Traveling to Germany? Find North Rhine-Westphalia State hotels

I had an excellent experience with the hotel and it is very much dependent on which front desk officer receives you at the point of check-in and check-out. We had a very nice lady at check-in which took efforts to help us locate a room of our preference - twin bed instead of double. At check-out, it was a disaster, the trainee at the reception did not bother to ask for my preference to pay in EUR or my own currency and just assume to that I will pay in my own currency resulting in an additional 3% dynamic currency exchange rate being slapped onto my payment, I told her to void this transaction as I want to pay in EUR, she told me it is not possible, and she will have to call the bank and on top of that says that the Machine has automatically processed my payment in my currency. I find her extremely ignorant because every credit card transaction can be voided via the same machine. And she had pressed on something in yellow to allow the payment to be processed in my currency, her colleague then said something to her, and suddenly she knows how to void the transaction. But unfortunately expensive bills she put onto my card is on hold and had used up my credit limit on this card. What angers me the most is because of this, she couldn't process my payment in EUR, and she was very arrogant and said: "Look, I tried and you can't pay in EUR." I really like Hotel Nikko and hope you can train your trainees better.

I was a bit taken aback because the room that I had reserved was a standard double room....I got a room with 3 twin beds --- very disappointing. Other than the fact that the hotel charges outrageous prices for the Prowein week, I would say the hotel was fine. I also would have expected in a 4 star hotel to find a fridge and ice making facilities somewhere that was accessible. Very clean, staff at reception excellent and very helpful with restaurant inquiries.

In europe standard, everything is expensive with small space if you book a room here. Unlike classic harmonie, i book with offer and it was a good value for money looking at the room size and location. The location is just like 7 to 10 minit walk (roughly around 500m 600m). The room is clean the staff were very friendly. - room is quite spacious for 2 people. You have enough room to put your luggage and walk around. - my other friend book a single room. The single room looks really nice too and have space to put your luggage and walk around. - overall standard in europe, the room is consider quite spacious and you don't fell crowded or cramp. - inside closet, there were extra blanket which is great since we tend to compete...hehehhhe... - even though its consider quite near to the railway (200m away), suprisingly it was quite quiet at night. I read some review said it's noisy, and i find that it' quiet and no road noise at night.my room in 1st floor and was sleeping fine.

We were upgraded to a larger room with a small living area, but it was quite small. The bed and the living area were divided by a wall in the middle. The floor wasn't carpeted, so felt colder than it should be. The toilet lights are very bright and white. With the transparent glass toilet door next to the bed, it's just bad design. The super bright white toilet light blasts past the glass doors to annoy your sleeping partner if you're using it at night. There's no dimmer - it's all bright or all off. This room featured a small induction stove and microwave oven, but oddly, there were no utensils or even a basic pot to be found – not even a fork and spoon. Just two glasses for water... and the free water came in two small glass bottles (sparkling or still). Location is excellent, but watch out for the homeless/drunks on the small touristy lanes by the Rhine. However, it was extremely quiet at night, so that was a bonus.

We stayed one night and had a very good stay. We arrived by car and the arrival was easy. During check-in we recieved a ticket to the car parking located below the hotel. So we could carry the luggage directly from the parking to the rooms. The check-in was fast. The rooms was very fine and large and very clean. The AC worked perfectly and wifi was stable but with a little tricky log-in. Need to reconnect at every longer disconnect (little irritating) Only wifi for 2devices are included in rooms. The location is good. Approx 10min walk along the river to the Cologne Dom. The breakfast was excellent. One of the best breakfasts during our vacation. I highly recommend this hotel and we will definitely return.

This hotel is a very short walk from the Central Station. Quiet (if room facing the back and is situated 3 floors or higher). The buffé breakfast is extensive although expensive. This hotel delivers exactly what can be expected from a Best Western hotel, no surprises. One bizarre thing though, the air conditioner is not switched on until April 01 regardless of outdoor temperature. This means a choice of sleeping in an oven or, listening to the traffic all night.

We enjoyed our stay,lots of parking space at the hotel at a cost of 7.50 euros per day though but cheaper than other hotels. The family room was a bit on the small side though compared to other Accor hotels I've visited. No mini bar and entertainment was in German, English channels were mainly for news. Good swimming pool, sauna and fitness center all free of charge though. The amenities are a bit small though for the size of the hotel, maybe they will increase since renovations are taking place.Very friendly staff and great breakfast. We did not dine in the restaurant for lunch or dinner. Hotel is about 8 - 9 km from Cologne city center but there are shopping centers nearby, one just across the road with a DIY, supermarket, shoe shop and clothes shop. Rooms overlook roads and buildings.

