Puducherry hotels & places to stay

My husband and I are touring south India in his Royal Enfield. We thought the Promenade sounded nice so booked 2 nights there. Upon arrival at reception, we found the front desk manager to be unfriendly and cold. He also refused to give us 2 key cards and was difficult about where we parked our Royal Enfield. The room was a sea-facing but the bathroom so tiny that shower water would run around the basin and toilet and make it dangerous to use the hairdryer which had no holder and sort of hung around. I feel for the housekeeping staff as the water jetted all over the place onto the ceiling and over the glass divide into my makeup bag and onto the mirror. They had it all cleaned up after breakfast so hats off to them! We decided to go for a swim on our second day there but could find no swimming towels. After being informed by two people that they would find some, as the towels in the cupboard by the pool were all used, we eventually gave up and went to our room. At breakfast, in spite of being amongst the first people in the restaurant, the cheese omelette my husband ordered was forgotten and by the time many more people had arrived I had to hover over the chef to secure my husbands breakfast. The only one who showed any interest or finesse was the F and B manager who chatted to us at the rooftop restaurant and assisted us when we could not locate laundry we had given in. Taking into account the service, reception experience and the bathroom, we both feel that this should be classified as a 3 star hotel and not a 4 star.

Shenbaga is an awesome hotel where your privacy is respected and your preferences duly noted. I had booked a triple occupancy room and didn’t have to ask for anything extra, be it a bed, towel or even a cup to make tea. Everything was beautifully arranged every single day of our stay. I would recommend Shenbaga to everyone visiting Puducherry...gives you your money’s worth and much more.

I was previously booked in another place but agoda missed sending confirmation to the hotel. This is something agoda has to fix as this has happened twice. But they were able to book me in Palais de MAhe which is also a very good option. The location is simply the best (only 50 m from the ocean front) and it is an excellent heritage property with all the facilities. Rooms are very clean with all the amneties. The rooftop restaurant is really nice place to have your meals. All the nice restaurants are nearby. There is also a nice pool though i did not use it. THis is probably one of the best options to stay in Pondicherry if you want to get the french quarter experience.

When it was built it was a very modern resort. While is is being kept clean signs of aging may be seen. Still perfect if you want to get away and hide from street noise, pesky vendors and just relax. It is fairly far from Puducherry so you probably will stay within the perimeter of the resort and food is only what restaurant will offer. Food is good though so as long as you OK paying 500 rupees for a main course - you will not be disappointed. Beach is also just 5 minutes away but if you thinking of swimming - go further from parked boats. Fishermen use the the beach as toilet. Given that resort is in India - I understand five star rating..

Visited from 02-Aug to 06-Aug Room 11 The choice was between Palais de Mahe and La Villa Shanti. The former was ranked 1 and lower priced than Villa Shanti which was ranked 3. Booked Villa Shanti as the pictures looked better while the reviews were pretty much the same for both Was slightly disappointed Got the best deal on Agoda with complimentary breakfast and free cancellation till 3 days prior The property is easy to find and accurately shown on Google Maps. It's on a narrow lane opposite SBI Bank. Don't know if parking is available The property is beautiful, quaint and quirky. It has a restaurant in the courtyard and also has a two seater air conditioned closed area but it's rather small. There's also a cosy bar/lounge which serves liquor, beverages and food The check-in was quick and hassle free. Though wish they had asked for preferences before giving the room unless everything else was occupied. The lady at the front desk escorted us to our room Had booked a Junior Suite. The room was very spacious but was a little disappointed that it didn't have a separate living area. Especially because it was called a Suite and the rate was INR 9000 per night. The room was at the front, facing the road and could get noisy The beds were comfortable, it had a huge flat screen and a split aircon, a small cane sofa and chairs with a center table. The minibar was well stocked and reasonably priced. Also had the usual coffee/tea and kettle in the room The bathroom and room had no partition except one for the toilet. The shower and dressing area were completely open. A nice concept for couples. But could get awkward if there are children along A lot of detailing had gone into the room and bathroom. There were top end fixtures like Jaguar fittings and a temperature selectable AO Smith water heater. The aircon was not very effective but maybe that could be due to the open bathroom The big disappointment was the dining. They had a limited menu and an even more limited I

