beach is bad, water brown and waves. Everybody was around the pools. Beach was empty. Good hotel for before or after flights but not for full vacation. Enjoyed full board. Fustrating was, that you had to pay for water during meals. Its not so expensive, but always problems to sighn the bills and water was not tasty. Be aware, that during check out they charge you also about the food, drinks that was not ordered. They do not give you any copy of the bills, so hard to keep everything on mind. Bar orders took sometimes up to 1 hour.

I was travelling with my husband around Sri Lanka for 2 weeks. We booked 3 nights including breakfast in this hotel to finish our trip comfortably at the beach and close to the airport to catch a very early morning flight (Negombo is closer to the airport than Colombo). The buffet breakfast was very good (lots of choices) and you can enjoy the sea view throughout the breakfast. The hotel is located on the main street, therefore supermarkets and restaurants are everywhere around the hotel as soon as you exit the hotel (all accessible by foot). Although the food was very good in the hotel, we ate out most of the time for lunch and dinner. You can get great seafood in the local restaurants for much cheaper. The hotel pool was clean, large and nicely designed. We didn't see many children at the hotel. The room and bathroom were beautiful and spacious, on the ground floor with sea view. The housekeeping staff was friendly and attentive, but there is still room for improvement for the reception staff. Upon arrival, it was full of mosquitoes, so we asked the reception to bring us mosquitoe repellent, which they didn't have surprisingly enough for a 5 star hotel. But as the hotel was close to the supermarket, we got some ourselves, sprayed, went for an evening walk on the beach and by the time we were back, all was good. Throughout our stay, the room cleaning staff noticed that I was sick (flu), so they brought extra bottled water, extra box of tissues, and always left special Sri Lankan spice tea which they use against colds. The beach is very beautiful, but the water is not as clear/clean as in the South (Unawatuna) where we also spent 3 days on the beach.

This hotel was the best way to end our trip. My boyfriend and I wanted somewhere to stay that was close to the airport near Colombo, but quiet and away from everything. And this was the perfect fit. The room was clean, with cable television, comfortable beds, small nice and clean bathroom. It was perfect. The hotel's breakfast had plenty of options, but the best thing over all was the service and staff. The were very polite, accomodating and Always willing to help especially the front desk manager Kumudu J. He was such a delight. We wished we could have stayed an extra day in Sri Lanka just to rest up and stay at this hotel. As far as transportation goes, we ended up taking a tuk tuk to the airport. We loved taking tuk tuks everywhere (when in Sri Lanka do as the Sri Lankans do) which took about 35 minutes to get to the airport and it wasn't expensive. We made friends with a tuk tuk driver and he Always gave us local prices. If you were to take a bus to the airport you would first have to take a tuk tuk to the major road and then catch your bus, or just hire a taxi-driver. The hotel is not on a main road it s tucked away from all the hustle and bustle, which was a dream for us. Colombo's city center is also about 20 minutes away by bus. The hotel is on the beach, but if I had to say something negative it would only be that you can't go in the sea. You can sun bath, etc, but the beaches waves were to rough, but thats pretty much how it is everywhere along that side of the coast. But please if you are staying in the Colombo area go there. It's a fantastic hotel!

We stayed here on our last night in Sri Lanka and wished we had stayed a further night. I was a little put off by Negombo after reading many reviews, however I thought it to be a pleasant town. Agreed, it doesn't have the same charm us other beach areas in Sri Lanka. However, I would always opt to stay here on my final nights in Sri Lanka, given its close proximity to the airport and the crazy flight times! I would also definitely opt to stay at Jetwing Beach again. It was a beautiful hotel, from the grand check in, beautiful pools, great big rooms, exceptional service, great sunlounger area (the beach in Negombo is fine!! not at all as dirty as some reviewers state, we still swam) expansive and wide beach area exclusive to hotel and one of the best spas we visited on our entire trip. The whole experience was excellent, down to the lovely packed breakfast they provided us for our very early morning flight. It was delicious and very generous! We went for dinner next door at Jetwing Blue as my boyfriend wanted a buffet feast for his last night and that was a delicious dinner. The Jetwing chain of hotels know how to get it right!

We booked this hotel in agoda.com and the website made a mistake since it stated that we would have a room with a lagoon view, but instead we were given a pool view upon check in. Upon showing proof we were promised a lagoon view by agoda, they upgraded us to a suite. All thanks to the manager in charge that evening, who also happened to be the IT guy. He definitely helped compensate for agoda's mistake. The hotel has superb facilities and there was really nothing to complain about except some of the staff. The lady who escorted us to our room was extremely rude and does not deserve to work at such a prestige hotel. Overall me and my partner had a wonderful time at this hotel. The upgrade to a suite made our stay better. I hope the next time we come back, some of the staff can be equipped with genuine smiles.