I first visited cologne 6 years ago whilst on business. It was only for one night. I arrived late and left early, but i do remember it was a "nice hotel". So when i had 4 days on holiday in Cologne i immediately thought to book the Pullman. I'm so glad i did, as it was one of the best hotel experiences i had enjoyed in many years. My welcome was outstanding. If i owned a hotel i would immediately try to employ the receptionist that checked me in. She was professional, friendly, well presented, knowledgeable, and gave me all the information i needed to enjoy what the hotel had to offer. I booked a deluxe room, but was able to pay a little bit more at check in to get into a junior suite with a sepetrate lounge room and HUGE windows that looked out over the old city..it was magnificent. Plus there was a promotion on where the mini bar was included. The basics: the bed was VERY comfortable as were the pillows (there was a selection to choose from). The Television was good quality, but only a small selection of movies in English available. The in-room dining was of the highest quality and i made use of it on several occasions. (Seriously delicious). The bathroom amenities were top quality and the bathroom was spacious and well appointed. More towels in the bathroom could be useful. Location is perfect if you are planning to go shopping, eat out or explore the cool parts of Cologne, as its only a short and easy stroll (10 minutes) to the furthest parts of each of these. Lots to see and do in Cologne, and the Pullman is a quality hotel with EXCELLENT staff, who take good care of you. Special mention of Kinga from housekeeping who was a great ambassador for the hotel and Cologne. Very helpful with suggestions on where to go and what to do, all with a cheery and kind attitude. Much appreciated. I plan to return for a longer visit next year and i will definitely be staying at the Pullman....anywhere else would be a step down in service, professionalism and quality. 10/10

We paid an extra premium for a Rhine-view room but when we got to the room it turns out that the view of the greater part of the river is blocked by the Chocolate museum so your "Rhine" view is really just of the canal between the two buildings. The wifi access that they promised us was also unstable and at times completely non-existent from our room, but in public areas like the lobby it worked absolutely fine. Still, the room was clean, service friendly and efficient and we had a completely hassle-free stay - the only other thing was that the room's furnishings were pretty cheap-looking that didn't quite justify the price I felt, but the location (a quick stroll by the waterfront down to the Dom and touristy parts) was perfect.

Very friendly Staff / Free Parking / Complimentary Newspaper Negative : prolonging one night more at reception desk was more expensive than the price we found later internet by "Booking.com" or "Agoda" . Next time please advise your guests, recommending to book online This customer friendly behaviour we have received the nights after the "Premiere Class" stay: in the Netherlands by chains like "Mercure", Citizen M" and "Bastion" hotels. Saving commixing from 15% or 20% from booking engines must result at least the same rate as in Internet but not more expensive how it was our case. We were not amused about this hotel reception policy. At least it would be appreciated if they have told us in advance as in "Mercure" and "Citizen M" and "Bastion" chains. Kind Regards

i was rather apprehensive when i booked the hotel as i had selected it based on its close proximity to the train station since there was no review to make an assessment, however, i was very plesantly surprised by its nice comfortbale feel. sufficiently spacious room and a good breakfast, especially they provide a hot selection of eggs freshly made from the kitchen. most hotels would offer pre-cooked eggs in a pan. easy walking distance to the main town sqaure and attractions. i stay over the weekend 2 nights and was not disturbed by any noise outside. defintely return to stay again.

Nice hotel, lovely location, nice staff, decent ambiance. Would stay again. But the listing doesn't tell the whole story. Property is listed as 4+ star, but they have other classes that aren't mentioned online. Making the reservation, we weren't informed we were selecting an annex room, which according to staff was 3-star. And at checkout she said they also have other rooms that are 2-star. Hotel staff is welcoming, kind and courteous - hard to believe they would mislead. So was it Agoda? Just be sure you're getting the room you think you are.

Room was clean and comfortable but it won't take long until it's a bit old fashioned. The breakfast is good but with 18 euros very pricey. Wifi is also expensive for 24 hours. Hotel management should understand that free wifi is common these days; high charges are very customer unfriendly! On the positive side: the staff is very friendly and professional and the location is great.

We stayed at the Intercontinental in September 2013 for 1 night. The hotel is a true 5 star hotel with great service. When we arrived we were asked where we would like our room and the lady at the reception recommended us a room on the side of the school, as it was the weekend so it would be very quiet: it was! The standard room we had was lovely and spacious enough. Really good and comfortable beds. Bathroom and amenities are great. The bathroom has a window to the room and we had some difficulties in the beginning on how to close the blinds (tip: there is a button in the bathroom with which you can close it). The only thing I did not particularly like was the glass door of the toilet. It somehow kills the romance a bit if you can hear each other go to the bathroom and if you are afraid whether the other person might be able to see you through the blinds. However, the best thing about this hotel is its location: on the Koenigsallee, the shopping street of Dusseldorf close to many nice restaurants.
