Where to stay in Tochigi Prefecture
Tochigi Prefecture hotels & accommodations
Very spacious room Delicious and hearty meal The facilities is a bit old but it is understandable as the hotel have some age and located in the montain.
If you are looking for a large, fancy, state of the art, international hotel, this place isn't for you! BUT, if you want a place that is friendly, comfortable, and has good food you're in the right place. My wife and I loved it!. The value is outstanding, and I would go back there tomorrow. It is an older hotel that lookit might be a large wooden mansion of a time ...
This hotel is a very traditional japanese onsen hotel located just besides the Kinugawa River. Our room has a great view overseeing the river and mountain. Rooms are equipped with Tatami beds and Japanese Rayon Robes are provided for adults and children. Communal onsen hot spring bath facilities are located at 4th level (separate facilities for men and women). This ho...
I booked this hotel thinking it would be a tourist trap due to its location, but I needed a central place to stay. How wrong I was! Staff is very kind and friendly. The biggest surprise was when we received a phonecall from the reception to remind us to have breakfast (we had forgotten about the breakfast times). This was incredibly kind and no hotel I have stayed at h...
I would give more stars if I could. This is the best hotel I’ve ever been. Locations were good, it’s just infront of Chuzenji Lake and you can reach famous Kegon Falls by walk. The staffs are very very polite, they served us like a king and queen. It’s funny sometimes because they were too good everytime, they have high minimum service operation to visitors. And don’t...
I'm a frequent hotel guest and stay in 5 star hotels often and I can say that this is one of the best, if not the best hotel I have stayed in. There is no gym, pool, bar or facilities that qualify it for 5 star status but the stay experience was so good that its 5 star in my book. Check-in was done in a small seating area and we were led to our room and introduced to ...
I only stayed in this hotel for one night but it was really AWESOME!!!!!! The price is cheap compared to other ryogan but the quality is perfect! The location is great; only 5 minutes or less to go to the World Heritage Site. Japanese breakfast is really delicious. They will provide you rice, tofu, (I NEVER tasted delicious tofu like this in my life), salmon shioyak...
The location is excellent and easy to walk to from Chuzenji lake (45m walk), alternatively with local busses between Nikko and Yumoto Onsen stopping by just infront of the hotel every 30 minutes. The hotel staff is also really helpful and will come pick you up anywhere in the area if you call them. The hotel itself is a nice building with beautiful and cozy rooms whi...
4 min walking distance from train and bus station. The hotel served bread, cereal with milk, scramble eggs, sausages, curry rice, ham, coffee tea. This place is quite pricey as compared to other towns, maybe because it is very touristy? Overall, it is a comfortable warm room. This place a little bigger than most 3 star hotels I have stayed in.
If you come to Nikko and want onsen, you should try this hotel. fantastic breakfast , dinner and onsen. Location is not near to train station but there is bus and taxi
Value for money, near JR Station, clean and new. The Japanese Restaurant on 1/F is nice. The down side is that the hotel carpark spaces are limited. Fortunately, there is a public car park just opposite to the hotel with overnight parking fee of ¥1200 .
No problem with the hotel. The hotel is nice. But i am unsatisfied with Agoda. I chose pay later when booking. The amount is Y5386 or rp 694.317. But they charge to my card rp 727.754 Days later. And I am sure on the days they charge my card.. Rp become stronger than Yen. So please be careful when you book and chose Pay later option with Agoda. They can give you curenc...
We checked into the hotel quite late at night. Was kinda sad because we arrived nikko later than expected and i thought we were gonna miss the dinner.. but to our pleasant surprise the staff actually kept the food aside and set it up for us, even though it was about 2h past the stated dinner time! The traditional dinner (and breakfast too) was SO amazing - gotta try i...
This hotel is superb, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is located in Kinugawa-onsen area which is very close to the Kinugawa-onsen station (walking distant), and the hotel is situated by the river. It is super relaxing here, very tranquil. The rooms were spacious, clean, most enjoyable. Staff are very friendly. The onsen are definitely one of the best, the hotel also...