We stayed @ Grandeza Hotel for one night and it was one of the best hotel experience in Sri Lanka. The whole crew was friendly and had a warm welcome. We went 1 hr before the usual check in time,but we were provided with the room quickly. The room was quite large and clean as well. And the view of lagoon from the room was marvellous. The food at Sea food restaurant was excellent and worth all the money. Mouth watering sea foods were available at affordable prices. And the food at Crave is also really nice, fresh and tasty. I would recommend this without any hesitation. Cheers!

Highly enjoyable stay thank you to the excellent accommodation, kind and helpful staff, clean pool and garden terrace, pool terrace breakfast, roof terrace dinning, access to the beach, privacy, safety, central location in Negombo beach. It is probably one of the best hotels in Negombo and the price is not so much higher than the nearby three stars hotels as the quality is superior. It offers a luxury living, everything is to a high standard and functioning: suits with Indian ocean panoramic wall size windows and balconies, modern design and furniture, new bed, sofa, air condition, power shower, toiletries, lightning, shades, kitchen equipment, satellite TV with free programmes, safe. Quiet beach side hotel yet just a few steps away from the main street with shops, restaurants and pubs. A memorable experience of luxury living.

Having booked the hotel the night before in a hurry; we paid extra and opted for the 'cabanas', which the web site stated had sea views ! When we reached the hotel we were surprised to learn that 'cabanas' were in fact little huts near the beach and totally unsuitable as we have young children and so could not leave them alone in the 'cabana'. Also they were actually 90 degress to the sea ! Dinesh, the Manager, was very sympathetic to our predicament and offered to place us together in a two floor suite as all the other sea facing rooms had been taken. He went out of his way to make sure that our long holiday in Sri Lanka ended on a high. We thank him.

Heritance is by far the best hotel in Negombo (in our opinion) The property allows easy access to the beach and has an awesome pool overlooking the beach. Negombo does not have much to do or see except the beautiful beach. It's a good thing therefore that we booked our stay at the Heritance coz it's right there. The staff were helpful and food was good. The mini bar was complimentary. All this made our stay at the Heritance amazing.

We chose Negombo as its only 15 kns from the airport and we were in Sri Lanka for a short 4 day break. we reached the hotel at 10 pm and the sound of the indian ocean and the size of the rooms and bathrooms got us in really excited. our rooms were in on the ground floor with direct access to the beach. this hotel has a narrow beach which makes it more accessible as compared to the other hotels in negombo. the staff always greets you with a smile and helps you with all your needs. the hotel has tours to nearby tourist spots like kandy, colombo etc. we took a day trip to kandy. the seafood restaurant is amazing. the seer fish and jumbo prawns are highly recommended. sarath at the restaurant was extremely helpful and went the extra mile to cater to all our needs. we were so in love with this restaurant that each night this was our dinner spot! its amazing to eat great food at the beach with the water crashing right besides you. jetwing sea does not have a water shed but jetwing blue (a sister hotel) offers diving, snorkeling, surfing. kayaking etc.i took 2 surf lessons with buddi who was extremely helpful and patient.the hotel has free wifi in the lobby and a great view as well. loved this place. it was peaceful and quiet. perfect for R&R and quality family time. the only downside was that there are no taxis in the city so you always have to book one from the hotel which is slightly more expensive. we got to the hotel from the airport in roughly $12 but for the ride back the hotel charged us $25.

We were looking for a safe place for girls and we accidently found this on agoda. No doubts it was absolutely a good find. I could say this hotel is one of the most comfortable and least expensive in town . The room was very spacious with an attached bathroom . It was well equipped with all the aminities of good standard ! Best thing we loved was the outdoor pool which was beautiful and clean . And it was surprisingly quiet and relaxing inside the hotel .everything about this place is seamless. Above all the front office manager (as I remember his name , Mr.Asanka) was so helpful and kind .He went out of his way to ensure our booking was properly handled as it had several issues with the check - in date .He was a nice friendly person and incredibly a well professional Front office manager ! More over the hotel staff were also really professional and outgoing. They had a 5 star guest service in the hotel n i experienced some best practises there.we asked for a late checkout and we were given it free which I really appricate .Other than that in-room dining was also up to the standard as they serve it in a nice way ! Front desk associates , F&B associates house keepers and the care taker over there at the pool and also the concierge were really helpful . So all the respect and thanks for the Clarion staff who does a great job there, a true sample of excellent hospitality ! In short we were so pleased , had a fantastic time there . We really were blown away to the point we certainly had to recomend this to everyone! So much thanks for the well impressed hospitality again !