First of all Agoda app is new to me! I booked Atithi at the last minute and Agoda gave me good discounts too! I stayed for 2 days, the room that I booked was executive one! I must tell you the room was very spacious and neat. I was super comfortable that I felt like home 🏠 Room service was to the point. Highlights: morning buffet was absolutely the stealer of the show! Loved the wide spread of both English and South India styles and it was totally yum 😋 we ate so much that we didn’t have space for lunch 😅 Rooftop pool 🏊‍♀️ was too good, liked the way it’s being maintained and the spa was good too! We were offered 20% discount since we stayed at the place. Rooftop restaurant had good BBQ 🍖 The hotel is very secured as such and we didn’t have as strangers to the place. I will 200% recommend this place to all. If at all I come to Pondicherry, this hotel will be my take! Thank you Atithi for the beautiful hospitality ❤️ lots of love to you guys! Excellent location, literally on the beach and sea view rooms have sea always in front of you. Courteous staff, were trying to do their best to take care of every complaint. This could be very nice resort had the management try to maintain this property. On arrival I thought I would write a very negative review and it’s only because of location and the property that we enjoyed our time be with the sea so near. Cleanliness is terrible, right from stained towels, dirty chairs, rusty fridge, rusty bathroom fittings. Thank god bed was ok (though we had to get pillow cover changed) ....but staff was patiently trying to change and get what best available. Breakfast is disappointing as no live counter , u can’t even order a dosa or omelette , no cut fruits.....food taste was fine....ala carte dinner was ok. So if want a sea view great place provided u are ok with above issues. Overall w group of friends with small kids had a good time and had overlooked the above issues by the next day.

Excellent Place for family stay with all the lovely facilities in one place,The Food that we ordered was a bit pricey but was fantastic and the room service was stupendous,The Rooms were large and spacious enough to cater to families with a lovely bathroom that was class apart and had great fittings, The Swimming pool was awesome and can easily compete with any other 5 Star property on any day for its cleanliness and Maintenance, The only thing that calls for improvement was the breakfast which could certainly be improved with the right mix of Continental and South Indian cuisine with proper filling and even that didn't stop me from giving a 5 Star rating to this lovely Hotel :-)

I love the fact that disn’t have TV. Good getaway. Food was good but not great. As Indian I wish they had added spices to my food. The swimming pool had too much chlorine which hurts the eyes and damages the hair and the swimming pool floor was very rough. My daughter came out with bruises on her knees and elbows. The room was great, spacious, well ventilated. The bathroom was the best. Clean and spacious. The sit out was awesome. I could spend hours just sitting there. The facility was great. Breakfast was great. But it was kinda weird that they didn’t have room service or a bottle opeaner to spare. The staff was very friendly. Which is a great thing. As a whole Mango Hill was a peaceful place to get away for the weekend.

Beautiful conversion of colonial mansion. Few issues in room. Fan not working properly, broken shower and console unit and manager informed of this. Supper ok....food bit bland but lovely coourtyard location. You get to use the pool at the sister hotel. The Promenade. Not sure if Puducherry worth a detour though. .....not much to see and prom very windy and no swimming allowed in sea.

This was a great short stay in a welcoming excellently located Chateau. Literally just round the corner from the Promenade and a short walk from many key streets in Pondicherry that are worth visiting for the sites, restaurants and shopping adventures. The Chateau is exactly that, ie not a large spacious hotel with huge rooms and facilities so dont book expecting a 5 star hotel, as long as you have correct expectations Im sure you will have a pleasant stay. The staff are polite, accommodating and will go out of their way to help you if needed. All in all a good experience for me and the family. Thanks.

The Staff was very friendly and ready to help. We arrived very early and tired, our room was only for 14h checkin, they tried their best to have a room for us as early as possible. Meanwhile we got refreshments and rested on the terrasse. The whole stay was a pleasure the room cozy and we slept very well way into the day (although our room was to the street and this being India it was noisy). The location is very good and near to all you need. Restaurants, the promenade, museums and cafes. Very positive stay.

We liked it very much. We were only there a day as a last minute detour from staying in Chennai. Stellar place and would recommend it to anyone who wants quiet and attentive service. We recommended it to another friend and he booked there as well on our recommendation, The French Quarter is obviously a work in progress now with a lot of upheaval, discarded refuse etc This hotel convinced us that the potential for a unique oasis like nearby Auroville is possible. I hope it retains it' s character and finesse Would definitely return.

This hotel matched our expectations based on it's photos we saw and the location as well. Staff at reception was very courteous. We had to shift to this hotel from just our hotel on opposite side, and the staff was really ready to help in early hours around 8. They agreed to keep our luggage safely as we decided to visit other places pending in Pondi, and they readied our room when we were back. Hotel looks huge from outside, and pretty decent from inside. Thankfully it was completely air conditioned, and we got two adjacent room as we had another couple friends. Rooms were pretty good. My mistake as I did not noticed that I had booked a standard room with two single beds. Beds were comfortable. Rooms were spacious with all the facilities needed for a small trip to Pondi - mini fridge, sexy mini bar, good cupboard and nice bathroom. Room had a pool view. The Hotel is located near to Heritage Town which in turn is near the famous Rock beach. So everything was in reach. It has near by bike rentals, market and everything else you need. Almost perfect location. The complementary breakfast was buffet, with a good spread and exactly what someone would need for a breakfast, serving almost everyone's need - South Indian, english breakfast with breads and butter, coffee and tea. Loved it. Restaurant was little compactly designed but was decent. What I even loved was the pool they had. Timings - Morning 6 to evening 7, which covers good duration of the day. They also have massage center and a gym as well. Pool was large enough with cold water. Loved it. We got it as 3+ K per night per room, which was justified with the kind of room, pool and buffet breakfast they offered. If you are not looking for all this, run your eyes around and you will find cheaper hotels with all you need (hint: zoom in into google maps)

