Kalutara District hotels & places to stay

I emailed the hotel twice to arrange an airport pickup. Once through their email address and the second time by completing a form on their website. I didn't receive a response to either so we took a prepaid taxi from the airport. The driver couldn't find the hotel so we called the number on the agoda booking voucher but it wasn't working. When we eventually found the hotel, the receptionist told us the number was wrong- he didn't recognise it. The hotel is very nice and modern. Massive swimming pool, lots of sunbeds in the gardens looking into the small beach which was beautiful. The hotel is located quite far from bentota but there isn't really a centre that you can visit. The hotel has many good restaurants and bars so there's lots to do if you don't want to leave. We wanted to do a few trips during our stay so enquired at the hotel reception. Their knowledge was pretty poor- we were told just to walk to their sister hotel for more information. Not very helpful!! We ended up going to Marabula and booking the turtle, fishing and boat trips there- they are very helpful and located at the bentota bridge. Although the reception staff were slow to help, always seemed busy and not very helpful- it is worth mentioning the other staff- F&B and housekeeping- were great! They were polite and very efficient! Overall we had a good stay- I'd recommend the hotel for its great facilities and choice of bars and restaurants.

Brendan and Bernadette created a piece of paradise on this piece of Sri-lankan land. The rooms are very well designed, the restaurant serves the best food in Sri-Lanka - tasty, sophisticated and juicy. I especially loved the separate large luggage room - it allows to keep luggage separately of the main room and avoid it looking cluttered. The outside waterfall shower is extremely pleasant. My only two complaints is the dry lawn - in some places closer to the villas the grass is lacking altogether (and the lawn takes at least half of the property, so its great looks are vital) and just one toilet paper roll in the bathroom (and paper rolls tend to finish just when they are needed urgently). On the second day of our stay the grass was being watered, though - so i hope by our next stay the lawn will be perfectly green). We will definitely be back!

First things first, this hotel is no where near Bentota! Its in Kalutara which is a 30 minutes by a Tuk-Tuk to Bentota. Hence if you are expecting the same lovely beaches as Bentota prepare to be disappointed as the hotel is located on a narrow strip which has the sea to one side and the lake to the other. The location and area is bit isolated and hence one can expect a lot of touts for day trips and tuk-tuk rides as they are the only options available and they are local residents which makes it even more difficult to find other services. But the property itself is really great, the reception area and the pool side are simply fantastic. The services offered are nice as expected of a property of this calibre. But some of the staff to make a hard sell to push their services to guests. As the beach front is outside of the property expect to be approached by some of the local residents claiming to be in dire straights and need the tourist's help to live and in return as to eat their restaurant or travel in their friend's tuk-tuk or give donations in money or in kind. The menu options are good but can be better but the settings are great in all the dining outlets.

Lovely hotel located in a quiet area of Beruwala right on the beach, there’s a decent reef 50m off the beach which offers some decent snorkelling. We had a ground floor room with direct access to the pool which was perfect for our kids. The breakfast is okay but nothing special, similarly the other available meals are nothing special and overpriced, best to walk 5 minutes down the beach to a small number of restaurants. The staff are friendly, eager to help and are really good with kids especially the chefs who created different ice cream sundaes for them. At the neighbouring hotel there’s a dive centre which isn’t shown on google maps. Loved the hotel but overall not too sure on Beruwala as a long stay location, it doesn’t offer much as a resort town. We will definitely stay again but only on our way further south.

This hotel was chosen solely to attend my friend's wedding and having been there multiple times for wedding receptions i particularly never thought of a overnight stay. However when i did ultimately stay, from Starting point from the Doorman to front office to the Restaurant and Housekeeping each and every staff member was extremely helpful, from carrying your sholderbag to serving your plate at restaurant since i was carrung my newborn, it was the amazing support without having to ask that they offer makes this hotel the best. I have stayed in best hotels in SRi Lanka but this was one of my greatest experience, They turned my doubts of staying with newborn being a tough one to a total memorable exp. Mr. Duminda a manager or senior from Front Office, goes out of the way to ensure my baby and i are safely attending the wedding and when departing drops you to the car. I had never imagined this star class service really. Couldn't have Recommended this hotel more. !!!

If you stay 2-3 days then this place will probably strike you as special luxury, but if you want to use it for a base for longer the cracks appear. I don't normally stay in such luxury places but was wanting to be pampered prior to having surgery back home so pushed the boat out and booked 6 nights. While the pavilions are very comfortable and the food (especially the Sri Lankan breakfast) is good, if you want to do anything further afield you can only do it at luxury prices. Ok if you have money to burn, but for instance when I wanted to book a taxi rather than a "luxury car" to go to the airport the staff simply would not do it. Having had a "luxury car" on arrival - a simple Toyota saloon with no water offered on the 2 hour journey and a driver who got lost and needed to get the hotel number from me to ring for directions - I saw no reason to pay the exhorbitant fee for this on return. This also put me off doing any trips out, as the only options offered from the hotel were the "luxury" versions. It felt obstructive for someone who normally would hop on a local bus or train to get about, that the staff were not allowed to help with information about these options.So I did get a bit frustrated, and walking along the beach was my main activity outside the hotel.I guess many may like their approach, but it was not for me.

