Gyeongsangbuk hotels & places to stay

We stayed here for three nights during the time of the Cherry blossom, its the best place to stay at this time of the year as the Lake is the main area to see the blossom. The hotel is a bit dated, the rooms are nicely finished and fine but the pool area was concrete and needs renovating. Was disappointed that the concierge couldnt recommmend an English tour guide but it didnt matter too much, we took the Korean tour, an ipad and guide book! They charge to use the indoor swimming pool which surprised us too. The staff at the hotel were great, v friendly and helpful, and it was always nice to come back to the hotel after a long day of exploring.

We were not sure in the beginning if it's the right choice to stay in Gyeonju but it turned out to actually to be the best. We also check other hotels during our stay, including Hilton, but Hyunday somehow looked better. We felt that many other hotels in the area were actually a bit sub-standard and too much targeted to local tastes (in food, decoration, etc.). If you are looking for a good, clean, international level hotel, Hyunday fits perfectly. You do not get too much local feeling inside, but it's also not a culture shock if you are for the first time in Korea. We preferred to leave the cultural part for the visits, museums, restaurants outside the hotel. The buffet was ok, but we loved the separate Italian restaurant also located in the hotel. About the location, it's not really central, but actually since all tourist sites are so far apart, you need to take a bus anyway. They run regularly in front of the hotel. And it's much better to stay next to a lake, surrounded by parks, than in the downtown, in the case of Gyeonju.

the bus from singyeongju station goes straight to the hotel, just make sure you get on the one that goes to bomun lake resort (i think it was number 700). we ordered room service and they messed up our order a lot so we almost got charged twice for the food we ordered, which was difficult to explain in basic english, but it got sorted out eventually. it was pretty easy to get to all of the sights we wanted to see. ended up heading across the lake for an afternoon to gyeongju world, the amusement park, which was pretty fun. i think the website mentioned hot springs, but you have to pay for access. there is a bar downstairs but beware as there is a 10% vat and a 10% service charge... so each drink you buy is 21% more expensive than you think! also i ordered a lemonade and vodka, which got lost in translation and i got a lemonade and a shot of vodka. i don't know why that lemonade was so expensive but i suppose it's best to avoid the bar... who knows what you'll get and how much you'll pay!

I spent one glorious night at the DY Hotel in Gyeongju, South Korea in a deluxe suite, having been offered an upgrade when booking. I was on the top floor of the hotel, had two comfortable recliners and a whirlpool bath (which did wonders for my sore body),and a decent view, though the recliners wouldn't recline due to plug adapter issues (US plugs for the reclining mechanism which prevented them from being plugged in). Compared to the Hanok village hotel my friend had booked prior nights and which I ditched after my water heater malfunctioned and began emitting noxious fumes (where I had been sleeping on a pad on the floor and had no chairs, not to mention the noise from children playing outside due to it being a family resort), this was a very welcome respite from the rigors of travel. And for all this it was a quite affordable price. My only regret is not booking the DY hotel from the moment I arrived in Gyeongju.

Overall, the Kensington is a nice hotel for the price. It is a bit far from most of the major tourist spots, but is in a pretty, scenic area. There were several restaurants, a cafe, and a Family Mart at the hotel which was very convenient. The hotel staff is great! They are very courteous and helpful. The rooms are large and clean. Our one big complaint was that the heater turned on automatically at night and we could not turn it off in our rooms. Additionally, we had issues with an outside hall light staying on all night and shining directly into our room.

Location is excellent. within waking distance from express bus terminal and also intercity bus terminal. Room is clean, nice, but has thin wall, so we can hear if someone was walking and talking loud outside. But fortunately, during our stay, there was only a few guest. the hotel staff is so helpful with giving information and quite good with english. There are lockers if you want to put your luggage after check out.

This hotel had favorable reviews so I followed those before me and booked a room for my overnight trip for Silla tomb sightseeing. So glad I did. Everything about the stay was excellent including the usuals - location, cleanliness, staff, and price. The icing on the cake was the hotel 'sauna', included in the price of the room. In Korea, 'sauna' means a public-style bath - hot pools, cold pool, dry sauna and steam room. This sauna also has the guy to do a skin scrub and massage. The sauna facility was very clean, had all the options and was open from morning till 9:00 pm. (Sauna is closed on Thursdays apparently.). Will definitely stay here again on any return visit to Gyeongju.

We took a bus opposite the bus station and it dropped us near Hyundai Hotel. The Suite Hotel (aka Suites Maison or Sweet Hotel) is across the road from Hyundai Hotel and you probably need to walk about 8 to 10 minutes from the bus stop to the hotel. In Korea, the check in time for most hotels is 2.00 pm. So be prepared to wait till 2pm. The receptionists at the hotels speak a bit of English and were helpful. They helped us book a train to Andong and a day tour to the places of interest in Gyeonju e.g. Seokguram Grotto and Cheonmachong. However the tour is conducted in Korean but the tour guide speaks some English and provided us with an English guide book to help us along. From the hotel, you will need to walk for more than 30 minutes to places of interest around the lake. But you can take the shuttle bus that runs around the lake or rent a bicycle from a shop near the hotel. The hotel is quiet as there are only about 30 plus rooms. It is a good place to relax and enjoy the nature around the lake. We highly recommend this hotel to others.