the accord pondicherry-labeled as the accord puducherry on the giant letters that cover the building is hard to miss. every tuk tuk driver will know where this place is. you will have to take the tuk tuk to enjoy the beach activities and tourist shops. each tuk tuk ride will cost about 100 rupees. the amenities make staying at this place well worthwhile-almost no one uses the pool and steam room so you will enjoy privacy. the rooms are clean with western standards for bathroom and bed. you may have trouble connecting to the wireless internet but there is a supplied ethernet cable which will give you speeds approaching internet in the western world. around the hotel, there are shops and restaurants that are more suited to the local population. eating in local restaurants will bring you local prices. the only minus is spending 200 to 400 rupees a day riding the tuk tuk to the beach. if you factor this into the cost between staying at a nice hotel on the beach, you will still come out ahead financially. i would stay here again.

Pros - Big well maintained, beautiful property with a swimming pool. Far from the hustle bustle of the city. Very close to a secluded part of Paradise beach(which is not at all crowded, feels like a private beach). The staff is very courteous. Rooms are big and clean(very hygienic). They give you sufficient number of towels and toiletteries. They serve only breakfast(cut fruits, juice , choice of eggs, bread, jam, butter) in the resort. Stay Tips:- The property is slightly secluded so you will have DEFINITELY need to hire a scooty for your stay. Scooters are easily available at Mission Street for 200-250/day. Lily pool does not serve any meal apart from breakfast, so plan your meals outside. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR FAMILY OR COUPLES.

I booked this hotel last minute and do find that the Agoda site is very user friendly and the service is good. I arrived at the hotel about 45 minutes after booking and they already had the info so that was great! It was about 10pm and the restaurant and bar were closing, but they were nice enough to let me order food and then brought it to my room. The service was very good! The 2 best parts for me was having the Cafe Coffee Day on site. After traveling a few weeks in India already, good cappucinos can be hard to find. The other, most important, BEST part was the bed! The sheets were so soft and nice and the mattress was very good. It was also very nice to have the small fridge in my room to keep my drinking water cold. There were a couple of minor maintenence issues ,but they were dealt with right away.. and always with a smile. Very nice people, i enjoyed my stay a lot!

The look and feel of the hotel is pretty great. It is pretty much a restored old French villa which is maintained exceptionally well. The rooms have a touch of colonial French feel to it. The hotel is right on the main beach in Pondy and located at an ideal place for a stroll out on the beach or a walk along the streets of the heritage town. Stay was quite comfortable and the staff were good enough. Would definitely recommend this place.

One of the best things was right at the beginning of our stay. We arrived at the hotel with a 2-hour flight and a 2.5 hour taxi ride behind us. And to my surprise we were straight away escorted to our rooms without having to fill any forms. That happened much later once a late lunch was out of the way. This hotel has been converted from a heritage home. It has high ceilings and large rooms. Our rooms was in excellent state and house-keeping is very efficient. We were there for 5 nights so breakfast could get monotonous. We were able to get them to prepare different south-Indian recepies. Vignesh, from the hotel staff, helped us rent a bike which we used to get around in the city. He also managed to get it exchanged when the first bike wasn't good enough. In the toileteries provided, we could do with some larger bottles for shampoo and a body wash in place of soap. They have a sitting area as well which provides with a couple of chessboards and books, both in English and French. I even managed to finish a who-done-it kind of book during my stay. Overall, we had a leisurely stay with no cause for complain and would recommend it.

This hotel has spacious rooms and we booked Executive suite. We had a pleasant stay a food are also good in taste and not much spicy. Staff was friendly and they arrange bikes on rent for us in reasonable rates and no documents has to submitted as hotel took our responsibility and returning of vehicles too. This hotel is located nearby for all city sight seeing monuments and very near to Rock Beach (0.5 km). Arbindo Asharam, Ganesh Temple, Sacred Heart and Lady of Angels Churches and other memorial on the sides of Rock Beach. Overall, we can say, good hotel at nice location with limited parking space for cars. but with friendly stall and equipped with good amenities.