This is a good hotel to stay if you want a taste of traditional Japanese hotel with tatami and futons. Nice environment and hotsprings. One thing to mind is there is hardly any restaurants open at night in the nearby area so better book your dinner at the hotel.
I love it! The staff are so nice. They cannot speak English but they tried so hard to communicate with us. He take us to the lobby and the common area, and tell us what we can do in the hotel. The room is very big. I thought it would be the small one from the picture I saw form somewhere but I was surprised after entering the room LOL Worth our money! The...
This was the first hotel I stayed at during my trip to Japan. I stayed in the annex portion (down the street a bit). One bit of warning, the hotel locks up from 11pm - 7am. no-one gets in or out. I almost missed last check-in (arrived at 10:42pm) and am not sure what would have happened if I arrived after 11pm. The hotel is about half way between the train station...
My stay was great. Me and my wife wanted to have a real authentic Japanese Ryokan experience and we got it. The room was great, the view was awesome, The Onsen was clean and relaxing and the staff was exceptionally wonderful and attentive to our needs. We decided to get a foot message during our stay which helped add to our comfort and our experience. Me and my wife bo...
I booked this hotel for my father who was visiting Utsunomiya, and doesn't speak any Japanese. The staff were incredibly friendly, and helped keep his luggage when we went to Nikko for a few days, and when we got back, they had given him the same room, with the luggage waiting for him inside! No complaints about the room either - clean and even has one English channel ...
I know Japan and onsen very well. Yumoto Itaya Onsen is perfectly located in the heart of Yumoto, a small, remote town in the Nikko area. It is mid to small sized, charming, historic, and comfortable. It is not brand new, impressive or 4-5 stars. It is a humble, family run lodging that has taken care of itself and cares about its customers. My room had new tata...
Owner was very nice. Location was good. Got free parking although we need to park our car next few streets however the staff will drive you back to the hotel. Room is clean. However, when we booked this ryokan, it didn't mention it was a shared bathroom room. So we didn't have our own bathroom. Fortunately, since it has an onsen, so we don't mind to take showers ...
Dates travelled: Late October 2018 If you go off the beaten path in Japan, you will be rewarded with a unique and special experience. Hatcho no Yu is part of a small cluster of hot spring inns called Okiniku Onsen (Okiniku Spa). I used my JR pass to ride the Tobu Spacia Kinugawa express train to Kinugawa Onsen town, then hopped on the most BEAUTIFUL bus ride ever fro...
It is directly opposite Tobu Nikko Station. You cannot miss it. We got a 2-bedroom family unit and kitchen. In front of the hotel is the bus terminal of all bus within Tobu Nikko areas. The "All-Nikko" Pass allow you unlimited bus travel for 4 days to visit World Haritage in Tochigi area, beautiful Kegon Fall, Lake Chuzenji and Yomoto Onsen. One thing that you need to k...
The view from the room is awesome since it is located on the higher ground than most of the hotels in this area. Since everything else is good, missing a good outdoor bath (露天風呂roten buro) disappointed me.
..for a smoking room (nothing else available) wasn't too bad at all. A little tight as most of these are, at least the AC was functional with only a slight smell of cigarettes lingering. The free coffee from the machine was surprisingly good. Nice that the whole place seemed well lit.
Staff is very helpfuf and one of the major highlights of the hotel is it’s hot bath or onsen. The hotel also has a 5 star restraint. Excellent place for a restful and stress free environment.
Location very good just 5 mins from the Oyama train station. Restaurant all around. Tourist area walking distance from the hotel.
Great view from the room, free private baths on reservation base. Dinner and breakfast buffet with great variety. A bit old hotel with budget price.
An absolute delight for the money. While there are hotels that are located closer to the station, Smile still sits right in the center of the city. The staff is extremely friendly, and the number of facilities included in the price is great! While I have had a "Don't disturb" sign on the door one morning, the housekeeping staff was still kind enough to leave me clean t...
Cheap places to stay in Tochigi Prefecture
The owner is simply the BEST! He doesn't speek english, but that didn't stop him from chatting through google translate with me and helping me out with my trip. He was so helpful and so kind! Felt very welcomed! The beds are comfy and the place so Kawaii! I really enjoyed my stay!