When I visit Sri Lanka again I will stay at no other place. The staff is the friendliest you will ever encounter. Our breakfast and supper was brilliant. I must say that "Dill" our host was the friendliest and most helpful I have ever encountered. I have travelled to a few places but never been treated with such hospitality. A must place to stay if anybody visits Kulutara in Sri Lanka. Thank you Karl it was wonderful

My family and I (me, my husband and 2 kids aged 2 and 5) spend a very nice weekend at The Plantation Villa. From the first step out of the car till we waved goodbye to all(!) the staff we felt welcome and were cared for in any way. The place is an old and charming victorian bungalow with big bright common areas and the suite, where we stayed, was big and beautifully decorated. Around the house there are big gardens with pool, grass areas for playing and a playground with swings and seasaws. The grounds also consist of a big plantation with rubber and fruittrees, and we enjoyed some nice walks, where we could see the rubber-collection process and spot animals like butterflies, monkeys, birds and monitor lizards. The staff also took us hiking to a cave with a small waterfall, where we could play in the water. The Plantation Villa grows it's own organic vegetables, rice and fruits, and we could order all meals of the day. It was fresh, tasty and genuine Sri Lankan food that left no one in the family hungry! :) My husband and I also enjoyed some effective and nice ayurvedic treatments in the hotels spa. We also heard, that the hotel offers yoga lessons, but that must be another time. This is definitely not the last time we go there - in fact, we already ordered out next weekend in this wonderful nature paradise.

Excellent hotel for leisure. In general, Sri Lanka is a very crowded side, but this hotel gives a real chance to have a rest and relax. It has a good layout, a beautiful beach and comfortable rooms, brilliant staff - warm and attentive (especially want to point Sambath :) ). The owner of the hotel - Mr. Roy is very good and pleasant person, who holds the daily contact with each guest and is trying to create an ideal comfort for them. The hotel has a good restaurant - the tastiest dishes and very cheap. Next time of my visit to Sri Lanka, I'll stay at Roy Villa hotel again.

We were here for 8 day vacation. This is a great resort hotel in Kalutara with plenty of things to do. Rooms are in great conditions and the staff is so friendly. I would recommend this to anyone who would like to visit sril lanka and relax. The ocean front is great. The breakfast and dinner are really good with so many varities everyday. The hotel lobby is such a nice place to be. The pool is actually very nice with the bar around it. You would have such a great time walking by the ocean.

my husband & i stayed for 3 idylic weeks at this fab hotel. we had heard via tripadisor about suresh (the best guy to book everything with!), so arranged transport from colombo airport to the hotel at a very good price. we were provided with refreshing drinks on arrival & given a friendly welcome by hotel staff. luckily, we were allocated a great room overlooking the beach. fab sunsets to look at whilst lying on the bed or better still, strolling down to the beach to take pics. the food was lovely with plenty of choice. all the staff are friendly & sincerely want you to have a good holiday. the dining area staff have impecable manners, especially sammy & eranga. their manager,tuan is well thought of by his staff. judging by his warm, approachable way we could understand why. the hotel is spotless & the room boy neel, changed our towels daily, sheets a few times a week & was a very nice, trustworthy person. there are plenty of activities if water aerobics, volleyball, gym is your thing...speak to aravinda, who is another great guy. there are plenty of sunbeds to relax & chill if you just want some recuperation. there are wild chipmonks in the hotel grounds. they are gorgeous & will take nuts from your hand. don't feed them hotel food though as this is not good for them. cashews/peanuts are small rupees to buy. had some great pics of them. it is worth taking sweets/pencils etc... for the kids outside the hotel too. it is safe to walk outside & you may see fruit bats flying around at dusk, or "flying foxes" as they are also known. we were lucky to see 2 weddings at the hotel, complete with dancers etc..& an elephant.the ceremony was very moving. prior to the wedding commencing, i went to say "hello" to monika, the elephant, who was keeping cool under the trees, & she very gently picked me up with her trunk around my waist. i was ecstatic! we booked all our tours with suresh. he is a fab guy & totally trustworthy. his prices are fair & his main concern is that you hav