for a quiet relaxing ayurvedic break its not the best location as its right on the negombo beach road which is very busy and a new hotel is being built close by. the construction work could be heard during our first days stay, but fortunately it was quiet on our second full day and third morning. the busy road affects only those rooms adjacent to the road and i think we were offered the noisiest one, which they changed straight away. however we had the 3 day ayurvedic treatment squeezed into 2.5 days and this included yoga and a sitar music therapy which was excellent. on the whole we had a lovely stay and for the time we had available it was perfect. it is ideal for a short break. the negombo beach area itself however is not particularly pleasant if you are looking for an off the beaten track resort/hotel for a longer period than 2 or 3 days.

I absolutely loved this hotel. I had one issue with my room. I paid extra movie for sea view and got a room where the only thing you saw was trees. I asked to be moved and they accommodated me quickly and put me in a beautiful room with a stunning view. The restaurant was cheap and food was delicious. It’s walking distance from other restaurants and the staff was very friendly. The beach is right behind the hotel and is wonderful to spend the day at. Watch for scammers on the beach trying to sell ‘boat rides’. The only con to the hotel was the beds. They weren’t terrible, but they weren’t comfortable and pretty hard. Other than that, it was one of the best stays I had in Sri Lanka!

I only stayed here for one night for easy access to the airport in Negombo the next day. It was my last hotel, following an 18 day tour of Sri Lanka. Ranweli is a nice beach front hotel on a private small island where you need to take a short boat-shuttle (30 seconds to cross)..from the mainland to the island. The boat ride is a charming way to arrive at the hotel. Staff at reception speak English very well and are kind and welcoming. There is a lovely pool with many sun beds for relaxing. A bar is close to the pool. WiFi is only available in the lobby or by the pool bar and reception is fast. Personally, I found the meals standard and rate them 3 star according to North American standards in my opinion. I only ate two meals here (dinner and breakfast) and the food was fine. The hotel offers "all-inclusive" packages for long staying guests and meals are local Sri Lankan and western food. I would certainly stay here again, yet for a longer period of time, just to rest and do "nothing" in the sun. Lovely lovely ocean view for sunsets on a private hotel beach. The staff is very professional.

i had a great 7 -days stay at the Olanro Hotel,it is a newly buildt property in a contemporary modern design and a large swimming pool.the rooms are basic but niceley furnished and very clean.the bathroom is equipt with rainforest shower,hairdryer and toiletries.the restaurant downstairs offers a broad choice of western and sri lankan cuisine,all very tasty and it was one of the best food i'have ever tasted in sri lanka.the friendlyness of the staff crew and the owner Mr.Ruwan made me feel very welcome and comfortable during my stay and this encurages me to come back again and again!

It was one of the best weekends for me and my girlfriend the days we stayed at the Golden Star Beach Hotel. Value for money is at its best and I would surely recommend the Hotel for Foreigners as well as the Locals. The location is central and plenty of leisure activities are there to enjoy. One point I must highlight is the 'staff' that are really helpful and provide a speed and a superb Service.

We stayed here because we landed very late in Colombo and didn’t want to go to Galle right away after midnight. The hote is 1 km from the airport - which is convenient. However it’s located near a big road which causes some noise - if you are sensitive don’t forget the earplugs. We ordered breakfast for 5USD per person and got a lovely fruit platter plus omelettes and toast. Think they all tried their best to give us a great start into our Sri Lankan adventure.

We had a wonderful stay at Blue Water Boutique for our last night in Sri Lanka. We had a late flight the following day but the hotel staff were kind enough to allow us to use the pool all day and even use a spare shower before our flight. Our room was extremely clean and comfortable, and had the best sound proofing of any hotel we stayed at while in the country. The decor was modern and tasteful. Although there are no lunch or dinner dining options, there doesn't need to be as there are loads of great restaurants in walking distance. One suggestion would be to add a Sri Lankan breakfast option - the cuisine is amazing and was the highlight of our trip. We were thoroughly impressed with Blue Water Boutique Hotel.