I absolutely loved this place. I was there during the rainy season on some weekdays, so I ended up being the only person there besides the owner Yamasaki. He is very welcoming and friendly, and he speaks English much better than he thinks he does. Strongly recommend eating dinner at Ittan; Yamasaki's cooking is the best I've had in Japan, and I've been here a month and...
Nikko Park Lodge Mountain Side was a bit of a far walk from the station (we didnt try walking, but it feels like it would be a 15-20min walk with potential of going the wrong way). A cab from station to the lodge cost less than 800yen. Room we had was amazing.. 2storeys, with 4beds (making it very good value if we had 4person) with a small chandelier to light up the ro...
The hotel is located quite far out from Nikko city unless you drive. If you are travelling by the highway from the city there will be a charge of using their tunnel 260yen and 150yen per trip. The hotel has their onsen which has both outdoor and indoor pool. Great onsen.

Renovated old house but everything was well-arranged with retro feeling. They also have a cafe&bar in the same building so you can have a excellent breakfast with extra fee(¥500) or enjoy some foods and beverages on their business hours. Staffs were super friendly and brought us to the fond to show us beautiful fireflies by their car(for free!). You can reach to both ...
Location is great, across the road from the train station you’d come in from, near centre of the small line of shops, and right across from the bus depot to go to the National Park (1.5 hours bus ride each way). There’s not much other cheap accomodation in the area so it’s okay, but for the money, honestly it was minimal. The blanket was weird and thin and bed felt old...

My trip involved walking from Tokyo to Nikko, and I was mostly looking for hotels in which to just sleep for a cheap price. Being Golden Week in Japan, most of the hotels I stayed in were more expensive than their worth, however, Hotel Famitic Nikko was a real bargain. The staff was welcoming when I arrived, and not shocked to the point of not-being-able-to-communicate...
This is my second time to another branch of Select Inn. The staff is friendly, room prize is very affordable with free breakfast, and free parking available for people who drive. Just less than 10 minutes walk, there's a big shopping mall opposite and 5 minutes drive to Gyoza street at Utsunomiya.
The hotel is easy to fund but quite far from station but staff are nice. Actually I'm not sure that the light in my room does not work.
Hotel is situated above the old English Lion's Head pub - usually you can find a friendly face inside if you need assistance or a chat. Very close to the MTR station and a hospital. The staff were super friendly and helpful and spoke great English and went out of their way to help my friend who has mobility difficulties. Free Wi Fi, clean rooms, a nice reception area a...

Excellent full Japanese breakfast in a nice sunny dining room. Very clean room and bathroom. Room had an electric teapot, refrigerator, hair dryer, TV, bathrobe/yukata. Single rooms are the small type I've seen for business travelers - i.e. there's no room for adding a rollaway bed. It is for one person only but the price/value was good. At first it seemed there w...

This is the best stay and value for money if you plan to visit Ashikaga Flower park. They offer very good breakfast. There is also a temple at front which makes the stay a bonus.
Basic but good hostel place. Can watch or practice pottery. Nice people including mix of foreigners learning art of pottery.
A newly renovated room was given to us, spacious and clean. Good for family of 4-6members. There is also complimentary snacks inside the room. The staff was friendly and quite accommodating.
Came here because I was visiting Nikko and Kinugawa. The hotel i wanted was fully booked and I was left with this hotel (on Agoda). Another reason why I wanted to come here is because of its name. I love the name "Utsunomiya" in Kanji. The room is extremely spacious. Although only slightly more expensive than a room in Tokyo, the room I've gotten was in fact beyond ...
Clean and nice Small hotel, best cost/price if U travel two. But the hot spring is really too hot for me to go in.
It was just great. No hassle, great staff, great location. I would stay there again, no problem. Thank you APA team. Great job.
