Traveling to Myanmar? Find Tanintharyi hotels

In general, Myanmar hotels are not nearly the value for money that their Thai neighbors next door are (I live in Yangon and have travelled throughout Myanmar for work and pleasure), but the Victoria Cliff was very well-maintained, the staff were attentive, and the grounds are beautiful and there is a gorgeous view of the ocean and surrounding islands. It's about 15 minutes to downtown Kawthaung from the hotel, and as there aren't many taxis (mostly motorbike taxis, but the hotel is away from downtown so a street hail would be tricky), the best bet is to have the hotel take you for 15,000 MMK ($11 or so) roundtrip. Staff was extremely kind---on our final day, we took the "city tour" but elected not to get a guide, but one of the managers who spoke excellent English tagged along with us anyway, for free, and showed us around. Typical Myanmar kindness!

We stayed for two nights (two single beds, 1 room) in this clean and comfortable hotel and definitely recommend it highly. The manager and especially the owner and his wife were very friendly and helpful, they gave us informations about the city and the mergui archipel and helped to book our flight tickets (free airport shuttle). They were very polite and did not hesitate to help and advice. We also liked the food in the hotel restaurant. As we spontanousely decided for a trip between the two booked nights, they were very courteous and we could change the date.

The hotel is very spacious, good pool, reasonable gym. Staff were very attentive and well presented. The main restaurant food was excellent with reasonable prices. The downfall was the tours. We took the Victoria point tour which was supposed to be a trip to Victoria point, then to the temple then yo the market. Unfortunately we were taken to a tourist gift shop after the temple which was over priced. We finally got to the market and were told it was a wet market however we insisted. We found that the market was not only fruit and veg but there were all sorts of general merchandise. Unfortunately there was not time to go shopping. We would have much preferred the market instead of going to the tourist shop. The second problem was the 4 island tour which is a day long tour. We were told all sorts of information from book in the mornong to we had to book in the night before which we did. In the morning we wete told that we could not go on the tour because we only had border passes.

We stayed here as a treat after backpacking around Myanmar for a month; the pool and nice amenities were so inviting, we couldn't say no. For reference, I've been solo backpacking for about 8 months, and my friend has been backpacking for about 5 months; we're not flashpackers or business travelers. So this place is about 6 times more expensive than we're used to, but splitting it for one night was doable. There were a few things that made us scratch our heads-- there is a bellboy trolly used to transport bags, but only until the main building where the rooms are-- from there, they need to be carried (the bellboys are happy to do this), as there are only stairs around the building. Not an issue for 2 young backpackers, but perhaps a challenge for other travelers. Wifi was pretty good, the view from our room was really nice, and the balcony was nice to sit on in the early morning and afternoon/for sunset. Breakfast was a big spread of western and asian dishes. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, although some of the staff struggled to understand my English (native speaker).

Owner, Narwar provided excellent recommendations on what & how to see Dawei & surrounds. My tip if you do the local cooking class is don’t have breakfast & enjoy! The Rainwater shower heads in the modern bathroom, crisp white fluffy Doonas & big soft pillows makes Mandolis rank as one of the best stays we’ve experienced in Myanmar so far. The restaurant food is high standard. Don’t expect to find Curries or Myanmar influenced meals on the menu which has more of a European twist. Having said that “Everything” we ate was delicious. The staff are great. To begin with very formal as they are being taught a high standard of customer service, however became more relaxed when we tried to engage them in conversation, even though they had limited English. They try so hard & I can only see this improving as time goes by. I would highly recommend staying at Mandolis for all your creature comforts & friendly hospitality.

Don't get your hopes up traveler. No double beds, staff have poor English, most wall-sockets don't work, and there's no garden. Credit where credit's due: the staff were very helpful with bags and allowing me to phone about onward travel, and we were given free water while we waited. Rooms were fine. A short walk up the hill takes you to the mouth-watering Mingalar Restaurant, which is worth a visit if your budget is not literally a shoestring. N

The positives: 1. Staff attitude. With fair English at the reception desk and almost none in the roof-top restaurant we were able to communicate adequately. Staff responded to requests quickly and efficiently. We felt "cared" for. 2. The roof-top space on level 6 is where breakfast is served. It is a fair Asian meal with some variety from day to day. Staff do their best. This area is probably the best in Dawei for a "sundowner" and a view over the town. 3. The hotel was very central sitting opposite the clock tower from where all distances are marked out. A simple walk to an undeveloped river side, and the four main streets in town. The pagoda is very close. The negatives: 1. Rooms (at least our room) are getting a litle tired and the deep cleaning that is required from time to time is not happening. 2. The water pressure is variable - one is either in a cold shower or scalded. 3. It was annoying to not only have the room air conditioner water outflow run over the bath room floor, but also from the adjacent room as well. 4. The bathroom floor drain is not well situated and most water sits at the opposite end of the bathroom. In Daweir this may be among the best available, we have no way of knowing but, it would struggle elsewhere.

Everything was fine and thanks to the staff my stay was even better. They gave me a warm welcome and answered any questions I had at my first day in a new country. A map at the reception shows you the location of some restaurants, a supermarket and other points of interest. You have your own bathroom, even in the single rooms, and a big fan is attatched to the ceiling. The included breakfast consists of two toast with butter and yam, a fried egg and a coffee. Very easy to find, as the way is also marked on a map at the immigration office. There are a lot of rooms, so in general you don't have to book in advance and can just walk in. I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is not only the best deal in Myeik, but one of the better hotels I've stayed at in Myanmar. Excellent rooms, spotless, spacious, and well equipped; friendly staff; great views from the roof deck; and an unbeatable location, just minutes by foot to the main market, the pagoda, and lots of great local dining options. Myeik is a wonderful town, and now that this hotel is available, I am sure to return for weekend breaks in the future.

I cannot really review Zayar Htet San hotel because I didn't even get to see it. As soon as the tuk tuk dropped us off at the hotel, a very nice man came out of the building, saying that he's sorry but the hotel was full.. Obviously he had a confirmed and paid booking from Agoda. He said that there was a hotel nearby and it has the same standard and we could stay there - we agreed. Their took our bags and walked with us to Hotel Garden that was about 200 meters away. My review is therefore about the Garden Hotel. It was very nice, but it was being renovated. To get to our room we had to walk through a pile of rubble that was all around the reception. Not that it bothered us - our room was already finished and we didn't hear any construction works in the morning. We liked the Garden Hotel. It's WiFi was good, although we were like the only guests in it. Breakfast was OK. The staff was very friendly and we felt welcome.

hotels are a bit more expensive in myanmar so for that the price is okay. Staff is very friendly. The rooms are basic but some of them with window. This ones are realy nice. Very close to the pier for the tours to the myeik archipelago and also to the night market with delicious food. Make sure you go to the indian restaurant n. 1 its about 5 min walk and sooo delicous and cheap

If you want to experience the mergui achipeligo And you can afford a live aboard or you only have three days this is the place to go . The staff were friendly and helpful . The rooms were nice but not what one would expect from an ANDAMAN RESORT . I wish there was more of a welcome packet that explained all the snorkeling places and kayak use and snorkeling equipment availability. . The only complaint would be the food . It is a set menu and not very interesting ., but I didn't come here to eat and I would not pass up a visit just for that reason