I wish I could give the Cove Beach Villa a 5-star rating, but to get that would require a service level that matches those of 5-star international hotels, and CBV doesn't offer that. Don't get me wrong...the staff is very friendly, but you do get the sense that they're not trained in hotel service. A request for help in making a taxi booking for a 2am airport transfer was met with reluctance..."why don't you just hail a cab at the airport" attitude. They did make the booking, but made me feel like I was imposing on their good will to do so. Like most places in Sri Lanka, the kitchen service is slow. On the bright side, you can walk 2 doors down to the Jetwing Sea which looks like a much more established hotel, and have your meals at their restaurant by the pool/beach. The ambience there is a lot nicer than at the villa. Another plus is that we stayed on the top floor (third floor) that had its own pool overlooking the beach, and the sunset would have been magnificent had it not been overcast on the one evening we were there. The room is very comfortable, and the whole house is architecturally interesting, but do expect an element of concrete shabby chic. On the whole, I would recommend this as a place to stay for 1-2 days while getting over jetlag, IF you don't want to go into Colombo proper. I actually enjoyed my later 2 days in Colombo a lot more (due to better restaurants/shopping), and at a good hotel that was cheaper that the Cove Beach Villa.

The rooms are not soundproof, so that 1 night we couldn't sleep. Specifically room 13 & 14 on each floor are more noisy as these are situated in front of stairs and lift. Otherwise everything good. Need to change toilet decorations, its really so congested and very old designed. Restaurant is awesome with delicious foods. Thanks team Paradise beach hotel for everything. All the best.

The staff is very friendly but not intrusive. Location is great with regard to the airport but a little bit away from the negombo center. However the beach is nearby as well as a few restaurants. The pool is clean and big enough to relax after or before your journey. We enjoyed our tasteful dinner at the hotel which has a nice rooftop terrace. All in all great boutique hotel in a quiet alley in Negombo. Ideal place to start or end your journey in Sri Lanka.

We stayed here for one night as an overnight stop before flying home. It's only a 15-20 minute drive early morning to the airport. The room was huge, two very large doubles but had no fridge, kettle or safe. It was a dry day so the bars were, in reality, shut. It was very quiet. It's located right on the beach which was wide and long and had no atmosphere. There was a swimming pool overlooking the beach. I would not want to stay on this beach for more than the one night, nor in this hotel.

After 4 weeks of cheap guesthouses, we decided to stay somewhere nice and convenient to the airport. The hotel is very new and modern (not much character) and has everything you need. Very big comfortable bed, working wifi throughout. We booked a deluxe without ocean view for less than $30 per night, we had an ocean view anyway so we may have been upgraded. The bed was amazing, and the bathroom. Great shower. Working A/C and good television. Was very relaxing. The hotel quoted 2500LKR to the airport (which is what we payed in Colombo previously), but we booked just outside at a shop that advertised taxi bookings for only 1500LKR to the airport, that was including a 3am pickup. Definitely book your taxi outside. Plenty of restaurants and shops around the area. The hotel is located right on the beach (though Negombo beach is not very nice at all). DOn't be fooled by their pictures, if you want a pool to use, they make it look very big but it's quite small. Probably 8-10metres long by 3metres (rough guess). Cheap, comfortable, great value for what we payed. We really liked it!!

We booked 2 rooms because we were having a wedding the next day morning. Nicely decorated rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. Each room has a large dresser with a huge mirror. We booked triple rooms and each room provided 3 single beds. Wifi was available for free of charge. The Tea making facility was also available. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anybody without a doubt.

I wish we could have stayed longer but we were only looking for a hotel for our first night in the country. On arrival at the airport, as promised they were waiting there with a sign with our name on it. Then they efficiently called up the driver and had us back at the hotel in 20 minutes. Given the midnight arrival, it was amazing service. Breakfast in the morning was a great introduction to Sri Lankan food but way too much for us to eat. The hotel is right near the fish market and the fishing fleet and very convenient to the downtown. We highly recommend it. Maybe next time.

Unbelievably delicious Sri Lankan breakfast, best food we had in 3 week trip; Really polished, stylish, modern room, excellent bed, wonderful interior design, bathroom top notch; nice balcony, but limited view; staff are really warm, welcoming, helpful. We were disappointed with some other hotels around Sri Lanka, but this place was really perfect. About 15 min free taxi to airport. Really fun nightlife and dining spots five minute walk away. It was a perfect last night before flying out, and we wished we’d stayed here our first night in the country, and could have skipped Colombo.