My friend and I stayed two nights here and we absolutely loved it. It is off of the major road from both the train station and the bus station. Although the owner doesn't speak much English, we didn't need to communicate much other than showing our booking number. We had the best room (I wonder if we were upgraded) with an additional 'tea room'. Each room has their own shower and bathroom that looks brand new. There were a few ants coming in the window of the bathroom but that wasn't a big deal as soon as we closed the window. When the staff came in to clean after the first night, they gave us big towels instead of the Korean - small-sized towels. So thoughtful! It also comes with water, juice, yogurt, ramen, coffee and a hot water heater for the coffee and ramen. I highly recommend this place. Will stay here again!

The sugar hotel was a highlight of our trip to Sth Korea,every thing about this hotel was excellent ,when we had trouble booking the train to Soeul the owner booked the tickets for us on his card(we reimbursed him)there is a free shuttle in a private car one way to the station.the room was large with heaps of complimentary products,extra large tv ,jacuzzi ,near to many resturants ,bus depot and all the sights in the area,public transport is cheap and easy to use going past all the local sights. The hotel sends you an e-mail the day before you arrive with directions and a map to the hotel all in English and Korean .If coming from Busan the bus depot is at the metro line and a inexpensive way to travel breakfast was good and delivered to you're room.This is a love hotel but that has no impact on other occupants

it's a bit far from the train station but the hotel receiptionists provided us the superior service once we steped up into the hotel. remarkably, we were given the tiny gift as a warm welcome from the hotel while checking in that makes us so happy. in addition, when we checked out for another location in different city, we obtained the best confort and service while taking a taxi to the ktx connecting to seoul. thank you very much kolon hotel.

We arrives late at night around 11pm and we just wanted to check in fast and rest for we have drove the whole but the reception guy couldn't let us in. he said my booking was not confirm so I gave him my booking receipt and the contact details of Agoda Korea office (I booked at agoda.com. I try to explain him that all my previous days booking from the same site sent me receipt without hotel confirmation number but just booking ID number and I haven't had problem checking-in. I was then speaking to him in Korean and he went on calling his wife to explain me why we can't check-in. I told him to call Agoda to confirm but when he saw the contact number starting with +82... he said "this doesn't seem to be a Korea telephone number". So I told him to dial 070... instead of +8270... and so he did successfully. The Agoda customer service told him that my booking was already paid but it will take them time to receive the Hotel confirmation number. After 40 minutes of explanations, he finally said, "Ok I will let you in and will check later if confirmation be sent". He gave us a suite which was nice and clean but the shower wasn't working, so I packed up again and went down to ask to change the room. He gave us room 730 and it was indeed a very nice suite with one master bedroom, another extra bedroom, living room, and kitchen with kitchen wares. The next morning, I received an email from the hotel saying that my booking isn't confirm yet and when I went to check out, the new reception guy said, everything is okay so I can just check out without paying further. This is the worst reception I haven ever encountered. I couldn't just walkout to book for another hotel because my daughter was exhausted after a whole day activities and it would take us again time to find another hotel and it was already midnight. The Blueboat Hostel in Gyeongju is a great hostel! The location is a 5 minute walk from the Korail train station and across the street from bicycle rentals. The rooms are very clean and very nice! Bathrooms are well equipped and segmented so you are not in anyone's way. The kitchen/lounge area is always clean and organized. One of the better breakfasts I've had at a hostel. The staff, especially Sharon, was incredibly helpful and friendly! She gave us directions for the best local restaurants and delicacies. She also gave us a great tip while visiting Bulguksa. There is a bus that runs every hour to Seokguram. This saves at least an hour of walking. Overall, a great hostel with nice facilities and a great staff!

This is the best hotel for the money in Pohang. The rooms are nicely decorated, clean, and the whole place feels like a boutique hotel. The staff is extremely helpful and speaks English - they were able to assist with everything from the internet to restaurant recommendations. They have a nice breakfast spread in the morning too. I've stayed in almost every hotel in Pohang, and this one is the best.

We paid really cheap on agoda for this hotel, so that is the only reason why we stayed here. It is VERY old, but clean and staff were friendly. They gave us a twin room by mistake so she then put us in a big room which i think was a suite. The beds were more comfortable than the usual motel's in Korea. It was close to downtown and beaches so that was convenient. It was really good enough for 1 night's stay, but not modern at all. The breakfast was included and it didn't look like much when we arrived, just bread and salad stuff and cold dry scrambled eggs, but then the staff came to each of us and asked if if we wanted a fried egg. So we got hot eggs off the pan. which made breakfast much better.

It was a pleasant locality. The climate was nice during June & July. The location of hotel was in an accessible distance from all the tourist spots nearby. Vegetarians will find it difficult in Gyeongju but still you can manage with global food chains like Domino's, Burger King and Starbucks nearby this hotel. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. They provided all necessary things for cooking in case you prefer to cook and eat. They also helped in finding the nearby tourist spots. The standard room was spacious and ventilated enough to accommodate two people and it is very much comfortable for a solo traveller. Be ready for transparent bathroom doors in standard rooms for group traveller!!!! ;-) Overall a nice experience!!!