We've used this hotel three times as a base from which to travel to MotoGP at Motegi race circuit. The hotel is somewhat similar to a Formule1 in europe but the rooms all have their own bathrooms. Rooms are clean, a good size, well equipped and quiet. Staff are professional and do their very best to help even though they speak little english. There is an optional bre...
Absolutely loved my stay here. Room was clean, comfortable and warm. Staff were all friendly. The canteen/communal eating area was very convenient for meal times too. Location is walking distance to Sano premium outlet mall and bus terminal that can bring you on a direct bus to Tokyo city. Enjoyed my stay. Don’t let the pictures online deter you from choosing to stay ...
A bit old hotel but the staff were very nice , especially the auntie working in the canteen, feel so warm while having breakfast.
l choose Toyoko Inn,because l want to visit Ashikaga flower park.l know that hotel is very close to the station and one stop to flower park.l am very satisfied with the hotel.
We very much enjoyed our stay here. We had basic japanese style room with 3 futons and a table. Towels, bathroom kimonos and slippers were provided as well as bathroom accessories. The place is facing the river and forest, we slept with the window open, very fresh clean air. The room smelled a bit, for some reason many of these types of hotels have it's strange smell, ...

It is a highly recommended budget hotel with high CP and good location. I will choose and stay again for the next time here.

We have really enjoyed our 2 nights stay here but this hotel may not be for everyone. If you like to stay in historical places this place is for you. It is a bit faded. Pros: Scheduled hotel shuttle bus from / to the station (even of you miss it the local bus stops near the hotel); Nice friendly staff; Lovely historical feel of the common areas; great views. LOCATION ...
We had the best stay at Honke Bankyo. The ryokan is situated in a small town deep in the mountains so it was quite a long journey to get there. The scenery along the way was beautiful so it made the trip very enjoyable. The staff at the ryokan were all very welcoming and helpful. Our room was on the top floor and had an amazing view overlooking the river and the suspen...
The staff were brilliant! They are so sweet! Normally we can't do a last minutes cancellation but we can with Nikko Senhime Monogatari. I booked for 2 rooms with 4 people and a child but at the last minutes 2 people and a child were cancelled. They let us cancel their reservation to the rooms and dinner/breakfast prices with agoda so that I can get some of it back. ...
I loved this place and I will tell you why. It took about 10 min walking from Kinugawa Onsen Station. Along the way there were many sakura trees and my group stopped by several time taking photos. When I arrived, the staffs were lively and friendly helped me carrying my bags. In the room, there were welcome cookies for my group and after dinner new welcome cookies w...
The staff was really nice and had interacted with customers. They were helpful especially the train and other local services were influenced by Typhoon. This is okay to talk in simple English. The public onsen is nice, too. The only thing that might not br good is the hotel location and insufficient car parking place. Anyway, this hotel is recommended.
- Comfortable and large onsen - Spacious room with bathroom and toilet - Free coffee in the evening - Chinese speaking staff available - shuttle service after checking out - about 8mins walk from station including climbing of stairs (simple or light luggage recommended); best if shuttle pick-up from the station can be available
Loved our weekend there! The breakfasts and dinner provided as part of the rate was exceptional!!! The staff went out of their way to help us with everything (including driving us to get some tour tickets without us asking!). The onsen was well equipped and we loved the one outside facing the river. The hotel itself is very near the Kinugawa Onsen station (express trai...
Here is one of the best hotel i ever been. Staffs was very good service even can not speak English properly. Clean room, quitet. I would recommend this hotel.
My wife and I stayed here for three nights, in one of their "private onsen" rooms, and it was our favorite experience we've had on either of our trips to Japan. Even before we left, my wife was saying that next time we go to Japan, we need to come back to The Aizuya. It's truly one of the most fantastic and memorable times we've ever had. The room itself was absolutel...
The main reason why we book this hotel was because of the french restaurant, which meets to my expectation. If you’re considering booking, remember to go for the plan including dinner. Location is a bit out of the normal ryokan in the Nasu area, but the open view facing the golf course is relaxing. It’s some drive from other attractions, but I still think this hotel is...
Good
The hotel was great in terms of facility, staff, food, and service. However, the hotel itself seems a bit old.