I booked a double room and a triple room for 20th of October. When we checked in we had an issue with the 3rd bed in the triple room as it’s was a small extra bed with a thinner mattress which wasn’t comfortable. We were very upset and dissatisfied. When we complained it was dealt by a gentleman called Raj from front office. He swiftly changed with a different bed with a much comfortable mattress. He also offered us a late check out and some complimentary sandwiches as good will. He made sure we are happy with our stay. We stayed in a deluxe room 225 and 226 with sea view. Bed is very comfortable and I relaxed well. Bathroom have a shower with a nice shower-head which was brilliant. Breakfast was excellent. Dinner was ok. Staff was very friendly and smiling. Over all I recommend this hotel and will come back.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We went for a wedding at the hotel. This was a clean, modern hotel, with swim up bar. Good for families and couples. You cannot swim in the ocean this time of year, too dangerous. However, there was a large pool area. This was off season for Sri Lanka, so the hotel was not full. Staff was cheerful and friendly. Good laundry service if you need it. We did not go into the town of Kalutara, but stayed at the resort. There were tours available from the hotel, and we took one to Galle.

I'm somewhat surprised with some of poor reviews this hotel as received. We booked the Palms for the Christmas and New Year Period, planning to move on to another area within Sri Lanka. However we were enjoying ourselves so much we rebooked and remained at the Palms for the rest of our holiday after going on a 2 day excursion trip to Kandy and the hills. We found the hotel clean, with beautiful gardens, a good pool, great location right on the beach and with some of the best staff we have ever met. Nothing was too much, from extra towels, moving our sunbeds away from the pool area, letting us eat late in the dining room and even arranging for us to have the same room after we had finished our original booking and coming back a day later. The breakfast and evening meals were of a very good standard with a variety of dishes to cater for all tastes. The Christmas and New Year evening dinners were absolutely fantastic with an amazing range of dishes and excellent quality. Staff within all areas, from the pool guys, the room boys, bar staff, dining staff and reception were all fantastic and very helpful. We had a fantastic holiday and loved Sri Lanka but what really made it for us was this hotel and its staff. We would not hestitate to recommend this to anyone and would defintely go back.

I visited Villa Ocean view for a brief stay in December with my Parents. Stayed overnight. Location is very good - adjacent to a beatiful strtch of beach in wadduwa. Food is also quite ok.Cleanliness and facilities can be improved- Hotel appears rather neglected. Everything was offset by exceptional staff-Specially Sanjeewa, Lasantha, Priyankara and Dhammika. The management should consider the friendly and well trained staff as an asset to the hotel. Their hospitality thoughtful attention and collegiality made this stay a memorable one. If i were to return here again, it is manily cecause of the warmth of the hospitalithy of the staff!!

We were treated like lady and lord of the manor. A stunning old colonial home sympathetically restored in to 4 huge rooms with ensuite bathrooms. Beautifully furnished communal areas. Although there was a menu, the onsite chefs were more than happy to cook to order and their Sri Lankan specialities such as curry and rice were exceptional. A beautiful old house in a stunning setting with amazing views. Monkeys, chameleons, eagles and other amazing wildlife on your doorstep and occasionally running over your roof at night! We will be back!

It is a very charming, secluded, relaxing, small and very private hotel. It is super clean and neat. It has a beautifuly manicured palm garden that exits at the beach. The rooms are nice size and very comfortable but the bathroom is the pearl of the treasure. To be able to have a shower watching the stars and listening to the waves in your oun private space was a great experience. Fernando, the owner, will pay personal attention to make anything available and possible. We had a super pleasent and relaxing stay. A bravo for the cook, too! We felt very welcome and at home. We thourghly enjoyed our one night stay at the Kamili Beach Villa. Our room 108 was very spacious excellent shower room and very well appointed, tea making facilities small fridge dressing gowns and even a laundry service well done Agoda for booking this hotel for us. We had the evening buffet which was very good and a good choice for all tastes, the bar served local drinks and also branded drinks at a reasonable price.All of the staff that we came in contact with were very polite and pleased to help.

my wife and i were on our first trip to sri lanka and due to a late night arrival in sl we decided to stay a night at colombo( we were headed to bentota). with no reviews to read we were skeptical but all was put to rest from the moment we laid eyes on the property and the skepticism was buried after meeting eranga the owner. ankinda is a tastefully done up bungalow, with nice rooms ( we stayed in the smallest) and all provisions you would need to have a more than satisfying stay there. a host adds to the stay, with his more than helpful attitude and service with a smile. he helped us immensely, considering we werent too aware of anything in a new country, with arranging for tuk tuk right at the doorstep to helping with money exchange to transfer to bentota..... everything was par excellence. we were the first people to stay in the bungalow and eranga did everything possible to make our stay extra special. though we had planned to leave early morning but we were so impressed by the place and the host that we left only early evening i wuld suggest this place to everyone without a doubt.
